When they advertised as Malta Bargains a total miss representation of the word BARGINS was deviously given.
What they should have been advertised as is Malta on the Cheap at expensive prices.
Although I must admit, fellow vacationers didn’t seem to have paid what I now believe were extortionate prices for a hovel described as a hotel.
The locals laughingly refer to Fawltly Towers! Well don’t know about you but, the way I remember Fawltly Towers, it may have been a mad house full of laughter and violence.
Not a hovel infested with stench and sickness.
Don’t know about you, but I reckon when you spend over £1000 for 7 days holiday, then not be able to dine in the mess hall because of rancid aroma, or have a cooling dip in the pool because of infectious virus that attacked instantly.
(the doctors must be quid’s in) its no surprise they smile welcomingly when they ask, where are you staying?
You can the £ signs flashing, as they scribble the prescription for antibiotics.
Sorry, I know you wanted to know about the holiday, but that really was the holiday.
Swimming with the dolphins wonderful though it was, an experience everyone should be allowed at least once in their life, pales into history as the smells and desperation to return home stay sharp as a knife.

I have just returned from possibly the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in.
The company’s review of the hotel sounded fine, and my wife and I simply wanted a base in which to explore the island, which we have visited a few times in the past. The room was small, damp with noisy air con that did not work, a balcony to small to sit in and with no view. The corridors were filthy and smelled damp with peeling paint, rotting carpets and toilets which stank. The dining room was like a works canteen from the 70s, although to be fair the food was edible but almost the same every day.
The staff were friendly enough if they caught your eye, but otherwise seemed to keep out of the way, which is not very good PR. This hotel needs to be closed down and rebuilt, or at the very least downgraded to 1* and holidaymakers informed of its condition. It will not put us off holidaying in Malta in the future, but we will fully check out the accommodation before booking the next time.
We have just returned home after...

We have just returned home after 13 nights in Malta, which is a lovely island with very friendly people, but some of the accommodation leaves a lot to be desired. We booked our holiday with Malta bargains, who booked us into
the palm court, half board after reading all the bad reviews we asked if we could be put somewhere else. They offered us the medallion court but would have to pay 80 pounds extra and drop down to self- catering.
Did I make a big mistake? We arrived outside the Howard Johnson Mediterranea hotel about 2.30 am. and asked the receptionist for the key, he took us across the road to the medallion court 3*which is run by the Mediterranea hotel 4*.
He opened the door and we were greeted by a cockroach, we were on the ground floor 3A.The furniture was dirty and tatty, the kitchen area had thick cobwebs in the corners and behind the cooker, which had an electric ring missing, the fridge was only fit for the dump, it was peeling and rusty and the door wouldn’t shut, it also had mould round the seals.
The bathroom was just as shabby and the toilet seat came off in my husband’s hand. We told the receptionist that we could not stay there ,he told us to come over to the hotel in the morning and speak to the manager.
By this time we were all very tired especially my 2yr old son who had by now kicked his shoes off and was running round exploring, luckily we noticed the nail sticking up from the floor which I assume is where the doorstop was supposed to have been.
The mattresses on the bed didn’t seem too bad, but when I pulled the pillowcases back, the pillows inside were disgusting, there were brown and yellow stains all over them one even had dried bloodstains on it. We slept on top of the beds without pillows that night.
We were woken in the morning by what i thought sounded like a jack hammer going off, went to the window and could see it was the refuse van picking up the trash which had been heaped up right outside our bedroom window.
The windows were covered with bars and the glass was so dirty I don’t think they’d ever been cleaned.
We went outside to look at the pool area, the pool was very small and dirty and the sunbeds were filthy and broken.
We went over the Mediterranea hotel to see the manager and told her the apartments are not fit to stay in, she didn’t seem very surprised as I think everyone they put there comes over to complain. I heard a couple while I was there.
she told us that we had already been upgraded to a two bedroom apartment free of charge as Malta bargains had only booked us a one bedroom for my husband ,myself our 16yr old daughter and 2yr old son. this was not our fault. she said I can offer you a two bedroom apartment at the Mediterranea for an extra charge. As we had 12 nights left she said they’d let us have the room at a discount for 120 Maltese lira which is equivalent to £200
I couldn’t go back and stay at the medallion especially with a small child so we agreed she told us the view was free of charge as this was extra. The rooms were very spacious and fairly well equipped. I would not class the rooftop pool areas as 4*as the bottom of the pools were peeling, the sunbeds had seen better days and the umbrellas were broken and kept blowing over so were eventually taken away.
The view overlooking the harbour at St. Pails Bay from our window was spectacular and the staff at the hotel very helpful.
I am very annoyed with Malta bargains after paying for a holiday that was supposed to be half board and ending up paying extra to stay somewhere clean and dropping to self-catering it can work out expensive when you haven’t budgeted for it.
How Malta bargains can put people into the medallion court and call it a holiday I don’t know, they are absolutely disgusting I wouldn’t even give them a star rating. Only one thing Malta bargains has going for them is their flights, British Jet. more leg room than on other planes much more comfortable, and quite nice meals on the planes as well .
If you are ever offered to stay at the medallion court take my advice and stay well clear!

