Look No Further! Lizo Is The Best.
from Luke-Clare
LOOK NO FURTHER. LIZO IS THE BEST. Not only is Lizo a beautiful, clean and comfortable place to stay but the hospitality is Second to None! Ali and Sarah are the Owners and they make you feel like family from day 1. The Food is the best in Kalkan. Lizo has Mezze, Fish and Barbeque nights and not only are they great Value for Money but they are absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere in Lizo on an evening is just what you need on holiday. The pool is also great to chill out by during the day. We met many people who always go back to Lizo. Some go a couple of times a year. We can see why. We will definitely go back. Thanks Lizo for an amazing holiday. See you next year. Luke & Clare xxx
Great hospitality

We spent 2 weeks at this very friendly, small hotel in the lovely resort of Kalkan. The most enjoyable aspect for us was the intimate atmosphere created by this lovely Turkish family (plus Sarah). Guests readily chatted together over breakfast where tables were pushed together and where we could admire the views over Kalkan. In the evening, the tables were laid out separately, with the lights being dimmed and with good music being played. Of course, the food on offer was also important and we are pleased to report that it was delicious. They have 3 themed evenings - fish, BBQ and mezze and we can recommend all three. The family certainly do all they can to make your holiday an enjoyable one and we have no hesitation in recommending the Lizo to you. Ian & Cherry Plant
Great Holiday!
from elaine_lucy
Our first holiday as a child free couple in nearly twenty years was approached with some trepidation! This was our fifth visit to Turkey but our first to Kalkan amd the Lizo. It was our most relaxed and friendly holiday in Turkey and by far the cheapest as we have travelled with Tapestry holidays before they went bust last year. We didn't really know what to expect of the Lizo - but I must say we were never disappointed. I think the phrase 'you get what you pay for' is almost not true here - it was more than value for money and in more ways than one. Not really sure if it was the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere of the Lizo, or the fact that Ali, Sarah, Mehment & Gulesen made us feel so at home, that my husband felt he could regress to being a 52 year old TEENAGER! It seems odd to say we had FUN! but we did. The other guests were equally relaxed and friendly which just added to the atmosphere and charm of the place. Either way we had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay at this lovely, small, simple, clean and entertaining hotel. The welcome was sincere, the food excellent - a simple yet delicious turkish breakfast - fresh and tasty special evenings [fish, barbecue but meze night particularly!]; and delicious light lunches with the choice of lovely homemade turkish dishes at any time. The rooftop restaurant area has stunning views . Walking up the stairs and being met by the views of Kalkan Bay and the mountain back drop makes it picture perfect. The hotel is situated about a very leisurely 15 minute walk from the towns pebbly beach. There are a number of beach clubs that are reached by water taxi - we tried three and preferred Mahal, not cheap once you are there but a little bit of heaven as the views of the bay from the terraces is fantastic. In an evening taxis are cheap if you are so stuffed you cannot walk after a meal in one of what seems like hundreds of resturants. In two weeks we only succumbed once! We combined eating in on 'special' nights [and nights when the relaxing got so intense we could not move from the hotel]- which were EXCELLENT - with trying the local restaurants which vary in quality and price - from simple turkish cuisine to food that would not be out of place in a top London restaurant. Our room [Antalya] had a stunning view of the sea and mountains which would have commanded a hefty surcharge in any other hotel - it was simply furnished, cleaned daily and although not huge seemed perfect for the two of us. Nothing was too much to ask of Ali or Sarah and we were truly sad to leave them and the hotel behind. We never go to the same place twice ... i think a rule may be broken for the Lizo!
Just Love it.

We have just returned from another two weeks at the Lizo Pension in Kalkan and again it was fabulous. This Turkish Family run hotel is just something else, the family Memet Guschen Ali & Sarah are so lovely nothing is a problem to them so helpful and friendly. The hotel is just so relaxing it's just like going home. We were greeted by Ali & Sarah at 4.30am on our first morning in Kalkan they took us to our rooms, which are more than adequate for a comfortable stay in the hotel, very clean.Breakfast is a very relaxing affair no need to rush off after eating just relax on the rooftop terrace and soak up the beautiful view of Kalkan the breeze and the sunshine, what else could you want from a hotel. the view is to die for. I can never now imagine holidaying any where else. It has everything we could want. The added bonus of it not being the prefect accomodation for children is just the absolute icing on the cake. .
Don't go overboard...

