" We spent our honeymoon here 2 years... "

We spent our honeymoon here 2 years ago. I have been to several hotels in Greece and Spain and none even came close to this hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel.

It was quiet and relaxing, such a good choice of food. The boiled eggs made us smile - boiled for 3 minutes or for 5! The staff were very helpful and cases taken to our room for us. Our room was to be ready for us at 2pm (we knew this when we booked the hols) it was available over 3 hours before so really good service.

The only entertainment was a Greek night and a party on Saturday, but from other Greek hols usually eating out is the social aspect of the evening. There is a bus that takes you to the main bus depot on the island but only once a day. But trips out you can book of course.

Only negative thing to say is the resort is some ways from the other resorts and without a car it was isolated.

" My girlfriend and I have just... "

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a week at St. George staying in the Palm Beach Hotel. We had a fantastic holiday and would definitely return.

The hotel and pool were both very clean, rooms were cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels provided. The only real thing that lets this hotel down is the food, however there were plenty of restaurants to eat out at which were all reasonably priced... especially the Balcony restaurant, food there was beautiful and the staff were spot on. For a good breakfast I would recommend Panorama.

We found that there was very little entertainment provided by the hotel but with so many good quality bars close by we didn’t mind.

If you are considering staying at Palm Beach hotel keep the following points... niggles in mind:

- food... not so clever
- hotel entertainment practically non-existent
- the after care wasn’t good, check out is at 12 noon and wait around until 1am the next morning for our coach to the airport which was an inconvenience really as we were told a few days into our holiday that we could keep our room until we left at an added cost, but then told (by the same woman!) it was impossible the day before due to it being fully booked! We were however allowed to book the 'hospitality room' (free of charge) for half an hour for a shower. we also had to leave (or choose to cart around with us all day) our luggage in reception which was 'supposed' to manned 24 hours a day but on occasion wasn’t.

Please don’t let these minor negatives put you off as the hotel itself and resort were set in beautiful surroundings and we will be going back the St George again, just bear them in mind and plan well.

" Upon checking in we were required to... "

Upon checking in we were required to pay 20 euro deposit for 2 remote controls, given a map and shown which direction to walk to our hotel room with our bags. We trundled round the complex to find that we had been placed in the first part of this complex not shown in any brochure pictures. We then had to lug our bags up the stairs.

To our surprise when we entered the room it had a cooker and kitchen utensils obviously for those going self catering; the extractor fan was on the opposite side of the kitchen worktop to the cooker. We were glad of the tea/coffee making facilities, plates, glasses etc the following morning. I read the manual in the room and to my horror it was requested that all families with children under the age of 14 were to have dinner before 7.30pm. We went to dinner at 7.00pm to find out that the food was tasteless and then at 7.30 a siren/alarm bell goes off to warn you to vacate the dining hall, which is very impersonal and huge as it has to cater for 1000 people! This is also the only facility that offers you the facility to charge something to your room.

Beds were hard, sheets very strange, view from balcony was overlooking back of hotel and the next farm. Gardens left to do what they want and very shabby looking. After dinner shock horror the evening entertainment from Thomson’s started; it goes on until 11.30pm every night. They place every person it seemed with children in the building that overlooks the entertainment section by the pool, this was not pleasant. I did not realise that we had booked this.

Next morning went for breakfast, no plates, very little food left at 9.30, when plates arrived 20 mins later, even less food available, no cups, no tea, and no cutlery. We therefore did not eat breakfast or evening meal again in so called HOTEL. We complained and were told there were over 1,000 guests and the staff did try to help but were too busy.

Pool was pleasant but each morning started with Thomson’s entertainment Aqua aerobics, loud music, games etc for kids and adults. The pool in the brochure is obviously for our other European guests and was always packed and towels put out late at night to hog the sunbeds. That pool was also alot warmer. Supermarket was good and stocked with all items you need and so are the others out on the street.

The walk to the beach is further than 20 metres away and you also have to pay for sunbeds and umbrella; 3 beds 1 parasol - 9 euros. Found some good restaurants and bad. Met some nice people and went to dinner with them outside the complex each night. Hired a car for 2 days and saw the rest of the island.

Will not be visiting again and would not rate it 4 stars. I have travelled alot and took a gamble with a late booking which did not pay off and did not meet my expectations. I do not want to be told when to eat, that I cannot charge anything to my room and I do not want to have to listen to entertainment every night outside my room. A note was put through our door the night before leaving asking us to settle our bill of 8.50 Euros, we told them they could deduct from the 20 euro deposit they were holding. We tried to discuss our concerns with the receptionist but basically they were not interested. Will be writing to Argo and Medlife for their misrepresentation of the holiday.

