Good holiday for the over 40's
" First impression wasn't great.... "
Submitted By: Miss P SmithViews are amazing - just beautiful. There was an awful sewage smell in several areas of this hotel and the sister hotels.
Steps to the beach are hardly worth complaining about. They were not that steep and there is a slightly longer route you can take which encounters fewer steps. Beach was ok - not the nicest beach ever but not the worst either. The sea was freezing with quite a lot of tiny jellyfish (several people were stung).
Food was ok. Proper vegetables which was lovely as many places I've been to have had awful tinned stuff. Some of the food was a little cold by the time you ate it. Breakfast was nice and for lunch we always ate at the western saloon snack bar at the bottom hotel.
Entertainment was good. Shows every night but the rep show was appalling. They didn't even mime the right words to the songs and I won't even mention the dancing! The entertainment staff were good though - they out in a lot of effort to involve people -especially zorro.
The First Choice rep was absolutely awful. She didn't seem to know anything. We asked about the bus sevices and cost and she told us she didn't know and to check with reception. Knew nothing about taxi costs to the main resorts either. She was about as useful as a chocolate teapot! The rest of the hotel staff were friendly and helpful enough.

Submitted By: Mr Kevin CurrieThe Hotel is situated on top of a cliff, its a long way to the beach, and the lift at the second hotel kept breaking down (this hotel is 1 of 3 you can access)
The drains stink! as does the hotel lobby - the thomson rep was hard to locate, and even when they did show up they did nothing about this smell.
The rooms were basic and tired, in need of some fresh paint. There are two shops at the beach, a SPAR and a SPAR, not a great choice!
Entertainment during the day was good ( Well done Demitri and Yanka) how ever night time entertainment did not start till 9.45pm and was usually over and done by 10.30!
I would not return to this hotel and would not reccommend it to my friends

Submitted By: Mrs J PeggWe would highly recommend to family and friends and we will not consider staying anywhere else when we return to Ibiza.
" WHAT A TOTALLY ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY FOR... "
Submitted By: Mrs J HAWLEYFOOD CHOICE VERY GOOD, THOUGH LITTLE CHOICE FOR CHILDREN (HAVE SUGGESTED A CHILDRENS FOOD ONLY BAR AS PROVIDED ON OTHER HOLIDAYS WE HAVE BEEN ON) USE OF 3 X RESTAURANTS, A MEXICAN CORNER, TAPAS BAR, CHINESE RESTAURANT AND BURGER/HOT DOG ETC BAR (SITUATED AT BOTTOM HOTEL)
ENTERTAINMENT WAS FANTASTIC AT THE GALEON WITH DIMITRI GOING OUT OF HIS WAY TO KEEP EVERYONE ENTERTAINED. IF YOU WANT MORE OF A BUTLINS FEEL THEN GO TO THE BOTTOM HOTEL WHERE IT IS NOISIER.
SURROUNDING AREAS: A VISIT TO THE CAVES WHICH ARE 5 X MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL RECEPTION ARE WORTH A VISIT. EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY WITH VERY FRIENDLY STAFF. BEACH IS WELL WORTH A VISIT. VERY CLEAN AND NOT TOO MUCH SHINGLE/SEA WEED. CANOES/PADDLE BOATS ETC ARE FREE. BANANA BOAT RIDES AND SPEED BOATS AT A CHARGE. SUN BEDS AND PARASOLS VERY EXPENSIVE. BUY A PARASOL FROM THE LOCAL SPAR AND LIE ON YOUR OWN TOWELS ON THE SAND WITH YOU OWN SHADE AND YOU CAN USE THIS FOR EVERY DAY OF YOUR HOLIDAY RATHER THAN PAYING A LOT OF MONEY.
ONLY REASON I MARKED THIS HOLIDAY AS A 9/10 IS THE REP AND THE ROOM: NOT VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND JUST WANTED TO SELL TRIPS OUT. DOES NOT TELL YOU ABOUT THE CAVES AND THE SURROUNDING SHOPS FOR BITS AND BOBS ETC. YOU ARE BEST SPEAKING TO OTHER GUESTS AS WE DID WHO HAVE ARRIVED THERE THE WEEK BEFORE AS THEY WILL HAVE MORE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LOCAL AREA. ALSO WHEN WE ARRIVED WHAT WAS SHOWN IN THE BROCHURE AS A STANDARD ROOM (LOOKED NICE) WAS ACTUALLY A SUPERIOR ROOM. WE HAD TO UPGRADE AS THE ROOM WAS NOT UPTO MUCH. COST US AN EXTRA £60.
MADE SOME LOVELY FRIENDS FORM CARDIFF. HOPE THEY GOT HOME OKAY AS THEY MISSED THEIR TRANSFER AND FLIGHT. (TONY AND JACKIE)
IF YOU WANT A MIXTURE OF RELAXATION, OR LOTS OF ENTERTAINMENT, PANORAMIC VIEWS, SUN, SEA, DRINK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AND EAT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN THIS HOLIDAY PROVIDES ALL THIS AND MORE.
WE WILL BE DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK.

