Arrived in the early evening to the Qawra Inn. It looked like any holiday hotel, apart from it’s gaudy pale pink colour. The reception area was presentable but was very busy. We found out later it was because of so many people making complaints. We got our key and walked up a dimly lit corridor, which was carpeted. The carpet had been there for many years and was quite fusty, dirty looking and smelly. Thankfully we were not planning on sleeping in the corridor. We opened the door to our room and the first thing to great us was lovely cool air conditioning. This was so welcome as it was still over 30 degrees at 9pm. The room was clean but looked a quite worn. Pulled back the sheets and they were spotless clean. The bed was actually very comfortable. Priority number 1 met. Opened bathroom door and it also was clean apart from a little mould high up in the shower area. Priority 2 met. The hotel is located in a central area of Qawra and is surrounded by numerous bars and restaurants. It was not too raucous though. We were at the hotel on a half board basis. We never made it to breakfast but had a couple of dinners in the “canteen”. It definitely could not be described as a restaurant but more like a canteen. Some things that were served were good and some were poor. Chinese type dishes like sweet and sour chicken were very tasty. We later found out the chef was Chinese so the would explain it. The restaurant was on the top floor and was so hot it was unbearable. You could dine outside on the terrace but then you would have to run the gauntlet with the pigeons. We tended to eat out, as the local restaurants on the whole were excellent value and good quality. We glimpsed at the swimming pool area. It was surrounded by walls and not overly appealing to look at. The water was cloudy and milky looking. It was possibly by over use of chemicals but I wasn’t going to find out. Out and about in the town we chatted to people and everyone we spoke to knew of the Qawra Inn or had stayed there previously. We had great fun listening to the stories of people’s experiences of the place. Many people had returned to the hotel but no one spoke of any luxury. Apparently the 4th and 5th floors are the best in the hotel and are the most recently refurbished. We were on 4th floor. The bar in the hotel had live music every night. The staff were very friendly and beer was only 1 euro a pint but like most places it was from a can. To sum up we quite enjoyed our stay at the Qawra Inn and found it acceptable (just). We would not however be sending any of our friends or family to it is as so many people had issues with the place. We nicknamed it the Ritz. Not that is was good. It was because it rhymed with pits. Would we go back? Yes, if it was cheap enough. We paid around £10 per person per night so it was cheap. Describing the Qawra Inn as a hotel is over stating it. It is more like a hostel with private rooms and facilities. If you go, be prepared to accept this accommodation’s issues and you will have a good time.

My husband and I visited this hotel 8 years ago and it shouldve been condemned as a health hazard back then. I am astounded to see the place is still open - worse than that, it has been rebranded! Dont be fooled people. This place is hell on earth. On arrival at the hotel the lobby area was in chaos. An array of angry guests demanding to be moved. No such luck for us im afraid. We had booked all inclusive, which was a huge mistake. We woke one morning to a knock at the door, to be told the corridor was flooded and not to use the toilet. Fortunately there was a step up into our room which meant that our belongings were saved from the sewage that soaked the hallway. The dining area was in the bowels of the hotel and smelt pretty similar. We couldnt eat there. The afternoon we arrived we decided to sit by the pool. It was very unclean, smelly, sticky and the water was opaque. Each day we took the bus to the nearby beaches which was a welcome relief from the turmoil in Palm Court. It mightve only be cheap, but we certainly got more than we bargained for. Such a shame that this hell hole is our enduring memory of Malta. Never again.

This hotel provides basic accomodation at a very good price.
On reading previous reviews we were on the point of cancelling the accomodation but decided we would judge it for ourselves. The fabric of the hotel is as described below but we were relieved to find our bedrooms were clean and the air conditioning was working well. The towels and bed linen were changed after three days.
On our arrival,we were not impressed by the restaurant however, standards rose, carpets and lift were disinfected, cutlery polished, crockery inspected and room cards checked. Staff attitudes to Customer Service also changed.
The food was plentiful although you have to be selective .
We did not use the pool and it wasn't inviting (see comments below).
This hotel is ideal for anyone looking for a cheap base to explore the island.

OH MY GOD THIS PLACE WAS ABSOLUTELY FILTHY AND STUNK !!!
we arrived on friday night 12 th august about 10pm. tired and hot.the lobby was full of people complaining two minutes later we knew why.there was a terrible stench and the carpets stank and were all old and filthy dirty.
we were given our key to our room, which wasnt a room but a broom cupboard with a bed.filthy dirty and the smell was making us all ill.we had to goout and have a drink to get air.the air con never seems to work at the inn as everyone was complaining about it.
we got back and lay on top of the bed fully clothed and did not have a wash as the bathroom was louse bound.
not been cleaned for months.
breakfast was awful no clean cutlery or crockery fine if you want to end up in hospital.
the swimming pool was green and slimey yuk !!!!!!!
you can share breakfast with the pigeons eating off your plates. walked out at 7.30 am couldnt stop any longer wennt to club riza and what a palace absolutely five star. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO !!!!!!!!!! FIND ELSEWHERE.
IF YOU STAYED AT THIS PLACE IT WOULD PUT YOU OFF MALTA AND IT SHOULDNT MALTA IS A BEAUTIFUL STUNNING ISLAND.