Infact one is far too great a rating. I have never wished my holiday over so bad I cried.
My mother and myself are disabled, this is most definitely not disability friendly.
The first room, if you can call it that was on the 5th floor. The lifts were too small for a wheelchair.
After my constant insistence and perseverance we were offered two different rooms, one worse than the other.
No air conditioning, a free-standing fan that was situated in the centre room, of course it was off the centre room that the bedrooms were situated.
The drains stunk almost as much as the pool. Hence the windows could not be opened to disperse the smell in the rooms.
The majority of children who used the pool contracted ear infections, needing medical treatment.
Myself, my medication, which is vital to my mobility was to disappear.
This meant I spent 3 pain ridden days, driving around Malta searching for GP’s and then hospitals.
I find it disgusting that I have to buy plug in air fresheners, domestos and bathroom cleaner on holiday just to stop from being sick from the horrendous smell.
I am sure Malta is a beautiful country, and perhaps if I ever buck up the courage to try again, the palm court hotel would be at the other end of island.

After reading the reviews on here I was worried about going, turned up at 4am very tired straight to bed.
Breakfast next morning bleary eyed and then welcome meeting. Do not book anything with the rep, go over the road to freeways, Malta bargain reps charge a lot more believe me and they tried to con you into a timeshare, was not happy about that. Hotel location very good a few streets away is central Buggiba very nice. Food you get what you pay for, was canteen style and not great but its a cheap holiday, I mainly stuck to cooked meat and chips/salad not very healthy! Always fruit salad or a dessert to choose from. Aircon in room worked and wasn’t very noisy to be honest no complaints there.
Word of advice if you have a day trip out planned ask for packed lunch its nicer than meal at night! You don’t get your meal at night if you have packed lunch tell them dinner night before and you pick up at breakfast next day, hotel/rep wont tell you that though! Had a very enjoyable holiday but you don’t go on holiday to spend all the time at hotel anyway!!! Buses are fantastic very cheap and lets you see the whole island!

Having read some of the reviews about the Palm Court, It was with some trepidation and a little anxiety that my wife and I went on our trip, however as it had been purchased and presented to us as a gift from my youngest daughter Sharon and her husband for our Ruby wedding we were determined to enjoy it. The flight from Manchester with British Jet was excellent, the reception at the airport in Malta excellent, the reception at the Hotel, excellent.
The rooms were fairly basic but spotlessly clean. the food while again fairly basic was plentiful, varied and well cooked. The swimming pool area needed a bit of "TLC" but on the whole was pretty good. The staff were, without exception, courteous and efficient.
All in all, if what is required is a damn good holiday at a reasonable price, this is it, without doubt.

