We arrived at the hotel, yes hotel on the 13th August at 1.30am. The reception staff were polite even though they were extremely overworked.

We were directed to our room, only concern on arriving at the room was that it was directly opposite the lift (which I must add was taken over by the cleaning staff all day, so you could wait anything up to ten minutes for the lift at any one time).

My concern about being opposite the lift were founded on about 3 occasions, where English tourists coming in at 2-3am decided to have fights and rows in the corridors.

The room itself was clean and tidy with all facilities working, also had a balcony which overlooked the man street. We never came across any cockroaches, although I was prepared for them after reading this site! Room was cleaned daily, beds made and new towels if you required them.

That morning (yes at 2am) we visited a local bar (Goodfellas, 100 yards away) and were greeted by a very friendly guy who upon asking informed us that the bar closed when the last people went, fantastic!

With the bar being so close and friendly we never managed to get down to breakfast, (for obvious reasons) though we found a fantastic café by the bus station (Knickerbocker), staff were extremely polite and served you at your tables.

We ventured into the 'restaurant' that night and were disgusted, there was no air conditioning, no windows and resembled a cattle market, food was just about bearable, although must admit we only ate there on 3 occasions as the food at the local restaurants was so cheap.

If it weren't for some of the other English tourists our stay would have been brilliant, after paying around £200 for a weeks holiday, they seemed to be expecting the Ritz!!! But I would not compare Palm Court to Fawlty Towers at all.

I would also recommend eating at Central Perk (100 yards from the bus station), Barbara, the owner was a fantastically patient woman who regularly came out to make sure you were ok. Also Angelo, the fruit and veg man opposite Central Perk, poor guy stood out there for about 10 hours a day and barely served more than 10 people, but after the initial meeting part (just received a nod!) he took to coming and sitting with us and discussing his life.

I would definitely come to Malta again, and yes stay at the Palm Court, after all for the money we paid, I was more than happy that I had a clean bed to sleep in and a shower to wash in, what else could you possibly need, or expect for that matter, for that price?

I read the revues of this hotel...

I read the revues of this hotel before I went. But after I booked and paid for it.

You will not be disappointed.

The corridors smell of foostie rubbish.

The dining area is so hot it is unbearable.

The reception staff are very ignorant.

Our toilet cistern overflowed twice in the week I have not yet seen any maintenance people to come to the room to check it out.

My sister and brother in law were in the room next door. (They only got the one cockroach.) We never had any.

But on the plus side:-

You get what you pay for.

We had a clean bed and the air conditioning worked well. And if you go armed with cockroach spray, bottle of bleach, antibacterial wipes you cant go wrong.

The hotel is quite near the main thoroughfare and there are plenty nice little air conditioned restaurants only 5 mins walk away.

Arrived at the Palm Court Hotel...

Arrived at the Palm Court Hotel on the 4th August, looked alright from the outside, won't say that again.

Booked in at reception, there was about 15 of us staying at the hotel so it took a bit of time what with everyone else booking in as well; we were given our keys and in around about way told to get on with it.

Finally found our room, sorry the Hostel, where we would be staying for the week. It was awful! By this point tears were rolling down my face thinking I want to go home.

Went down to the Sauna (The restaurant) where the food was VERY BASIC, there wasn’t much choice, no notification of what we were eating, for all we knew we could have been eating the local cat!

The only good thing about the hotel was the pool and the sunloungers!

People said that the hotel reminded them of Fawlty Towers.. well I would rather stay at Fawlty Towers with Basil Fawlty than stay at the Palm Court again.

The staff were very ignorant; you had to go to the reception when you wanted a drink or something to eat to get a receipt then take that to the bar where the staff would snatch it off of you, give you what you wanted and moved on to the next person... no manners at all!

Apart from the Palm Court hotel, Malta is fantastic, the people are very friendly and make you feel welcome!

I only had a good time because I was with my family and we made our own entertainment!

I would recommend Malta but never the Palm Court, I bet you get better treatment in Prison!

This was without doubt the worse...

This was without doubt the worse hotel I have stayed in.

The rooms stunk and no room seemed to have all facilities working, you had to choose which you needed the most. I was lucky my toilet worked for the week I stayed there.

Each and every customer had their own story and when the new people arrived it was worth staying in the reception, as you knew within a very short time the complaints began, and so did the shouting and screaming, of which the staff could not have cared less.

I did try and book another hotel but being in August everywhere was booked.

Still I did see things that I have never seen before, for example, the cockroaches were so big you didn't need donkey rides and some of the murals on the walls were done in blood, I think it was human blood.

The food was so bad and the dining room so hot I never had a meal in there so it was pointless paying half board.

I have come back with a chest infection which again I am told is common as my air con did work in fits and starts, and that seems to be the culprit.

I am pleased that I had no young children because none of the entertainment that is advertised exists and the pool had condoms and pubic hair.

All in all it was one of worst times away ever, which is a shame because this hotel does not reflect the beauty of Malta.

I will go back too Malta but even if someone paid me I would never step foot back into that Hell hole.

I have to say this is the worst...