We stayed at the Lizo for two hot weeks - and after the fairly painless coach journey and an overnight flight, we were very pleased to see our clean and basic room, with air conditioning that we purchased locally. The hotel is very basic, but perfectly adequate for our needs. We needed somewhere to sleep and wash, and to use the pool. Breakfast was tasty, and served in the terrace restaurant with a fantastic view over the whole of Kalkan. We met some wonderful people during our stay. Interestingly however, we found that views differed regarding the hotel's "friendly and welcoming atmosphere"... Despite excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, and first hand conversation with guests currently at the hotel, we found the reception to be less than welcoming. Although Ali and Sarah were never directly rude to us, we did feel that there was no personal service. Drinks were rarely served around the pool, which meant walking up two flights of stairs simply to get a drink. On the last day of a two week holiday, there was a knock on our door, and we were asked our surname.... Surely, after a two week stay, Ali and Sarah should at least know our names? We also found that people were treated very differently if they drank in the bar and eat in the restaurant of an evening... As I say, we were never treated with direct rudeness, but the overall tone was less than hospitibal. Perhaps this was also due to the fact that Sarah had her family staying during our holiday - which meant alot of focus wa placed with them... We would definitely return to Kalkan. It is a fantastic town with the friendly atmosphere that is talked about so much in reviews of the town. We will, however, find somewhere else to stay as the Lizo just wasn't all it was cracked up to be!
The only place to stay
from welsh2Bristol
There can be no doubt that Kalkan is the place to visit - and when you are there Hotel Lizo is the best place to stay. You will find the rooms clean and comfortable and the welcome and service second to none! Ali,Sarah, Gulsen and Mehmet are a hard act to follow as they join forces to ensure your every need is catered for. The views are fantastic, the food superb and the atmosphere more than merely friendly! This was our second visit(we are sure it was the second of many) The relaxing nature of our stay(s) has been enhanced by the fact that the hotel is not suitable for children! We would unreservedly recommend Hotel Lizo.
fantastic holiday!
from sassy366
We stayed at this gorgeous hotel in September and had an outstanding holiday. We were transfered to this hotel after a dissatisfactory start at the Eagles Nest. We were so welcomed by Ali and Sarah and parents and immediately felt relaxed and starting to enjoy life turkish style. Alis mum is an outstanding cook and it is hard to go to town to try the other restaurants! She well deserves her place in the rough guide to turkey for her food. Rooms are simple, very clean and have great views over the kalkan bay. We would certainly recommend to stay here for all. especially couples for a lovely peaceful holiday as they recommend no children at this hotel ! We enjoyed the peace anyhow! We travelled with Jewel in the Crown, who were great but have booked direct this year - as they offer competitve rates.
Well done to the Lizo

