Spectacular views -great staff
from OssyLancashire
Just spent a week at the Kalamar Hotel, the views from anywhere are great, especially the breakfast area. The rooms were very clean and the staff most helpful, anything we asked for eg more pillows, new hairdryer when theirs broke was done as soon as possible. The free transport into town and to the beach club is very handy. The beach club is great and has very helpful staff. The hotel was more less empty the week we were there, so we had a whole, massive balcony to ourselves. Couldn't find any faults with this hotel and would love to go back.
Amazing location, brilliant service.

We have just returned from a week's holiday in hotel Kalamar. We were originally the only guests in the hotel and were given a duplex room which was next to the honeymoon suite. When another couple arrived on the first night they were placed in the room right next to us which was quite disturbing noise-wise! The next morning I went to speak to Cadair, the manager to say we had been a bit disturbed by the couple next door and he immediately moved us to the honeymoon suite! It was stunning, with our own terrace, massive sofas and another upstairs balcony all with the most beautiful sea view. The apartment itself wasn't massive but as we were a three one of us had the sofa bed downstairs. For a couple the size would be more than adequate. Breakfast was served by Eugel, a really nice guy who was so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was quite traditional (unlimited eggs, bread, jam, salad, olives, tea and coffee) so not the usual cereal and cooked english which come of the guests were a bit disappointed with! I have to say that given there was only about 6 rooms occupied whilst we were there, I can't imagine what it would be like in peak season. there isn't a lot of room on the breakfast terrace so maybe people just have to book a time or something. Also the beach club apparently gets packed in summer. (NB no actual beach, just rocks and diving boards into the sea). Because of the time of year there was no dinner offered at the hotel but we prefered to walk into Kalkan and sample some of the amazing restaurants there. So much choice and a real mix of cheap Turkish affairs with the more expensive Tourist options down on the Harbour area. The maids made up our room everyday and made the sweetest little "towel baby" with the towels! Anything we asked for (Kettle, bottle opener etc) was provided instantly. The pool at the hotel is pretty small but seeing as we had our own private sunbating terrace we didn't really use the pool. Lastly, a word of warning. Drive really carefully if you take the coastal road between Kalkan and Kas. We had a crash and ended up with two flat tires and a massive dent in the back of the hire car! Noone was hurt luckily but especially in the wet the coastal road is a bit dangerous. All in all, Hotel Kalamar exceeded my expectations and I would definitely go back but not in the high season.
Fantastic Holiday

My husband and i went to Kalamar Hotel for a 2 weeks holiday and had the most amazing time. The location is truly spectacular with the most beautiful views from a hotel we have ever witnessed. Our honeymoon suite was gorgeous, decorated and kitted out to a very high standart. What makes this hotel so special is the service: Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff, the attention to detail is stunning , especially when they set up the truely romantic seaside dinners at their beach club or the Turkish BBQ. The food is magical, the Beach club is complimentary and simply stunning. We will definitely be going back - we highly recommend it! hotel link for you.. [-] Adam&Sam L Rise
Great place

just back from a wonderful week in Kalkan where we stayed at the Kalamar Hotel. The hotel has a wonderful view and allows free access to the associated Beach Club, great place to spend a day sunbathing and swimming in the lovely warm sea. The room was very clean but fairly small - don't drop the soap in the shower!! Though more than adequate for our purposes. On arriving at about midnight we found there was no soap or toilet roll, but this was probably just an oversight during morning cleaning, as the next day we were back on track. The staff were extrememly helpful and friendly with nothing too much trouble for them. A simple but more than adequete breakfast was served each morning oh the deck overlooking the whole bay - couldn't have asked for a better start to the day. Many a banter was shared on "the morning after" by fellow travellers. The hotel is a little way from the town centre - fairly easy walk there but quite a tough return, espcially in the heat. Still, nothing wrong with a little exercise to walk off all the delicious food consumed from the many fantastic restaurants.
Lovely Hotel

Just come back from a week at the Kalamar Hotel in Kalkan. The hotel was lovely and clean, rooms were a good size. We booked a duplex apartment (on 2 floors) and it was modern and spacious. Air con was fab! The views form the hotel are absolutely breathtaking. The hotel overlooks the gorgeous bay. To get down to the beach club (which was free) there are steps that lead from the hotel. It's an easy climb down but going up would be another story after a hard days sunbathing! Luckily there is a free shuttle bus that picks you up almost instantly should you need it. As mentioned in other reviews, drinks and food aren't cheap at the beach club £3.00 for a beer and £7.00 for a burger n chips...but overall not too bad at all. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free. There is a shuttle service into town in the morning and evening. Kalkan town is full of fantastic restaurants. I would highly recommend Korsan Fish Terrace (try the jumbo prawns or fish platter) and Korsan Kebab (black sea lamb pide) both owned by the same people. 3 course meal with bottle of wine approx £50
Great Little Hotel

