Good place
from catwomansarah
Just come back from 10 nights in Kos. Stayed in Tingaki resort which has great restaurants & bars. The food there is very good & well presented. Visited the mountain village of Zia which was beautiful with its sunset, a must see. Also did the 3 island cruise to Vathi, Plati & Pserimos which was very nice. Tingaki has a 6 mile long beach which has some seaweed just as you are getting into the sea. The sand is ok but i've seen much nicer. Sunbeds are plentiful at 3euro's a day. Tingaki is very busy & noisy with traffic that is really its only downfall. There is an offshore breeze sometimes in the resort which is most welcome from the heat at times. I would recommend staying somewhere near to Paradise Beach/Bubble Beach near Kefalos as it's lovely down there, better beaches & clearer seas. Tingaki looks out across the sea over to Gumbet/Ovacik & Turgetreis in Turkey as well. Kos has got quite mountainous scenery with Mount Dikeos in the background which is quite stunning to see. Do not stay in Kardamena as its a bit of a dump. Overall, we had a nice time in Kos.
Stay well away from Angela Apartments, terrible!

Recently returned from Tingaki and was appalled by the disgusting view from our room behind the bar in the Angela Apartments. We were looking out onto a filthy piece of waste ground with debris and rubbish. The atmosphere in the Angela is awful due to the rude owners Nicki & George, I felt like I was in Blackpool as all of the staff are English and are scared stiff of the "big bad Nicki". She is the rudest Greek woman I have ever met. If you dare to go outside of the Angela to eat, drink or use another pool (the pool at Angela is disgusting) you will be intimidated and treated with scorn on your return. They own the Grand Salle restaurant across the road and if you dont eat there you will be treated badly. It is not a good restaurant at all and their bullying tactics will not work with intelligent people, if you want a good restaurant go to The Mediteranean or Meni Beach. It is like a concentration camp as they have all but locked you in so that in order to leave you have to pass through the bar, snack bar and supermarket to get out of this awful place. There is a gate on the other side of the pool which would allow you to come and go without hassle from them but it is always locked so that you have to leave via the bar and shop to force you to buy something. Do they really think people are so stupid that they cant see this. We used the pool next door in Socrates Studios it was absolutely beautiful, fab food, relaxing atmosphere, lovely Greek owners who made you feel welcome. Socrates Studio made our holiday and we would highly recommend it, it is a much higher class and standard than the Angela, there is no comparison. We spoke to several people whilst in Tigaki who had been to the Angela and had either left or demanded their money back due to the disgraceful attitude of staff, owners and crap views from the rooms. Olympic holidays need to listen to their clients or maybe they only want a certain class of client!! If you are not a 9am lager swilling person who continues to drink all day then you will most certainly not fit into this establishment. It was a horrible horrible place.

"well what can i say about the angela apartments" FANTASTIC, the apartments were 1st class, the staff were brilliant, fran and nicky are so friendly and they made me laugh so much, very down to earth, just like me. the apartments were just 5mins from the beach, but it was also very nice to stay around the apartments swimming pool which was plenty big enough, martin kept the pool area very ckean and tidy, bbq night very good. the rooms were plenty big enough, only 1 complaint! the shower needs a hook so you dont have to hold it and wash at the same time! hahaha!! lots of places to eat at night, to many to choose from, we tryed a few different places and found rosini, right across from angela apartments one of the best, food and price wise. from angela apartments it was a straight road on to the beach passing all the resturants and shops and a lovely walk at night after your meal, the food to buy for self-catering, main meal i thought was quite expensive, so we had a sandwich in the apartments and eat out at night, which was realy nice, the island tour was very good, but to hot to sit on a coach for hours, and paridise and bubble beach were perfect, nice clear blue sea, nice to just chill, the trip to kos town and the harbour was also very good, the harbour was such a lovley site to see. it was a very lovely island, nice and quite and relaxing, a very nice chilling holiday and i would defo go back to the angela apartments, and i am already thinking about it for next year, i would also go back on my own. sue and lisa stoke on trent
Nice relaxing time in Tingaki
from buzzaPlymouth