My daughter and I stayed at the Lizo in August. A lovely little pension run by young couple Ali and Sarah. Rooms are small clean and adequate and the pool and roof terrace are a delight. Friendlier than some of the more upmarket places we have previously stayed at in Kalkan and child free too!! We felt proud to support one of the smaller local families as the resort seems to be growing all too fast we worry that the magic of the traditional Kalkan we love will be lost.
Lovely Lizo
from EliotandSam
Stayed 2 weeks in July 2006. We were met off the bus by Ali and Sarah and were made to feel very welcome from the outset. Our room in the new block was light and airy with a nice view, simply furnished, spotlessly clean and everything worked. Breakfast is on the rooftop terrace, which has the best view of Kalkan. It was hard to drag yourself away to yet another lazy day around the pool or at the beach or sightseeing - there are numerous things to do in and around Kalkan. The pool is adequate for the size of the hotel and very clean. Breakfast was typically turkish and alternatives were available for a few extra lire. Ali's mum Gulsen is a fantastic cook and we ate at the hotel restaurant on 4 occasions. It is very romantic in the evenings as you sit in the rooftop restaurant overlooking the twinkling lights of Kalkan. The food was always delicious. The walk into the centre of Kalkan takes about 10 mins and uphill on the way back. Kalkan has lots of lovely high quality restaurants, nice shops and the streets are a delight to explore. It was bliss to sit drinking mint lemonade with a lovely view of the small pebble beach, the harbour, and the sea stretching for miles in front of you. The Turkish people there are friendly and polite and everyone seems to speak excellent English. We had a lovely holiday in the Lizo hotel. There were only a small number of guests at the time we were there and we felt as though we were in our own private villa. The family couldn't do enough for us and our stay was made all the better for the friendliness of Ali, Sarah and the rest of the family. If you are staying as a single person, you will feel at home and safe straightaway. We certainly intend to return.
A Great Holiday at The Lizo Pension ( Hotel ) Kalkan Turkey
from Dundee2
2005 was our 2nd visit to the Lizo Pension in Kalkan (---) and hopefully we will return next year. This part of Turkey has everything from antiquities, roman ruins, beautiful coast line, amazing views and wonderful food. After the four hour plus flight and 2 hour plus coach trip (the only downside of the holiday), it was really lovely to be met so hospitably by Ali, Sarah, Mehmet and Gulsen???it was like coming home. We spent some time catching up whilst sitting on the delightful roof terrace, with a view to die for. We then went down town, which is a walk of about 10/15 minutes downhill which is not in any way arduous; we are both in our late ?50?s? ??? it?s a pleasant walk and after all - exercise is good for you. The first week we always walked back with no effort, when it was hotter in the second week, occasionally we took a taxi which are not expensive. There are a number of hotels near the Lizo so it is not in any way remote. Hotel facilites. There is a small plunge pool, which is cleaned every night and on returning from a trip or from town it is so pleasant to go for a dip and then sit and chat to other guests or just read a book and chill out. Our room was in the new block and was airy and spacious with a double bed, bed side table, dressing table, wardrobe and a lovely shower en suite. We had the most amazing view over the harbour which could be seen from the ?loo?, which became a bit of a joke! The room we had last year in the old part of the hotel also had the sea view but was a little smaller. The rooms are functional and adequate but we would advise requesting the air conditioning, for which there is a charge and is a definite bonus. The rooms are cleaned every day and fresh linen every couple of days. The food in the Lizo we found to be absolutely superb and without trying to sound bumptious we?ve been around a bit. I pride myself in being a gourmet and have had cookery training ??. I can hear myself sounding patronising which I don?t want to be but I found Gulsen to be naturally an incredible cook in her local cuisine. I just loved her food, it is wonderful. So if you are a ?foody? like me you will love the Lizo Roof Restaurant. There are themed evenings e.g. Barbecue, Fish Night and Prawn Night and the prawns are amazing. Am I going on too much? ??. However, if you feel as we did that you ought to savour the delights of other Kalkan restaurants ?.. again you will not be disappointed. There are so many restaurants to choose from and most are extremely good. We did unfortunately find one the ?Gironda? that were perhaps trying to be too ambitious. Last year we had a wonderful evening during their opening week and were hoping that we would repeat the experience but it was not to be. It was very disappointing, we spoke to the owner but were left with the distinct feeling that we were ?one couple? in many tourists that they cater for and so, ?tough? !!! A shame because we will never go there again???? especially when there is so much competition out there. But hey, try it ?. you may be lucky. There is a small pebble public beach which is easy to get to and cheap to hire loungers and parasols. The pretty Kaputas Beach and the famous 18 Kilometre Patara Beach are both just a bus ride away. If you want to spend a little more there are the Beach Clubs. You can take the very pleasant free ferry trip over to the Mahal Beach which we found to be both relaxing and stimulating ? the sunbathing and the swimming is wonderful. The same applies to the Kalamar Beach Club which you can get to by taxi which the Club will then pay for. I?ve probably gone on a bit and especially as we would rather you didn?t all go because we?re trying to keep it a secret but we will be returning to the Lizo Pension in Kalkan. This part of Turkey has everything from antiquities, roman ruins, beautiful coast line, amazing views and wonderful food. If you feel as we did that you ought to savour the delights of other Kalkan restaurants other than the Lizo ?.. you will not be disappointed. You can take the very pleasant free ferry over to the Mahal Beach which we found to be both relaxing and stimulating ? the swimming is wonderful. The same applies to the Kalamar Beach Club which you can get to by taxi which the Club will then pay for and the return fare ! We would highly recommend visits to the Saklikent Gorge, the ruined city of Myra and the sunken city of Kekova. Also the markets of Fethiye and Kalkan are interesting places to get a bargain.

Had a great stay at this family run hotel.A traditional turkish family run hotel with the best views in Kalkan. The family work so very very hard to make your stay as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. Rooms are basic but everything you need. Food is divine and just so tasty. A fabulous holiday. We have booked to return for 2010.