The reviews this hotel was given caused me and my family great concern, prior to travelling. We were expecting to turn up to a complete pit, but this was not the case. This holiday cost about £300 per person, half board for two weeks; about the same as I pay for two nights B & B in a good London Hotel. So let me take you on a journey describing exactly what you can expect for your £300, which by the way equates to about £10 a night after you take away the £150 for the flights. (Peak season)
Firstly there was the flight, British Jet who? The flight took off from Gatwick and as far as I was concerned matched any other package tour flights, on time and comfortable. On flight meals were not exactly to everybody’s taste, but I enjoyed mine, my wife’s and my daughters. We landed on time, collected our bags and made for the Malta Bargains rep. We had received our instructions within ten minutes of collecting our bags and were put onto a coach.
The journey to the hotel was typically Malta, unfortunately the farmers keep all their livestock in smelly sheds and spray the land with strange manure, which seems to work for them, but was not to pleasing on the nostrils.
Arrived at Palm Court, stupid o clock in the morning, where the receptionist was quick, efficient and friendly. Now this is where the "you get what you pay for" philosophy comes into it.
This hotel would certainly be pulled down if it were in the UK, but somebody in Malta decided to offer, mainly Brits, and a cheap option for staying on the beautiful island of Malta. The corridors are indeed uninviting, especially about 2:30 am and yes there is a damp smell in places. The room was very basic, about £10 a night basic, but it was functional and clean. The beds were made everyday and the towels changed as often as you want. The air conditioning mad a noise and not much else, but the ceiling fan and portable fan were sufficient. Any problem was reported to the receptionists and dealt with quite quickly. Rooms were changed on request, if you were not happy with your original. We were luck to have a room overlooking the pool.
Moving onto the restaurant, this was again basic but acceptable. The food provided was in the form of a buffet, with non-English sausages, any type of eggs you wanted and what looked like streaky bacon. There were also some cereals, toast and a sponge cake available. There was a shop opposite where you could by British cereals, milk and anything else you wanted. (Bowls were in the 1 Lira shop along Bugiba front)
If you go all inclusive, lunch was normally, burgers, hotdogs, Pizza, chips and salad. Cisk beer was free to AI or about £1 a pint to us mere half boarders. Soft drinks were about 50p. Dinner consisted of two joints, omelettes, a stew/curry and at least one fish dish. Chips were on every night along with 1 or 2 other potato choices.
The island itself was very beautiful and relaxing with plenty to do. I can personally recommend the Blue Grotto for the views and Comino(Blue Lagoon) for the swimming. The Blue Lagoon was very busy, but buy a snorkel and stay in the crystal clear waters. Mums hire a deck chair for a Lira (£1.60)
The Gozo trips were a little disappointing, unless you like very ornate churches: Certainly impressive, but not my cup of tea.
The pool was a mixture of salt and fresh water, the combination caused the water to be cloudy and deposit a slight slime at the deep end. But my family and I used it most days and no one was ever ill. You did need to impersonate the Germans and ensure towels were on the sun beds by about 8:45 am; otherwise they were few and far between during peak season.
Entertainment was very basic, with either Karaoke or dodgy local singers, but with my room being above the pool I was spoilt for a view, until about 11 o clock each night. Oh and by the way this entertainment was also included in that £10 a day you’re spending.
Holiday Reps gave a good brief on the first morning, but that was the last time I saw them. Trips were cheaper at the Melody shop (Freestar) which was less than 10 minutes away from the hotel. Walk straight out of the door and head as straight as possible until you reach the shops, turn left and you can not miss it (Near the bus terminal). The lady in there gets 10/10 for being extremely helpful and giving discounts when you book several trips at once.
One place not to miss is the water park, not as good as wet and wild but the staff round up all willing volunteers to participate in games and "line dancing" which actually took place in the wave pool. Extremely good fun to watch. Just take note that at the deep end of the wave pool has a very noisy discothèque. So go the other end if you value your ear drums!
If you choose to eat out you can get full English for between £1.50 and £2 (Huge) Most restaurants are pretty cheap, with the exception of touristy places like MacDonald’s, Pizza Hut and Chinese restaurants. However I can recommend the Great Wall of China Restaurant, same route as the Melody shop but you see it within 5 minutes. I spent the equivalent value of 6 days in the hotel on two separate meals and drinks for four people. £60 or £30 per meal. (Food was excellent).
Souvenirs are typical with the exception of some local glassware which was nice but expensive. Clothes were relatively cheap, in comparison to the UK. Cigarettes, for those that must were about £25 for 200 (Half price-ish) Booze (Imported) is very expensive: Southern Comfort is about £15 a bottle, 50% dearer than the UK.
The trip home was uneventful with everything going to plan and arriving in Gatwick about 9 o clock. Unfortunately being a cheap airline we were not given priority and ended up waiting to offload (about 21:20). This meant that by the time you collected your bags and picked your car up it was nearly 23:00 before you found the motorway.
To sum up, if you are the type that believe £10 a day should give you the Hilton then do all the non-naive and daft people a favour and stay away from Palm Court. It has the nickname "Faulty Towers" for a reason. Please allow those people with a grip of reality to chill out and not listen to the pointless whinging from those who were at the back of the brain queue. All in all, I did not stay in the hotel more than I had to; Malta was too beautiful to stay in my "basic" room. Use the hotel as a base and go out every day, even if it is only for a walk. Enjoy your holiday!!!

