My family and I were so looking forward to a week away at 1/2 term. Last year we had visited Nerja in SPain and had a fabulous week and thought we would try further along the spanish coast.
We used the same selection criteria as the previous year and thought we had found a fabulous place - 6 berth apartment within walking distance of the main centre but on the beach with a pool but how disappointed were we!
We arrived to find a building site - apparently the Spanish government had stopped all works as there was no planning permission - a point our agent failed to mention! The place had 1 finished section, one shell and a complete wasteland of metal, bricks, and mud.
The so-called family pool was so dirty that you could not even see the bottom of the pool there was certainly no way that we were going to let our kids in it.
The apartment itself looked fine when we first arrived but then we tried to use the equipment - TV not working, DVD not working, only 3 glasses and only 4 dining room chairs but a place that advertised sleeping 6! But apparently, according to the agent, that was our mistake as they advertise the property as sleeping 6 and not necessarily seating 6! So when challenged the agent as to how we would all eat our dinner she replied that one of us would have to stand!
Before we had left the UK I had also discussed the fact that the Murcia airport was only 10 minutes away- the reply was that in 3000 people she had sent to this area perhaps only 1 had noticed the planes. Well I fail to see how anyone could miss the 10 minute interval take off and landings we experienced from 7:30am onwards on the Monday morning.
Our agent in the UK would not accept any responsibility and told us our contract was under Spanish Law and therefore we had no comeback to her or the owner. How very convenient in my eyes. I still notice that they are advertising UK Satelite TV available via their website and yet we were told that the Spanish government had again cancelled all subscriptions (a fact i later found out was not true!).
Our holiday ended less than 48 hours after it started. Our choice was put up and shut up, spent another £800 on somewhere else, or come home - we came home.
I will never return to Spain now due to disreputable UK agents. So for anyone BEWARE of the small print