" Me & my girlfriend arrived at... "

Me & my girlfriend arrived at 2.30am on a Monday morning, extremely tired. When we got to Corfu Plaza reception to check in, there was only one guy working there and between around 30 people we all had to wait in a single file queue to get our room keys which took us around 30 minutes!
When we were finally given our keys we were given a map which made absolutely no sense to anyone that was in this queue. The buildings were however numbered and after 20 minutes of carrying heavy luggage about, we found our building.

The air conditioning remote we were given didn't work and by 5.30am I still couldn't sleep and at 6am decided to give up trying to sleep this night and just catch up the next night.

I got up to have a wash and couldn't believe what I was looking at in the mirror! The were huge mosquito bites all over me. 13 to be precise in just a few hours (obviously not the hotels fault). After having a shower, I found myself able to hide underneath the bed sheets from the mozzie's and actually get some sleep after all!

From here onwards the holiday could only get better...... and it did. The hotel was as promised a stones throw from the beach, although we only spent 1 day on the beach as it wasn't the cleanest I had been on. We pretty much sunbathed through the day around the pool most days, but there was quite a bit to do, so make sure you bring some extra spending money if you fancy going to the water park (which was surprisingly clean) or any other excursions.

The bars at night were quite friendly, all with one or 2 English girls working as waitresses and coming around to your tables to collect your orders. They would stay open pretty much until everyone had finished drinking, so you're never in a rush!

Most also have pool tables and/or arcade games to play to keep you busy throughout the night. They were all very quiet though, so if you’re going out to have a lively night, this is not the resort for you! However if you are going, Kavos is only a 20 minute journey from St George and is allot more exciting with it's nightlife. It cost us about 20 Euros each way, so depending how many split the fare, it's not too bad.

The food in the buffet hall was ok, though not the best. Although I'd like to point out that although as the other user says it reminded him of being in holiday camp, he clearly has an overactive imagination. The hall was nice, and the food was ok. And yes you do have to queue up for your food. But this is what happens in any half board / all inclusive restaurants.

Overall, we left St George pretty pleased with our choice of destination. There wasn't much to persuade me to ever go back there again though as it didn't stamp itself on me.

" We booked this holiday 3 days before... "

We booked this holiday 3 days before flying out so although we read some of the comments we thought we would give it a try.

The hotel itself was lovely. The rooms were very large with queen beds and all the usual
mod cons. The pool area was excellent with ample beds and umbrellas. The water was clean and warm. We didn't have to get up at silly o'clock to try and find a bed.

The beach was nice and clean, again plenty of beds and not too crowded, very safe for the kids.

The resort area was small but we found a few bars that were cheap and the staff were friendly.

All in all we had a great time and it was brill to be able to keep our room on for a small fee until we left at 1am.

Of course in our opinion there were down sides as well.

Food - Very boring, not that hot, limited choice. For a 4+ star I would expect the main evening meal to be a bit more adventurous than fish fingers!! The breakfast was the same everyday again luke warm.

The room service - We didn't get clean towels unless we asked for them and the sheets weren't changed at all during our week.

The taxi dropped us off on arrival at 3.30am (well I think he was a taxi driver, that or Michael Shchumaker) it was pitch dark and our room was a good 10 to 15mins walk away down little paths with no lighting. With 2 kids, 4 cases this turned into a bit of a nightmare but with a map (which we couldn't see) and lots of patience we eventually found it. Least we had a room near the restaurant which for other guests could have been a fair old walk for every meal.

We would say though, if this hotel could improve on some of the the small points it would be a perfect holiday. At the minute its definitely no-more than a 3 star.

We would visit Corfu again and if the food improved we would come back here as we did really enjoy it.

" We had a great holiday on Corfu. The... "

We had a great holiday on Corfu. The weather and the sea are beautiful.

You have to pay to use the beach chairs though which was a bit annoying and added up over the week. The men walking up and down selling doughnuts and shouting about it were also shattering the peace and quiet.

The hotel room was OK, and was clean and spacious. Balcony was small and bland but perfectly pleasant - we didn't need to use it for more than hanging out our towels but if we had been the kind of travellers that wanted to spend time on the balcony of an evening it wouldn't have been impressive.

Food was OK. Decent selection of OK food. Wine was disgusting - tried the entire selection and they were all like vinegar. Stick to beer or cocktails.

The pool bar had smelly drains and tacky music with overpriced snacks and food at a mediocre standard.

I wouldn't consider this 4 star by any stretch of the imagination. It is big and clean but basic. 3 star is more like it.

If you are an easy going couple looking to get a tan and hang out for a week on a budget then this is a cheap and cheerful bit of fun in the sun. Enjoy it and don't expect too much.

" This is the fourth time I’ve been... "

This is the fourth time I’ve been to St George and this year decided to get married there due to its friendly atmosphere and gorgeous views.

