This hotel is located on an 'island' in the lagoon at the northern end of Cancun. A smart, comfortable basic hotel with an excellent buffet breakfast, super clean 4'6" deep main swimming pool and a 1'3" deep children's pool.
The staff were polite, efficient and friendly. However there are no bar, lunch or dinner facilities. And although reception will order you a pizza or KFC for a late meal, there are no restaurants close by. It is close to the Golf Course, but a taxi ride into Cancun or a 5-10 minute walk to the main road to catch a frequent and cheap bus.
There were more Mexican business people staying there than tourists - I would compare it to an up market Travelodge or Premier Travel Inn.
I was under no illusion as to the type of hotel this was - Holiday Inn Express does exactly as it says on the tin.
