Portobello Apartments

Rooms are dirty. Had money and personal items stolen from our room, manager not interested. Portbello is well known by the local police for thefts.
Entertainment staff good. hotel location good. Had to be moved twice, reason not explained by staff.

We had a brilliant holiday. There were 2 adults and 3 children.We were put into 'k' block and the room was great. It had 2 bedrooms and both had ensuit bath rooms. The pools were all clean and the entertainment in both bars was good although we prefered the bigger pool around big fingers. We found the food to be really nice, but went out for evening meals.
Our 2 weeks were brill, the only down side was the 4 young lads in the room next door to us, they were screaming and having partys outside their door so also outside ours, this was happening everynight until 6, 7 in the morning which is very unfair. There must have been complaints because they were moved. All in all had a brill hol and we have booked to go back next year.

got there at 8pm my first impresion was wow, i found staff more than helpful. our room was cleaned every day . the whole complex was great and cleaned every nite cos i had pool veiw and ov happy brothers bar. the only complaints i would have would be 25 pound a week for air con and too much ov the same entertainment in happy brothers. the waiters was realy pleasent and was fun too be round. the slides could do with a face lift and an attendat at the bottom.met some lovley famlies in other blocks and it sounds like L block was the cleanest which is what we was in , but over all we had a good holiday.

just got back. there was 37 in our party all of us very disappointed. we got items stolen from our soon to be refurbished room. the staff on reception told a pack of lies saying we would get deposits back from safe and air conditioning which we did not they kept it. holidays 4 u reps not helpful and did not care and very rude when we complained, got told it was tough luck. a lady got shot in leg with a bullet from a catapult for taking own food and drinks round pool even though it was self catering, another got molested for doind same thing. staff pestered you all the time to book things in hotel you could not relax. they cleaned bar floor area with buckets of water taken from pool. the grass was as tall as the sunbeds. lots of people got ear infections from pool water. all in all we will not be visiting turkey again turned us off for life. look forward to go back to spain next year

the place is a disgrae its filthy expensive and falling to bits do not go. f block is a death trap waiting to happen theft was rife from room no end of customers lining up to complain hope the put up reviews to help others i should of researched this place more i could go on put just look at the reviews we all cant be wrong awful place.they want you to buy your own loo roll had to ask for linen and towel change nobody cares .they just want your money pool are a disgrce never cleaned at all .

, along with many others I'm sure, was very worried after I booked 1 bedroomed apartment at F block this complex as many reviews were negative. I hadn't relaxed till I actually stepped into the apartment! But were we surprised or what?!
I went with my boyfriend and two other guy mates for one week a few weeks ago, so obviously we weren't looking for a boring hotel or area to stay in. I initially booked it because it was one of the few places I could find in Marmaris that was offering a 1-bedroomed apartment for the price it was going for - which was very cheap! The pictures all looked wonderful too - but we've learnt from past experience that some pictures aren't to be trusted!
So bearing this in mind, as well as the many negative comments we heard about Portobello, we were pleasantly surprised! We were in block F. We were also on the ground floor with a view facing the third swimming pool.
The apartment itself was spotless and clean. We are a group that aren't very fussy about our living area as we spend most of our time outside but it does help having a nice, clean place to come back to. And we did. So I don't really see how others could complain! It's not a fancy apartment but then again, it is only 3 stars - so I would say we got more than we paid for! The rooms were fine, although we had a broken light in the bedroom (this was fixed without even mentioning it to anyone by the maids the next day!). The bathrooms were clean - only problem was the slow draining of the bathtub, which got annoying at times but the maids came and cleaned the bathrooms almost everyday so that helped! The kitchen had all the utensils ready so it was just nice and simple! The maids came and cleaned our rooms more often than not, and were nice enough to leave lovely designs with the bed sheets and sometimes a flower or two!
The complex itself is very big, and the pools were lovely! The guys in our group enjoyed the big slides. Sun beds, although we rarely used them, were often free (and we went during the peak season so it must be ok during other times!) All three pools are great, . Not all that bad....
The Happy Brothers restaurant by the entrance was the best! Although their food was rather expensive, we often only went there for the entertainment (did get repetitive but still) and the guys that worked there. They're amazingly friendly, a They get on with all the guests and provide lots of fun, even during the daytime when they play tug of war across one of the pools with the guests! They are a bunch of people that we miss already and would be the reason for us to go back!!
Marmaris is a wonderful town, and it is walking distance from the hotel, although the walking can get tiring especially in the heat! If you come out the entrance and turn left, walk further down you'll come across a travel agency, I think they were called Sultan or something - they are perfect for tours and excursions. Definitely worth it! If not them, walk into the town and you'll come across a travel agency literally every few metres - so it's good to haggle with them and you'll get reallly good deals! We often good tickets for parties and things for free just because they saw us walking with another travel agency's leaflet!
So this probably turned into an extra long review, but had to point out that the hotel really isn't as bad as what other reviews have made it out to be. I suppose it depends on how picky you are about your hotel, and if you're going with an open mind, you'll enjoy it more. Turkish people are veryyy friendly, I think this holiday was wonderful, people were great and totally loved it! Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone that's up for a laugh and a good time!

