Arrived in the early evening to the Qawra Inn. It looked like any holiday hotel, apart from it’s gaudy pale pink colour. The reception area was presentable but was very busy. We found out later it was because of so many people making complaints. We got our key and... more

I've been to Malta many times and have stayed at the Qawra Inn and at the Venus (formerly Ruben Court). I find it to be overall very good value for money. The location is perfect, near the bus terminus and it's easy to get anywhere on the island. Ok, the place may need a... more

You get what you pay for.
I really can't believe all the bad reviews this hotel is getting. OK its basic but that's what we expected when we paid under 200 pounds for a week long half board holiday. The hotel doesn't claim to be anything other than it is, 3*, by Mediterranean standards not UK standards. Obviously a UK 3* is differenet but then the development in the two countries are very different too! Our room was basic, the food nothing special but both perfectly acceptable for what we paid. Overall we had a great time in Malta, travelled all around and as a result spent very little time in the hotel. When we did though we found the staff very helpful, pointing us to buses, changing currency, advising on restaurants etc. The nights we did spend in the hotel, there was always something fun going on and the vast majority of the people we bumped into were enjoying their holiday's immensley. Get a life people the Palm Court Hotel is a perfectly acceptable place to stay. I for one don't pay 200 pounds and expect 5* treatment!!
Do't be Tempted by the Price!
Palm Court is an absolutely filthy hotel. It smells, is really shabby. Our room had cockroaches. The manager used all sorts of excuses for the state of it. The initial outlay was cheap but it turned into a very expensive holiday as the food was not fit to eat, the so-called dinning room smelled so bad it was not fit to eat in there. It is a disgrace to the island and people of Malta - goodness knows why it is still in business. If this e-mail stops one person from booking it then it is worth my time. The swimming pool is so dirty we were unable to use it. The only one good thing was that one night the entertainment was a chap called Danny Devito Junior - it's a shame that the rest of the entertainment wasn't up to standard!
UNFAIR REVIEWS OF THIS HOTEL
Cant belive the 2 previous reviews of this Hotel, just got back from there myself, yes the food isnt up to much Im fussy so skipped the breakfast & bought a excellent breakfast for 1.4ml just up the street at the Welcome Inn.The rooms are basic but couldnt help noticing how thorough the cleaning girls were each day.The staff are a credit to the hotel nothing was to much of a problem for them & very courteous with it as well. The pool was spotless, and the whole pool area was cleaned down every night.(if there was rubbish left around it was by the people who created it in the first place.)I payed £110 for flight, transfers, & Half board for a week, what do people want for this kind of money!!! I think this Hotel is trying its best to cater for people on a budjet,if its as bad as some of the other reviews on this page why is it that the Hotel has so many LONG STAY REPEAT CUSTOMERS ? If this hotel was mine I would ditch the kitchens & let the residents buy there meals outside of the Hotel. Spend a few more bob on the rooms ( fitting decent locks )(not that I had heard of any thefts whilst I was there)and concentrate on giving just good clean affordable accomodation to budjet concious travellers.I would stay there again,no I wouldnt eat the food although apart from the blandness of the food most people seemed to be filling their boots without complaint. If you expect 5 star go & pay 5 star prices,if you want good clean CHEAP accomodation with very friendly staff who's only goal in life seems to be to make your stay as pleasant as possible give the Palm court a whirl, you may be suprised.I was in room 421 from May 1st to 9th 2004 & have NO CONNECTION AT ALL WITH THIS HOTEL & SO NOTHING TO GAIN. Best regards Dave & Kath
Get what u pay 4
Palm Court Hotel is shabby and fairly incompetantly managed, but, lets face it i had three weeks holiday H/B for £300. The beds were clean, the food was adequate and though i had been warned of cockroaches i did not see any. The staff were friendly and helpful. I met countless people who were back for their fifth, sixth, seventh visits, lots of them were extended stay guests.Though i do agree it probably didnt deserve a three star rating, i certainly got my money's worth and can only suggest that people who want four star premises for a pittance should grow up and get real.
