After reading the other reviews on the hotel we were actually pleasantly surprised we couldn't fault the cleanliness or the decor of our room. It was adequately equiped to cope with what little cooking we did in the apartment as there were more than enough places to eat out at reasonable prices.....special mentions for Karens just up the road opposite the supermarket and just a little further up the seafront the chinese restaurant buffet was excellent value for money. Next door to there was restaurant natalie where we had a good few meals their steak pie is to die for yum yum. Next door again is another good restaurant their set menu meal is good value.

The only down side to the hotel is as has been said before poor locks on the doors and patio doors especially as the ghost of roc portonova still appears active and from what it seems has his or her own set of keys. We came back earlier than usual on our last night there to find our front door open and on investigation the bolts on the patio door had also been opened, luckily because we had read the reviews we did not leave anything of value in the apartment so did not lose anything. Albeit a gut reaction we feel we disturbed them by coming back earlier than usual.

It really seems a shame that the ghost hasnt been excorcised as the staff appear helpful and friendly and the hotel is very good value for money in the most wonderful location.

This hotel is at the most quiet end of the resort. But it's only about 5 euros in a taxi to Magaluf. For us this was perfect. Quiet days and noisy nights and then a very quiet hotel to come back to.

It cost approx 35 euros in a taxi from the airport. There is a supermarket about 100m along the road. Much cheaper than the local spar!!!

The hotel has a pool both inside and outside and a great pool bar for a beer as the sun goes down. We stayed in a 2 bed apartment on the first floor. Fantasic views over the pool, the small marina and the beach behind. Rooms were a good size for 4 people. The rooms were clean but a bit in need of some paint. But we didn't spend a lot of time in them. Kitchen had a good size Fridge, freezer, small micro oven and a 4 ring hob. Basic utencils, but most things you would need. Maid service was a bit sporadic, 2 days the room wasn't cleaned. But every time the maid did come, there was fresh towels and the beds were made. Whilst the security at the hotel was a bit poor, no locks on the windows and a very flimsy lock on the balcony door, there is a safe in the room to hire. But at no point did we feel unsafe. But would suggest you locked all valuables up whenever you go out.

Check in was great, they were ready and waiting for us, fastest checkin ever. Very helpful at reception. Paul the entertainer was very entertaining especially as it was his first week!!!

Great holiday with the girls, cheap and cheerful and would defo go again.

Roc Portonova Apartments proved to be in a good location with exellent views and good transport links to local areas. My family and I were not impressed with our room. Reasons Why :

Security not good at all ( poor door locks, although there was a saftey deposit box in the room).

State of Room ( not very clean , needs referbishment).

We were situated on the ground floor facing the pool and beaches. All the other ground floor apartments that were facing the pool had a step and gate access to the pool area. We had none.

Also there was a reer yard area leading on from the kitchen that was very untidy and poorly maintained. It didnt have a roof on top, the security on it was not good and proved to be noisy.

( We asked to be moved but they said there was no available rooms).

Good Points :

Get what you payed for.

Internet Access ( even though you had to pay).

2 pools, 1 indoor, 1 outdoor.

Pool Snack Bar.

Staff Friendly, always on hand.

Overall we would go back to Palma Nova but would not necessarily stay at this hotel.

We have just spent a week with friends at these apartments. We would grade them at 2 star.

They are looking very tired and could do with total make-over. No 2 apartments are the same for example we had a gas cooker, next door was a 2 ring electric, they had a microwave, we had not, our TV was fine, and theirs was not.

The patio doors are not very secure(a flimsy hook and weak bolt). The crockery and cutlery is a bit strange, a few knives, forks and spoons and the same with the crockery.

After saying all of that, they are very clean with a VERY good maid service nearly every day, sheets changed at least every 2 days as where the towels.

Pool is good with sun beds but some were broken. Prices at the pool bar where on average fair with friendly staff.

Reception staff are first class and nothing is too much trouble for them(David is a winner!).

Would we book again? Maybe if it had a total revamp. Good value I hear you say? Only if you book with them direct. Happy holiday to you.

Just arrived home from 10 days in the Portonova, this was our third year in a row, not so many Brits here as usual, first night was very noisy, then just a few in the week. Always as people arrive back at 2am from a night out, not helpful with three children sleeping though! This was a nice holiday, but not the best, standards slipping slightly.

Lovely location, a minute from the beach, a fab supermarket around he corner, Eroski, very very cheap, get your ice-lollys there! Maid service fantastic, so friendly and polite too!

