My boyfriend and I went to stay at the Sunshine Holiday Resort towards the end of July for 11 nights, we booked through Holidaymate quite last minute and did get a very cheap deal.
Didn't find the receptionist overly friendly and inviting on our arrival and this particular receptionist we found to be quite changable throughout our stay. Were shown to our room by Carlos the barman (sweet guy) and it seemed very clean and basic, what we would expect for the money we had paid. Didn't take us long to notice that the shower door was completely broken and also the door handle to the room very loose and unsecure. We did inform them the next day and to their credit this was fixed immediately. Can't help thinking that they MUST have known about this before putting us in the room though and not sure why you would put paying guests into a room that has things wrong with it.
Bed sheets and towels were changed almost daily which I really liked, the maids also emptied the bins daily. However the floors were never mopped or bathroom properly cleaned and after a week I think this should be done.
Going to stay in Turkey, I understand that there is probably only going to be Turkish breakfast available and am fine with that (although here they will cook a full English for about £2 but I never tried it). The breakfast here was horrible, the food was very cheap and always had flies around it where it had only been initially covered with clingfilm and then this wasn't put back properly, it wouldn't take much to make sure it is in covered containers, maybe with a notice to ask guests to re-cover when they have helped themselves. The flies competely put me off and the only safe things to eat were boiled eggs with bread, if any left, otherwise it was just an apple! As we only stayed b&b we never had an evening meal but heard that it was not very nice and very repetitive, going by the breakfast, I am very glad we didn't stay half-board!
The swimming pool is lovely and generally kept very clean, always lots of sunbeds available. Pool area seemed to get quite dirty and attracted ants at times but one of the other guests complained and I believe this was sorted out.
Generally staff were friendly, the manager was nice and offered us a lift into town when he also happened to be going... his daughter is also lovely and she was our "taxi driver" when we booked transfers to and from the airport through the hotel. However, on the way back, she was stopped by police (quite scary as we were asked to hand over passports etc) who later explained that she/ the car should not have been doing transfers (I guess something to do with insurance etc).
I guess for the money we paid it wasn't bad accomodation to stay in but in the future I would rather pay a little bit more to stay somewhere just that bit nicer, with better food and maybe a more professional outlook from staff. I would like to compliment the barman Okan... what a lovely guy, he started a few days after our arrival and was so friendly and polite to all guests and also his colleagues, he was a genuinely nice guy and we hope to stay in touch with him as he made our nights when we got back from a meal out to sit at the bar for a drink.
As for location, a little out of the way for me but it depends what you like, it was about a 10-15 min walk down to the main road where you can get a dolmus or walk a further 20-25 mins to Hisaronu. Lovely scenery from the hotel though and enjoyed the walk into town in the evenings when it was cooler.
I have given a completely honest review with both good and bad points about the hotel. When speaking to other guests, they had done the same as myself and checked all these holiday review sites before booking and when arriving at the hotel, wondered quite how genuine the reviews were...

Slightly disapointed when first...

Oct 2008, crumpet

Slightly disapointed when first arrived, location was further away from main road than advertised on website. hill is awful, deefinetly not a 10 min walk!
If you walk straight down the hill you head to Friar Tucks restaurant, this is good for food and the staff are very friendly especially the owner. they also do a good deal on exchange rate if you need to change money. We usually got a dolmus from here down to the main strip at hisaronu, sometimes we walked it though, but dolmuses are cheap enough just to hop on and off.
Hotel is quite clean and rooms are comfortable although the rooms advertised on the website are not availabe as the owners young daughter lives there! most rooms just had 2 or 3 beds and a tv on the wall (channel 9 ha ha)
A fridge was also in the room im not sure why because you wasnt allowed any food or drink in the rooms, they were quite strict with this, one couple we were talking to had their fridge taken away! so simple answer for this- bring food or drink you need for the room in your beachbag and make sure you take it out of the fridge when you go out during the day! thats what we did.
Breakfast was ok i didnt really bother because most mornings it was covered in wasps. most people seemed happy with the food, if you want a good english breakfast there are loads of restaurants in hisaronu you can get one for about £2 - if restaurants advertise in english money then pay for it with english money otherwise you will be paying more for it because they will give you a bad exchange rate!
if you want to go to the beach ask reception to ring down for you, the will pick you up free of charge and then take you back afterwards, there are quite a few beaches that does this, our favourite was Seahorse really nice and chilled out, clear sea and lovely views from the restaurant.
Markets in hisaronu on a mon and fethiye on a tues, make sure you haggle you can get them down to a reasonable price on designer bags, clothes footie shirts etc.
Go to fethiye for the day jump on the taxi boat to chalis, it is lovley there, we stayed till eve on the beach there watching the sunset, beautiful! also theres bars there that sell large beer for 1.50 lire very cheap!
Trips were reasonable priced (but be aware that they are always late picking you up sometimes may even forget) we did the mud baths, and boat trips, all good fun they also provide a photographer during the day he takes photos that you are able to buy on a disc, make sure you haggle they will go down in price! but keep it quiet!
Overall had a lovely holiday would definetly return to hisaronu probably not to the hotel though as the walk was off putting.

