Stayed 22/09/11 - 29/09/11. Just needed a quick break somewhere warm and peaceful, to enjoy decent food and good entertainment. Location of Hotel is great, over the road from a brilliant beach, unless you need to be as so many of the sad individuals who complain about towels... more

Hotel Platja d’Or Just to deal with a few of the grumbles you may have heard from other reviews. The towels on the sun beds – well for those people who complain about not being able to get a bed. I respectfully say - if you snooze, you loose. Why should other guests... more

I have no hesitation at all in recommending this 3 star ADULTS ONLY ALL INCLUSIVE hotel. Thomson guests only. Hotel is situated in a very quiet cul-de-sac literally yards from the beautiful sandy beach. Situate in a fairly quiet residential area nearer the Playa De Muro... more

Fantastic week !
Stayed at the Platja D'Or for a week in May 2006. Weather was late 20s early 30s every day. I have previously stayed at the hotel on numerous occasions but always on a half board basis and was interested to see what the all inclusive was like, Hotel - remains clean and modern, nice reception area, bar, auditorium and restaurant Food - Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all first class, plenty of choice. Breakfast included ceral, fruit, cakes, bread, and a full english choice, bacon, sausage, egg, etc. Lunchtime self service drinks wine, san miguel, coke, cider, etc and a choice of soup, salads, pasta, rice, meat, veg and potato. Desert - fruit, cakes, ice cream, cheese and biscuits Evenings drinks were waiter service and food was as above with the addition of meat or fish cooked fresh by the chef Rooms - we stopped in a superior room overlooking the beach the views were fantastic !! The suite had 3 bedrooms, 1 double, 1 twin and 1 with bunk beds, 2 bathrooms, a kitchennette with fridge/freezer, tea/coffee and lounge area with a big balcony with sun loungers table and chairs. Fresh fruit, flowers and wine on arrival included Pool - plenty of sunbeds, tables, chairs, umbrellas etc. Beach - really clear shallow waters that you can walk out in, plenty of space and ideal for relaxing on a hot afternoon Entertainment - OK but a little limited, hotel caters for the over 50s but plenty of shops and bars in Alcudia itself to visit Excursions - found Thomson excursions pricey, hired a car from the hotel direct which worked out 1/2 price compared to Thomson prices, the receptionist was very helpful and the car hire went smoothly All in all this hotel is still as good as ever and I would recommed to anyone who loves good fod and a fantastic beach !!!
Going back for more !!
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Platja D'Or, August 2005 for one week. I've just booked 2 weeks with Thomson for this year. One week was just not enough !! I think that effectivley sums up this holiday. It really *is* that good. Wonderful hotel, wonderful staff, wonderful food, wonderful drink (Hic !!), wonderful room, wonderful pool, wonderful wonderful wonderful As has already been said, the evening entertainment does get a bit dull but there's plenty of other things to do in Alcudia. Speaking of Alcudia, nobody has mentioned the weather. For our week it was scorching hot almost everyday. I believe on our final day it hit around 40 which was nice .... I would recommend the hotel to anybody over the age of around 25 Chris Legg cleggy6666@hotmail.com
Not bad, could have been better
The hotel has a beautiful reception/bar area which is the first thing you see on entering and the staff can't help you enough. Although the rooms are small you don't have to spend much time in them but they do have a mini fridge to keep your drinks cold. The food was beautifully presented but consisted of mainly "english" meals - chips playing a large part - but the desserts were fabulous and with enough variety for everyone. This hotel is perfect for older couples who want to relax with like minded people. The entertainment was varied, with some nights better than others. The hotel is actually about 1/2km from the shops and bars but it is a lovely walk along either the beach or the street. There is a supermarket on the otherside of the main road from the hotel but you have to be very careful crossing it. All in all a relaxing holiday with brilliant hotel staff.
Nice hotel with a beautiful beach nearby
Stayed at this hotel for one week. We booked very last minute so paid a lot less than you normally would and we felt that we got value for money. The rooms were clean but small. Arriving in the early hours of the morning we got to our room and were shocked as we could hear the people next door turn in their beds, cough, use the toilet!!! You would of thought that they were in the room with you! The food was ok although it seemed to be the same thing on the menu all the time. There was always a place to sit and the staff were friendly and worked hard. We never sat at the pool area as we preferred to go onto the beautiful beach across the road everyday. The water was very clean and clear. The bar closed early (about 11.30pm) which was a downside. Never had to queue long for drinks. The entertainment was alright some nights and terrible others. Went into Port d' Alcudia on a few nights. Cost about 6 euros in a taxi. More going on there and we had 2 lovely meals in the Bodega D'es Port which was recommended to us by the hotel rep. No children under the age of 16 are allowed in this hotel so not being horrible but it was quite nice. We are in our late 30's and there were a lot of couples of retirement age but everyone was very friendly and would stop for a chat to see how the holiday was going! Probably wouldn't stay at this hotel again only because it was a little bit too quiet and out of the way for us.
great holiday
