Grand Oztanik Hotel

My wife and I were required to stay at the Grand Oztanik as part of a tour group from 26 to 28 September and 9 October 2007. The hotel is located with many other hotels near Taksim Square in the European part of Istanbul which is a major transport hub and shopping area. The hotel staff generally were very friendly, especially the Concierge, who was knowledgeable and very helpful. We stayed here as part of a tour group. The hotel is conviently located on a quiet street close to Taksim square. The rooms were clean and well appointed but were too hot and we could not get it to cool down. This made sleeping a bit uncomfortable. The breakfast buffet was good with a fair variety. The juice was poor (we found this generally the case unless you ordered fresh squeezed juice). The fitness room had limited equipment but it was in working order. This hotel claims to be a 'four star' hotel. Well, it's not, at least by any standard I've ever seen. This is more like a two-star hotel that has seen better days, even though this property is supposedly only a few years old. Don't be fooled by the nice-looking pictures of the lobby, etc. The hallways are dark and dreary, since the hotel is trying to save electricity by using motion sensors on its lights. Stayed at the Grank Oztanik in May 2006 with 7 people (4 rooms) from ages 35 - 70. We all loved the hotel, it was very lovely and clean. Breakfast (included) was amazing with several choices, pleasing everyone. The front desk was polite and very helpful. The lobby seating area and bar are very upscale with leather couches and glassware. All of our rooms were on the 2nd floor facing the front of the hotel, since the street is set back behind the Square it was quiet, there was not much noise. I stayed a couple of nights in this hotel. Rooms was ok... but a bit sad. Air conditioning wa noisy and not working properly. The lights in the corridor are terrible (they go on and off according to the movement) Location is good but no car parking in the front. You are forced to "jump off" from the taxi in order to avoid other cars driver shouting! Staff is friendly and hepful. Breakfast is ok.

I stayed in the Grand Oztanik during a group trip to Istanbul. Its location is very good: near to Taksim Square, but not in a noisy part, and you can find some nice traditional shops nearby. Rooms are relatively small, but this is something common in four stars hotels with many rooms. Bathrooms are quite nice, well equiped and the mini bar is well stocked. We were supposed to have an in-room safe, but it was broken - and imagine that the hotel is new (built in 2005). No view from the rooms, and the walls are so thin you can hear everything... more