You must be up early as people queue at the locked door from 8.30am! Until the door is unlocked to get a sun-lounger, I watched and laughed everyday as by 9am all 110 sun-loungers had towels on!! Amazing! As sometimes these loungers were still left like this until mid afternoon!

Stefan is a fab entertainer and the kids loved him and his party songs. David on reception can’t do enough for you; he is from Manchester and is a great person! Thank you David!

There is pool and table tennis around the pool and you must go and remind security at 12am to lock up, otherwise all you hear all night is pop, pop, and pop! Bar staff lovely, food there is great to.

Just down the road is the Kompas bar, lovely people again fab food.

Internet available for 2 euros for 30 mins, kept the kids happy as they stay in touch with friends on msn.

We have just spent our first family holiday abroad together in these apartments and all I can say is the staff were friendly and helpful especially David on reception who sorted out a transport problem very quickly.

Stefan the entertainer was great organising things for the kids to do during the day and part of the evening. We all enjoyed a few games of pool volleyball one afternoon.

The waiters in the poolside bar were very friendly and also cooked and served the food too which was good value for money.

The apartments may just need a few more utensils and pans but if you are on holiday who wants to cook really? Although it would be nice if all the appliances worked, oven yes, grills and microwave no.

We had some lovely meals including the pizzeria/restaurant next-door and a lovely Mexican a few metres up the road La cuccaracha excellent food and it was lovely to sit outside enjoying a great meal and people watching!

All in all it was a great holiday and the kids want us to book again now for next year!

We have just returned from a week staying at the Roc Portonova in Palma Nova and having read comments on this site before going, I was a bit apprehensive about what our holiday might be like. However, we enjoyed the week so much the kids want to go back again next year.

David, on reception, is friendly and helpful regarding where to catch buses for certain places, to chasing up late running airport pick ups (we did make it in time for our flight, not the hotel's fault!).

Stefan, the entertainer, is very hard working and is there every day but Saturday from 11 in the morning until 11 at night entertaining everyone, not just the kids! We all enjoyed the pool volleyball competition and it got lots of "nations" together having fun in the pool! The kids loved his bingo to win a free "cocktail"!

The waiters are great too, working long hours but always with a smile. Some Brits could do with learning from them sometimes.

We ate at the pizzeria/Italian restaurant next to the hotel, which did lovely food. On another night, we tried a Mexican place a short level walk away (la Cuccaracha) and their food was great too.

All in all - a great holiday and the area in which the hotel is situated is level but quiet too, which is great if you don't like the hustle and bustle of places like Magaluf.

Highly recommend a stay at the Roc Portonova.

We stayed in a 2 bed apartment with 3 young children. All had a fab time.

Apartment was nice & clean. There was a pool (not huge) and sand pit with slides etc. The kids didn't want to leave the pool area all week.

Entertainment was provided in the evenings and a small kids club for hour or so twice a day.

The food at the pool bar was fine for lunch times. Would definitely stay here again.

Roc Portonova is at the very end of Palma Nova therefore if you wanted to go into Magaluf I would suggest a taxi.

There are loads of bars/restaurants nearby. It is in the quieter part of the resort but we had a lovely relaxing time. Breakfast was available for 5 Euros pp. Children under 5 were foc.

This is a great place to stay,...

This is a great place to stay, the twin rooms are located on the side road which gets noisy in the morning. But when the waters warm and the skies are blue who wants to stay in bed.

The rooms are Clean and tidy and have everything you expect for a very good price. Bathroom I could not fault. We did not use the pool as the sea is 200 metres away.

Yes the corridors are long but these were built in the Mid 70's so not a lot you can do. Trust me If you Fart too loud it echoes down the corridor. So I would not worry about safety.

I have stayed twice and will be booking again this weekend for next year. The hotel rooms all have safes.

This hotel is in a great position near the beach and about a 40 minute walk into the centre of magaluf. The walk is a great way to view the many shops, bars and restaurants that line the streets and side roads. One which springs to mind is the MOCUBAR.

You could eat there 3 times a day and not find fault. superb Food, Polite English couple they do not show Peter Kay, Only fools and horses and make you put your shirt on if you are going to eat there. 10 out of 10.

We had a one bedroom apartment where all one beds were at the side of the road which was quite noisy on a morning when the bins were being emptied. Nice spacious and roomy with fridge, microwave, cooker, kettle and toaster and all the pots and pans you would need for self catering.

