For the budget travel you can't beat Metropolis
I planned my trip to Turkey very quickly as I was preparing to move abroad and it was a stop en route. Somehow I lucked out to find Metropolis online, and was so pleased when I arrived to find it as good as everyone said it was. The staff was incredibly helpful with my enormous amounts of luggage (for the move) and helped me with every little bit of planning for Istanbul and Cappadocia. It was absolutely one of the best travel experiences I have ever had, made that much better by the people i met (both guests and the owners) and I find... more
quite cheap and nice hostel
cheap and nice dorms, quite place close to the blue mosque, ayasofia and the sea. clean bathroom, clean beds, nice staff and breakfast included. price : 13/15 euros per night.
The chilled out hostel
Great little hostel in a superb location in sultanahmet. Its just behind the main road of bars and hostels, so you can get involved in the local nightlife while the hostel maintains a chilled out feel. The rooms themselves are fine with nice comfy big beds. The hostel also boasts an amazing roof top seating area which doubles as the bar at night and breakfast area in the morning. Although the views are great it is up 4 flights of steep stairs which could put some people off. The roof top is also the only communal area and consuming your own... more
Pretty good, nothing flash
Good location just down road from Blue Mosque. Hostel was reasonably clean and tidy, breakfast basic but fine. Staff were reasonably friendly only problem we had was we'd booked for 3 nights but got held up in Greece because of train strikes so emailed the manager the day before we were due to arrive at 12.05pm and asked to cancel our first night's booking and he said he would try to sell our beds for that night but because it was after 12noon (by literally 5 minutes!!!) then it was their policy that if they couldn't find anyone else to take... more
Great value for money
Staff fantastic! We dropped our bags off at 6 am and returned to book in at 11 to find our room ready for us early. Room was a little basic but it was what we expected. The roof top views are out of this world as you look one way and there is the see, and you turn around and there are the 2 most famous land marks in the city. Breakfast is simple but all ingredients fresh and tasty - good mix of fresh bread, cheese and jams. Bathroom was a little bit tricky as there is only one per floor and in the morning this meant a bit of a wait... more
The Wonders of Istanbul (practically) at your Doorstep!
Tucked away at the end of a quiet cul-de-dac in the strategically-located Sultanahmet (Old City) district, amidst a variety of hostels, small hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and shops....you'll find this hidden gem. Contained within it's well-renovated exterior facade are the typical offering of rooms from singles to dorms. Being that a twin-double room was unavailable at the time, the (courteous, accommodating & helpful) brothers who run the Metropolis substituted a triple for the same (Dbl. room) cost. Fortunately, this allowed... more
Fun and friendly Metropolis
Stayed at the Metropolis Hostel (booked on hostelworld.com before arriving) and wasn't expecting much - but I was wrong! Had a fantastic location, excellent views of the sea from the rooftop terrace and a very good atmosphere. The rooms were small - stayed in a private double room with shower, and wasn't much floor space left after our bags! But it was clean, had hot water and decent shower, so it wasn't too bad. What really makes this place great were the staff - very helpful, and friendly, and cannot speak highly enough of them.... more
Worst stay my whole trip
We needed a place to stay in Istanbul for 2 days, so we stayed at the Metropolis. The guy who booked us in was extremely rude and we almost didn't stay there (i wish we hadn't). They were very rude our entire stay there. The room was very nice on the top floor with one bed and a bathroom. It had airconditioning as well (which is what we were looking for). I asked the guy if they had wake up serivce and he said sure. They didn't wake us up the fiirst day so we overslept for an hour or so. We weren't mad and told the guy that he forgot... more
Management response from SezarIstanbul

Dear Utena, Firstly, thank you for your review of our hostel, but please allow me to make some corrections to it. We do accept that we did not wake you on your first morning at our hostel, and we deeply apologise for this. This unfortunate error was due to a mix up of messages in our office. On the second morning we were 10 minutes late in waking you for your shuttle service, due to us attending an ill guest in the hostel. You still had plenty of time to get ready for the shuttle bus regardless of the 10 minutes lost, and the shuttle bus never leaves without guests. I am surprised that you felt our staff were rude to you. Our staff always endeavour to be courteous and friendly to our guests, to ensure they have a very happy stay. Any unpleasantness you may have experienced from our staff may have been a reaction to your swearing and abusive language. I am very sorry for your unpleasant experience, and I hope you return to Istanbul in the future. Thank you.

Fantastic Hostel!
I stayed at this hostel twice while travelling through Turkey (once with a friend and once by myself) and it was excellent both times. The two brothers who run the hostel (Sezar and Murat), go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. They are happy to give you suggestions of activities around Istanbul and book tours for you (even to the point of accompanying you to the tour office!). They also helped other people plan their trips around Turkey. The hostel offered free breakfast each morning, free internet 24/7, a common... more
