Happy at Dersaadet
Istanbul is a big, bustling city and coming back to this clean, charming, friendly hotel at the end of the day was a delight. The location was perfect for exploring the historic sites, and my favorite place for typical Turkish food, the Doy Doy Restaurant, is just up the road. Breakfast on the terrace offered a lovely view of the Bosphorous (we drank wine on the terrace in the evenings, too) and they even had good coffee! A laptop computer with internet access was available for free in the lobby and the staff was very helpful in... more
Charming and cozy
We just returned from our trip in Istanbul. We didn't know anything about Istanbul when we booked this hotel, but we booked this hotel because it was a converted Ottoman house. We were very happy that we stayed at the hotel because of the excellent service that each staff member provided. Each staff member treats you like family, and both of us liked the fact that it was a very cosy environment rather than the sterile environment of big hotels. Our room was a standard room, and it was very clean. The front desk person will give you... more
Attractive hotel
Attractive smaller hotel. Beautifully decorated. Right behind the Blue Mosque, only a few minutes walk to Sultanahmet, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar. Nice views of water and, from the rooftop terrace, of the Blue Mosque. Our room was a "corner suite" and quite spacious. Breakfast is on the rooftop terrace. I was unfortunately sick the entire stay, but the hotel was very accommodating in calling a doctor and fetching a prescription (after business hours). Highly recommended.
Excellent, simply excellent.
Me and the wife stayed in the corner suite, our friends in the Sultan Suite. Top notch. The owner is entirely honourable and the hotel is great. How do I know this? Well not only did I stay there, but a few weeks later I made the terrible mistake of staying somewhere 'cheaper' for a couple of nights. BIG mistake, a huge error. I have stayed in a 45Euro-a-night hole. Don't make the same mistake, the Dersaadet was so much worth the extra. I would not hesitate in staying here again.
TREATED LIKE FAMILY
After over 40 years of traveling to Europe, Mexico, and Canada from the U.S., I stayed in a hotel that treated my family like their own. My daughter was celebrating her 32nd birthday in Istanbul, and after reading many reviews, decided on the Dersaadet . Unfortunately, they had a room only for the 2 days before my daughter's birthday, but on arrival, had prepared a very special table our the room with wine, fruit, and flowers, and a birthday message. This sensitivity by the director, Deniz Duyar was indicative of the philosophy and... more
One of the best small hotels I've stayed at anywhere.
I've spent time in 72 countries, and the Dersaadet is an exemplar of what a small hotel should be. The staff is attentive without being overbearing. Each of the rooms is individually decorated in period decor (try finding that ambiance in a generic tourist hotel), giving the entire place the feel of someone's home rather than a hotel. This feeling is only amplified by the hotel's location. In a mixed-use residential neighborhood, it's only a few minutes walk to the Arasta Bazaar, the Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia, or if you prefer, the real... more
Problems at the Dersaadet
We arrived late at night only to find that the shower cabinet door fell off, the toilet seat was completely loose (and fell off), when we opened one of the windows the screws fell off and the window threatened to fall off (no joke), our beds had not been made and there were no blankets to fit the size of the linen. In the morning, as we were having breakfast and waiting for the manager of the hotel, we found mold on the cheese. The manager apologized for all the problems in the room and the mold on the food but did not offer anything... more
Management response from Dersaadet

The reviews we have seen on the internet and on guest letters have always been a source of pleasure upon which we have congratulated each other at the hotel. The stay of Ms. and Mrs. D on the other hand has been a valuable case study. As exceptional as the experience – hence the comments of Ms. And Mrs. D... have been - it is such exceptions that forces a hotel to raise its own bar higher. We had two staff meetings one during and one after the stay of Ms. and Mrs. D. , both addressing what to do to prevent such occurances and how much of the compensation requests could be met. Considering that most of the five star reviews on the site have actually been written after the stay of Ms. and Mrs. D, we probably owe thanks to their feedback. P.s. The guests have been refered to as "Ms. and Mrs. D..." to express recognition while still protecting guests' anonymity. No disrespect intended.

very special Dersaadet hotel
My husband and I stayed at the Dersaadet Hotel Istanbul during May this year (2005). The cleanliness of the hotel, interior decorating, friendly and helpful staff, ample breakfast, proximity to major attractions - what more do you want? I want Denis to thank the staff on our behalf - we had a wonderful stay. It is obvious that the owners and staff must be very proud of this unique hotel.Regards, Johan and Alba Moolman, Cape Town, South Africa
Fantastic, authentic Hotel
If you are looking for somewhere authentic to stay whilst in Istanbul, then look no further than the Dersaadet. The excellent service started even before we arrived with very helpful emails. It's location could not be more perfect, situated by the blue Mosque, with stunning views of the old city and the sea. Most places are within walking distance. The staff are so friendly and very helpful. Top tip would be to book a room on the third floor (only 16 rooms), as you get the most beautiful view of the sea and surrounding city. The rooms... more
Quiet, quaint and quailty!
Nestled in the myriad of alleys which sit in the shadow of the Blue Mosque, the Dersaadet offers a quiet, qaint and quality experience in old Istanbul. It boasts traditional Ottoman style both inside and out; from the wooden exterior to the individual antique furniture pieces in each of the 17 rooms. Although in a back street it is only five minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and Hippodrome area and 10 minutes from the seafood village. Service is friendly from the waiter at breakfast to the most helpful receptionists and Deniz, who runs... more