where do i start....... excellent holiday great value for money,
from arrival to departure the staff were friendly and could not do enough for you, from the lovely man who carried our cases to the room(and put them back on the bus when we left), the cleaners, barstaff, and the lovely manageress.
the rooms were spotless and cleaned daily. the breakfast was basically the same as you get all over turkey (scrambled egg, tomato, bread, jam etc)but was plentifull and filling and got you off to good start.
the pool was great and hard to drag yourself away from, plenty of sunloungers, and enough room to sunbathe comfortably.
its worth remembering this property is on a hillside and its easy going down, but not as easy getting back up during the day. but in the evening is not too bad, however taxis are quite cheap and we walked down and got a taxi back.the only other thing i thought would help is a book like you usually get with local info on taxi fares, bus stops, local supermarkets, market days etc we had to rely on asking other guests but to be fair when we mentioned it to the management they said they are going to put one together asap. all in all a lovely place and a lovely holiday and would recommend this hotel

I stayed at this hotel in july with my husband and three children aged 17,15 & 10. This hotel states on the website that it is 16 min walk from centre , more like a 25 min walk downhill and a 40 min uphill. We only had bed and breakfast , thank goodness as breakfast was often the previous nights dinner leftovers, The hotel claims to offer room service , a laundry service and newspapers none of which was true. The management treated their guests terribly, when we complained of a plumbing issue in our room we were told that to call in a plumber it would cost more than what we paid for our holiday and took the management 2 days to sort out, locks on the doors were also broken. The drinks were very expensive and ther was no entertainment at the hotel.
On a positive note the pool was lovely and the rooms were clean!

lovely hotel rooms clean and spacious staff friendly pool fantastic but no jacuzzi as stated food ok could do with more variety and evening meal not served until around half eight should be earlier. there is a steep hill to walk down and up again to main road to catch buses we did it twice then got taxis. hisaranu is about 15 to20 min walk not 5 as stated taxi costs about 5 pound one way. i would recommend taking mostly english currency with you, you get better deals and most places want it. it was our first time to turkey would definatley go back. if you fly to dalaman airport be warned very expensive on return journey macdonalds 20 pound! take food with you to airport.one other thing we not told about you need to get a visa when you arrive at turkey costs£10 and that has to be english currency.

I have just come home from 1 week at the Sunshine Holiday Resort and I'm missing it already. I made some great new friends and the people working there did everything possible to make my stay enjoyable.
It is 5 minutes walk to the edge of the town and 15 to the busy part. This is perfect if you want a chilled out break with everything in good reach of where you're staying
The apartments are spotless with all the facilities I needed
You can laze by the pool, take a trip to the blue lagoon close by or go on one of the many excursions. I travelled alone and felt safe all the time. The Manageress and the bar staff were very friendly and always kept us entertained at this peaceful but fun resort.
I would go back to the Sunshine Holiday Resort tomorrow!

Jul 2008, Miss C TATTERSALL

I travelled to Turkey, Ovacik with my Mum and younger brother for a week. We had a FANTASTIC time!! The Sunshine hotel is fairly new and still ironing out a few creases such as the quantities of food available at breakfast, but was spotlessly clean, really quiet, friendly, helpful and efficient. The pool is massive with loads of sunbeds and plenty of space, and a little family of tortoises living on the island in the middle of the pool! The bar staff are really friendly - but watch out for Tom...he's like a big kid who wants to have fun continuously!
The hotel is a bit out the way, almost up in the mountains down a few dirt tracks...but this was not a problem at all. 5/10 minute walk down hill takes you to the main road for cheap busses and cabs. The cab was only 8 lire into the busy (and brilliant) Hisaronu which is about £3.50.
I cannot wait to get back to Ovacik...its a lovely quiet resort where you can relax and very easily get to the busy town of Hisaronu and the beautiful, relaxing Olu Dinez. I would reccomend this holiday to ANYONE!!
