Outstanding!
from OutandAboutAlaska
I stayed at the Yalmakan 18 years ago and decided to stay there again after my first wonderful experience. Our room was amazing and the staff was helpful and friendly. The beach is beautiful and the food and drink were also fantastic. The price was reasonable. We would love to stay there again. We also liked the location near the airport and away from the crazy downtown area. Try it, you'll like it!!!!

Very disappointing...no way a 4 star hotel...dirty...not enough help...old facility...needs torn down and start over...worst of all...within 48 hours of returning home we were at the doctor with salmonella poisoning...not worth it...doctor bills and medication may cost os as much as the vacation...obviously not distilled water...watch how they wash your glass??It is all about timeshares...which we weren't told up front...who would buy a piece of this dump!!!?Don't go...choose another hotel....don't know if we will ever return to Mexico after this experience!
excellent resort

My husband and I recently stayed for a week at the Yalmakan. Now called the Interclub Beach Resort. We had an absolutely great time at this resort. We were there from 2/10/03 til 2/17/03 and the entire staff couldn't have been more accomidating. We arrived about an hour befor the 3:00 p.m. check in time and were given bracelets for all inclusive. We were then told to either go and enjoy lunch or go to the beach bar for refreshmets. I really wanted a balcony and bathtub for our room. My husband was told to come back Tuesday at noon and the room will be changed. They arranged for my husband to have delivered to our room on Valentines Day our anniversary 1 1/2 dozen roses which were beautiful. Yes, during the time period specified there were problem with the Air Conditioning but it was confined to only one building, there are three sections. The entertainment staff tries so hard to get everybody young and old into the act of being active. Sure, youre far from the club and the night life, but its only 6 pesos per person and less than a ten minute bus ride. Very relaxing and they pour a good drink also. would I go again, "in a heartbeat".
Worst hotel ever!

I'm not going to lie....staying at the Yalmakan was quite and experience! My friends and I made up a song about how bad this hotel was....our room flooded, the showerhead broke, our balcony had a hole in it, our phone didn't work, the beds were wet and invested with bugs, the food was unedible!

Yalmakan is also known as Interclub Cancun. It is a very disappointing hotel. It is run-down and requires a much needed major renovation. We had paid $1250 CDN/person (taxes and insurance included) we certainly did not get the best bang for our buck. Hindsight is always 20/20 if we had just spent a little bit more our vacation would have been much more enjoyable. We were at Yalmakan from February 2-9, 2003.Cancun is a great place with lots to do, but certainly I would never stay at Yalmakan again.Food:There are three places to eat: Cafeteria; Blue Paradise, Snack Bar.The food in the cafeteria is limited (very few choices) and the food selection is pretty much the same for the whole week They just make a different combination of the same thing. Service at the Blue Paradise is sub-par, just because it is understaffed. They never did ask how the food was or everything being ok Youre better off eating at the cafeteria. The snack bar has limited choices and has the same food selection everyday. Room:We stayed in Room 189 of the South Tower or Tower 1. The view is amazing - and that is all that youll get from the room. I found the bed ok although my wife found it uncomfortable. The rattan furniture looks nice, but in need of dusting. There were stains on the cloth seats of the dining chair and occasionally would get stained sheets for the bed. There is a kitchen area with a sink and an electric stove burner only ours was disconnected and the sink just looks unclean. The bathroom is a story in itself. The tiles are uneven. The pressure and water temperature constantly changes while taking a shower. The showerhead is broken. The curtain rod and the toilet paper holder are haphazardly put together with electrical tape and the bathroom has no ventilation. There is a safe in the room, but would have to pay an extra $2 US / day rent the special lock to secure it. There is a 19 TV. Very few channels (SONY, Discovery, CNN, MC, Fox) and are mostly mix or in Spanish. Make sure to ask if you dont see a remote in the room. By the way, there is no clock in the room. There is AC, but it was broken for the last 2 nights that we were there. Also we lost water service the last day. It was horrible as the whole resort was affected. There were other horror stories:One lady we were speaking to says their bathroom ceiling was leaking water coming from the bathroom above them.Timeshare Presentation:Theyll offer a $30 US certificate and a chance to win free accommodation. If you are not looking into buying decline this offer right away. I dont think $30 US is worth it wasting an hour.Heres the tactic they use. Theyll offer you all the places you can go in Cancun. If you have the time theyll offer you a $30 US certificate along with a chance to win free accommodation. By the way one of the winning number is 2545 or 2525 the last 4 digits of your Credit Card. Then youre off to an hour-long tour. Theyll show the tennis court, the theatre, the baby-sitting club, then off to a bar maybe to loosen you up with drinks. They would ask you a few questions then off to show the room. And if you compare it to your room it is almost night and day although still style of furnishings. Then theyll sit you down with the advantages and disadvantages. If you say no they try and to make it sound a better deal. If you say no again, theyll go away, but would come back for another deal that would cost at half the price, minus certain items. Still if you say no hell call the manager who would then offer to make you an even better deal. They seem not to understand the word NO.Beach:There is a lifeguard on premises. The seaweeds that get washed up on shore is raked in the morning There is limited number of lounge chairs and shade (2) so get them early.Swimming Pool:Quite small and can get crowded. Certainly not enough lounge chairs to go around It was crystal clear when we first arrived on the 2nd but by the time we left on the 9th there is a film of oil on the surface.Activities:Repetitive activities throughout the week: Aqua Aerobics, Pool Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Line Dancing/Games, and BingoEntertainment:Nightly entertainment ranging from Casino Night, Dancing, Battle of the sexes, Dance show, Comedy that was a bomb, Karaoke night. It is held between the Fandango Bar and the Theatre.Facilities:There is a small store on location quite expensive. A bottle of purified water 1.5L costs $5 US.Jacuzzi:Was not working for the whole week that we were there. There is water and the jets are blowing, but no heat.Staff:Theyre nice except for the front desk but thats because they have to put up with all the complaints about the hotel and the restaurant staff again it is because they are so understaffed there. Otherwise theyre great and they try to do their best.Buses:Should you take the bus from downtown back to the hotel dont be surprised to be dropped off 1-2 hotels away as drivers tend to turn around long before reaching the hotel. Yalmakan is one of the hotels farthest from the entertainment area. We were expecting a 4-star treatment from a 4-star resort as what Interclub or Yalmakan advertising say that they are. From the tour group where we purchased this vacation says that this is 3-star resort our experience with Yalmakan certainly does not reflect that either.

