Sumengen Hotel

I could not fault the location of the hotel, only a 2 minute walk to main sights in Sultanahmet, but the overall hotel service left a lot to be desired. Firstly we were given a room with AC that wasn't working. After asking the reception twice to come up to take up to take a look (and waiting for an hour until they did) were told that they would fix the following morning but this never happened. I love this hotel, it is one of my all time favorites. We stayed in a beautiful room with a view of the sea. This hotel is in a great location with quick access to the Blue Mosque and Citadel as well as numerous places to eat. The hotel staff was particularly helpful and friendly, making this stay even more enjoyable. We were there when there were not many tourists in the city, and hardly any in the hotel but they still provided a huge breakfast and plenty of staff to accomodate us. I can't say enough about this fabulous place!

We have just returned from a great stay in Istanbul, Turkey. We stayed at the Sumengen Hotel. We booked a family room for ourselves and our two children and our parents had a double room. The hotel was lovely. Spacious rooms, very clean and only a short walk to all the tourist sites and the tram system. We decided to book the Sumengen Hotel based on the TripAdvisor reviews...They were right on. You cannot ask for a better location. The majority of tourist sights are within walking distance. The hotel itself is very charming. The rooms are quite comfortable, clean and well decorated. The hotel staff is friendly and there is someone available at the hotel 24 hours a day. In my opinion you get a lot of value for your Dollar/Euro at this hotel. We would definitely stay at this property again.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend in the Sumengen hotel in Istanbul. We were in room 602 which has wonderful sea views and a jacuzzi . The hotel has a perfect location. Only a 1 minute walk from the Blue Mosque and the Catacombs. The nearest tram stop is very close which will take you down to the spice market or to the funicular to take you to Taksim Square.

We have recently come back from a long weekend in Istanbul and it was wonderful to be there again. We have been there a couple of times before and each time we have stayed at the Hotel Sumengen, after finding it by chance the first time we were there. A stranger to Istanbul, i was. Had no idea about the city, i was blindly roaming on the internet to find a hotel for my little vacation -- upcoming in two weeks or so,then!! I had picked 'The Best Western at Obelisk" almost as automatically as you'd eye on McDonald's when looking for food... The location was excellent! close to the old town sultanahment . The blue mosque was beautiful i loved the view from the terrace . The room's were clean and comfortbale and the breakfest was very good . The staff was nice the reception's kemal was very helpful . were coming back next year to stay!

My husband and I stayed at the Sumengen for 3 nights in October. This was our second stay there, we like the location and had a very good experience the last time. As a pleasant surprise the hotel was recently refurbished and the rooms were completely changed, made into spacious rooms most of them with fantastic bosphorous views. The bed was really comfortable, there was also a fold out sofa, the room was pretty much like a suite with a living room area. Having arrived in Istanbul to find the guest house we had pre-booked was surrounded by building works, cranes etc. and had a tiny, poorly equipped room, we decided to try and find somewhere else for our 3 night stay. Luckily very nearby we found the Sumengen Hotel, and were given a huge room on the top floor. The whole of one wall was window so we had wonderful views over the Sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus, and the central window was full-length and opened right up with railings to prevent accidents, although there was no actual balcony.... more
