Traveller reviews

"This was a very good hotel from the point of view of service, but unfortunately I and 6 other members of our party were struck down by what was identified as food poisoning, either on the night of stopover or hours afterwards. According to our tour guide, this had happened on 5 previous occasions - not a good record. It quite spoiled our holiday"

Good hotel, but soulless

"This is a stylishly appointed and very well equipped modern hotel, aimed mainly at tourist parties. The common parts are quite impressive, with a good range of facilities including a small fitness centre. Rooms were large and spotlessly clean. However, the hotel has a rather cold atmosphere, largely because it is spread over a very large area, and staff seemed rather vague and uninterested. Comfortable, with huge beds and good bathrooms."

City resort

"The Kolin Hotel is a large resort style hotel on the edge of the city. We used it as a base to visit the Anzac sites and it was lovely to come back to after an exhausting day of walking.

The facilities are amazing for the price- indoor & outdoor pools, gym, spas, turkish bath, sauna and a choice of bars (don't miss having a drink on the rooftop at sunset).

The rooms were pleasant and clean and buffet breakfast & dinner were included. The food was typical of a buffet and if you wait until after 8:30 to eat you will avoid the bulk of the bus tour groups, which can be quite noisy.

As the Hotel is on the edge of the city it is not a place to stay if you don't have your own transport unless you just want to enjoy the facilities on site.

The broken a/c unit made for a terrible experience

"We stayed here in the height of Turkey's hot season -- August-- with temperatures ranging from 40 to 50 C. Unfortunately, the airconditioning in our two rooms was not functional and we practically boiled to death. We suffered a miserable night in the Kolin, and the staff was completely unresponsive to our requests for room changes or maintenance on the a/c units. I completely agree with the other review posted on this site re: the horrible a/c quality. Do not stay here in the summer. Terrible."

A very good hotel with good location

"Kolin Hotel is located by the Dardanel strait. It is a 5-star hotel with good organisation. Therefore, beeing a 5-star hotel, it has high standards.

Few minutes from the hotel by walking, you have Migros shopping center with a large supermarket, some shops and cafes. You can spend some time there in the evenings.

If high standards are not very important for you, and if you want to experience the lively city center of Canakkale, then other smaller hotels in the center may be advised.

Since it was in November, I did not try to swim in the sea. I believe that swimming in the season would be a good idea.

Nice View

"This is a fairly new hotel. We only stayed here one night on our tour but the room was very nice, roomy and clean with a nice view of the Dardenelles. the food was fairly good as well both at breakfast and dinner. They had a good fitness room with helpful staff. it is also acroos the street from a large North American style supermarket so you can stock up on water and drinks if you want."

Kolin lives up to its name

"It’s the only 5 star hotel in town so it doesn’t have to try too hard so it didn’t! Facilties were akin to a 5 star hotel but the rooms were more like 3 star. The positives – lovely sea view, spacious and clean enough. Then there was a ridiculous charge of YTL10 for a swim cap to use the pool. We spoke to another guest on our tour group. They informed us that they took a stroll on the waterfront and were "greeted" by a sewerage outlet near the property boundary. We were warned that supplies bought from the nearby supermarket would be confiscated. The hotel management argue that the hotel, after all, has a bar fridges in your room, bars and restaurants. Yeah right, at greatly inflated prices. Sure enough the “Gestapo” at the door confiscated my water and Coke. This hotel certainly lived up to its name!"

Great hotel but

"This is a beautiful hotel, but they would not turn on the air airconditioner after repeated requests. We could not get any air thru the windows so it was a miserable stay."

Wonderful place!

"We stayed in this hotel for 5 days in September, with a large group (150) from Australia. We were given cool drinks on arrival and the check-in was efficient and well organised. I found the rooms to be very large, bright, clean and modernly decorated. We had a king size bed and a fabulous view of the bay and town. Our air conditioning worked well, as it was 30 - 35 degrees celsius when we were there. The buffet at the hotel, was the best I have ever seen. The variety was endless, it was all very fresh and every night they had a different theme. The decorations carved from watermelons, ice, or butter were absolutely incredible as were the desserts they offered. At breakfast the choice was also vast and served until 10.30am. There is a large bar and lounge area and yes smoking is allowed, as it is everywhere in Turkey and most of Europe. The facilites are endless, indoor heated 25 metre pool and gym, massage and beauty parlour, hairdresser, outdoor pool and more. The staff were wonderful and very attentive, nothing was too much bother for them, even climing on the roof to retrieve a guests towel that had blown out the window. Cannakale itself is a lovely town with loads of interesting things to see. Troy is only a 20 minute drive and the ferry across the Dardenelles, makes the trip to Gallipoli much more enjoyable. Kolin Hotel was a pleasure to stay at with the largest rooms we experienced on our month long trip. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a top class hotel near Gallipoli."

Okay hotel....

"Hotel is fairly new and claims to be the only 5 star in the area. It does offer two pools (indoor and outdoor) and other recreational facilities. However, the rooms were very plain, the lobby was filled with cigarette smoke, the buffet restaurant was very loud, although the food was decent, and there was only one person at the reception desk during morning check out. We had three rooms and all three had problems with the air conditioning. They have large conference facilities and are probably the best hotel in the area which is convenient to Troy and across the Dardenelles by a short ferry trip to Gallipoli. However I would say they are more along the lines of a 3 star hotel."
