Stayed 22/09/11 - 29/09/11. Just needed a quick break somewhere warm and peaceful, to enjoy decent food and good entertainment.
Location of Hotel is great, over the road from a brilliant beach, unless you need to be as so many of the sad individuals who complain about towels on beds - get a life!!!
Hotel clean and the staff very helpful, except the Restaurant head waiter who when quizzed reference the food situation came back with " speak to the chef ". which l duly did and got worse from a young man who more than likely was not the head chef.
Food was just edible, infact looking at the Mushrooms/pasta/fish, and veg in general at the evening meals told me that edible was the best you could describe the sorry excuse for food.
When talking to some other guests in hotel they seemed to think the food was fine. Oh my God, it is true what my late mother used to say " there's no accounting for taste " and surely anyone who regards the food at any of the meals as good is surely misguided, poor people. Spoke to one of the reps ref the poor quality of food, about as much use as an ash tray on a motor bike - worse than incompetent, a disgrace.
Will my wife and l be going back to this hotel again - NO !!! Alcudia brill, location brill, staff good, hotel clean - Food Horrible. No excuses from me, that is what you get from a 3* althoughs advetise the Hotel as a 4T, Thompson it should not be that bad. Live and Learn and we have certainly learnt a lesson. For those who think the food is good - meal times at their homes must be some event, an event of misery and dissapointment!!! Thompson get it sorted. l have been on 5 other Thompson Holidays and this hotel is by far the worse. Never Again.

  • Advice: Get the Food sorted !!!! or do as my wife and l did eat out!!

Perfect place to unwind

Hotel Platja d’Or
Just to deal with a few of the grumbles you may have heard from other reviews.
The towels on the sun beds – well for those people who complain about not being able to get a bed. I respectfully say - if you snooze, you loose. Why should other guests wait until the special ones decide to grace us with their presence?
This said – the management will stop anyone from reserving sun beds up to 8am. They insist that the cleaners complete their rounds before anyone is allowed around the pool.
8am is very late if you compare it against other hotels. After all, people are there to get the sun and a tan – and not be in bed. In addition to that – even though we were there mid August, on most days beds were still available after 9am.
I can not agree with the reviews saying the food was bad. When we were there the food was hot. I have never eaten so much in my life. With the amount of food on offer, at every sitting, on every day, nobody should go hungry.
We thought the rooms were great, not bland. Clean, tastefully decorated with warm colours, fridge, safe and, for once, quiet air conditioning. The bathrooms, with bath and hair dryer, and a powerful shower, had a marble finish and were immaculate.
The perfect place to unwind, average age of guests above 35. Great professional entertainment, every other day. Not so great entertainment on the other nights. The ever present Thomson Reps and hotel staff were always willing to help. Yes, Jodie and James even smiled at the airport.
Two minor complaints – pool toilets a no-go area, and……the hot water, for the tea and coffee machines in the restaurant, wasn’t hot.
If you wish to see the hotel and beach for yourself – I have uploaded 2 videos on utube. Just copy and paste the links below: Enjoy:

we stayed her in october and it was ok but not the best hotel we have stayed in.rebooked for the 5.may.2011 and what a mistake.the room had smelly drain in it.the food were to start.cold food as hot plaits not working(it blew up on the second day).we also were served with raw chicken, raw pork mini sausagea, raw fish, rawbeef, raw uncooked veg, mash potato that u could poor like a sauce.uncooked rice pudding.as for your allinclusive snax well sum bread, hard cheese and the cheepist yucky sliced meat.the restaurant manager was not intrested in what the gests were telling him about the bad food.i asked to speek to the hotel manager but he was allways to bissy.i caught him on the last day and asked him to explain why the food was so bad .he was in the restaurant and just said its all good we will get better.i asked him for a proper reason why we were given raw food.he just steped closer to me and said go away ther is good food here.at this point more people had got up and wa and started to ask him why the food was so bad he ran off into the kitchen not to be seen again.i spent two days with very bad tummy pain and diaroea.and lots of people told me they had the same after eating the food.we spent over 300 euros eating out as the hotel food was not fit to be eaten

