A Fantastic Week
from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a fantastic week at the Belair Hotel. The food was good, the weather was great and the entertainment was good. We would like to Thank Nino, Kaka and Kimo for a fantastic time also the staff on the beach for making us very welcome. My son Adam and my daughter Annabel said it was a holiday to remember.
adequate but nothing special

The hotel Bel-Air is adequate for a week's stay, but nothing more. it is close to a very loud disco - something not mentioned in any of the brochures. The music goes on until 0500. The staff are friendly and the holtel is generally clean , although the toilets by the pool leave a lot to be desired! The pool itself was only cleaned once during the week we were there. Food is adequate. Overall a pretty average hotel - we would not go back there. There are better value hotels.

We have returned from a very STRESSFUL holiday in Tunisia. We arrived after a night flight feeling exhausted and by day two realised we ahd made a BIG mistake! If you want peace and quiet and a stress free holiday the bel air is not for you. The nearby(very!) in the hotel!! disco keeps you awake every night until 4am!. I went on this holiday with my husband and three children. The entertainment staff were brilliant and the hotel kept very clean. The food was fine but if you want to be able to go to sleep at night FORGET IT. By day three i was so sleep deprived i felt so grumpy which is not how you want to feel on holiday. Our rep was great and very sympathetic and arrange for us to be transfered to hotel Saphir for our second week which we had to pay for. Thank god for hotel saphir- it completely changed my opinion of Tunisia- We could relax and more importantly sleep at night! We went on camel rides and a pirate ship which were fab. We still however popped back to hotel bel air to say goodbye to the superb entertainment staff and tip them. We met several families at hotel bel air who had moved rooms three times and still could not get away from the noise! If you are young and love night life this hotel is for you but i would strongly advise against taking children there.
Best Holiday ever, can't wait till next year