We spent two weeks at the Angela Apartments in Tingaki. We booked the holiday on a late deal which was a "cheap n cheerful" break. The Angela Apartments are situated on the main road of Tingaki about a 5min walk to the beach. We found the location good in that it was in touching distance of the tavernas and bars as well as the lovely beach. The Angela is a well maintained and clean hotel. Greek accomodation we have found to be quite basic. The Angela is no exception but is clean and ideal as a base to rome the resort. We used the pool and bar facilities however our preference was to go to the beach. The sunloungers on average cost 3 euros a day however if you walk further down the beach they are cheaper outside aphrodites grill bar (which incidentally is very good). We booked a few trips whilst we were away. The Greek night was very good. Food was good with as much wine as you can drink. We also hired a car for a day and toured the island and booked on the 3 Island tour. We used a company called Tingaki Express (situated on the main st in Tingaki). Unfortunately for each trip we had a problem. For the greek night they forgot to pick us up from our hotel. I had to ring the emergency number on our ticket for the driver to come and get us. The car we hired wasn't ready on the morning we had booked. We had to go to the next resort to collect it. And the 3 island tour turned into the 2 island tour as the captain of the boat said that the weather was too bad (you couldn't of wished for a better day!). We did though book a day trip to Bodrum with another tour operator in the town which went smoothly. It cost 25 euros to go to Turkey for the day. We really enjoyed our day there. Overall a very nice relaxing two weeks. The Angela is a good base to go and explore the resort and the island if you so wish.
Good base in Tingaki
from Back_in_Blighty
Just got back from Angela's after spending a lovely week in Tingaki with my husband. My sister and her husband were also in resort at a different venue which was nowhere near and good as Angela in terms of facilities and location. Was initially a bit put off on arrival as the room seemed to have a musty smell to it. Soon established that this was down to the plumbing in the toilet/wetroom and not a cleanliness issue. Smell did linger while we were there but we soon got used to it. Room at Angela's had twin beds, wardrobe, dressing table, small kitchen facility and seperate toilet/wetroom (no bath). Unusually for self catering there was no area to sit or eat in the room only the balcony outside (however as I generally don't cook when away this didn't bother me). Overall the accomodation was OK and better than that I've been to previously in the greek Islands. Facilities on site at Angelas are very good. Pool, shower, pool bar, snack bar, shop (actually very reasonable), games room. Staff are all very friendly (and majority are Brits so communication not an issue). However be warned - if you use your acccomodation as a base to get out and about and don't spend a bit of cash at the bar each day - the pointed comments will start (so much so that after getting off a bus and grabbing a quick change of top before getting some food elsewhere my sister noted the tone of the "be seeing you later?" from the bar staff and mentioned how rude it appeared). Don't get me wrong the service was really good and friendly but I didn't like feeling pressured to spend more time (and money) at their bar when there were other places to visit. Another teething point was the air con charge, whilst it was entirely optional 7 euro a night meant we forked out 49 euro. We asked around and on average most places were charging 25euro for the week (cynic in me wonders if it had anything to do with the virtual heatwave going on while we were there). However on a plus point there ws no problem keeping the room on later on our depature night and as we weren't being picked up til 01.30 hours we didn't mind paying 35euro to keep the room till 23.00. I've stayed in Kos before (in Kos Town, twice) and would say I much prefer Tingaki over Kos Town and that the Angela was much better overall than the accomodation in Kos Town was. Tingaki beach is lovely and sandy (not shingle/pebble) and there are plenty of bars just across the road. you can walk out into the water for ages without it getting too deep. Tingaki is just less in your face than Kos Town, you can happily amble down to the beach and take a stroll on it at any time of day without being harassed left right and centre to eat at this place, drink at that place or use these sun loungers. It's very laid back and once you're in a venue they will look after you in order to keep you in there. In particular Memories was very free and easy with the shots and drinking games in the evenings as was Aphrodities on the beach front in the afternoons after a day of lounging. Foodwise, I'd thoroughly recommend Meni on the main road and Dana on the beach - both do superb mix of greek and international cusine at reasonable prices (just watch out for the mozzies at Dana though, they feast on you while you're eating!). I'd advise anyone to avoid Vassilies on the main road, whilst it looks OK and the service is reasonable the food was deplorable - only bad food experience of the week. General tip - You will be charged for loungers on Tingaki Beach regardless of whether or not you buy a breakfast at the adjacent beach bar thinking this will bag you a free lounger. Nearest to the fountain island are the most expensive loungers (3 or 4 euro each) if you go further away along the coastal road they get cheaper, we walked as far as Aphrodities and they were charging 2.50 euro each. While we were there the mozzies were out in force and biting like buggers, get some spray locally it's much more effective than anything you can get at home to take with you. Alternatively an ex pat over there swears by eating marmite or bovril in the weeks leading up to your trip, apparently the mozzies hate the yeast and will leave you well alone!
lovely hotel , but !