We had a good stay at the hotel. Clean room, plumbing and lighting all worked properly. Maid service did a nice job keeping things neat for the week. Wait staff very friendly new most of them by name before I left. The spa was not working while we were there. Food was OK. We could always find somthing that we liked. Breakfast was always the best. Nice view from the dining room. *HINT* look for the Miami Herald in the mornings to read during breakfast. It great tips on getting around town with bus schedules and fares, weather reports and hot spots and other goings on in the area. The hotel provides free copies in the dinning room. There was always lots of drinks and the staff took care of you. We are definately going back

My husband and I have been to the Yalmakan twice and will be returning again this coming May (2003). People, you get what you pay for! Do not go in expecting a 5 star hotel. This is the cheapest all-inclusive hotel in Cancun! The front desk people are rude obnoxious jerks, and knowing Spanish only helps make them a little more nice. However, once you get past them the rest of the staff is great! Be friendly and you will be amazed at how much fun you can have! The rooms are not superb but how much time do you actually spend in your room when you are in Cancun? All I can say is if you're looking for a budget vacation give it a try. Go in with a good attitude and come home with an experience you to can brag about!
The staff tried very hard...

The hotel is run down and it is one of the furthest from the sites of entertainment, the food was ok...however, the staff tried really hard to make it an enjoyable trip and stay there, from the entertainment to activities, they really put their all into it. If we were to go back to Cancun, we would not stay there though. We got a ridiculously cheap deal and really can't complain! Drinks were free!

If I were going to cancun I sure wouldn't stay at the yalmakan. There is much better places for much better prices. If we would have spent like 300 bucks more we could have stayed at the Sun Palace next door, we went in the lobby for currency exchange and atm machine...much much much much much much much nicer than the crappy yalmakan. We were there for spring break so there was lots of beautiful babies and pretty cool people there but save a little more money and go elsewhere if you are going. There food is horrible at all places. It is free but you'd be better off bring cans of Armour Beef Stew and heating them on the hot plate. There alcohol is the one good thing, decent service in the bar which was where we had a blast every night before going out.

Hello! This is a budget hotel. You get what you pay for. It is a good deal for the price you pay. If you want a luxury hotel, pay the price! It is a good place for spring breakers and people looking for a party place.

We spent 17 days there last summer. We have traveled to either PV or CUN twice a year for the past 9 years, so we have a lot of places to compare it to. We are budget minded and tend to stay in 3 star facilities. We pay less and understand that with that comes some... more
