Son Caliu Hotel Spa Oasis

I reserved a room in July, for a long weekend with my wife. We arrived at 10 PM to find that the there was no room left for us. The reservation had our reservation in the list, but had somehow messed things up. They offered us to stay in the simple departments they have in an annex. We know the Annex from another visit. Never ever book the Annex, unless you are a back-backer accepting anything as long as you get a place to protect you from the rain... Stayed at the apartment section of this hotel i August 2005. The apartment was in a separate building approx. 300 meters from the hotel. We had access to all facilities at the hotel. The apartments is overlooking the small artificial beach, (see photo). It's nice to be close to the sea, but it's not a place to stay for swimming. Booked one week in a suite, but on our arrival we didn't get a suite but two little rooms comunicated by a door. Only after two days we finally got the requested suite (definitively not what we expected from a 4 star hotel!) Personally we considered the hotel in general a 3 star instead as presented on the internet as a 4 star). The restaurant staff was extremly nice and helpfull and solved all the "problems" you have, when you travel with kids and babies. We found this hotel absolutely fine as a base for a short break to Palma Nova (Easter Weekend). We went half board and found the hotel and our room to be clean and the buffet style restaurant food very good. I would recommend this hotel for a short break as it offers you peace and quiet if thats what you seek. Alternatively, a ten minute walk takes you the bars and restaurants of the Palma Nova resort.

Very tired Hotel. Booked Self Catering Apartment which was sub standard. Basically clean but not comfortable. Wiring appeared dangerous. Poorly equiped. Hotel rooms appeared to be a bit better. Wanted to change room but found staff unhelpful. Woken each morning by maid dragging bin downstairs. No lifts in apartment blocks. Towels left outside on walls and conatined ants when put in bathroom. Air conditioning was good. Left after a fews days and moved to a lovely apartmotel in the next bay. A solid three star hotel. The buffet was nice and generous, the wait staff excellent (tried almost too hard to please the children). Room 101 had a king size bed, nice balcony area, and large bathroom, and was very clean. Also very close to the bar, should be heavy sleeper if you expect to sleep before 2am. TV was too small. The pool area was small, but adequate. The beach was dissapointing - the waterfront was actually concrete - you have to use a pool ladder to get in the water. Ok for a short break; hotel is clean and tidy however we had to move rooms 3 times until we got what we booked. Staff terrible short and un attentive unless of course it appeared you were German.Pretty little cove with a decent resturant but; you`d have to get up very early to beat the germans were the best positions are concerned- good idea to keep the beds all chained up though.Diffilcult at breakfast time espicially knowing where to sit and no variety of food unless you like eggs and bacon.Being a constant traveller I would descibe the... more

the staff were very helpful and attentive. the hotel was spotlessly clean. the food was fresh and plentiful and the swimming area was great.

A comfortable hotel, attentive staff, good quality and abundent food on the half board rate, we found the deal very good quality. For a Best Western 4* pretty good overall, and well bestowed with leisure activities and space to relax. Easy access to an excellent bus service makes transit around the island simple, efficient and economic. The local recommended restaurants are excellent also. A well situated and economic solution for a short break, representing good value for money.

The Hotel Son Caliu is a very mid-range (just about 4 stars, middle of the road) hotel. It is NOT a luxury hotel. However, it is reasonably comfortable. It is clean, safe and friendly. It is located between Palma Nova (down market-ish, over developed and caters to the British) and Puerto Portals (upmarket marina with lovely bars, cafes etc.).