There are enough reviews here for you to make up your own mind about the hotel, it is BASIC and yes, you will only get what you have paid for. Our room was OK, No cockroaches, the towels are if you want, changed daily, some of ours smelt of vinegar, the sheets unfortunately are not, we was only there for one week, they were not changed once. Our TV had two movie channels on and sky news, plus some others.
You have to put a deposit on a remote control, i think 10 lira, but you do not need this, once you have worked out how to use the set controls. You are also requested to put a five lira deposit on the safe key, which cost 3.50 lira a week. We had a safe in our room, there is also a deposit on your all inclusive card of 50 cents, Take as much of your own stuff as you can, ie hair dryer, they all work from our plugs, No Shaver socket though, so take blades, everything has a deposit on and you will end up with loads of lira to bring home on the last day.
What I would like to add, which may help, is if you go all inclusive, is the beer served in the hotel is only 60 cents, that’s one English pound, in the bars around the hotel, some bars sold Stella for 90 cents, the all inclusive option is 11 to 11. I felt the hotel offered very little for kids, there were two cereals at Breakfast, Muesli and Corn Flakes that tasted like quavers, if you have room in your case, try and take your own. I thought the food was very basic but edible, not much in the way of veg, only potato or chips, had cabbage one night. Salad was limited as well. Again must point out, you are only paying very little for this hotel compared to others.
The all inclusive option also gives you a lunch, normally served around the pool, but you can go into the restaurant if you want. Burgers, hot dogs and chips, pizza, salad, sometimes spare ribs. For us the all inclusive option was a waste of money, it cost us an extra £8 each a day, I like a drink as does my wife, but the beer, Called "Cisk" was very gassy pee water, the spirits are served as at home, singles, and are no where near as strong. Foreign brands are not included and are a lot dearer.
I felt I would have been better off saving the £16 a day and having a drink out more often. I would advise you check this, I think you can upgrade to all inclusive once you are there, if you feel it is worth it. Saw quite a few people complain and change hotels, obviously did not read reviews here. Hope this helps.

If you are going to whine that the bacon is not the same as at home , or that the chips are not like you get in the chippy, or that things smell a little when the temperature outside is nudging 100 degrees farenheight . Or that the Hotel was full of people on a budget enjoying themselves. Do everyone and yourself a favour and either stay at home( because you spoil everyone else’s enjoyment with your pathetic little whimpering) or dig a little deeper into your pockets and pay for the 5 star hotel you are obviously expecting. We had read some of the reviews that people have left about this Hotel and were more than a little worried about what we going to find. But we went with the attitude that a lot of people on here seem to have, in that you get what you pay for ! but we didn’t we got a lot more than the equivalent of £40 a day incl flights in the school holidays .
Every Morning there was a full English Breakfast with a choice of three different types of eggs, sausages, beans and lightly smoked bacon , the toaster takes no longer than a normal household one , if that is not to your liking there is a choice of two cereals or continental breakfast. Lunch was served by the pool most days again there was a choice which was limited to either burger, hotdog, fish or pizza and chips or salad, if that was not to your liking there was a constantly full fridge with fresh sandwiches which you could help yourself to all day.
Dinner had a minimum of five choices of main meals which included two roast meats freshly carved for you, one fish dish along with veg omelettes and salads , A choice of two starters usually one soup and a pasta dish, Afters were a fresh fruit salad or Ice cream or cake . All of which were cooked well we had no complaints and sometimes went back for a second plateful. We have been on all inclusive holidays at twice the price and had to pay for drinks at meal times ! not here . The room had everything we needed a bed, shower, wardrobe, draws, free air conditioning ( we have paid up to £25 a week for air con in other hotels) a ceiling fan, toilet, television balcony and daily maid service I think the sheets were changed twice in a week the towels every day if required . I only had to complain once and that was because the syrup had run out in the drink dispenser on the bar so my son got soda water instead of seven up but this was sorted as soon as I brought it to the Barman’s attention. All in all I was most pleased and think I definitely got a Malta Bargain .

