Just returned from Cala d'or Gardens...

Just returned from Cala d'or Gardens Hotel, Cala Egos, Majorca (7 nights 8/15th sept ).
lts not an all brits hotel which didn't affect us at all, and that the food isn't hot, its served and kept warmish but there's lots to choose from. At breakfast; cold meats, breads, pastries, cereals and fruit and also several hot alternatives (boiled eggs, bacon sausages, beans, scrambled eggs, fried eggs), just be aware like you would when eating out at home. I noticed that a lot of what was on the lunch buffet returned sometimes disguised on the dinner buffet re-warmed so common sense tells you what to do (I just didn't eat it). But there's also bread and salads and cold dishes and meats served at both lunch time and dinner time so there must be something for everyone, and always several desserts and fresh fruits, and of course juices, pop and wine beer and spirits all day too.
The snack bar was burgers, hot dogs and chips or wedges everyday and there all day we never had to go there as we ate breakfast and lunch and found ourselves eating out evenings for 4/7 of our nights there but that was our choice, there's a few bars offering entertainment too and across them all you can find something for almost each night, there's some nice places to eat "the beatriz" being really good food cooked fresh upon ordering and lots to choose from and also another bar called "big nays"where breakfast was excellent! which we had on our last day as brunch.
We cannot fault the hotels cleanliness, our room was air conditioned, cleaned everyday with clean sheets and towels everyday too. The pool was great much larger than some we saw when touring around Cala D'or. Theres plenty of sun loungers but like anywhere you got the hot spots and they are taken early by unaccompanied beach towels. I think that's the norm for abroad though wherever you go. Unlike us brits it seems foreigners don't like to queue its get in get what you want and get out when it comes to getting food from the buffet.
The small beach accessed via the hotel behind Cala d'or gardens is a cove and very nice but small, and my partner found snorkelling with a bottle filled with bread and water for the fish an amazing experience! Although I wasn't too impressed by the jelly fish sting I got when watching him snorkel via a lilo, so be aware september is the season for the jelly fish (I found that out after I was stung!).
We also took a walk through the shops and onto the marina where once again throw in some bread and watch what the fish do its amazing! And the boats are quite something there too. We went to the caves de drach in Porto Christo a must if you like natural wonders and the concert on the lakes there was so pretty, the package excursion was a bit poor going to a pearl factory and 10 mins in Porto Christo by coach but if you have a hire car its easy to get to and much cheaper.
We never saw any night clubs or no loutish behaviour in Cala Egos and the sparkles bar which had karaoke and some entertainers on a couple of nights also closed the doors at 1 and became a disco till 4 but there was no noise in the hotel after 11 or around the direct area of the hotel, the hotel seemed to cater for the younger children with entertainment that was there, as schools back and there were very few older children around.
The weather was hot, the area clean and tidy and hotel clean and safe, overall I cannot think of wanting much more, we were all inclusive but I called it a base to sleep wash and eat there if we wanted to.
Overall we had a great week, long hot days, and food and drink at night and found something to entertain us.
I hope my long but honest review helps if you have booked or are going to book this hotel and have fun whenever you go.

After reading other comments before...

Sep 2007, Mrs Andrea Hill

After reading other comments before we left I was dreading our family holiday!
The hotel itself on arrival seemed okay but the night reception man was very abrupt not very helpful and to be honest quite rude.
On the evening of our departure we sat in reception, 4 adults and 5 children, waiting for our coach which was due at 00.10 and the night reception man turned out the lights and tried to make us wait out the front!!
The rooms were cleaned daily but were sparse, the pool clean and well maintained. The bar was always full and the barmen helpful and polite although it did close at 11pm every night.
The food was not great but there was always something you could eat.
Rather mortified when a rat (very big) ran across the patio area in front of the dining room we did report this but no-one seemed too bothered, subsequent rats were seen.
Overall not a great place to stay and certainly not value for money, I would not go there again in fact the hotel would have to pay me to stay there!

Just had 2 weeks at this hotel with my partner and 4 children aged 12,14 and 2 at 16.We booked allocation on arrival (never done this beforehand very impressed The pools were warm and quite big (one over looking the other).
We all really enjoyed it, breakfast, lunch, and evening meal were lovely. Hot snacks available from 10am to 11pm in the bar.
Drinks free up to 11pm (as many as you want). Shops. bars and restaurants 5 minutes walk away.
The main centre of Cala dor is about 2 miles away, there’s a lovely marina about 1 mile away with plenty of bars(there is a train every hour outside the hotel to take you to both these), or have a round trip which takes 1 hour for 3 Euros.
The beaches are small (but very nice) 1 is 2 minutes away- the other is 10 minutes walk.

Read some of the previous reports...

Dec 2006, Ms H Holiday Lover

Read some of the previous reports before we went which were quite worrying. But no need to worry.
The hotel was very Friendly. Accommodation was clean but basic. Food was excellent with plenty of choices each day.
Difficult to get a sunbed by the pool because there were quite a lot of Germans staying there.
We often went to one of the local beaches instead, small strips of sand where you had to pay for the sunbed but clean and well looked after. Cala D'Or itself was lovely, clean and plenty to do in the evening.
All in all a good holiday especially for the price we paid with lowcostbeds, who also arranged our flights.

Just returned from a week all...

Sep 2006, Ms H Rean

Just returned from a week all inclusive with my boyfriend. Made the mistake of reading other reviews after booking holiday, which worried me tremendously!
Need not have worried at all. Holiday was great. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful. Entertainment was not Broadway standard but was actually quite amusing (even the kids stuff was entertaining). Food was excellent, lots of choices for each meal, drinks were good too. Draught local wine and lager and soft drinks available as self service all day.
Spirits available from bar service. All in all well priced holiday which certainly was the top end of a 3* hotel. Only disappointment was that it advertised a squash court (other half plays - so took gear) and its not there any more.
Local bars and restaurants good value for money too. Would recommend resort for couples or families.