We`ve just come back from Club Portobello after an all too short 11 day holiday.We booked our family holiday on a tight budget and didn`t expect too much for our money.What we got was a great 1 bedroomed studio apartment ,with en-suite in the master bedroom,in the F block.This looked like nothings.The room was cleaned daily ,even at weekends,and the lad been descirbed on the net reception and guest relation were friendly and pleasant and did a very thorough job.
Onto the hotel itself- the pools are brilliant and cleaned daily,the slides are open twice a day for two hours and provide great fun for the kids and adults alike.The entertainment at night is fantastic and very lively,the "entertainers " work long,long hours as they double up as waiters in the day and dancers at night.A thankless job but they do it brilliantly.Yes they are very friendly but as a father of 3 girls ,2 of them teenagers,i didn`t feel once worried or concerned by their behaviour.They do welcome females with a kiss but it is a peck on both cheeks and nothing more!
Maybe some people may see the nightlife as too lively with young kids dancing on the bar and fireworks being lit around them but i didn`t see any teenagers drunk or any bad behaviour.
The Hotel is pricey as regards shopping and eating,the drinks are cheap however, but go outside to one of many small shops within 50 yards of the complex and you can buy cheap food.Also most Restaurants do "6 course specials" for around £5-6 a head.The hotel doesn`t like food and drink being brought from outside their complex around he pool but tell me a hotel that does? I found that is what mainly the people who brought alcohol down to the pool who were the problem.We took crisps and water down on a daily basis and were never challenged about it
There were a few small problems - The bars don`t close if people are still drinking and they will serve people who are clearly overly drunk.Air con is pricey too as we found to our cost
However if you are after a cheap holiday with fantastic entertainment on tap and aren`t looking for "the Ritz" as regards accomodation then i would recommend the place,indeed we got back Aug 2nd and on Monday are booking next year for 14 nights

This accommodation was the best i have ever stayed at in marmaris, you need to stay in the 1 bedroomed apartments ...... The accommodation is in the best location close to the beach and the resort center. I looked at reports of this before i went and was worried sick.... but BELIEVE me and im fussy and do not say in rubbish accommodation, the portobello HHH is fantastic especially for familes.
Go and dont be put off by other peoples comments

