Great Hotel, Wonderful People
from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading some of the previous reviews we were definately wondering about the Blue Bay Club. DON'T listen to the negative reviews. The hotel and rooms were clean, and spacious. We had an ocean view balcony when we didn't request it and the entire staff was extremely eager to please and some of the most friendly people I have ever met. The food was quite good, with a wide selection so you could always find something you liked, and there was always a buffet or snack bar open, as well as one of the bars. The drinks were great too, with a wide selection. As far as entertainment, the hotel "crazy bunch" crew were extremely energetic and funny and held a variety of activities everyday to get people involved (volleyball, water aerobics, bingo, music trivia...) This is a family resort, and it is a ways from the hotel zone, but we found it nice and quiet and the shuttle bus and boat to the Blue Bay Getaway was convenient and ran several times a day. The Getaway had great facilities for the partiers and the food and drinks were good there too. It was really nice to have free access to the two hotels..and direct (free) transportation to the hotel zone but we still preferred the Blue Bay Club's rooms and people. If you are looking for a beautiful, clean place to stay I'd highly recommend the Blue Bay Club and would definately return there myself.

We went to the Blue Bay with an open mind, and were far from disappointed! The staff were very open and friendly, and SO helpful. The water was warm and we had a great time using the catamaran, and other water toys that are available for use while staying there. We had an ocean view room, with a comfy bed,tv and table and chairs. There was a kitchette, but no pans or other utensils available. Every night we slept with the sliding glass door open and the light breeze blowing throught the room all night long! Talk about heaven! Snorkeling was very nice right off the resort, with starfish and angel fish abounding! We did do a few tours, Gerarro was very helpful, but Sissy was the best! She is down by the pool and you really get your money's worth. We took the Trimaran to the Isle of Majeres, where we snorkeled and shopped and on the way back we were able to spinnaker sail. WHEEEEEEEEEEEE! They took a great video which was available for $25 USD. Great fun watching it after getting back home and showing the kids! We also did the Scuba Cancun tour, which Gerarro set up. That was great fun, and we met alot of wonderful people on the boat. Norbert was very helpful and great fun too! A DVD or VCR tape was available for purchase, not a bad price for either one. The food was really quite good! Always an assortment, and always much available. The breakfast was a great way to start the day! The theatre was nice, kind of lower Las Vegas, but still you could tell all of the people were having fun watching the shows! Now about the bus system, you just have to experience it at least once! It was 4 peso's (about 40 cents) each way and they stop where ever you need them too. We visited and shopped at Market 28 and got some great bargains. Half the fun was just seeing all that was available and bargaining with the people. Taxi's were always there if you needed them, about $9 to town or where ever. Just make sure you set the price BEFORE you get inside the cab! We will most definatly go back..coming home to snow was not an easy thing to do!
Marginal At Best

Told by travel agent rooms were suits with 1 king or two queen size beds beds were regular double beds. Poor customer welcome package, resturants rules, room service not explained well, what was well explained was if you lost a towel or your all inclusive bracelet it would cost you many US$. Rooms were clean, although had the noisy single unit air conditioners, limited hot water, not enough for two tubs or showers without waiting. "Resturants" turned out to be one and two others requiring reservations which were only allowed three times in the week. Food was bland and over cooked, the exception was the Mexican night when the food had flavor. Evening snacks were taco chips and hamburgers, could not get a piece of fruit or salad. All inclusive did not include wine with dinner. After dinner shows were marginal with the exception of the Mexican Night which was entertaining. Evening entertainment consisted of mostly drinking contests and other programs not intended for children or teens. Drinks were served in small plastic glasses, mostly ice, and which were washed in soapy water and rinsed and reused, not sanitized. "Pools and Hot Tubs" turned out to be one pool with a divider for a kids area. No kids program offered. Pushed numerous times to attend "Welcome Breakfast", finally got tired of saying no, high pressure discount vacation sale pitch. Transportation to Clubs and Discos was only one way. While the property was clean, the areas beside it were being used as dumps. The "white sand beach" was being held in place by sand bags and they appeared to be dreging sand from somewhere to try to build it up, as it appeared to be eroding away. The beach at the north end of the resort by the beach vollyball area and marina is dangerous as there is a rapid dropoff without and warnings

