" Cold and dirty "

The first room we stayed in was so cold, we actually tried, to sleep fully clothed and in our woolly hats... It had 3 large windows floor to ceiling, even the draft excluders couldn't stop the cold air and water coming in. There was no heating in the toilet, and seat wouldn,t stay up so rested on you back (very unpleasant). It all got too much so we moved rooms. The second room was a third of the size, so naturally warmer. We were greatful for that! On closer inspection (not that much closer) there were tissues on the floor (from previous guests), which we kicked under the bed. (Probably still there, room 209). Also there was a dirty sponge left in the shower! The shower had mould all around the bottom (the silicone was green and black). The water dripping from the window had created blck mould in the corners of the window. We mentioned this to the hotel, so the cleaner came and poured bleach onto the silicone. Obviously this wasn't going to work, just make the room smell of bleach. We left! we booked ourselves into the Hotel Grand Paradiso, which was fantastic!

Advice: Yes, the resort was good

Activities: There is a small hut on the long red run down towards the cable cars it half way down not on the map

Good for: Ski

" our hotel was execeptional. basic,... "

our hotel was execeptional. basic, clean and warm, very warm, the staff were fantastic, the food was of a class of its own, great time had by all, fully recommened. the resort itself was great for first timers or intermediates, it offered a great ski school that run really well and kept all our party happy, ranging in age from 4 to 33. the adults that did not need ski school had a great time experiencing the glacier side of the resort, it was a good black run. the resort would be dissappointing for people who wish to take it to the edge as it appeared to me to be very safe and family friendly. but that is what what we wanted and what we got. Verona airport however was not a dream, a nightmare to be exact, 2 hour check in, we nearly missed our plane. Crystal also failed to send our tickets for 11 people unitl 2 days before we left and charged us high season price for the special season being the last week in March/April. We will not use them again.

" I highly recommend the Hotel... "

I highly recommend the Hotel Dolomiti. The food and service was fantastic. Small and basic rooms but suited our needs. A heated equipment storage room in the basement ensured that the lack of a lift was not a problem. The hotel manager Stefano could not have made our stay more welcoming. After my partner had an accident and was admitted to hospital over an hour away, Stefano took care of all my needs. He contacted the hospital regularly, arranged my transport to the hospital and ensured we ate well when my partner and I returned from the hospital at 11pm at night (even giving us a complimentary bottle of wine to cheer us up!). Stefano gave me his mobile telephone number to call him anytime day or night if we needed anything. The catering was superb with several main courses cooked to perfection. The staff went out of their way to ensure everyone's stay was most enjoyable. Great location for the lifts and centre of town with beautiful views of the glacier and slopes. We will certainly go to Passo Tonale again and there's no question which hotel we shall stay in!

" We had a room on the 1st floor which... "

We had a room on the 1st floor which was great as there are no lifts. The room was small but it was clean and it suited our needs, the shower was clean and modern with 2 large bath sheets, 2 smaller towels and 2 hand towels, and a bath mat, these were fresh every day, constant hot water, with a powerful shower although the cubicle was fairly small. the room at times could be cold, need to turn the radiators up.
The food was good, breakfast a good choice of food, juice was watery, and had to ask on several mornings for tea/coffee. A 4 course evening meal, you had 3 choices of one starter and a main, the vegatable starter was very repetative, the next starter was a choice of pastas or soup, main meal was usually meat (at the begining of the week it was a choice of 3 different meats, towards the end it was a choice of pork or pork or toasted sandwhich??) the dessert was the same throughout the week of about 4/5 different cakes or icecream. Be careful we ended up with cherry cake 3 times as they pronounced or worded it differently. They will if you ask do something different but its usually chips or omellette. The overall service of the evening meal was very good but the food never seemed to be very hot. By the end of the week I found the food to be too repetative.
The dining room was well laid and clean as was the communal areas,
The ski room was small with racks for skis but no lockers, and the exit door was usually open, the outside slope to the ski room was very steep and very icy.
There are no hair dryers and the tv only showed an english news channel.
Overall the hotel was very clean, the staff were friendly and the food was not bad, it was very close to the slopes, it is more on the edge and not in the heart of the resort which is great for peace at night, only a 5 minute walk into the main areas. I would stay again if i decided to return, it was good value for the money.