Aug 2011, the malta 11

i recently went on my 3rd trip to malta, fantastic island fantastic people.on arrival i could not get my hotel til the following day,so booked into the qawra for 1 night just to fill in,thats where the nightmare starts, the reception is chaos, there was 11 of us,we had booked 5 rooms,2 triple,2 double and a single.they tried to give us 2 rooms.when i said we had paid for 5 we had to wait for nearly half an hour to be sorted out.then we were given 3 doubles,1 triple(broom cupboard)and a single.we had to sleep 3 across 2 single beds.thank god it was only for 1 night!
the reception was the cleanest part of the place, the smell was just undescribable, it was filthy, the brown carpet throughout was curling up all over the place.the bathroom tap wouldn't turn off and there was a brown sludge running down it.
we had read the reveiws before we went and thought it couldn't be that bad,and we were only staying 1 night(that was too long, next year i'd rather sleep on the beach).there were notices all over the place saying don't leave anything of value in your room, how can you go on holiday and not be able to leave anything in your room,we didn't even open our cases,we were worried something might get into our clothes.
we had read that the breakfast was the best bit about the stay, well that was rubbish as well, the restaurant was filthy and we couldn't find any clean cups, plates etc it was all disgusting and if you ate there you would spend the rest of your stay at the hospital with severe food piosoning.there were pigeons eating off plates, out on the terrace and the staff just didn't seem to be worried by it,(they probably cleaned up better than the staff!)
then if you went outside, the swimming pool was green, with a film over it,i wouldn't of let my dog swim in it,for fear of catching something, the sun beds were filthy and the green carpet around the pool was minging.
we checked in at 10 pm and by 7.45 the next morning i couldn't wait to get out,
if you live in a squat at home then it will probably still feel like your roughing it!!

My Husband & I booked this hotel for 2 weeks in July/August 2001. I have to be honest a didn't check any reviews what a mistake that was.
Having arrived at 12.00pm we were told the room would be ready at 2.00pm, as it was being cleaned, so we had a walk around the resort & went back to collect the key. Another couple were checking just before us & went off to their room only to return straight away as they had been put in a room that was already occupied.
We collected our key & made our way along a smelly corridor - on first inspection the room seemed ok but upon checking the bathroom I found a lump of hair in the bath drain.
We decided to make the most of it but at breakfast the next morning it was difficult to find clean cuttlery & the food was not better.
We did stay another night but then moved hotels.
Malta is a lovely place & the people are very friendly & we would go back but would never set foot in the Qawra Inn again

Good value for money & good location

I've been to Malta many times and have stayed at the Qawra Inn and at the Venus (formerly Ruben Court). I find it to be overall very good value for money. The location is perfect, near the bus terminus and it's easy to get anywhere on the island. Ok, the place may need a bit of refurbishing - I think the carpets and some of the fixtures look very old and worn, but its basically clean, the rooms are cleaned daily and there are fresh towels and linen. The rooms are basic but very comfortable and there is a good selection of food at the buffet. The staff are very helpful and friendly, particularly the night receptionist, Mario. (He used to work at the Ruben court) He's helped me book holidays and is always very helpful, polite and friendly and enjoys having a chat and a laugh with the guests. He gives very good advice and suggestions of interesting places to see in Malta. I would give him 5 stars for great customer service.

Please notice my warning, never ever go for holiday to Qawra Inn Hotel/Palm Hotel, the worst in all the island, disgusting dirty, horrible accomodation and the food which supposed to be served to swines. Spent there 10 days.Plenty time put complaints, unsuccesfully, even more according my reaserch Hotel cheats customers for years. Room service used to live room the same dirty and stinky as at the arrival, imagine sb hair on the sink! Curtains not washed for years, bedding as in NHS hospital, furniture and walls/flooring making a holiday a horror. My belongings were stolen, including my medication - staff cleaned up their hands! Kitchen staff used to leave us dirty dishes on the tables, never seen so many unhappy customers, we had to check every cup and plate as they were cleaned badly. Generally low customer service, never believe their 3stars, this "hotel" must be closed down!

Me and a friend booked a five day cheap break not expecting much and we certainly didn't get much. Firstly, the hotel looks nice enough but inside it is a whole different story. The staff were rude as soon as we arrived, the corridors smelt a mix of stale cigarette smoke and urine and were damp. The room looked worn due to stained ceilings, pealing plaster, dodgy looking electrics and the occasional splattered bug on the wall. The bathroom just smelt bad - a smell that was probably worsened by the heat. One day there were cockroaches in the shower luckily it was towards end of holiday. The hotel advertises air con which was just not working which resulted in leaving the balcony door open even during the day as it was so hot. The pool was a nice relief from the heat however it is evident that it is hardly ever cleaned. A majority of the decking chairs had holes in them too. The food was just awful. It is set up like a buffet and probably the safest bet was the toast for breakfast or the chips for dinner as the rest were either unrecognizable to what it was suppose to be, sat in a tray of oil/fat or was just inedible. The only drink available for free during dinner was coffee or milk. We did not complain about our room as compared to other peoples it was not that bad. Every time I walked through reception there were people complaining and they had appeared to have set up "complaint hours". This place in conclusion is a joke , even tour drivers laugh about the place. It is one of those places that you almost have to laugh at how bad it is and wonder how on earth the hotel is still open.