I have no hesitation at all in recommending this 3 star ADULTS ONLY ALL INCLUSIVE hotel. Thomson guests only. Hotel is situated in a very quiet cul-de-sac literally yards from the beautiful sandy beach. Situate in a fairly quiet residential area nearer the Playa De Muro side of alcudia. Approx 5 mins tto the start of the shops. Flat and accessible for those who are less able.
The Hotel stands back from the main road and the local buses run from Can Picafort through to Alcudia Port, Alcudia Old Town and then through to Porto Pollensa!
HOTEL - Friendly efficient staff throughout the Hotel and are a credit to the Management.
All rooms and public areas exceptionally clean and looked after.
Nice Pool area with nice furnishings. Lovely wicker tables and chairs outside.
Daily entertainment round pool area (eg Quixs, games etc organised by Hotel entertainments team but no pressure to join in.
Separate entertainments Lounge in the grounds for evening entertainment and is air conditioned.
ALL INCLUSIVE Bar opens at 10am and closes at 11.45pm spot on. 2 drinks per person (at any one time) and hardly ever a queue. Beer is San Miquel. Spirits are local but very good measures given. National brands can be purchased for 2euros. Tea & coffee always available from the bar. Self Service machine by the Pool for Cola, Sprite, 7UP, fanta orannge. Afternoon snacks consist of cake - available from the bar between 4.30 - 5.30pm daily.
Good meal times in self service Restuarant. All meals are buffet style and a good selection every day. At lunchtime you help yourself to a drink that is kept in a large friidge in the Restaurant or else ask a waiter or waitress if you want wine or something else.
During Evening meals, drink orders are fetched by waiting staff.
The Hotel gives each guest a price list of NO FRILLS Excursions and these are cheaper than the Reps' Excursions. Bike Hire is also available by booking at the Hotel Reception.
Although the hotel is almost on the beach, the sunbeds are owned by the council and this year 2 sunbeds and shade were 9Euros per day.
Lilos, beachmats, toiletries are always left at the Hotel by guests when they leave. these are for the use of any other guest who can use them, so before buying Lilos etc, take a look at the wide ledges round the small pool area and also by the Reps desk.
Although rated as a THOMSON'S 4 STAR, The Hotel is actually a 3 STAR.
The Management of this Hotel have got a winning formula here and you will find repeat guests every year. They are to be commended for this.
Transfers from Palma Airport take approx 1hr to 1.5 hrs.
I would definitely recommend this Hotel to you.
You can walk to the Port of Alcudia along the beach (takes approx 50mins or catch the local bus. I would nt hesitate to go back again.

One of the best holidays we have ever had. First time in a child-free hotel and we couldn't believe how much more civilised everything was. (and we love kids, honestly!)
Bar staff are unbelievable - so friendly and mega-efficient.
Wonderful atmosphere everywhere - pool is great. Loads to do; entertainment is spot-on, great tribute acts - in particular Lord of the Dance was a fantastic evening's entertainment. 'Games' around the pool area are great socialising events - not very taxing just good fun and a cjance to mix with fellow guests. Keith is great value; makes even the most mundane game a real laugh.
Food is well-presented but not very exciting, but there again, I wasn't doing the shopping or the cooking so it was great!
Hotel is spotless, rooms fine, power showers are brilliant after a day in the sun.
For such an efficiently run hotel, the staff are the most relaxed we have ever known.
The location is absolutely stunning. 50yards from the front door is the most beautiful beach.
This hotel has the lot.

I went on holiday with my mum, dad and my husband, it was my mum and dads first holiday abroad so i was hoping the hotel wasn,t going to be a let down. It wasn,t a let down it was fantastic, the restaurant staff were exeptionally great as was the restaurant manager. There was a great selection of food. The hotel was in a great location with the beach a two minute walk away and this hotel benefits from being adults only and all inclusive. The maids are very hardworking and friendly and the evening entertainment was always very enjoyable. I would go back to this hotel for sure it was a great holiday.