Pool was nice and it was good not having to fight for sun loungers as we went at the quiet time into the first week of September. Poolside snacks were good and food was fresh with a happy hour for drinks 2 for price of one for 15 minutes each day. Stefan the kids entertainer was great with the kids, he was pleasant and always on the go making the kids happy.

TV was free although you put down a 20 Euro deposit for the remote, we didn’t know about this til we were nearly going home so didn’t bother, you got ITV, Euro spot and Sky News.

Apart from the state of the hotel locks on doors and patio doors, this is a lovely place to stay, they need to sort out security for each and every apartment.

We arrived back from the PortoNova last Thursday night and had a pleasant stay there. The air conditioning was adequate and the apartments are very spacy and airy and we were in room 18 on the ground floor.

The kitchen was basic but had everything you needed, fridge, utensils, cooker and toaster, all in working order.

The only good moan I would have about this place was lack of security. The door leading to our apartment was useless, it looked as though our door had been forced open by thieves plenty of times previously so I immediately on our arrival went to reception and hired a safety deposit box for the duration of our stay.

The patio doors were held shut by one tiny little bolt that was useless, so you may as well have left the patio doors onto the balcony open all the time as the doors slid open even with the bolt locked.

On the Wednesday, one family were robbed of all their passports, money and travellers cheques and the hotel did nothing, they didn't have a safe and seemed as though they had been targeted. That day and night five other apartments were robbed, all of money and travellers cheques and passports, again the hotel were not liable as these families didn't hire a safe.

As there were 42 out of 80 apartments empty, it certainly seemed like the robbers knew which rooms were occupied, they knew who didn't have safes so I don't know if it was an inside job but it certainly seemed that way. The families who had safes didn't seem to have a break in as i spoke to some of them round the pool area.

The pool was nice but went deep really quickly with no warning signs on the side, and it was cleaned every day and the sun bed area was hosed down every day. The entertainer Stefan was very very nice and worked really hard all day to keep the kids entertained, he worked his socks off to please everyone, credit to him for doing a fantastic job.

The break-ins would not put me off going back here because with the peace of mind of hiring a safe for 3 euros a day, you know your valuables are covered by the hotel if the safe is broken into. I liked the apartments and was really quiet and peaceful on a night and loved the space they have. I will probably go back next year, just security that needs sorting there.

Just returned after short break...

Just returned after short break of 7 nights. Can’t fault the resort its beautiful enjoyed the holiday apart from the last day when all that can be said is the ghost at the roc portonva apartments decided to pay us a visit and relieve us of 2 mobile phones and a digital camera.

Funny really when you’re on the ground floor and before leaving your apartment you check all the windows are locked and the doors are secure.

Pitty with it being the last day, we didn’t cram everything into the safe deposit box. Ah well, foolish me, it must of been a ghost because the receptionist was adamant no one else could have gained access to our room. So just a little warning to anyone who might stay there, don’t think for one minute your belongings will be ok just because you have checked the windows and doors!

They come through your door and they come when you’re out and those spirits have keys! Don’t be as foolish as we were because your valuables will just disappear like ours. You have been warned. Happy Holidays!

I love the location of this...

I love the location of this hotel it’s near enough to the nightlife but far away enough to get some sleep.

I go to Palma nova3/4 times a year as I have family who run a restaurant there (Real Dion) yes the roc is a bit shabby and painted in brown everywhere, but the staff are helpful, I booked a one bedroom apartment for a week for 150 quid and they put me in a two bed roomed for the same price! Its cheap its cheerful and its near everything.

In fact I’m just booking up to go in October.

Me and my partner have just come back from a two week stay in Majorca where 5 nights were based in Portonova apartments.

We found that that the apartments were clean but were not secure and some parts were falling to pieces, i.e. the ceiling in the bathroom. The patio doors were also loose and did not shut properly.

On our third night, after returning from a night out we came back to see that our ground floor apartment had been broken into. Through the patio doors. We had all our money, electronics, clothes, my make up, jewelry and perfume/ aftershave taken. This was unbelievable and ruined our holiday.

The hotel was no help at all, asking us to stay in the room until the following day when the manager was there. The receptionist did not even talk English. We felt totally alone on the matter.

If the hotel was secure this would not have happened. From then on I felt totally unsafe in that hotel. The corridors are very long and there are not many people about so its very unsafe for women and that’s not how you want to feel on holiday.

We definitely would not recommend the Porto-Novo apartments!

Very unsafe!
