Sofa Hotel & Residence

The hotel is very hip, chic and modern. Totally comfortable. Located a little bit off the beaten path in a very swanky part of the city. Lots of high end shopping and restaurants. Very westernized...nothing like the old city. It was nice to take the ferry from near the hotel into the old part of the city. Also located within walking distance to Taksim Square.

The location of the Hotel is great. The rooms are amazing! Big, bathrooms are beautiful, flatscreen TV, DVD players, extremely comfy slippers, very nice and stylish toilettries, etc etc etc. NICE spa. Breakfats I would describe as "light". BUT: we were charged for stuff we didnt have. Personal belongings were removed from our room (careful choice of words here) and some of the staff was simply extremely rude. We stayed for 4 nights at the Sofa and loved the oversized rooms, amazingly delicious Tuus (and wonderful owner Zeynap), delightful front desk staff and the the glorious location. Only downside was the concierge who seemed to have his own agenda, which did not necessarily match ours, but I am quite sure that a hotel of this caliber and quality will rectify that oversight. we will be back!

We stayed for 2 nights in September 2007 Great location ( nice to be away from the tourist areas) - rooms bigger then average. Above average bath products. The concierge is very professional- always made sure that the taxi was using a meter and getting a quote on taxis( beware of taxis in Istanbul- if someone quotes you any more that 10 YLT to get anywhere any refuses to put on their meter get out before you start! We had 40 ylt quotes for rides that ended up being 10YLT! Problem with the hotel was refusing to honour Orbitz... more

As part of our honeymoon we stayed a couple of days in Istanbul in Sultanahmet, then visited Cappadocia, and then thought we'd try a trendier area of Istanbul so went for the Sofa in Nisantasi. So so glad that we did. We were impressed straight away by the cool lifts, the trendy reception where we had a complimentary drink and then by our outstanding, large deluxe room. This is one of the finest hotels I have ever stayed in, and I highly recommend it. I have stayed in hotels with finer rooms, fancier lobbies, in USA etc, but what sets this hotel apart is the quality and the friendliness of the staff. The SPA has a fabulous indoor pool, sauna, and Hammam (try the Turkish massage called KESE ) . The service is exceptional. I have stayed in Sofa Hotel & Residence for one week last month and it was my best travel experience ever. I am Turkish citizien who lives in Rome. Because of my job, I have to travel a lot aroung Europe. I stayed in lots of hotels but Sofa Hotel & Residence was best. All the facilities in the hotel was design very well and crew was so friendly. I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in July 2007. I can easily say that it is one of the most comfortable (if not best) hotel in Istanbul. I stayed in a standard room and it is definitely bigger than many standard rooms of 5 star hotels. The room is very nicely decorated which made me feel myself in my own bedroom rather than a hotel. This is a hotel with great promise, but it fails to deliver. If you are used to staying in 5 star hotels, avoid this hotel. It was like staying in a 3 star hotel with 5 star attitudes. More importantly, there is a major construction site across the street -- loud construction continued throughout the entire night on our first night. Finally, at 3 a.m. we demanded a new room in the back, but we had to downgrade from our 1 bedroom suite to a junior suite at the back of the property. We spent five nights at the Sofa in May -- as the other reviewers have said, it's an excellent place to stay. Before that, we'd had three nights in one of the major luxury five star hotels which, while lavish, lack the warmth and intimate feel of the Sofa. The people who work at the Sofa are amazing -- friendly, helpful, always available -- can't say enough good things.