just arrived home after a holiday in tingaki . i cannot fault the angela at all , its very very clean and the staff are very helpfull . nicky is a wonderful person offering you any amount of help and advise . the grande salle restauraunt opposite is owned by her husband george , you get 10% off meals if you are staying in the angela . BUT ! george doesnt want you to eat anywhere else , he will tell you everybody in tingaki cooks frozen food except him . He will ask you to come and take a look in his neighbouring restraunters bins at frozen food packageing , what happened to freedom of choice . Angela has a very nice pool , but my hubby and i decided the pool next door was bigger for our daily swim , so we spent our days being made very welcome from greek family who own socrates studios next door . Again i say freedom of choice . We returned each day to the angela after our day at day at the pool , only to be looked at with disgust and a mumble in greek by who we think was the owner of the angelas mother . tingaki is a nice resort , it is one very long busy road to the beach , cars speed day and night , buses , bikes, vans . i was disappointed after reading on many sites about tingaki being a quite resort . shame about the main road . the beach looked ok , we went to the beach but didnt stay as the sunbeds are laid out side to side and go on for miles .We have never seen so many sunbeds , it was nicknamed sunbed city .
Angela Hotel/Annex Apartments, Tingaki, Kos
from Markoperoni52
We have just returned from a week staying at the Angela Hotel and Annex Apartments 13-05-09. Me my wife and daughter along with my parents stayed in the Annex Part which was right next to the hotel and my brother and wife stayed in the Hotel. All rooms were exceptionally clean with good basic facilities. The pool/snack bar area was also very clean with loads of sunbeds mostly new. The Patio area around the snack bar also had new furniture with plenty of chairs/tables etc. The food at the snack (good menu) bar was superb with English Battered Fish (imported from Grimsby), Chips and Peas one of our favourites (6 Euro) and Homemade Chilli with Jacket Potato (4 Euro) a favourite to. The bar staff (Fran and Leslie) just couldnt do enough for you and went that 'Extra Mile' to make our holiday perfect. The owners Nicky and George are also very friendly to and are also there to make your stay a comfortable one. On site the pool is a good size with a small childs pool, Garden area and patio area with 2 big screen t.v's, Also a games room - Pool Table, Table football and video games etc and also on site was the supermarket which Nicky was running. Also right next to all bars/tavernas and large beach (sunbeds 3 euro each with free umbrella) all with a 5 min walk. Nicky also rushed back from a meeting to see everyone off staying at Angela along with Leslie and Fran which was a bit of a tear jerking moment. One of the best holidays we have had and already planning a return to this complex in 2010 !!
Great all-round Appartments
from little-miss-magic1
The Angela Appartments are great all round. Staff very friendly. Rooms fairly basic, but had everything you'd need - especially for the price. Very clean, room was cleaned and towels/sheets changed at least every other day. Great location, on the main Tingaki road, so close enough to everything, but not noisy. About a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. Pool is fairly small, but very clean and never crowded. Pool bar well stocked with any drink you want - recommend the banana milkshake! Small shop has anything you may have forgotten or run out of. Highly recommended.