I have to say this is the worst holiday I have ever been on. I was dubious about all the negative reviews I’d read after we booked, but never the less I went with an open mind and thought 'it can’t be so bad'.

How wrong I was!

On arrival at the airport we were ushered along, not welcomed, and our cases were thrown in the back of a lorry for the journey to the hotel. We weren't welcomed aboard or told how long our journey would be etc.

We arrived at the hotel to find our cases had been off loaded and left on the road, unattended.

As we entered the shabby looking reception area we were greeted by other guests saying 'welcome to faulty towers' 'here come some more victims' 'hope you bought your diarrhoea tablets, you'll need them'.

Our room was clean but our bathroom was filthy. We had no air con and were told there were no rooms available with it.

The pool was disgusting! We didn’t dare go in it. It had a condom in it one day as we passed. The pool area is also surrounded by wild cats that eat scraps that are left in the bushes and never cleared up.

The food outside BBQ, salad and pizza had flies over it which was never covered.

The food in the main dining area was revolting. I only ate for a couple of days and then I had diarrhoea for the rest of the holiday and for 10 days after I got home.

Don't book the excursions. They are not your usual air con coaches that take you out, you’re crammed in a filthy mini bus, no air con, and if you’re sat at the back you have no idea what the tour guide is pointing out to the group, as the microphone system didn’t work.

We complained and complained but got nowhere. On return, we noticed that the head office was close to where we live so we went to complain at the office it’s self.

I would never ever go again!

My honest opinion is if you don’t spend very much time in the hotel, you will be all right.

The room was clean, and we did get clean towels every day. However, the bathroom was poor, I really hated showering as the shower was connected to the taps, and had low water pressure.

The hotel is run down, but you have to remember that for the price paid, you cannot expect it to be in brilliant condition.

The staff were hardworking and always busy. A lot of people complained about them being rude etc but I found if you were polite to them they were to you.

The chef would stand and cut the meat every night and there was always a good selection of food, and tasty puddings. Breakfast was a typical English, which most people seemed to be happy to eat.

The pool area is old, but that didn’t seem to deter people from sunbathing around it, or children playing in the pool.

My advice is if you can pay for better do so, if you have booked and are worried I would say stay with it, it’s not the end of the world, or faulty towers as people like to call it. You are going to see Malta not the hotel.

The Maltese people are brilliant, very friendly, and helpful, it is a beautiful island and somewhere you will want to return to.

Had a great time, but was very disappointed with the food!

The restaurant was shabby and tables were unclean. Felt more like a roadside cafe on a lay-by on the M1.

The swimming pool was okay, big, very deep. And there was a smaller pool for children.

Free sun beds but you will have to get up early to bag one, just get up around 5 chuck a few towels on a few beds and go back to bed and your sorted!

Entertainment was great but awful at the same time! Pure tackiness, but whatever floats your boat. We had a laugh that’s for sure!

People were friendly and if there is a problem, they are quite willing to help solve the problem.

Also an indoor swimming pool, beyond a washing room.

Rooms were cleaned everyday, no beans on the wall which was a plus side to the holiday!

Have now been twice to that hotel, not the best but wasn’t a bad holiday!

If you don’t mind a little tack, a bit of shabbiness and some dodgy food then this ones defiantly for you! Pure class!

We arrived in Malta on the 25th of July in the early mornings and were giving 3 twin rooms on the ground floor. As we got in our rooms we found out that we had a view of the hotel yard. The rooms were very smelly and dirty so we weren’t happy and complained about it we asked if we could move rooms they told us to wait till morning and ask rep.

The next morning we all got moved up to the 5th floor which is a lot better but still not very clean. A few days later the maids had been in to clean the rooms and had never left any bath towels so we had to go down to reception and ask for some and we were told there wasn’t any left until the next day, so we weren’t happy about that and we told them we need them now for to dry our self’s after showering they told us they can't do anything so we asked to speak to the manager and the next thing she asked us how many towels we needed.

We were told the hotel was a family hotel but they don't have any entertainment for children and they only have a small games room which isn’t up to much.

We also found out that there isn’t a roof top pool which was advertised on the internet. They also have an indoor pool which is very dirty and has missing tiles on the bottom of the pool.

One night we went out for a walk about the resort and when we came back to our room we found out that our toilet was leaking so we had to go down to reception and report it and they told us someone would come up to fix it .

When the person came up he just turned off the water and said it would get fixed in the morning we told him it couldn’t as we wouldn’t be able to go to the toilet but he never done anything till morning.

When we arrived we were giving a wrist band and a card which we had to pay a deposit of 50 cent we didn’t no what the wristband was for as we had a card as well.

When we wanted a drink or snack we had to ask for it at reception then they gave you a receipt then you had to go to the bar which was busy. When more people arrive and you are wanting a drink you have got to wait till they are booked in.

Whilst we were sunbathing someone jumped in the pool as he thought it was shallow which it wasn’t and he nearly drowned but someone noticed and saved him as there is no lifeguard in the hotel.

Over all this hotel doesn’t care for children or young families.

If anyone is thinking of coming here I would think again it is ok if you are only going for a week and half board but not for two weeks all inclusive.