" Stayed at the Dolomiti with 2... "

Stayed at the Dolomiti with 2 children aged 9 and 4. Hotel was excelent in a great location, food was lovely and they tried to provide what the children wanted to eat. Staff in the Hotel were friendly and welcoming. Rooms are quite outdated but warm and comfortable with excelent hot showers (just what you need at the end of a long day skiing).

One downside - beware of the ski school if taking children. We booked 6 day ski school for the children with Thomson. On day 2 the ski school wanted another 70 Euros as there were not enough children in the very small age group. Raised this Thomson but they did nothing and just told us to pay it and couldn't guarantee that we wouldn't be charged more if the group split again, we felt like an open cheque book !!. This put a real dampner on our holiday and upset the kids in the first few days.

Overall a good holiday, but, be prepared to put your hands deep in your pockets if pre-booking the ski school (and you must pay cash, no cards accepted) !!

" Stayed here for a Week in January.... "

Stayed here for a Week in January. The hotel was excellent, it was not sold as a Luxury Hotel, but was more than adequate, rooms were clean and spacious with balconies and a great view of the mountains. The food was superb, always a good choice and the staff were friendly and helpful. The best thing is the proximity to the slopes, you were 50 Yds from the ski lifts so extremely convenient

" A party of us stayed at the Dolomiti... "

A party of us stayed at the Dolomiti hotel in February.

The skiing and location is excellent, you just step across the road and you are on the slopes - great when you have kids.

Plenty of runs for the beginner and intermediate skier.

The staff at the Dolomiti could not have been friendlier, service was excellent and the food was very good.

Good choice of menu and typical Italian food - pasta, lovely salads and some unusual but very nice meat dishes and some very nice deserts to choose from - beware though you could go home 2 sizes bigger than when you came!

Also, we found that if the children didn't fancy anything on the menu they will make a basic pasta/tomato dish for them.

Staff were great with the children and the lounge area has plenty of room for them to play board games in the evening.

The rooms were basic, quite small but nice and warm - sometimes a bit too warm but since you spend very little time there we did not find this a problem at all.

I have to say, I agree with previous reviewer who stayed in February, I really don't know how anyone can give it a bad review - if you want luxury then you need to dig deeper in the pockets for your skiing holiday!

We are already looking to book this same hotel next year, unfortunately the same weeks are fully booked already so are having to go later - suppose that says it all.

" My family and I have just come back... "

My family and I have just come back from our second ski holiday to Passo Tonale, staying again at the hotel Dolomiti.

I have to fly in the face of previous reviews and rate this hotel highly (incidentally if you speak to the reps in resort, they too rate it!).

Yes, it is basic but it is clean and VERY friendly. The staff fuss with the children and because it is a safe place to allow our children a little bit of freedom to "explore".

I'd say that the measure of the satisfaction can be measured in terms of the fact that as soon as you return from your holiday and try to re-book ... it is fully booked for that week the following year!

A hotel itself is close to the centre of the resort and just across the road from the ski school meeting place (fantastic ski school) and a couple of chair lifts. We have a 6 and 8 year old and distances from equipment store, entertainment and ski school were fab!

We had a quad room which was small but very clean. You can use the games rooms of nearby hotels and swimming pools etc.... not that we did as we were too shattered after a day on the Piste.

A good breakfast buffet was served each morning and in the evening there was a plentiful salad buffet plus a choice of 3 starters and 3 main courses. To finish there was always a choice of ice cream and puddings.

The waiting on staff were VERY friendly and helpful, particularly with the kids.

There was no laid on entertainment, however this suited us fine as we just went to the bar for a drink after dinner and then to bed (exhausted after a full day on the Piste).

We would definitely recommend this hotel as very good value for money.

Oh yes the rooms were very warm (don't know what previous entries were on about).

We've booked to go back in 2008.