My husband and I took our 3 kids with us to Blue Bay for two weeks. Quiet, away from the crush yet still easily accessable to Cancun proper by the boat or bus. Local people wonderful, helpful, never felt unsafe. Had to get medical help at one point (son's ear infection) and met many patient, kind helpful people along the way (pharmacists, cab driver, hotel clerk ...) We walked to the ferries to the beautiful Isla M. and went twice we were so enchanted. The Blue Bay itself was fab. Great food, wonderful shows and a rec. crew that were great with little kids and teenagers (our kids are 9, 12, 14) The staff were friendly, helpful, kind ... can't say enough. Lots to do at the resort which, thank goodness, not a cookie cutter American hotel but a terracotta/tiled/open breezeway style -- S. European/mexican style. Beach was lovely but more important to me: the water was calmer than in the hotel zone. No undertow or crashing waves, safe for the kids to swim in. It was a beautiful holiday and two weeks was too short!
It is Your vacation

Hey, people! It is your vacation. You can make or break it! If you are expecting a stay in a luxury hotel, book at a luxury hotel. The Blue Bay Club and Marina isn't exactly that, but it is clean, lovely, and exploding with character! and every staff member from the maid who cleans up after you to the man who distributes the pool towels to the cute evening DJ makes it a small mission to make the guests smile. Get into it! We did! In early/mid-January my sister and I met some GREAT fellow Canadians (eh) and Brits and Mexicans and had a blast! The Activities staff were also GREAT. They were always there it seemed, arranging and leading afternoon and evening events. They had fun too, I think, when we were all laughing it up. Just like people everywhere, they need motivation to enjoy their jobs... The hotel is off the beaten path, but NOT isolated from the hotel zone and downtown Cancun. Cabs are always available (about 70 pesos to downtown), or you could take the R13 downtown for a kick (4 pesos), or catch the Blue Bay Shuttle (free) to the sister hotel in the hotel zone, the Blue Bay Getaway. The BBG seems a faster pace and party party atmosphere. The Blue Bay Club and Marina is ocean-side, so there are birds. Just don't leave your lunch unattended on the sun deck! The ocean is warmer than the pool, but sometimes you need to cool down. About four out of 7 nights the hotel serves dinner in a theatre hall across the road while the Blue Bay Dance group performs theme shows. One show is Disney, another Mexican, International and Caribbean. They are wonderfully performed and fun! The food is fine. There are a variety of dishes to enjoy, and you can pretty much get food 20 hours of a day. The drinks were fine also, but I have to admit I stuck mainly to Margaritas, cerveses, and Pina Coladas. Don't go crazy though, you don't want to sleep away the next day because there is so much to experience! Tours are available from the guy by the front desk (sorry senor, I do not remember your name), and I highly recommend Chichen Itza and XCaret day and night tour. Exciting and Exquisite. The ferry to Isla Mujeres is just a 5 - 10 minute walk from the front doors of Blue Bay, and if you can safely get by the 'tour' solicitors on the dock (telemarketers in person), catch the ferry and check out the island. It is beautiful! It has hotels, shops, and Garaffon Park. You won't be disappointed. If you are, it is your own damn fault...(how did that line get in there? It is not sad Margaritaville by any means). OK, I'm rambling now, but I miss it! I suppose I could give a poor review and keep it one of Cancun's best kept secrets, but I think that the happy and hopeful people of this world deserve to share a bit of their lives with the people at Blue Bay Club. You know who you are! You won't regret it! Maybe I'll see you there when I return next year ;-)
Winter Getaway

Spent two weeks at the Blue Bay Club. Staff were very helpful. Room was clean. Very good food quality. Facility is well maintained. Beach is adequate. BB Club has made a serious effort to restore the beach after Hurricane Gilbert. Evening shows are far from Las Vegas quality. At best this is a three star facility. Gym equipment is outdated. Many of the electronic monitors on the equipment do not function. Guest services on site are more than adequate. Internet access is slow, cost for 30 minutes is reasonable at $50.00 pesos. We went for a rest, it met our expectations.
We enjoyed it!