What a dump
What a dump,I have never seen or experienced such a dirty, run down or badly run hotel as this! When we arrived I couldn't beleive my eye's,everyone was waiting outside in the street to be allocated a room. After 2 hour's wait in the boiling sun,we got our key, went to our room and as soon as we saw it we all(me,my husbandand, 10yr old daughter) said that were we had just left our cat's for a week was better than this! The light fitting's were hanging off the ceiling and walls. There was no air conditioning,no where to plug anything in,the bed's were filthy, there were holes in the walls the furniture consisted of a broken wardrobe,a patio chair, abroken dressing table and nothing else. The patio door's didn't lock and opposite the room were lot's of very noisy bars.My husband and daughter decided to cool off in the pool as it was stifingly hot,so we all made our way to the pool area, surely that would be better?NO it was disgusting, the pool area was littered with food and dirty cups, ice cream wrappers and all the covering besides and around the pool area were all torn and filthy. The pool itself was that dirty that it was a milky white colour and later on we were told by lots of other people that most of the children came down with ear infections,or some, like most of the adults caught salmonella poisoning!!!My husband actually ate something, but my daughter and I wouldn't.My daughter had an ice cream supposed to be all inclusive, but no only the cheap and nasty lolly-ices were included, anything that looked in the slightest bit edible you had to pay for.We stayed an hour and by then I had had enough and we demanded to be moved. So at a cost of an extra £250,we moved to another hotel. The policy of maltabargains is to pack you in any old where and if you want to move as virtually everyone who could, did and then at the extra cost to yourself, they will move you. When we demanded to be moved they didn't bat an eyelid and just told us to join the queue. My husband only had one thing to eat there and he too ended up with salmonella poisoning,so out of the 7 days we were there he spent 5 of those in bed!BE WARNED DO NOT GO THERE,ALL THE "COURT" HOTELS ARE THE SAME AND THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING.IT WAS ONLY AFTER WE HAD ARRIVED THAT SOMEONE TOLD US THAT THE PALM COURT HAD APPEARED ON "HOLIDAYS FROM HELL" I wished that I had watched that but I never used to,now I always do.
Oh dear!
Have none of you ever seen the Watchdog programme about this hotel?!?!?!? I took my travel agent to court back in 1998 and had all my money back. So, obviously, nothing has changed there then!! The hotel is well below standard and I totally agree with most comments from others. DON'T DO IT!!!!!
Malta 1, Palm Court nil
Hello, we got a trip to Malta for 133.00 HB for one week, and though I presumed the accomodation may be a little under the guarenteed 3* based on reviews, I did not expect what I found. This hotel would not be 1* in my opinion by British standards. At it's best it resembled a YMCA kids camp I went to as a child. During my stay (of one night I might add!) the kitchen flooded leaving a fowl smell in the restaurant area, but still they served up food here whilst mopping up what I think was possibly sewage or drainage waste of some sort adjacent to us. To be completely fair though, the rep was very friendly and upgraded us without query the morning after our arrival to a local 4* called Qwara Palace (for a small additional fee!!!), which I have to say was lovely...and from here on we thoroughly enjoyed our week in Malta. Personally...I would ask to upgrade before you arrive and pay the 50 quid extra!
very very bad
when we arrived at the palm court hotel in a clapped out mini bus we were very dissapointed with room it was very small and outdated. The ceiling fan was almost falling off. In the morning we were woken by the smell of the toilet overflowing. We must have lost at least a stone because the food was undercooked and greasy. The indoor pool if you can call it that was small and cloudy and had garden furniture floating in it. Some of the staff were nice but the car rental chap recommended by the hotel turned very nasty when asked how safe the kiddies seat was we ordered for our three month old child.Overall the hotel looked like a 1970's russian mental asylum with small dingy corridors.
AVOID the palm court hotel
The palm court hotel is a disgrace. You DO NOT get what you pay for. The food and everything else about the hotel is terrible. DO NOT go near the place. It is renowned for being a place which people have miserable holidays. Other people are right it is a scam. I would NEVER EVER go back. There is no nice bit about the place. I should warn you if you are going take upset stomach tablets as you will need them if you are eating that food we go upset stomachs so we had to eat out. There is also a bad smell at th hotel. The palm court hotel lets qwara in Malta down a little. Malta is a fantastic place. Out of ten I would give this hotel -10. I is that bad. I am sure that when the hotel first opened it was a very nice place. I saw a certificat on the wall for best food. I went a bit closer to find it was dated somewhere arout the time of the 1970's. It should be knocked down and rebuilt.
keep going back
I have been to Palm court three times. I have sat there hearing eople winging about the hotel but im sorry i dont see what they are complaining about. £200 half board we paid the first time in may 2002 Our room was immaculate the staff excellent the food was fine i didnt get ill. Ive had worse in more expensive hotels in Spain. The second time i took my daughter we had a fantastic time the third time i travelled alone as i felt safe in this hotel. I had them change my room not for its condition but it overlloked a wall no fun they moved me straight away the next day to a lovely room near reception for extra security. so im sorry you get what you pay for and your attitude to the staff will determine an average holiday or fantastic holiday. Its cheap chearful and all my friends that have been liked it too and have all been back