" We had a lovely stay in Passo Tonale,... "

We had a lovely stay in Passo Tonale, the hotel was clean, close to the slopes and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Our room was fine it had a lovely shower and the bed was very comfortable.

The food was superb, we had 4 courses every night, a lot of choice, the staff were always pleasant and helpful.

This hotel is in an ideal location for the slopes, right next to the beginner slopes and with easy access via the lifts to the more advanced slopes.

We will definitely be coming back next year.

" Friendly helpful staff, good location... "

Friendly helpful staff, good location right at foot of nursery slopes.

Basic accommodation, rooms could be cold at times, powerful hot shower, bathrooms slightly grotty and outdated.

Quality of rooms seemed to differentiate between each floor. No lift bit of a struggle to reach top floor by end of the week.

Food ok, 4 course meal! Beware Roast Beef! Its not what you expect, cooked very rare, thin slices of unknown meat, good soup and pasta course every night.

Overall Passo Tonale is a good location for the budget traveller, with wide variety of skiing, good ski school, but lacks character and nightlife.

" We had 2 triple rooms at the... "

We had 2 triple rooms at the Dolomiti, rooms basic, bathroom, very old fashioned, powerful hot shower, but the cubicle was dirty, moldy and leaked. The radiator turned its self off on our last night, I complained and reception said they would get it fixed, but in the morning it was still cold. Food was ok.

The position of the Dolomiti was brill. Passo Tonale is a very small resort. Oops, forgot to tell you about the towels, they were like table cloths and not like proper towels at all.

" Hotel basic, location good. Breakfast... "

Hotel basic, location good. Breakfast choice limited. Dinner okay 4 courses so you can find something you like.

Rooms more like 2*. Mildew on ceiling of shower needed a good clean and re-paint. Staff okay but needed telling 2 or 3 times if you wanted tea or coffee at breakfast.

Please note there is no lift in this hotel and if you on the 3rd or 4th floor after skiing you will notice the climb.

" Just back from a great weeks skiing,... "

Just back from a great weeks skiing, Hotel location is great- right in the middle of the resort, clean but very basic accommodation.

The Dolomiti has been recently refurbished or so the hotel information tells you. From what we have seen though it’s probably only had a lick of paint, the green and red bathroom was a trip back to the 1980's.

The food was poor so we ate out most of the time. Our bedroom ceiling leaked from the beam joist on a number of occasions, the worst at 3am drip-drip-drip!!! When we brought this up with the staff they seemed to be aware of the problem but could not help, we resorted to leaving towels down to soak up the water and reduce the noise of the constant dripping.

Small ski storage room in the basement with racking but no way of locking your ski's-board's or boots, has got a buzz entry door but found this to be left open most of the time.

Dolomiti is not a real 3 star hotel, but if you are getting a good deal and are prepared to take a chance then you may have a better experience than us- Good Luck...

" Clean and basic. Bathroom cold until... "

Clean and basic. Bathroom cold until we complained after two days when the heating was switched on from downstairs.

Actually four floors up from ski store, no lift. Food started off fairly good but deteriorated as week went on.

We were sat on the invisible table and were never offered our tea or coffee in the morning so our waiter was not given a tip. You take your life in your hands every morning when going up steep icy incline from ski store. House wine cheap and excellent.5 euros half a carafe.

Heating seems to be turned off early evening in dining room. Not very warm by the panoramic windows. Chambermaids very good. No hairdryers.

" Although we booked to stay in the... "

Although we booked to stay in the Hotel Paradiso, there was a problem with overbooking and we were moved to the Dolomiti.

Although it wasn’t what we were expecting (re: comfort and facilities) the location was fantastic, the staff in the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful and the food couldn’t have been better. We were in an attic room ( the only room left in the whole of Tonale according to Airtours!!) so space was very tight for 2 adults and a 14 year old.

There was also no lift but there was a heated room where boards, skis and boots could be left. If you are planning to ski/board for most of the day and don’t need Jacuzzi, pool or massage then this hotel is really great. Don’t expect all mod cons and luxury - just clean basics and restaurant quality food.