Arrived at hotel late on at night, reception staff very efficient and we were told if we needed to eat there were snacks and coffee available in the restaurant,we didnt as we needed sleep.
The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly, lots of sunbeds, but you still get people reserving them and staying away for most of the day, very unfair.Pool was lovely and refreshing, not too cold.
Entertainment quite low key,but good fun during the day with games and a quiz in the afternoon, evening consists of a quiz, bingo(which i won the full house and won 220 euros, that was after splitting it with another winner)and a show. This doesnt last too long and isnt noisy as the Mayor of Alcudia lives close by.No loud thumping music which is great as then you can have conversations with others and not have to shout.
Food was really good until the hotel got very busy and then there was too much frozen food being used and not fresh produce,it was a shame because we were raving about it for the first few days.
Still a very good hotel with a lovely walk along the beach up to Alcudia and wouldnt hesitate to go back, but would stay anytime up to the 15th June, not after that as that is when it gets busier.
The reps at Palma airport for our return journey were very rude and not helpful at all.

Never having been to this hotel and having read the reviews we were a little unsure. However when we got to the Hotel we were delighted. We instantly loved the location, it was quite, peaceful and omitted a feeling of calm and tranquility It was just what we needed. The Hotel staff were professional, friendly and helpful, very clean and tidy. The restaurant was always immaculate, the food was plentiful, of a good quality and variety, well presented and not covered in sauces. It was not basic, it was good honest food which suited out diet perfectly. The bedrooms were comfortable, and have just had new beds for the start of the season, they were quite hard but comfortable and we had no problem sleeping. Yes there are carpets in the bedrooms, but how many times have you had the person in the room above you moving furniture at midnight along the tiled floor? that's one of the things that spoilt our last holiday, so we like the carpet and long may it stay. We only stayed a week this time, and so so wished we had booked for two, but we have already decided to go back. I have reccommended this Hotel to everyone I know, young, old, middle aged, everyone. This Hotel would suit any age range depending on what you wanted from your holiday. This Hotel would not be suitable for 'party animals', although there is entertainment if you want it, Games, Bingo, Daily Quiz etc NO Disco's or loud music but plenty of like minded people who are still able to hold a conversation, hold there alcohol and respect other peoples right to a holiday.

we have stayed at this hotel twice, each time for 2 weeks, this was just before it went 'All Inclusive' and used to be Thomson Gold. I am planning a hoilday again here next year and one of the things I was concerned about was whether or not is would have gone downhill going all inclusive, by the sounds of the reviews I have read, it is still the excellent quality it was when we stayed. Not sure why people would moan about it not being a Gold anymore, it's still the same hotel, same quality by the sounds of it, still child free but with the addes bonus of All Inclusive !!! We went there from a family recommendation and were so glad we did. The location to the beach is just superb, the little fridge in the room is fantastic. The supermarket across the road is brilliant, buses run regularly to the local Port Of Alcudia, yes they are packed, but that's the way buses are in Mallorca ! We even got a bus to Palma from outside the hotel, these are coaches and are not packed, they don't have anyone standing up, big bonus here is that you will be the first pick up in the morning, at least it was when we stayed. the hotel was clean, food was sooooo good, dessets were exceptional. We always found the staff so helpful. When you book, you should be able to say if you prefer the 'pool side' or the'road side' for your room. We stayed on the pool side both times. It depends on what you prefer, the pool side is a bit noisier as it over looks the pool but also the main road behind the hotel, we were bothered by this the first night, but then decided it wasn't that bad and we did like to sit on the balcony and see the world go by and the sunset !!...and as I said, we choose this side next time we went.......the other side is overlooking the pretty gardens and a very small narrow and quiet road at the front of the hotel (beach side) this is quieter from traffic noise but does overlook large trees across the road between the hotel and the beach, the trees are not close or anything, would be at least 50metres away, but would obscure a view of the sea. either way, I don't think there is a problem. It does genuinly seem to be a hotel where people go again and again, we were really surprised on our 2nd time there, to see 4 other couples that had been there when we went the first time !! Can't say anymore........got to get back to booking my next holiday there !!!