I booked a holiday as a late deal to this hotel. I was told by Malta Bargains it was a hotel for couples, was quiet clean and friendly. They lied to me.
I changed rooms three times. All had cockroaches in, the hotel and pool area smelt of sewage and mould was covering walls in the rooms. the balcony was covered in cigarette butts (we do not smoke). There was noise until 4 in the morning and at 8am every day the cleaners shouted each other along the corridor.
I would not call what is served in the canteen food. The “dining room” was hot, smelly and dirty. Most plates and cutlery had the last person’s meal still on them. When my husband asked for clean cutlery in the canteen he was spoken to abruptly.
Hiring a safe is a must in this hotel, but the safe room smells of rotten vegetable. you can barely stay in there.
The pool was cloudy and you could not see the bottom. The reps meeting held by Malta Bargains encouraged people to go to time share meetings and were told it was not this. The sheets on the bed where not changed, just swapped with the other bed in the room.
When my husband and myself complained to reception they laughed at us, we obviously did not find it funny. The bathroom was damp constantly as where the apparently “fresh” towels. The doorframes had gaps in them, as did under the toilet where the cockroaches came out. There was mould everywhere in the bathroom. Myself and my husband feel more ill now than ever and believe that conditions in the hotel may be the cause.
Although Malta Bargains offer a warm welcome, the staff were not welcoming at all. You will probably never wish to return to Malta if you stay at this hotel.

THE PALM COURT HOTEL IS REALLY A COUNCIL ESTATE IN THE SUN-- Full of the people you see shopping in Morrisons supermarket getting their buy 1 get 1 free offers and smoking 40+ fags a day polluting my lungs and making my hair smell (yuk, but did I complain about you by the pool puffing your cancer fumes in the air..no).
I have been 3 times in 6 years just for a real cheap get away holiday and really cannot see how people complain for the price they pay. The only complaint is the other British holiday makers, beer bellies, hairy armpits, tattoos, foul mouth smoking and that’s just the women, and if your over 45yrs old ladies please keep your tops on when sunbathing..... I have been in worse hotels in England and paid more -yes the rooms are very basic but you only sleep in them -the food is ok but there are loads of other places to eat.
For an all-inclusive package which allows you to drink for 12 hours (inc crisps and ice cream, sandwiches)without getting your wallet out what do you want. I found the staff very helpful and polite--the pool is good but has no lifeguards so watch the kids----go with an open mind --get out everyday and see the sights of Malta--lovely sunshine and locals at a bargain price ---relax and STOP COMPLAINING YOUR ON HOLIDAY!!!!
ps. stay away from the guys trying to get you to use other hotels facilities with offers of free holidays and prizes etc it just a big scam.

I too read the reviews and wondered what I was going into. But myself and a friend wanted a cheap and cheerful holiday and this was just what we got.
Flights were brilliant, on time and my friend got her vegetarian in flight meal with no problems (going and coming). Yes, the hotel is basic, but what do you expect for 200 quid at the height of the season. The service was efficient, the rooms were clean and basic and the food offered an adequate selection and was always hot. The pool did smell very strongly of chlorine but the sea is only a 5 minute walk away. Okay there are no sandy beaches in Qawra but there are ladders down to the very clear warm sea and no sand to get everywhere!
I can't understand the people that complain. The only thing I could have complained about was the paint in our bath was coming off but I have stayed in worse b&bs in England. As many of your other reviewers have stated I did not go on holiday to spend a week in a hotel. It was merely a base so we could get out and explore the wonderful country that is Malta.