Very basic hotel with helpful staff. Meals are simple, plenty of food if you like it. Taste a little bland!

Rooms cleaned daily but fairly late in the day. Also they clean on your day of departure before you book out.

Fairly ok for price paid and would return if in a desperate position.

Rooms either have a generator working throughout night or disturbing when at front due to noise of other guests. Restaurant staff (on restaurant reception) not very friendly however all waiters acknowledge you and clear away very quickly.

No entertainment experienced but was available daily.

Travel Reps talk too quickly and rabbit on. Much better to go around on own steam as local buses very close and cheap.

Beautiful place to visit and overall hotel fine for a base and somewhere to sleep.

You get what you pay for!! Upon stepping of the bus at the hotel, my face dropped and dropped even further still when we walked into Palm Court.

A shabby reception area along with dark, dingy and musty carpets and corridors. We had asked for a room with 3 single beds and were given a room with a double bed and 1 single bed with a bathroom that was abmisal.

The sheets on the beds were grey and smelt and the towels were thread bare. For the price we paid, (£250 All Inclusive, 7 nights) I had not expected the Ritz, but I was certainly not prepared for Palm Court Hotel.

As it turned out, we were moved to their sister hotel Venus (2 mins walk away) which was defiantly of a better standard, but did not have any air conditioning. We did however have to take our meals in Palm Court. The dining area is downstairs in the cellar of the hotel, which was exceeding hot and smelly.

The food was 'typical English' and swimming in fat with no choice for vegetarians. There was no fresh fruit at all, and the salads had a lot to be desired. Some of the plates and cutlery were not as clean as what they should have been.

Some staff were friendly and helpful, others weren't and we never ventured near the hotel's swimming pool which looked like a death trap and was filthy.

Despite all of the above, we did manage to have a good holiday and I would most certainly go back to Malta, just not to Palm Court Hotel.

Do not come here!

I have to admit when I first came here it was nice... then I went through the doors. All I could smell was dead fish and cannabis.

I was in one of the biggest rooms in the hotel and to be honest it was like living in the manager's pocket. I bought a chocolate bar and put it in a drawer while the cleaner was sorting out my room. I left the room and later that day it was gone! It’s not on and I was tempted to sue.

The food was abysmal and I reckon that dog poo would taste nicer than that. The first night we got there, all there was fish and bread. No choice for the vegetarians.

The showers were broken and the water looked like urine. It leaked and sprayed all over the floor and I almost slipped and broke my neck. The balconies were unsafe and not protective and the door leading out to it was jammed shut.

As an overall rating I’d give it a quarter of a star.

We stayed at the Palm Court Hotel in June. We booked for one week through Maltabragains.com.

Like many people , I had read the reviews & reports beforehand and was to say a little ‘concerned’ and ‘dubious’ at what to expect.

However, I can say that we had a brilliant time! The flight was great-infact I’ve travelled with many airlines (including British Airways) and I must say that Britishjet.com they were just as good!

The Palm Court Hotel- OK it’s not exactly 5 star-but we paid £200 for the week and we thought it was great value for money!

Our rooms were cleaned every day , the staff were pleasant , the swimming pool was great (we noticed that the area was washed down each morning & evening) and the buffet style food excellent (both breakfast & evening meal). It was cooked well and there was a good selection.

The hotel is well situated & centrally located and has good amenities for a 3 star hotel.

Infact, we enjoyed it that much we are in the process of booking up to go back! We also talked to several people during the week and who had been there several times.

OK- there are some ‘tatty’ parts of the hotel , and yes the carpets in some of the corridors are a bit grubby in areas…but we never experienced any of the ‘foul smells’ ‘loose taps’, ‘poor food’ , ‘dirty pool’ etc etc that people are winging about!

Basically, let’s put it in perspective… If you are using the Palm Court Hotel as a good base and going out to enjoy Malta most of the day , with somewhere central to stay, sleep & eat etc then it’s ideal.

If the you spend most of the day at the hotel and like a bit of luxury then it’s not for you…firstly there are other more luxurious ‘5star’ hotels on the island to stay in , secondly- get a life!! There’s more to do in Malta than sitting in the hotel room all day!

The Palm Court Hotel is excellent value for money! If you want extra- then like everything in life it comes at a cost!

I cannot understand people who pay for a budget holiday and expect a 5 star hotel!

When you pay £200 (or less) for a week in Malta what do they expect?

The hotel is close to the sea front, bars restaurants, cafe's and bus terminus.

Food in the hotel is plentiful: breakfast being full English, lunch meat veg salad etc, evening meal, carvery, salad etc.

The rooms are basic but cleaned daily & towels changed if requested, our room was quite large for 3 people. The bathroom is the problem ( these need an update with air conditioning to ventilate the steam from the shower).

The pool area could do with a lick of paint, but plenty of sunbeds.

The system for the drinks works well once you have tried it a few times.

The kids get free ice cream.

The snacks consist of crisps and sandwiches which are available from 8am - midnight.

Other than the bathroom is was value for money £250 each for 1 week all inclusive, it’s like life you get what you pay for.!

Anyway going again in sept 2007.
