Royal Sunset Cancun Hotel

We were supposed to stay at the sister hotel Sunset Lagoon, but they were overbooked and upgraded us to the Royal Sunset. We had a great time at this hotel. It was located in the Hotel Zone so there were plenty of buses and taxis and it was also walking distance to the restaurants and shops. We had the all-inclusive option so in addition to the unlimited drinks and meals, we also had 3 free room service and a mini bar replenished daily with water, beer and soft drinks. I recently returned from a vacation in Cancun. I have been there for one week each year for the past six years with a friend who owns a timeshare. (not at Royal Sunset) I have always resisted the urge to invest in a timeshare, primarily for economic reasons. However, this time I ignored my better judgement and signed up for a timeshare at Royal Sunset. I left Cancun the next day and when I arrived home I REALLY READ THE CONTRACT. We've just returned from a week stay at the Royal Sunset (Jan 10-17) are quite pleased with our experience at this hotel. We booked 3 rooms all inclusive for our group of eight (4 adults, 4 children), and admittedly were a little leary of being spread out all over the hotel yet Javier of reception made sure our rooms were beside each other complete with spacious balconies over looking the lagoon with a few nights of spectacular sunsets. We are two women who work together that decided to go to Mexico for some fun. One of us had a time share in Florida that we swapped (through RCI) for the Royal Sunset Hotel. We just got back from spending a week at the Royal Sunset Hotel. We had a great time there! We felt the staff was friendly and accommodating. We also really loved the sister hotel called the Sunset Lagoon and actually spent quite a bit of time there. Take the free shuttle that runs all day back and forth from either location. while the hotel is nice, the manner in which they conduct their business is suspect. i rec'd a memo advising me that my payment was late and my membership was cancelled. the letter was dated 11-26-02, the envelope was postmarked 1-9-03 and my check was received in december and cleared my bank on 1-3-03. in essense, they wrote the letter cancelling my membership 5 weeks before my payment was due and they waited until after my check cleared the bank before mailing it. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!

Beware of the so called orientation that the hotel highly recommends. Basically they show you the pool area which is already very obvious and then you spend the next two to three hours listening to a timeshare spill. It is TERRIBLE. I thought my husband was going to blow a gasket. Don't be fooled by the gifts they offer you to go through all of that garbage. It is a waste of time!! I probably would've thought twice about going here, but I already purchased it before I saw all these reviews. I was expecting some problems, but besides the sunset people not picking us up at the airport, (and leaving us there to fend for ourselves as all the mexican taxi people insist on explaining to us why we should go with them instead) there weren't any. My wife and I and another couple stayed at the Royal Mayan on an RCI points exchange, but went to the ROYAL SUNSET for a timeshare presentation. We enjoyed the SUNSET so much we bought two timeshare weeks. They have four timeshare/hotel locations and we visited them all in the Cancun area. You do not have to purchase the "all inclusive" plan when staying at the SUNSET locations. We especially liked their FISHERMEN'S VILLAGE down the coast in Playa Del Carmen. I would definitely recommend all the ROYALO locations! Paul VT.

The hotel and facilites are great. The rooms are extremely clean. My husbad dropped a shirt behind the couch and moved it to retrieve, even back there it ws spotless. The service has a lot to be desired! There just isn't any, at the pool or the beach. We complained and did get waht we needed at times. But when we complained they would send us a waiter just to wait on us. Other people would still sit there or have to go and get something on there own. It's like they just didn't get it! Recently we exchanged our week through RCI at the Royal Sunset-All Inclusive (#4363). November 22-Dec 1. Our experience at this resort was not good. We knew that we would be required to pay a daily per person fee as a part of our exchange $63 per adult and $32 per child or $1554 for our stay.
