Avoid if possible
Stayed at the Historia for 3 nights in October, booked the room through the hotel's website and paid 60 euros a night (internet included). For a reason not explained to me I was given a different room to that which I'd booked (I think they'd overbooked the hotel). It was small, poky, in the basement and generally quite horrible. I had deliberately booked a room with cable TV as I was alone and wanted some entertainment in the evening. There was no cable TV. I was awoken in the middle of the night by a person knocking on the door... more
disappointed
we arrived after a long journey 2 young boys to be told that our room was in the hotel next door ,the hotel romatica, belive me there was nothing romantic about this hotel with grubby lace draped over the beds! The Historia had received our booking in April and the booking had been confirmed ,so be told that there was no family room available was very disappointing. To top it all we had to walk to the Historia for breakfast in the morning, Be prepared to be put into a substandard room in a different hotel if you book to stay here!
Great Experience at Historia
My friend and I had a girls' trip to Turkey and sandwiched our travels with stays at the Historia. Upon arriving, we received a free upgrade to a room with a view. The staff was friendly, helpful, and I think slightly amused by us, as it seems that they don't get too many young single American women there. When we returned at the end of our travels, they appeared happy to have us back. On our last night there, while trying our new skills on the house backgammon board, one of the staff very kindly made us delicious mochas on the house!<br... more
Great friendly hotel in good location
Stayed for five nights from 1 August 2007. Great hotel. Five minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, St Sophia etc. Dozens of resturants, bars etc nearby offering local food, chinese etc. I was given a free room upgrade (to one with a sea view) on arrival. Room clean & well maintained. Hotel is near a railway line but it is electric & quite quiet as a result. Air Con a bit noisy but effective & works fast (with handy remote control) . TV had 60+ channels with many in English. Breakfast in a pretty garden was varied & fresh. Staff very helpful &... more
Best location in Sultanahmet
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Historia Hotel; a cute Ottoman house converted into a hotel. The rooms are small (because it is an old historic house) but comfortable and the bathrooms very clean. Some of the rooms have balconies with view on the Sea of Marmara. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in a great area; close to everything; Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace... They also have a good breakfast buffet and sitting outside on the patio. Next time I go to Istanbul, I will definitely go back to this... more
Not Impressive
I arrived at the hotel with my girlfriend, booking in wasn't easy, the receptionist (also the Manager) didn't speak good english and i would hqave struggled but for my girlfriend being Turkish. We were given the key to our room and directed from reception. No guide was supplied. The room was dark but had a balcony that overlooked the Bosporus, great views :~) The room was not as clean as it should have been and the bed linen smelt stale. The bathroom was fine and looked clean. The hotel is not best situated for local amenities and... more
What a kindness of the people in Historia!
At first, we could really enjoy such a nice view as several ships on so beautiful and blue see with white clouds in the terrace of the room in the fifth floor. Secodly, the location is perfect. Only in a few minutes walk, we could see the most famous things of Istanbul, Blue mosque & St sophia. Thirdly, our kids are 8 and 11 years old and all of us enjoyed nice breakfast provided with fresh bread, fruits, and many kinds of delicious things. Of course, the room was clean and the staffs were helpful, gracious & welcoming. In... more
Excellent, felt like home
Our review of Hotel Historia is stellar in all cases. Certainly the best value that we have seen in this price range, the Historia rates as one of the best in our round the world tour. The staff was extremely accomodating as led by Onur the owner. We (wife and I) have voted the breakfast as the "Best in Turkey". Perfectly located, you are within a pleasant walk from all the sites and good restaurants while away from the city noise. Hint: the rooms in the front don`t get the train rumble. Tell Onur that Rick & Deb said Hello!
Great Central Hotel
We were delighted with our choice of the Historia Hotel in Istanbul. The hotel is cosy, the rooms are clean & the staff were helpful, gracious & welcoming. The location is fantastic- only a few minutes walk to the main street, St Sophia & Blue Mosque. We left feeling that we could not have asked for anything more in our choice of hotel & that the Historia will certianly be our reccomendation to anyone looking for a hotel in Istanbul.
Decent budget hotel.
Hotel is in an old Ottoman building in the old part of the city. First impressions not so good, I had booked 3 nights but they did not have a room for 3 nights. First night in what was obviously a spare bedroom which had no TV or aircon; however it was OK as I was only going to shower and sleep in the room on the first night. For the next 2 nights they gave me a good room with a balcony that had a river view (not all rooms in the old city hotels have a balcony so that was a bonus). The minibar prices are cheap by British standards.... more