We were on holiday with my partner and i and our 3 children aged 13, 12 and 2yrs. What can i say we arrived and staff were very helpful helped us 2 our room which was only next door to reception. The room was boiling and went to pay for air conditioning the staff wouldnt let us pay for 1 bedroom we had to pay for 2 bedrooms there for it they wanted £100 on our 1st day of our holiday they was very rude and arrogant so me being stubborn told them not to bother and we suffered the heat. The kids loved the slides however they were very dirty and in much need of some repairs, as kids were coming off with cuts everywhere.The area round the pool near the big brothers bar was dangerous we saw 6 kids in the 1st week slip and hurt them selves quite badly 5 needed medical treatment one ended up in plaster so feel that something should have been done about this. There was a piece of carpet round the other pool which absolutely filthy but it stopped the kids from falling. We stayed around the big fingers bar pool most of our 2 weeks and the waiters loved the new comers as they would get them to go to all there theme nights but sort of left you alone the 2nd week. A couple of the waiters were ok like James and Speedy. However i was very angry one day when i turned to get some sun cream out my bag and turned back round to find my 2 yr old little girl gone from the side of me, when eventually i spotted her with a waiter who just picked her up and walked off with her,i was fuming. I had to be so careful with her they just wanted to kiss, touch, walk off with all the time, i couldnt take my eyes off her. The cleaners would walk in empty our bins and walk out they only give us clean towels once in 2 weeks when i threw them all on the floor. I tried this the next time and she just picked them up and threw them on the bath. In 2 weeks our beds did not get changed once at all despite asking several times at reception for them to get someone to it. This all sounds very negative until the last week when we spotted Ozzys bar in the chill bar opposite big fingers bar, the waiters there Sarat, Ozzy, and Deniz were absolutley fantastic they left the baby alone and just waved to her and brought her fresh fruit so she was happier they gave my other 2 children kids cocktails, they will do anything for you, they even put our towels out every morning for us (how good is that) . no getting up at 7am like everybody else did. The other positive side to this is its only 10 minute walk to beach and alot of bars and restaurants, for all you who are going to this hotel shortly try turning right out of the hotel as well as left we found a load of new places to go 2 days before we were coming home. We were very fortunate to be placed in the new part of the hotel and listenening and talking to others who werent this fortunate we were very lucky... Anybody travelling with hotels 4 u just make sure you sort your transfers out in plenty of time i tried to sort ours out for 3 days before i eventually got a confirmation. When the coach turned up they refused to take us and wanted to leave us at the hotel because they had forgot to put us on the list it took an hour to sort out which gave us 2hrs 40mins to get to airport and get checked in which after a 2 hr 10 min journey with that stupid stop they have why the driver fills his belly with large amounts of food, gave us 30mins to check absolute nightmare with 3 children, just made it... I still feel a holiday is what you make it and we did have a good holiday regardless of the negative things about the hotel we ended up just laughing about them all... Just one more point the hotel is very expensive for food and drinks.....

First of all I'll start with the bad points. I stayed in F block which to be honest, the worst block. My room got cleaned about twice a week if lucky, the maid came in before nine and the florrs were never swept. There are no lifts in F block which wasn't a personal problem but for people who have walking difficulties, well it's a bit tough. Apart from that the rooms were okay, I'm young so to me holidays aren't about rooms. Unfortunately F block is rather old and the blocks at the front of the complex look beautiful, so it'z maybe worth requesting them as you get placed on arrival. Health and safety is very poor, there is alot ov places to fall or slip, so please watch out. Anyway, the good points. The big fingers staff were absolutely brilliant they made a real big impact on the holiday. Very well spoken english, polite and funny, if it'z a first time in Turkey you probably won't be used to their hospitality as they are quite forward. We wen't to the big fingers bar at night alot and the entertainment and food is 10 out of 10. The staff are very hardworking and will do everything to give customer satisfaction. Big shout out to one of the managers, Mahmud, great guy and very polite. The turkish bath at the hotel was amazing but makesure u don't get ripped off we payed 50 lira each and one of the bar staff told us that we had been ripped off, work on your'e haggling skills. Overall it is an amazing place for all ages and I would definately recommend it. The nightlife in marmaris is amazing, totally made my holiday, but it'z not for everyone!