Our holiday at the platador was great we were across the road in the appartments, and went across the road for our meals. Athough we had a bit of a problem with one of the tours we went on ,everything was great accomidation was first class view from balcony was out of this world beach was at the bottom of the garden. The entertainment at night was ok something for everyone. Meals were ok but you got sick of getting fish, pork, and chicken every day. Waiters were all very friendly and could,nt do enough for you Would recomend this hotel to everyone would go back again
the platja dor is great
hi istayed at the hotel in june ,great fun ,great food ,and the reps timmy and don weregreat ,made you feel welcome ,and wetook part ineverything ,had a really great time ,had been to cancun twoweeks before and must say had a better time in spain ,i was with my25yr old daughter had a greattime ,the staff werefriendly and will go backnext year
Good Bad & the smelly
Lets start with the good, Food very good well laid out and tasty, Professional entertainment first class, cleanliness very good, Lovely beach just a 2 minuet stroll through wood land opposite the hotel, Pool clean and plenty of sun beds. The Bad, bar shuts at 23.30pm, swimming pool freezing cold and if you jump in you upset the majority of the older residents (and there tend to be a lot of older people). The rooms (don`t take a cat) as you hav`ent the room to swing it, the beds are rock hard and creek quite loudly, if some one in the next room farts you can hear it, glass bathroom door must be opened with care as it can bash against wall, a pool view will be noisy as there is a busy main road outside, and the smell from the drains and dustbins can be a bit powerful in the mornings. Dom & Timmy those crazy Dutch entertainers they try very hard and work tirelessly but i think they need a younger audience. If you go on the pirates uncut don`t listen to the reps about the food. You get a hot-dog a few potato wedges & corn on the cob, we where told not to eat to much befor we went as it would spoil your meal, The show is GREAT but beware UNCUT fowl language and scenes of nudity, Ha Ha Ha. The staff are very good and helpful not a bad holiday but could have been better for the money. Peter & Kim mid 40`s
loved the beach
Just returned fron 11 days at Platja D'or Hotel. We had a great time, the food was exellent, the staff very friendly & helpfull. The entertainment was great. Tribute bands The Drifters & The Bee Gees were fantastic. Dom & Timmy ( entertainment team) did their best but I think they are a bit young for the average age of guest. My husband & I are in our 40's & most people were older than us but we had a great time. The beach is the best ever. only a minute walk across a wooded area from the Hotel & the sea was so calm & clear & shallow that even a non swimming person like me was in the sea every day
fan-dabby-dosy
This hotel is fantastic! All the staff were friendly and welcoming, this goes for the management, bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaners, Thomson representatives and of course the fabulous entertainers! The food was presented very well and tasted as good as it looked if not better even for a fussy eater like myself. The waiter service in an evening was very efficient even at the busiest times and even asked around if anyone wanted anymore food before they took it away at the end of service. You never waited long to be served at the bar and always had plenty of bar staff on to cover the flood of people in entertainment breaks. Rooms were possilby a bit small for some but I thought they were just right for two with a very modern bathroom and were cleaned every day. Saving the best 'til last DOM & TIMMY! What can I say....they were super-cali-fragilistic-expi-ali-do-shass! As stated in a previous review there were a lot of 40overs in the hotel and Dom and Timmy had the hardest job ever to get a response from the audience and I take my hat off to them for keeping so energetic and bubbly after these silent responses. As me and my partner are under 30 we joined in and thought Dom and Timmy were excellent at their jobs especially Dom (sorry Timmy, hehe), the hired entertainment was also superb and it was obvious no expense was spared on these acts. Overall we had a brill holiday and were extremely happy we had the pleasure to stay in this beautiful and fantastically run hotel. Keep it up guys, love Nichola and Rob.xx (Mr & Mrs Whitehead, honeymooners)
Well satisfied
I have read extensively the reviews given on this hotel when it was on the Thomson Gold tarriff and now that it is an 'All inclusive' tarriff and I have to say that criticisms mentioned were justified but these are only minor when balanced against the overall standards achieved. Yes the bedrooms are small and the beds could have been more comfortable. This, coupled with a lack of leisure/general facilities make the overall rating 3 star albeit that standards of cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff more than compensate and would suggest a higher rating. The hotel sits between a busy main road and a quite stunning beach. Proximity to the sea is not therefore a problem but one felt a little isolated from the main centres of activity. This of course has its compensations. With an all inclusive tarriff most guests chose to remain in house after dinner and it was most noticeable that most chose to seat outdoors between tha bar area and the purpose built entertainment unit. This of couse speaks volumes for the standard of entertainment. The in house entertainment was very poor but 3/4 times a week professional entertainers visited and generally their standards were quite high. The restaurant was spotless and there was ample accomodation. All meals were buffet style and the food was quite varied. Standards were good but not exceptional. The waiter service could have been better and certainly fell well short of the Bar service. We enjoyed our time at the Platja D'or and may well choose to visit again.