As we entered the hotel after reading the reports our first thoughts was ok. we got our key and walked towards our room which was on the first floor as we reached the room the door was larger then the rest and so we thought we was getting one of the largest room instead one of the smallest rooms with a fire escape door. The smell from the air conditioning was disgusting we went out to the balcony but couldn’t see anything for weeds that was taller than us both. We had booked a double room but instead received a twin.
As we walked up the corridor to complain the smell from tea was unbearable we told the reception our problems and wished to be moved rooms the receptionist told us there was no spare rooms until the following morning so to return then we agreed and went to tea. We heard a bloke talking he said he had the same problem and demanded a move in rooms or to move to there 5* hotel in which they wouldn’t move him hotels so he got a room exchange straight away. we went up to reception again with the same complaints and asked for a room change or a hotel change to our surprise in 15 mins they had a spare room so we moved to our double room on the top floor with sea view great we thought. 4 days later we received a letter through our door it read
"you will be billed for the use of fire extinguisher at a price of 35 lm which is the same as £60 plus any extra charge due to damage in room thanks hotel manager" what was going on? We didn’t have a clue about any fire extinguisher but was forced to pay the fine. the next morning we received a letter from the room below us that read "can you please stop flicking ash over the balcony as it is marking all our clothes" so we started smoking in our room to prevent any more letters, but that evening we went on to our balcony to find little balls of black dirt in which had stained all our clothes we then realised this was what was staining the clothes on the balcony below us. we went down to reception and told them about the stains which seemed to be coming from the roof as we was the top floor the receptionist and manager both tried telling us the little black balls of dirt fall from the sky (it was normal) yeh pigs fly too. so we left that problem too as there was know way they was taking blame. bargain holiday maybe but for us it would have been cheaper to stay at home.
the place was a like a rat run the hotel needs knocking down and building again and the staff need to do a business management course
the food was shocking we only ate in once then found a nice pizza and pasta place we spent the rest of the week eating there
we certainly got our moneys worth from all inclusive drinks though.

It seems to me that the people who complained about the Palm Court need to understand that they can see a whole country in a week and not go on holiday to live in the hotel, who actually went there to buy the Palm Court? Because I'm afraid alot of people are speaking like they did, its for a week not a lifetime!
How many of the people who have complained are people that never saw out of the 4 walls of the hotel, I think 99%.
If the food was so bad and the hotel so awful, why spend all day there when you can hop on a bus, see the sights and swim in the beautiful clear ocean?
The food was nothing special, but there were many choices and if it was SO bad, why did we have to fight to get a table some nights? Yes the toaster was slow but wouldn’t you rather have hot toast than some that had been sat there for 2 hours?
And I'm afraid to say that half the complaints were nothing to do with the hotel, it was the disgusting behaviour of the 'Brits Abroad' that were staying there. It wasn’t the staff who were leaving empty beer cans on the stairs or slamming doors at 4am was it? When we came into contact with the staff they were more than helpful, and efficient so no complaints there.
All in all, yes it could do with a lick of paint but couldn’t the vast majority of people say that about their houses? And to all the people who have been and hated it, don’t be such cheap skates and spend a bit more if you want luxury and for the people who haven’t been yet, make up your own mind when you get there, we’d go again and have no real complaints and alot of the people who we spoke to said the same. At the end of the day alot of people are very quick to say what’s wrong with something but never to say that it was ok.
We arrived at the hotel and was...

The rooms were smelly and dirty and the sheets were ripped the fan was hanging off the ceiling we opened the balcony door and it then would not lock or shut. We went for our evening meal and it was like sitting in a dungeon and it was red hot no air conditioning or windows and the food was even worse the mashed potatoes were green.
The breakfasts were terrible bacon was not cooked orange juice had no taste i think stopping in a prison would be better than this. For the rest of the holiday we ate out. On the island this hotel is known as Fawlty Towers. Malta itself is lovely and cheap. If anybody has booked for this hotel I would strongly advise them to cancel. We got up one morning and on the stairs was a used condom and empty beer cans.