We stayed at the Blu Bay Club last April and had a good time. The hotel is pretty quiet and is located outside the noisy hotel area of Cancun. The facilities were okay and our room was excellent being more like an apartment with the bedroom upstairs from the lounge area with superb views across the bay. The pool was rather cold and was in the shade of the hotel from midday onwards and the staff at the pool bar were fairly disinterested. The best part was being able to use the facilities at the sister hotel, Blue Bay Getaway, across the bay at no extra cost. There was a courtesy boat or bus that ran to and from each day so went across to the Getaway most days to use their pools which were much warmer and nicer. They had a better range of restaurants too but that hotel in general had a lot of young adults which in turn made quite a lot of noise. Children are not allowed there, so families cannot use these facilities, also a good point - no kids jumping on top of you in the pools! So, we had the best of both worlds, room at BBC and use daytime facilities at Getaway and a free boat trip to boot! Can't be bad. We enjoyed the evening shows, in fact they were the best we've seen anywhere whilst on holiday. We would go back to the Blue Bay Club again.

Our trip

We stayed a week at the Blue Bay Club. The only negitive thing I could say is that the first room they tried to give us was unsatisfactory. We expressed this to the Bell Boy and he promptly showed us two other rooms that were great! Ohter than that, we found the staff to be very helpful and the activities people to be fun and entertaining. We liked this resort better than the hotel zone for a more relaxed atmosphere. We recommend the Blue Bay Club and will definitely stay there again.
Don't expect the environment of the Hotel Zone
from A TripAdvisor Member
Blue Bay Club has an RCI "Gold Crown" plaque behind the check-in desk. It ain't so!!!! Think three-star. Think "no surf". Think "seaweed in water". Think "noisy". ( I wonder if they are able to convert noise to electricity, using it as a power supplement??? ) There are a number of the staff who seem to think the guests like loud. I don't. BBC is a bit isolated. That's good if you want to avoid the noise of crashing surf, not good if you want to get into the crashing surf. It's protected from the sea by the island offshore (Isla Mujeres). It's close to a ferry that will take you to the island, which has a variety of things to see. I didn't see much of it, so can't comment. The place can be irritating, especially if you're expecting more. Food is so-so, but the Fajita Patio was okay, and they have a "fine dining" restaurant requiring reservations (takes some doing to get one, though) that's included in the all-inclusive package. All-inclusive does not include wine with the meal at that restaurant, though. The bars serve some very watered-down liquor. I noticed that phenomenon at several establishments in Cancun, however. Even at the JW Marriott (think big 5 stars + for that place!!) a drink for $8 USD tasted a bit anemic. BBC does have something I didn't see elsewhere, though: two small Hobie catamarans! They aren't rigged very precisely, but they do serve their purpose. They are part of the "all-inclusive", along with some other watercraft (including windsurfers). Meals served at the large auditorium are to be avoided unless you like garish displays and body-piercing noise levels. Our 6 and 10 year-old girls like the shows for about 15 minutes, then opted to leave. They preferred the Cartoon Network! Laundry: there was a washer and drier requiring 5 peso coins to operate. The front desk had no coins, but it didn't matter: the washer didn't work. Child care is provided in a very small room with some things to climb on, a tv, and some art materials. The girls did ok for an hour or two at a time, but were more than ready to go when we picked them up. The staff. Well, overall I thought they were helpful, but some were only marginally so. If you persist you can get what you need, generally speaking. The bartenders seem to have a lot of passive aggression. Must be the constant sense of serving low-quality drinks to customers who don't seem to know the difference. There was a sign on one of the bars saying that only those with the highest-cost all-inclusive package could get non-domestic liquors. That included me, so I asked for name brand liquors in my drinks. The bartenders either pretended to not understand or gave me the other stuff, anyway. I finally got something out a Bacardi bottle, but who knows what? Didn't really taste much like Bacardi, but I'm really no connoisseur.... Basically, don't go to this place unless you can get a real "deal" on the costs. If you're paying prices competitive with better places, go to them. Also, if you plan to take a lot of day trips in Cancun, why waste money on all-inclusive packages. A day trip to Xel-ha left us totally tired and unable to make any use of the facility or food at BBC.

This place is a dump, the beach is coverd in seaweed and the food was the worst I have ever had. $40.00 US to take a cab and back from hotel row. If anyone wants pic's of this feel free to email me at bk2410@hotmail.com
