Tryp Bellver

We read the last review having just returned from the hotel today. The only thing we can say is that the previous reviewers must have had an unusual experience. Sometimes people get the reception they deserve if they are offhand with staff, as the staff are only human. I don't know if this is the case here or not. We were disappointed that every time we went to, or past, reception, the staff always seemed to be on the phone or huddled round their PC. There was not a lot of eye contact with guests. We were also disappointed that the bathroom linen in this four-star hotel was not worthy of a 3-star establishment. We booked this hotel to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, we booked this hotel because of the location to the marina and the fabulous views. The rooms were furnished well ,with an enormous clean bathroom. we had a sea view room but as we were on the first floor we were limited as to what we could see. The service in the hotel was fabulous, the staff could not have been more helpful, from the cleaners to the reception. My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 9 nights in September. We had previously used the hotel a couple of years ago and the standard was still as good. The room was large and spotlessly clean. The hotel facilities were all excellent. We got a good room only deal through Sol Melia and used the MAS card to get 2 for 1 breakfast which was excellent value. My husband and I have just returned from an 11 night holiday at this great hotel. This was our 1st stay at the Tryp Bellver but it won't be the last. The reception staff spoke very good English and the check-in and check-out were very quick. The hotel location is perfect as it is only a short distance from the airport and costs only 16euros by taxi. Booked this hotel as a package including flights with Globespan and had a great holiday. The journey in from the airport takes about 15 - 20 minutes depending on the traffic and costs 18 Euros in a taxi. First impressions of the hotel were not enhanced by some building work going on to the side of the entrance however this did not cause us any problems during our stay. I booked a three day stay for 4 couples in our 40's / early 50's and, following other trip advisor contributors' advice, requested the sea / cathedral view rooms advertised on Sol Melia's website reservation form. I also requested four adjacent double rooms on the same high floor to cushion the effect of the traffic noise. Just returned from a four night break at the Tryp Bellver. We had requested a sea/cathedral view room prior to arriving and we weren't disappointed. Absolutely fantastic position right in front of the marina and looking over the bay. Taxi rank directly outside and bus stop just down the road made it easy to get around although only a 15-20 minute stroll along to the cathedral. Great hotel, reception/concierge very friendly and helpful. Got a really good rate for the room, so when offered Sea View room upgrade for €18 we took them up on the offer. Only drawback there was it tended to be noisy at night, so you couldn't have the balcony door open all night which meant the room got quite warm. I am a fan of the Sol Melia chain having used them extensively when I lived in Latin America. The Tryp Bellver did not disappoint. A standard four star in an excellent location, there was nothing really to comment on other than the restaurant and bar are rather average, although reasonably priced. Like many Spanish hotels they don't really expect their guests to eat in the hotel which is reasonable given the available cafes and restaurants in Palma.