We stayed in Palm Beach as this hotel is supposed to be the best money can but in this resort, and to a certain extent it is. Previously we've stayed in Lithikos, Lords Complex and some private apartments called Qua Sarah.

The comment about the white van man is correct, but they've upgraded to yellow this season and if you have a sense of humour it is quite a funny experience.

The buildings aren’t numbered but it doesn’t require a rocket scientist cause the map isn't hard to work out, three buildings each side with the sea and pool also illustrated on the map. They circle the correct house in reception and off you go, oh air conditioning and television controls need a 20 euro deposit.

The pool is excellent no shortage of sun beds or parasols, the pool is cleaned every morning and to be honest we were still swimming at 7 at night and 8.30 in the morn with no trouble so the comment before were it shuts at 6 is now no longer enforced.

The supermarket on site is the cheapest in the resort now, with a small bottle of water being only 0.30 cents and everything else very responsible.

I do warn you not to use the pool bar. I've never been so glad to have a German push in front of my at the bar, suffering from a hangover and couldn't be bothered with any fuss, she ordered a Frappe (Cold Coffee) which is about one teaspoon of coffee, half bottle of water and two ice cubes..... 5 Euros...£3.20... Ha ha... I did smile as I walked away.

Everything in the bar is expensive, sandwiches 3 euro compared to 1 at the supermarket, beer 3 Euros, and you can get a four pack for that at supermarket... So please be careful.

The resort it's self is fantastic, quite bars, loud bars, lovely restaurants and little snack shops... The bars will stay open as long as you want, providing your drinking which could be fatal, I few times we got back as the cleaners were starting the pool area.

So if you do think of going I would recommend it, just don’t think most expensive is best... Lords complex, Lithikos and Blue Diamond are all fantastic places and cost half the price of Palm Beach.

I will be going next year again, along with the other 30+ that go out ever year.

James.

" I went with my son out of season and... "

I went with my son out of season and found the evening entertainment in the complex to be pretty dull. And aimed at very young children.

The hotel room was very nice. The food was not very interesting for either of us particularly for me as I am vegetarian. We ate out every day and would not go half board here again. The complex is large and spread out and I think next time I would opt for a smaller hotel.

The pools are beautiful and so was the beach which is 2 minutes away. The staff were helpful and friendly.

" We stayed at the Palm Beach and like... "

We stayed at the Palm Beach and like others were amused by the man in white van. Extremely practical. The room was wonderful especially for Greek Hotels. Lovely big beds, ideal for when you have sunbathed too long. Wonderful big bathroom, it was nice to have a bath.

The pool though shabby was a welcome relief after basking in the sun and it was wonderful to be able to step straight onto the beach. We left our towels on the beds and wandered up the town for a Giros most days without a worry. Wonderful beach, plenty of space a little choppy and no use for snorkeling. The town was a pleasant surprise with lost of bars.

Didn't find an exceptional restaurant, but yes as the food does get somewhat boring on the hotel it was good to eat out. I must add though after spending many weeks in hotels through my profession all hotel food gets boring after a period of time. It was warm always plentiful and did the job.

We actually liked this hotel and resort so much that we have rebooked and are returning to Palm Beach once again this June to bask in the 40 degree heat, spot the frogs and dodge the midges.

What a wonderful place to spend the build up to the world cup, Germany v England in the final!

" We arrived at the main reception... "

We arrived at the main reception (24Hrs) situated at the entrance to the Corfu Plaza (this is the self catering part of the complex), when low and behold we met the famous “white van”. As stated by others it is tatty but nice that the man with the van took our luggage to our hotel room for us. Unfortunately we had difficulty in locating our room as following a rough map we tried to locate the building - none of the buildings are numbered!

The restaurant is housed in a separate building and made me think of the days when I was a child going across to the dinner hall at the holiday camp! All meals are buffet style and whilst breakfast had a selection of continental and British food, it was the same every single day! The dinner buffet was usually luke warm and the variety non existent, we managed to fill up on bread rolls etc, but we didn’t have a proper meal all week.

The staff were pleasant and friendly but there were not enough staff to cater for the numbers of people in the restaurant.

Our hotel room was of a good size with two queen size beds, a fridge, TV with 3 channels - 2 German and CNN - what we don’t know about hurricane Rita is not worth knowing! and balcony with a side sea view which was lovely. The bathroom had a full size bath and powerful shower, although they only supply you with 2 tiny bars of soap, so take all your toiletries with you.

The pool in large and clean, but very cold - the pool area is clean with lots of sunbeds, no fighting the Germans for these!

The beach is sandy with clear blue seas with a sandy bottom, ideal for children and families, the sea was warmer than the pool!

The resort was a surprise and had lots of lovely bars and restaurants, we spent every evening in one or other of them, because there is no comfortable lounge bar in the hotel.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday but feel that just a few changes would make this hotel a fantastic one.

