We stayed here out of season, just wanted a week away with friends.
The Rueben’s was cheap though hardly cheerful. The pool was green (no exaggeration, I have pics to prove) I think even frogs would have turned their noses up at swimming in this thick brew!
The rooms were beyond basic, rust in the shower, ceiling fan hanging off and dirty bed linen.
All that aside, we had the problem of the power going off; I was stuck in the lift for almost an hour in the dark, screaming for help. Eventually my husband and some people got me out, no management to be seen.
The only saving grace of the holiday was the hire car (we went out every day) and the bar at the end of Rueben’s called Crazy Daisys which saved our sanity every night.
Would I return? What do you think!

Now known as the Venus hotel, Qawra, sister hotel to the Palm Court Hotel, which is just around the corner, having returned yesterday, I would certainly go back here, despite some of the reports I read after making our booking, which did not fill us with confidence about this hotel.
I am glad that I went with an open mind, and I was not disappointed at all. Three star to me, says 'cheap and cheerful' and my partner and I, aged over fifty (just) are still into Youth Hostelling, because we prefer to use any accommodation as a place to have a bite to eat and lay our heads, but use as a base to explore the area, and this hotel is in a great situation for this, bus station right around the corner.
As for the complaints we read about the hotel pool, well, either some of you were unlucky, or we were lucky, because the pool was spotlessly clean, we did swim in it once, because we prefer to swim in the many bays and coves around the island, and the only complaint about the pool is that it is badly situated and doesn't get much sun on it, therefore is very cold, but I have been in colder pools in 5* hotels.
Room was comfortable and clean, everything worked, aircon and ceiling fan, plenty of hot running water, clean beds, and the food was at worst edible, and at best actually pretty good, especially the meat from the carvery, particularly the pork.
Ii you want to spend your holiday lounging by the pool, and swimming in the pool, I would not recommend this hotel at all, but if, like us, you enjoy eating out in the many reasonably priced restaurants, and trying the local food dishes, then this is the hotel for you.
It's simple, you get what you pay for, so please don't pay rock bottom price and expect a top class hotel, but if you want a good, cheap holiday, and want to use other hotels' facilities, and spend most of your holiday going sightseeing, then I doubt you will be disappointed at the Venus.

Stayed here in June, paid £74 per person for a week (including flights) through Malta Bargains had a great holiday the hotel was what you would expect for £74 but Malta is a fantastic island the people are wonderful and there are some great restaurants, explore the island rent a jeep and drive from one side to the other in an hour, visit the beeches, book through the small local shops for boat trips to Gozo.
Try the speed boat trip to the blue grotto this is great, although the hotel was run down the pool didn’t look clean your on an island surrounded by the med so who needs a swimming pool, and we never even considered eating there but you are surrounded by fab restaurants the staff were the same as I have experienced in any other country on a cheap bargain getaway.
The rooms do not have air conditioning and were very hot but they were cleaned everyday. The hotel does need a complete refurb but this did not spoil our holiday as there is so much to do and see in Malta all we needed was a shower and somewhere to sleep and you get both of these at the Reuben.
So if you have already booked and are reading bad reviews and regretting booking don't just be ready for a very basic hotel to use as a base and nothing more and have a wonderful time I have given overall rating as 10 as Malta is wonderful - the hotel only really rates as a 2.

For the price of our holiday, it was an acceptable residential placement.
Although, work was definitely needed to the pool area and main foyer area.
The rooms were habitable but also lacked general maintenance up-keep i.e.: cooker, fridge, ceiling fan where old and dated and in very much need of a restoration.
The staff were helpful & polite and the apartments were allocated in close reach for almost everything, buses, shops, bars & restaurants. Also within walking distance to the coast at Bugibba.
I would recommend this holiday for all, families, retired couples even young folks would have a brilliant time.
Malta has a very pleasant & warming culture and is definitely a place you'd want to visit time & time again.
I will be returning myself this year and cannot wait!

Me, my Fiancée and her family (Mother, father and 2 teenage brothers) visited the Reuben court complex in Malta at the end of October 2004. We booked this with Malta bargains and paid £168-00 each (including accommodation, flights, taxes and transfers). After reading numerous reviews on the Internet, we were very worried. We even considered not going.
After arriving in the early hours of the morning we were given the keys to our room. We didn’t have much of a look round then, as we had been travelling for nearly 12 hours.
Upon waking in the morning and having a proper inspection of the room and look around the building, we were pleasantly surprised. OK, you couldn’t really use the cooker, because of health worries!!, but the food in Malta isn’t exactly expensive, and we had obviously made a huge saving in the accommodation.
Reuben court is a two star hotel. This needs to be kept in mind when booking. The hotel is perfect for anyone who just needs somewhere to sleep and have a rest in the day. It’s in a great location, with lots of good bars and restaurants in the vicinity. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My fiancée’s parents had been given a room with 4 single beds, and as they didn’t relish the thought of sharing the whole week with two teenage boys, they requested another room from reception, expecting to pay some kind of fee. They were overjoyed to be given another room free of charge.
We did have a look in Palm court (Reuben court’s 3 * partner hotel), and were aware that we could’ve upgraded for a very small fee (like some other guests who booked in the same day as us). But Palm court was packed, full with OAPs and young children. The facilities were always overflowing with people (swimming, bar, pool), whereas Reuben court, it felt like we were the only people there. This suited us down to the ground. Although the bar was closed for the entire week, you could always get a game of pool whenever you wished.
The swimming pool didn’t look too enticing, but any guest of Reuben court was more than welcome to use any of Palm courts facilities.
The reps were extremely helpful and informative. The only real downside with the location appeared to be the annoying time share reps that touted for business around the entrances to both hotels. The most annoying of all was a northern idiot by the name of Wigan. We reported this to the holiday rep and she agreed that he was an idiot and the police are constantly moving them on when they catch them.
The very next day, ‘Wigan’ had surely been warned by the police and had moved out of the area (we saw him loitering around other hotels in the area), we believe this to be down to the holiday rep we had complained to.
All in all, we all had a fantastic holiday and would go back to Reuben court tomorrow if we could get time off work. Malta is a lovely country and Reuben court is the perfect place to stay for a cheap holiday leaving extra money to spend on the great restaurants and days out Malta has to offer.
Reuben court is a 2* hotel. For the price it is literally a MALTA BARGAIN!!!

Reuben Court is basic and clean, but the pool is not very enticing. The water is murky and would benefit from a good clean out. There is no way you could cook in your room if you were self-catering, but as we were half board this did not concern us. The meals were taken in palm court hotel, and can be best described as school dinners.
The staff were pleasant and friendly, and any problems with the rooms were quickly sorted, i.e. broken fan, dodgy lock. The only real problem we had was with the bar down the road, which is open, all night, and a theft from our room. Somebody broke into our room and stole our children’s Gameboys, along with two thick rugby shirts that I was using to travel in. We were given free safety deposit boxes after this happened, and the staff did their best to help, but I believe that the crime was carried out by fellow tourists.
As it is very cheap to go to Malta with Maltabargains, there are a lot of people there whose upper price limit for a holiday can only afford this, and the clientele reflects this. I would not stay there again, but I would revisit Malta at the upper end of the market.
