Local Cave Hotel

Pros: - Great atmosphere, with cave rooms on different levels, a swimming pool in the middle, etc. - Quiet and peaceful (at least in October, when the outside common areas were not heavily used). - Pleasant staff. - Good French toast for breakfast! - Nice views. - Good price (at least for now, though prices in Turkey are never reliable so...) - anyway we paid 50 euros/night. Wow, what a place! Seher and Harun made the whole family very welcome. They run an excellent hotel. The Turkish buffet breakfast was one of the best we had in Turkey. The rooms were huge and comfortable, decorated with simple, traditional local furniture and carpets. The bathroom facilities were more than adequate, and all were scrupulously clean. Apparently only 6 hotels in central Goreme have swimming pools. Theirs is unheated but refreshing in the hot sun. Free WiFi connection to broadband. Very short walk to town centre. Laundry... more

Harun and his staff went out of their way to solve the few problems which arose for us in Goreme. We loved our room - spacious and full of character. Near downtown Goreme, but not in the middle of it, so our room was quiet. Easy to walk to the Open Air Museum and to other spectacular valleys.

All in all, I enjoyed my stay at the Local Cave House; Maiko and the rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly, the location was wonderful, the rooms were large and reasonably priced. I was able to arrange to take a balloon tour through a well-respected balloon company for 25-30 euros less than the advertised price by booking through the hotels; I did not take any of the other tours offered, but they seemed to have a nice selection of tours available. This was the perfect spot for our family. Beautiful pool, great views, laid back atmosphere, wireless access, peaceful and quiet, helpful host, laundry, funky cave suites with the perfect combination of safety and privacy, tasty breakfasts with a new cake every day...all in our budget in the enchanting Cappadocia region. I can't say enough about this place!

Great cave, very comfortable and a real experience. Staff were very helpful with tourist info, and got up and made us breakfast at 6am!

We arrived in Goreme first thing and got picked up by the staff from the bus station. We made our booking by telephone the day before and got a double room with breakfast for 50 euro. They were not willing to negotiate on the price. When we arrived they were kind enough to offer us breakfast for no extra charge. We spent many mornings on the terrace looking out onto a beautiful view of Goreme and chatting to the staff and other travellers. We thought we were booked into the kelebek pension for 2 nights and arrived there to no welcome, unfriendly faces and noone prepared to help us with our luggage. We didnt like the atmosphere or setup so were quite relieved when told that our booking had not gone through. We made a call to the local cave house where we were meant to stay 2 nights later and the manager happily agreed to pick us up. My husband and I stayed a week in Sept. 07 and loved the family atmosphere, the willingness to please, the layout of seating around the pool which encourages chat with fellow travellers and most of all, the really neat Manager and his partner. They are sooo helpful and nice. A home away from home (albeit in a cave..)

Hi, I stayed at the Local Cave House in Goreme for 3 nights at the beginning of April 2007. It was a great experience and I would recommend the establishment. I'll break it down: Pros: (many) -Great price. Very inexpensive hotel. -Nice place, newer, and nice furnishings. Also, looks like they are improving and adding on to it. I would expect this to be one of the nicer places in Goreme.