Submitted By: Mrs D RichmondThe hotel was very dated and in need of a major upgrade, ther were ants all over the balcony and our balcony looked like concrete had been mixed on it, also outside was a bucket for the overflow of the air conditiong.
If you have already booked and can not change then eat at the sister hotel san Miguel -a nice clean hotel - good food - air conditioning and a great chinese!! (you have to do this through reception we found out a week later)
There was not alot to do at this resort but the beach was lovley with plenty of watersports for all ages (sunbeds are chaaper on the left side of the beach for some reason??? (that's as you are looking out to sea)
One plus point for this hotel was the entertainment team - FANTASTIC !!!! - We had many a good night with Zorro and his team Brill!
Also the staff in the Western Saloon, again they were really good with a good choice of snacks at lunch)

Submitted By: Ms J DunmoreIf you do go to this resort do go see the guy in charge of the Banana boat etc, as he will take you round to the hippy beach at Benares on a sunday which really is a fantstic trip not offered by anyone else, as the sun sets the beach is full of hippies dancing, fire eating it just buzzes. Leos prices are extremely reasonable and he is really realiable.
Have a good stay
" Brilliant holiday! The hotel was very... "
Submitted By: neilnkazThe view from the hotel was gorgeous and so was the beach. We took our 10 month old baby and the hotel was very suitable for him, cot provided, high chairs available in the restaurants.
Staff very friendly, entertainment very good, especially the DJ who spoke several languages to suit all. The balcony had table and chairs but could have done with a brush and mop, thats the only negative about it. There were also several day trips available by our rep or Ibiza Excursions located down the road from the supermarket (Ibiza Excursions was cheaper).
" This was without a doubt the best... "
Submitted By: Miss N Bishopwe went for a week and i can truely say that i can not fault a single thing about the holiday! except for the depth of the pool! was too deep! but if you are a confident swimmer you should have no troubles!!
the hotel was always clean and tidy and the staff were always polite too you.
there was always a really friendly atomsphere around the hotel an we were always made to feel welcome. during the day we would spend our time around the pool, at the beach which is a 5 minute walk down some rather steep steps or you could always take the lift which others oviously failed to realise was there! there are a few shops a 10 minute walk away which are great for souvineirs etc and arent too expensive. meal times were also enjoyable and there was always a wide range of hot and cold food to choose from.
the evening entertainment was always really good and funny and also brang all the guests closer as you all get the chance to participate.
there are also many activities and competitons to participate in through out the day and night and also many childrens activites. they even have a childrens area near the pool.
all though you are not near the centre of san miguel i think there is plenty to do for all ages overall it was a fantastic holiday and i hope to visit the hotel again in the future

