Clarion Saint James & Albany Hotel

Spent my honeymoon at this hotel and whilst my wife and I would both say the location was excellent we were slightly disappointed with the standard of the room. We booked a junior suite and considering the price expected something very special. The corridors are very dark and small and the decor of the room didn't create a good impression since it was dark red wallpaper all round making the room feel a bit glum! We had booked to stay for 3 nights from 28th August. When we arrived we thought great location. Great lobby. We waited about 15 minutes to be checked in but were then informed that we were being upgraded to a Suite from a superior room. What luck we thought. However, the suite was down a dingy, grotty corridor and although we asked for a no-smoking room, it stunk of smoke. I was concerned after reading all the reviews, but was very satisfied with the Clarion St. James (Aug 4-7, 2004). We were in room 529 which overlooks the courtyard and was very quiet. The furnishings were very comfortable and the decor was tasteful. The separate shower was EXTREMELY small, my 6'2" 200lb husband had a difficult time with this, but overall it was a very nice room. The staff was very accomodating and friendly and the location cannot be beat. We never patroned the bar or restaurant so I cannot comment on those.

I stayed in the Superieur Double room #414. It was nice & cozy, but a little too small for that price (490 euros per night) I think it is overly priced. At least, with that money, you can try the room #411 or #412 which are twice as big as the room #414. The same rate, strangely enough. Location, though, was great. It is in the heart of Paris; Madeleine, Opera, Le Marais, Champs-Elysse...you can easily access to those areas on foot.

Our stay at the St James was fantastic. The location is the greatest. The metro is across the street, Paris Vision is one block away. Cityrama is one block away. L'Open Tour Hop On and Off bus is 3 blocks away. Can walk to the Louver and Orsay. The hotel staff was very helpful and the porter's were able to get us a taxi very quickly. Fine hotel! I was worried about this hotel after I read some reviews, but we stayed for 4 nights (2 weeks ago) and it was great. You can't beat the location! The hotel staff was friendly and it was nice to be able to swim after walking all day. The restaurant was closed so I don't know about the food - but it is only two blocks from rue St.Honore where you will find excellant cafes. My family and I just stayed in a junior suite at the St. James and Albany and loved it. The location is perfect-- we walked almost everywhere except on our visit to Montmarte. Right across from the Louvre and d'Orsay, it was simply the ideal location. The room was beautiful, immaculate, and the staff was just terrific. From the front desk to the crew who turned down the beds and left chocolates on the pillow, they were all just great. I would stay there again in a minute.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Albany St James last weekend, and stayed in room 603. Firstly, it is a great location! I think that the hotel is nice, a typical 2-3 star with a nice pool (although shutting the pool at 3pm on sundays is not great for those who like a quick swim after a day out sightseeing). My husband and I spent our 25th anniversary in Paris at this hotel from April 30th until May 5th. Several websites indicated this was a four star hotel, but there were some negative reviews on tripadvisor.com. I was a little nervous about the whole thing because I wanted everything to be really nice. And the location IS indeed fabulous! Stayed here for one week up til 23 April. Very spacious room overlooking courtyard. Staff were courteous and helpfull. Excellent location. Would definitely stay again.
