Xbalamque Resort & Spa Hotel

I booked the hotel last minute and apparently these people have special low budget rooms for people who book through Hotwire. Broken shower drains, holes in the wall, paint splashed on the windows, beds like sleeping on plywood and absolutely no hot water for showering. This was the case in both rooms I booked. The next morning we were refused the continental breakfast because they "don't give them to Hotwire customers". How this place got a 3.5 star rating on Hotwire is a mystery. I think this hotel has had some upgrades since previous reviews. I did not see mold or smell any odors. The room and large shower were clean, TV and A/C worked just fine. The hotel is decorated with touches of Mayan art throughout. The pool was nice and got plenty of sun. Massage and spa treatments are offered on site. I found the staff pleasant and friendly. Located close to the downtown nightlife and easy access to the beach by bus. Perfect for low-maintence budget travelers.

I travel to Cancun regularly on business. A client in Cancun picked me up at the airport and took me straight to a live music bar called "los 4 elementos" (the four elements) located in a hotel in downtown Cancun. We bumped in this hotel by accident but we appreciated this recently renovated economy priced hotel in downtown cancun. My wife and I got a suite and we got a very warm service and great food. The suite was only $75! I highly recommend this hotel

We were forced to stay here because our flight out of Cancun was canceled and the airline had to find an overnight stay for all passengers. This was the worst place we ever experienced. The airline gave us phone cards to contact the people we needed to let know we were delayed. The problem was there were no phones for outside use, they were just for within the hotel. we stayed there one night (arrival). i would not recommend this hotel for the following reasons: 1. the linen stunk (the kind of stench that would prevent you from sleeping) and 2. staff didn't speak english. if you want to save money (as we did on our first night), sleep in a tent rather than staying at the xbalamque.

We booked our vacation for spring break only 1 day in advance and the only place that had openings was the Xbalamque. We were really nervous to be downtown because of the other reviews we had read and what family and friends had told us. WE ABSOLUTLEY LOVED IT. The hotel was very quiet and very clean. The staff was nice but mainly spoke Spanish. We came upon this property in need for a place to stay. It's better than sleeping on the street, but a strong sense of dread came over me as I ascended the stairs. Some rooms were wide open with significant damage/remodelling evident. The air quality was poor enough to warrant an immediate departure. This place is ok as a all male college dive, but no way would I entrust my family to this hotel.. There are far better choices within a few blocks-Caribe and Las Margaritas to name some.

Clean and tidy and VERY cheap. Fine if you don't mind the noise. There is a busy street closeby resulting in endless traffic noise and if that wasn't enough the cabaret in the bar starts around 9pm and does not finish until the wee small hours. And even THEN there is yelling and hooting till about 5am!

The Xbalamque is a nice little hotel downtown Cancun!! The price is inexpensive, but the service is excellent!! All the people were very helpful and spoke English. The hotel was clean and the food tastey, plus you are on the main street to all the restaurants, stores and shops. Cannot beat it for the price and experience...we would have paid more... and have and gotten less. The manager of the hotel, Juan Carlos, and the manager of the restaurant, Ismal (I think), were fantastic. Thanks for the great stay. David & Anna from Alaska