We have just returned from a fortnight at the Hotel Bel Air and we are homesick for it. This was our first trip to Tunisia and we loved it so much we have already booked to go back next year. We have booked back into the Hotel Bel Air. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are cleaned every day, the towels changed every day and the sheets approx every 3rd day. Your bed was always made beautifully, with little flowers and your own towels folded into a lovely swan. My daughters cuddly cat had a flower placed in its collar. All the cleaning staff are very pleasant and very honest and trustworthy. Every room has air-conditioning included in your price. The half board food was totally acceptable. We must admit that the breakfasts were a bit repetative, (and the toaster took forever!!) but it is so cheap to buy the odd breakfast elsewhere that we did not consider this a problem. The evening meals varied every night of our fortnight stay, we expected to be eating the same food after the first week, but it did not repeat itself. There was always at least 3-4 meat choices, a pasta dish, fish and a vegeterian option, usually with a choice of boiled potatoes, mash, chips or rice. My 5 year old had no problems with any of the food and we were all well catered for each night. The location was spot on. Just a stones throw from the beach and the exceptionally cheap water sports. A short walk to a few local shops, restaurants and nightclubs. A taxi, costing no more than £2.00, will get you to just about anywhere else you want to be. The medinas and markets were great fun and we got loads of bargains. Don't be fooled into believing that you cannot leave the resort or go anywhere, this is nonsense. We ventured out almost every day. The two females of our party often went a walk at night with no problems or hassels. We met a family, who on the day before their last, told us that they had not left the hotel grounds for the entire 2 weeks as they were too scared!! Madness. People like this give Tunisia a bad name. The hotel staff were pleasant and very accommodating, we had a slight problem with our room on the first day and they had us re-allocated within 10 minutes, infact they gave me a choice of keys and let me choose my own room. The hotel waiters were so nice. Nothing was ever too much trouble. They are constantly walking round the sunbed area and you do not need to even move to get a drink. They took our beers right down to the poolside for us! They do not assume that the change is a tip and always give you it back. They all took a huge liking to my 5 year old daughter and were so nice to her. She was given an ice cream on more than one occasion as a gift from them! There are some guys in the hotel foyer selling priate ship trips, camel rides, jet skiing etc. They ask you on your first day, if you give them a clear no, they leave you alone. On speaking with our Tour Rep, she then recommended that we book with them as they were cheaper than her trips and just as well organised. So we did and they quite happily gave us free child places (which the rep could not) when we were cheeky enough to ask. The poolside is well maintained. You need to get up early to get your sunbed (thanks to our friends who did this every day for us!), but once claimed it is yours for the day and Sa'id the Lifeguard will make sure of this. He is also amazingly nice and constantly up to mischief!!! The Entertainment Team, Moez, Nino, Zico, KaKa, Kimo and Ghazza, are a group of guys employed by the Hotel to entertain you. They work very long hours, (9am to midnight, 7 days a week) for very little or no wage, and the smiles do not leave their faces all day. They will entertain you by the pool, but, if you ask them to leave you alone they most certainly will. They have an entertainment programme laid on for every night. Again, we expected the 2nd week to be a repeat of the 1st, but it was not. Evening entertainment starts every night with a kids minidisco, then the fantastic Nino headlines a game of bingo for you every night. It may appear to drag a bit, but bare in mind that this guy is reading the bingo numbers in at least 3 languages every night. (He speaks 8 languages fluently and all the Entertainment crew speak at least 3 languages) He tries very hard and he makes it very funny. The show after bingo varied from Snake Charmers, to Belly Dancers to the Transvestite Cabaret Nite and these are then followed by a conga line which leads onto a disco until midnight. Children are welcomed from the onset of the minidisco until the very last minute, they are never made to feel like "their part" is finished. The entertainment team are fantastic with your children. The Tunisian people as a whole absolutely adore children, but these entertainers make your child feel like they are the only child on holiday and that they personally will play with them for the entire fortnight, and they don't disappoint. Our absolute favourites were Zico and Nino. My shy little 5 year old girl totally came out of herself by the 3rd day. They had her up doing minidisco, on stage helping with ballots, chased her around the hotel, played with her in the pool. She actually had a slight accident on the last day wherein she managed to bite her tongue and produced quite a bit of blood, every single entertainer came to us to help calm her down and cheer her up and you could tell that they were genuinely concerned about her. Our bus was an hour late collecting us to go to the airport and Zico and Nino stayed with us, during their own dinner break, and "entertained" us, kept our little girl laughing and had us laughing as the bus pulled out of the hotel. I have never met people like them. One of the adults in our party was unfortunate enough to end up in hospital (details of which I am sure she will be leaving in her own review!). As soon as Nino from the entertainment team heard about this he was in a taxi to the hosptial to visit her. And her continued to visit her during her stay. Suffice to say her hospital stay was a short one, but could have dragged if Nino had not got involved and helped to get her discharged. The Hospital was something from the space age and quite frankly puts our NHS hospitals to shame. In our opinion this was above and beyond the call of a normal hotel worker and we were very touched. (The hospital stint did not put her off, she has also re-booked for next year back to the Bel Air) I have read the mixed reviews on this site and can only presume that some of the other people went with exceptionally high expectations and were therefore disappointed. We found the hotel to be perfect for us as a family and our friends as a young couple. (PS, if the germans annoy you on Spanish Holidays, be warned the French were our biggest annoyance on this Tunisian holiday, arrogant and rude would be an understatement) CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR......

I may only be 16, and you're prbably thinking I would enjoy the loud music every night, but I didn't. On the first night we were on the side of the hotel where the bars were, but we asked to be moved in the morning, and they did it straight away. They even moved a bed into another room on the pool side for me. I have to agree, the food wasnt spectacular, but it wasnt that bad. It's edible at least. And theres always the other bars. The sunday dinner which my family had at las palmas was especially nice. I met some lovely people, and my parents also talked to several other couples. The entertainment was rather good, though a few shows were repeated each week for the quests who were only staying one week. The entertainment team were spectacular for getting you to join in. Especially Zico and Kaka, although they never managed to drag me up to dance! This resort is fantastic for families, but make sure you get a room with a pool view if you have children, if you want a decent nights sleep. And as for someone mentioning the music going on til 12, thats not that late concidering how long it goes on til in some of the surrounding hotels! The people in the old medina and the market aren't that much of a hassle if you just say no, but avoid the carpet shops at all costs, as some people get trapped in them for hours! I hope this is of help to people!