Lovely location over looking a quite bay, we had a two storey accomodation, but would have prefered it on one floor as we tended to stay up stairs because of the access to the balcony, but that is my only issue. It was q quite location, exceptionally friendly staff, breakfast basic but set you up for the day. Very clean place. Swimming pool only small, but you had the use of the Kalamar Beach Club which was excellent and there was a free bus to and from as it is quite a way below the hotel. Apparently a new pool is planned for next year. A free bus at 9am and 8pm into Kalkan, which is about a 40 minute walk but with the hills and the heat not recommended. Pleanty of excellent restaurants in Kalakan, we did eat at the Beach Club which is very good for value, but beware, food and drink prices are similar to our own so not a cheap holiday and you need to take into account also taxi was about five pounds each way. It is strictly for those who want to relax, sunbathe and swim. We hired a car at twenty five pounds a day for two days, and a boat trip, the hotel rep helped with both of these as we are not ones for total relaxation and the trips to the Gorge, Sunken City, Pretara Beach and Oluz Deniz were excellent.
beautiful views

We have just returned from a week stay at Kalamar hotel. Overall we had a great time, i was a tad worried even though all the reviews i had read were good. We arrived in the early evening and were greeted by the hotel staff who were very friendly and we were helped with our baggage to our amazing sea front room. A downside is that this hotel would not be suitable for anyone with back problems or the elderly as it has alot of stairs which are quite steep. Our room was beautiful, we had a duplex room with a balcony and the view was absolutly breathtaking. This hotel is the most far up the mountain and right at the edge, so it looks as if you ar on the deck of a ship looking down at the sea! The hotel has its own beach club which is the best in Kalkan with its private beach. Downside, much more expensive than the rest of turkey, be careful of what you put on your tab as they can add on stuff which they did to us, make sure you sign each reciept. It does seem a bit tedious but if you dont want to get ripped off you have no choice. Water sports are far too expensive a 10 minite ride on the phantom or banana boat is the same as a day trip on a boat with all food included?? Kalkan town is gorgeous but again all hills so it is very steep, not suitable for unfit people!! Bars and restaurants are plenty and you are completly spoilt for choice, I would strongly recommend, illayda, Belgins kitchen and Salt and pepper and would say avoid Rendezvous, which is on the roof terrace, we booked a table with the head waiter the previous evening and he promised us the best table and also challenged us saying that if the food wasnt the best we had, had in Kalkan that we would not have to pay!! I was up to the challange! and when we turned up, not only did they not reserve it but they made us wait 20 minits and then offered us a middle table, even though the manager tried to beg us to stay saying that he would give us a special evening we felt a bit cheated as other peoples tables had been reserved. We eventually left and went across the road to The Ivy which was much better. I reccomend you book a boat trip early as they get booked out, we went on Yildiz 2 which is family run and we had a great day, Osman the skipper has his wife and 2 daughters to help with the boat and cook the freshly cooked fish, which is caught in front of your very eyes! He has an adorable little 4 year old who truly entertains you. The food was tantalizing and plentiful. A great day! Overall i would say that Kalkan is quite an exclusive part of Turkey, mainly for tourists, those that live there are those who have holiday homes or those that are retired. To buy a 3 bed villa would cost over 260,000 european prices, only your not in europe. I get the feeling they are trying to be something they are not, which is the downside. You need to be on the ball all the time so as to not get ripped off which is a shame when your on holiday. We wouldnt go there any time soon as there is so much off Turkey to visit. But it is an experience the town is truly beatiful.
Excellent

We have just returned from a week's stay at the Kalamar Hotel. We booked the hotel last minute, so we didnt expect it to be anything special. The hotel was amazing! I understand its been refurbished recently so all the rooms were immaculate and to a top standard. The views from our hotel room/private vernada were amazing, absoloutely breathtaking. The website pictures really dont do the hotel justice. The hotel manager was very attentive and personable, so we felt we could go to him with anything. You have breakfast outside over looking the sea with the most stunning views, it really puts you in a good mood for the rest of the day. The hotel has its own beach with water sports so there were days when we wouldnt leave the place. If I had to give any negatives, I would say that some of the staff were a little immature which became annoying sometimes and the hotel is a 15-20 min walk to Kalkan town centre (but there is a shuttle bus from the hotel so its not too much of a problem). Overall though, I would definintely go back, I had a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommened it to others!

Kalamar Hotel

We've just returned from our first stay in Kalkan and couldn't have picked a better hotel to stay at. The view from our balcony and hotel terrace across the kalamar bay was tremendous but the view from the honeymoon deluxe room magical. We could watch the sunset so clear. The room itself was an adequate size with plenty of storage space, aircon and sattalite tv included in our price. And a double bed (most times it just twins). Plenty of hot water. The pool area was clean with good quality and friendly service.. Food was excellent and freshly prepared if we couldn't be bothered to go down to the town excellent, Mr Kader, the manager is so charming thanks for great holiday. I can't think of a lovelier place to relax and peacefull holiday. [--] Yes the area is hilly, but taxis are quite cheap also hotel has free service running to town(twice a day). P.S: hotel also have own beach club which is one of the best in whole town.

Dear All, Now I know what all the other reviews were going on about. This is a really charming hotel: great position and food, and wonderful staff. They work incredibly hard but genuinely seem to enjoy it and have fun, which makes a huge difference to the guests. Hotel also... more