Yassou Nektaria!
from Agappemou
I used to live on Kos, up in the mountain near Zia, and I knew most of the hotels before I booked as I was also a part-time Holiday Rep, and the best places to stay on Kos are Tingaki for the beach and night life and situated centrally is a great base for exploring the island, and Kefalos for the peace and quiet and its "real" Greek -ness (Hotel Athinoula in Kefalos). I have to admit that the Angela was not my 1st choice - I wanted to stay at the Mythos but was let down by my travelling companion and I lost the room. However I cannot fault the Angela! The rooms are very spacious and airy, and spotlessly clean due to the Bulgarian cleaner who works all hours and then goes to care for her father and still has a cheery smile and a chat (well I do speak Greek)but she would change our sheets and towels every day and empty the bins and mop the floor - and wash the dishes!! The pool area is fantastic and the pool lovely - just right to cool down in and Scottish Elaine who works at the pool's snack bar is great - the prices aren't too bad and you can get traditional Greek food and the usual English stuff all from the restaurant "Grand Salle" from across the road (either Elaine runs across or Georgos brings it over for you) which is owned and run by the owners Nektaria (Niki) and Georgos (George) but although they advertise 10% discount to all staying at their hotel/appts you have to ask when you eat there which is not on but typical Greek.... I travelled on my own with my 4 year old son and he had the time of his life and learnt to swim whilst he was there - and to jump in with no fear - courtesy of Nikos, the owners' son who is 8 yrs old! It is not a long way to the beach, but as my son did find it a bit too far to walk this would be the only niggle I had, walking down wasn't too bad, but coming back was a pain with a whingeing tired child and carrying all the gubbins for the beach too - if only they could move the Angela to the beach front! This would be perfect - I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough! The beach at Tingaki is fantastic, sandy (not all beaches on Kos are pebbly) and very shallow for quite a way so the water is lovely and warm plus very safe for children. I don't like sunbeds and loads of people so a short walk along the beach road & you'll find a nice quiet spot - the opposite way from the nudist beach!!!! You are spoilt for choice regarding tavernas and restaurants, but my favourites are "Dana's" (traditional) and "Ploi" (fish, seafood and traditional) who are side by side on the beach front to the left of the roundabout. I don't do English food so can't recommend for this. To be honest I don't think you would have a bad meal anywhere - especially if you ate what the locals know best! Sevi is the best for car hire, and the Greek night at Fantasia in Zia is an absolute must to hear real Greek music and see the traditional costumes and dances - my son loved it and tucked into the food which seemed never ending and yummy! I recommend to drink the wine there with coca-cola, it is a bit like retsina which not everyone likes. Be warned that a trip to Turkey you leave your passport in their passport control and it is MEGA hot, but worthwhile to visit the castle/museum and Turkish baths, not just the market and the "bargains" which are not as good as they used to be. Kalymnos and the sponge factories are good, with Pserimos a delight, but the volcanic island of Nissyros is out of this world! You can actually walk on the surface of a live volcano which you can boil an egg on/boil water on the surface and they filmed Moonraker there! Pregnant women cannot go and it stinks of sulphur (what a surprise!) On Kos you may see newly qualified doctors swearing the Hippocratic oath at the Asclepion - Hippocratus' hospital , and a re-enactment of the ancient ceremony complete with costumes and music - amazing! Kos is a perfect holiday destination for all ages and I would recommend the Angela for its cleanliness, room sizes, location and very friendly staff - everything in fact!!
Basic but clean
from tigger65
Just spent a fortnight at the above, had a great time and by back is now straightened out. The apartments are basic with twin “beds”, kitchen area (including a kettle) and WC/Shower. The beds are pretty poor with a mattress supported on loose planks so none of the 6 of us there got a decent sleep, eventually we got a hotel in Kos Town so we could get some sleep. Apart from the beds no complaints with the rooms, if you can get a room looking South then you can get a view of the Mountains rather than the scrub land in front. The bar is good except for the lack of drinkable wine. The staff are great though hence my good score. The pool is large enough but a bit chilly! There is a small discount booze store adjacent and a corner shop just check your change as one of our group was short-changed. Also watch the costs of the Air Con as the records are a bit haphazard and you will be charged for a full week unless you can prove better. Over the road is a café which you can occasionally get a 10% discount, the food is basic but good value and the owner George will always make you welcome, and tell you some fishy tales, look out for the terrapins on the way in. Good location if a bit noisy by the pool a safe bet which is handy for the bars
Was hotel Angela good? well the kitchen utensils were not all that good and the maid did not come as often as she said she would. George was very funny but does not always like it if you go out all the time because he likes it if you eat at his Restaurant. The swimming pool... more