If they added the following it would be well worth the 4.5 wings it has been awarded.

Tea/coffee making facilities in rooms
Extra TV channels i.e. BBC news and film channel (for those wet days of which we experienced 3 in a week)
A proper comfortable Lounge with soft seating for after dinner coffee/drinks
Indoor pool and leisure suite

Would we go back? Probably not, because of the food!
" Don’t believe other reviews about... "

Don’t believe other reviews about this resort I was really worried after reading some but we had great holiday.

Rooms good and roomy beds huge balcony looking out over sea pool fantastic did not close at 1800 hrs as some had said I would defy anyone to say they could not get a sun bed have never seen so many. Only down side was food, it was eatable and plenty of it but did become quite boring? The reception is not like in a hotel but who spends that much time in reception unless you are one of those who complains about everything?

Supermarket there as cheap as in resort. About resort we were very surprised about that also as thought would only be few bars but there were plenty for us if you want karaoke a few do that, few showing films and some just nice quiet bars.

Plenty restaurants to choose from. And yes the quad bikes great fun, go over to other side of coast to restaurant called fisherman’s haunt what an idyllic place on coast to Messhongi. We would go back again.
" Took mother 72 and myself mid season.... "

Took mother 72 and myself mid season. The hotel was excellent value for money, clean, well maintained and the food was not bad for mass catering. The beach was clean and sun beds easy to come by.

The only problem were the other younger British staying in the hotel who insisted that we all listen to their music at 2 or 3 in the morning when they rolled in.

The hotel is well placed for going into the town for bars and restaurants and I would recommend it for young families. Friendly and safe.

" Having read various postings relating... "

Having read various postings relating to the Palm Beach Hotel in Corfu my wife and I embarked on our holiday with some trepidation. We arrived at the main reception (24Hrs) situated at the entrance to the Corfu Plaza (this is the self catering part of the complex), when low and behold we met the famous “white van”. Yes it is tatty but the Greeks have never been ones to put beauty before function, so the nice man took our luggage in his van to the Hotel entrance some 300 meters away rather than let us carry it ourselves.
Later that morning we went down to breakfast where a good selection of Continental and British food was available, although you just can’t get bacon like at home can you?, and powdered scrambled eggs are an acquired taste. Dinner is buffet style and no the ingredients are not from Covent Garden and no they do not employ a “3 Starred” chef here but the staff are friendly and the food was acceptable however I would have liked a little more authentic Greek cuisine.

The Hotel was opened in 2001 so still has it’s new feel although it might be said that some of the “craftsmen” never passed their “City & Guilds” and the gardens still aren’t established yet but it does have a big pool (no children’s area) with plenty of sun beds. Overall the hotel is clean and tidy with spacious rooms, a fridge, a TV with three whole channels, two of which are in German!! And a real bath but take your own shower gel because all you get is two small bars of soap.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday even though the bars and shops in the resort are expensive compared to other Greek Islands we have visited, at 4 Euros for a pint of Carlsberg we tended to buy local wine and beer from the supermarkets and use the fridge in the bedroom.

A word of warning, there are squadrons of mosquitoes waiting to attack the unprotected and so many used our balcony for billeting between sorties we were unable to sit out in the evening so be warned take a good repellent and sleep with one eye open! Apart from this we would go back to Corfu but probably the north end next time.

I must mention one other thing, QUAD BIKES, they are great fun and well worth the money, if you want one you won’t go wrong if you go to “Georges Motor Hire” and ask for “Yannis” a typical Greek charmer who was a pleasure to meet.

" Good standard hotel, we had a large... "

Good standard hotel, we had a large airy room overlooking side view of the sea, (pre booked) clean with 2 x queen size beds and fridge. Breakfast good but we did not stay for evening meals, as there were so many excellent (quality and price) restaurants within walking distance (especially Panorama and Darios)

Weather was very hot and we were glad we went in June, not later although there was a nice cooling breeze along beach. Beach not as fantastic as we had been led to believe but literally on doorstep of hotel and good for families with a lifeguard stationed daily.

Staff in hotel provided excellent customer service and locals very friendly .

Pool very large and clean and empty f swimmers most of the time.

Only downside was the gardens which were scrubby and patchy in places but everything else made up for this.

Would go back again and take one of Kostas boat trips across to Paxos and Anti Paxos.

" My partner and I went to the Palm... "

My partner and I went to the Palm Beach and like everybody else went through the ritual of the "white van”. Once we had seen our room, the restaurant and the pool realised quickly that we had made the right choice.

Weather was extremely hot and take plenty of mozzy gear if you go there. The town was bigger than I thought with a lot more bars than expected. Kostas boat trip to Paxos was a day we will never forget, as the place is awesome!! Overall an excellent choice and will definitely return.