Submitted By: Mrs T WilesThe AI deal is great with no worries needed about how much spending money to take with you, about £50 does you for a week! We go hoping for a very quiet break, grab some rays and chill out.
We saunter down to the beach which is not onerous and despite the steps this is a small price to pay for being away from earshot of the 'family' hotel which is the sister hotel at the bottom of the cliff which we can only describe as Butlins in Ibiza.
The entertainment crew at the Galeon are a fairly quiet mob but they do organise water polo, beach footy and lots of kids activities if you feel like joining in, but they do respect the fact that most guests just want to have a quiet break. If you are looking for forced entertainment then go to the hotel at the bottom! Evenings are spent as you like.
We wander around the beach a bit, alright that takes about 15 mins but it’s a stroll and then we wander back up the steps to tranquillity. There are discos for the little ones and various cabarets if you want them.
The food is of a good standard, not glorious but then again you are not paying 'glorious' prices to go there. If you book independently then the costs are about £300 per week per person AI in the height of August! Coupled with a flight from a cheap as chips carrier, that takes our holiday to £800 for two for the week.
I would suggest strongly that you hire a car for the entire duration of your stay at the Galeon and we use it to visit San An a few times and Santa Eulalia for the market and the view of the expensive boats, plus the odd visit to the hippy market. I understand that someone may feel isolated if there is no car for them to zoom about in. Having said that, before you go, do your research.
Puerto San Miguel is non existent as a village, but that comes across from studying the internet and I hope that it never tries to become something it is not.
A final point then, having been twice and on the net now about to book again for summer 2007 I can honestly say that the atmosphere appears just fine to me and my husband.
You may also think that we must be two 'oldies' to have written about chilling out, lack of noise etc. but actually we are two hardworking deputy head teachers in our mid 30s with 4 kids of our own. The week we have at the Galeon as a couple is pure bliss, and nice and calm - long may it continue!
" Much more tucked away than we... "
Submitted By: Miss J HarrisSaying that, the views were really impressive and the beach looked gorgeous from our balcony. Glass bottom boat - good. Was told lots of water sports, scooters and English TVs - could get none of these - apart from the one banana boat.
VERY quiet the hotel everyone seemed to be silent and very strange atmosphere!!! Hot and stuffy with regular smells of dirty sewer water!
I didn't have a bad time but will not be going back, simply because it was too far away from everything and the strange atmosphere. Go to the Galeon for the great views and if you don't want to do much at all. Don't go if you would like the mixture of relaxation and fun - like us!

We found getting drinks to be easy, though at times the service was a bit slow. The food in the main eating hall was an ok standard and if you have kids and they like macdondalds or little chef they will have plenty to eat. Saying that Some of the food was downright awful, steak that was tougher than cardboard, tuna omelletes for breakfast and eggs fried in a vat of oil. However there were occasions where the food was wonderfull, the spegheti carbonara and salmon was fab. Plenty of fresh fruit if you don't like deserts packed with 110% sugar. We also enjoyed playing drinks roulette as the soft drinks machines dished out apple juice instead of grapefruit and sometimes the pineapple was just water. The orange was like kiora. The white wine ran out once of twice too, but there was rose, red and beer to have instead and or tea and coffee. We all loved the waitress police, no sooner than you had finished your plate would be wisked away!
The canoes of the beach were free to use and these in out opinion were much better than paying for 10euros for the peddelos. Our 9yr old was to small for the wind surfing though. The kids loved feeding the fish with bread that we snuck out from breakfast. The beach swimming area had a lifeguard and was cornered off from the boats, the water was warm and crystal clear. We found out you had to pay for sunbeds on the beach which was about 20euros a day so the kids bought airbeds and we just towels and we purchased a parasol from the spar for 8 euros.
The nighttime entertainment was good family fun, though we had to pay 1 euro for bingo. The pool had a no swimming past 7pm sign but the kids were in till 9.30 some times whilst we watched the entertainment. The worst thing we found was the all inclusive bar stopped at 11pm on then we had to pay, to get around that we started to get 2 or 3 drinks a couple of times from 10.30 and stock piled (everyone did it) them as the entertainment went well on to 12am.
The western saloon was ok for burgers and drinks thought the flies around there were a pain, we didn't use any other of the pools as they were far more crowded than the Galeon's. The reception area had 2 internet connected PCs for 1 euro for 10 mins and Wifi, but as we were on holiday I was band from using them ;) .
All in all good fun!
