Ioli Village was OK for us

My wife myself and six year old, stayed here during the last two weeks in Aug, we booked through Thomas Cook. Overall we were happy, and in-line with expectations. The accommodation is fine no frills. I think the air conditioning options need to be considered prior to booking though. Some rooms have air conditioning units in the Bedrooms, but we had to pay 10 euros per day for the privilege. It would have been unbearable with it. The temperature was 40 plus for the entire two weeks. The other option was to hire fans on tall stands. The rooms were cleaned regularly. Our rooms were over the on-site Supermarket, with balconies front and back. We had no noise problems at all. The pool area was very good, the pool both kids and main was more than adequate and was clean. The bar and snack area was substantial, and under cover, the staff were very friendly. Music played around the pool, but not to loudly. Mostly English stayed here, but there were several Greeks, and eastern Europeans. General behaviour was good by all nationalities, with a comfortable atmosphere.
As for Pefkohori I it was above my expectations. A family friendly resort with a great atmosphere. It is largely a seaside town for Greeks. Not too many English this year, plenty of eastern Europeans, again because of the proximity to the Balkan countries and beyond. The beaches are fantastic and the sea shelves quite gently, perfect for kids, the sea mostly like a mill pond while we were there. The restaurants we used were all excellent, and again mostly Greek, although there are Pizza restaurants for variation. No Indian, Chinese, Mac Donald’s. All the menus are in Greek and English. This is a sizable resort with plenty to interest most. Plenty of ATM’s so no need for travellers checks. We used a loaded Thomas Cook Euro cash card. (Mastercard)Plenty of Internet Cafes/Bars to stay in touch with the outside world.
Great restaurants, we returned often to the Alicia restaurants just opposite the Maxim restaurant. The Alicia had a children’s soft play area and as with most restaurants there is a great kids menu. In the Old village area, there is Paul’s Place perhaps the only English style Pub we came across. (English, breakfast, Fish and Chips, even Pukka Pie’s!) Paul no longer runs it, but two English girls have taken over. We ate at many of the Greek restaurants and the food was consistently good. We tried the Maxim restaurant just because everyone mentions it. Yes it really is worth trying too. The service and food are very good in deed. All the food is home cooked, including Greek dishes that only they serve. Had A Stifado and another similar dish with vegetables here. That was part of a set menu option for 2 at 22.50 euro’s including a side dish, chips a salad, a pudding and half a carafe of wine. The dishes were extremely good and deserve a mention here.
As it was so hot when we went we decided not to do many trips, we did the Boat trip over to Sithonia, via Turtle Island. This was a good day trip the highlight was a stop at Toroni Bay. A beautiful little resort with the most picturesque beach imaginable. We took a bus to Hanioti, but wish we hadn’t bothered, sorry this place was not for us, a slightly younger vibe. A bit tacky for my liking. Many of the other trips are a long way off, so involve long coach journeys.
We did not like the traffic in Pefkohori, the main coastal road runs through the centre of town, and it’s very difficult to cross, very dangerous, same in the off main road area’s narrow and bad and ignorant drivers, the scooter brigade are just as bad.
Really enjoyed Pefkohori, and rate it quite highly, just below Cephalonia.

Room cleaned every day except sundays.we were charged £40 per fortnight for the use of a fan and £40 for a safety deposit box which was a bit pricey if you ask me .pool nice and pirate trip was excellent, children really enjoyed the day out.Very limited menu at pool bar.Thomas cook rep changed after first week but both reps were very good.beach a little crowded but we were able to find a space every time.Local food excellent and did not struggle to find food for our 4 year old.overall we had a very enjoyable holiday.

We had a fantastic time here. The two weeks we had were not enough.
Appartments clean, spacious and comfey. All the staff were warm and friendly especialy Demitree the pool barman.
The resort is full of great resturants El Grekos, and Pizza Capri being the top of the list to try.
Ioli appartments are a family friendly place to be and the people on hol there this year were great.Even better was that all the children from 3yrs to 15yrs
played together and looked after each other.
we will be going back and Liam and Libby say hi to anyone and everyone who was there.

We only booked this holiday two weeks...

We only booked this holiday two weeks before we went as Thomas Cook overbooked us in corfo. Me and my family had convinced ourselves that this holiday being so last minute would be crap. How wrong can you be..
As soon as we got to the room we felt at home, our 1st floor appt had both front and back balconies and had stormbug shutters as well as glass doors. The week before we got to the resort it had been 45 degrees but we had a constant 35-38 with 1 overcast day.
The kids pool was perfect for my 4 years old son Nicholas and we could leave him to play without much worrying. The main pool goes to 2.7 metres which is deep for most greek pools. I did get an ear infection but i'm under water most of the time and get one every year anyway.
The maid came every day and we didn't have any problem with cleaniness at all.
We liked the resort and found the greeks to be amongst the most friendly we have come across. They would give you stuff for free which is very rare for any greek toursit spots. Halkidiki is a place used by the greeks to holiday and so its not just tourists. The beach was ok, small stones and sea very warm, people would swim at 11pm while we had dinner.
By far the best bit of the overall holiday was how friendly people were, brits, staff and the Ioli and in general.
A special mention has to go to everyone at the pool bar but in particular Rosa and Annette. My little boy was completly taken with both of them and they could'nt do enough to make you feel welcome.
It was my wife's birthday while we were there and they helped me throw together some fuss for her, which really made it special. Go to the bakers for fresh cakes, they are wonderful.
We met Martin and his family while we were there and my son nicholas still has the ice lolly squirter martin gave him.
Everyone we met had a great time and was gutted to come home. We have vowed to go back in 2010 and we never return to the same destination twice, so that gives you a view of how much we enjoyed it.
In case anyone reads this that we met while we were there, big hi from Jeff, George and Nicholas..
Massive thank you to Anna, Rosa and Annette, hopefully we will meet again some day.

Just got back from 2 great weeks in...

Just got back from 2 great weeks in the Ioli Village with my wife and 2 kids and can honestly say that as far as accomodation at this price range in Greece go, this was as good as they come.
The staff on the site were fantastic (Thanks Anna, Annette and Rosa) and were always willing to help or point in the right direction. The gardens were immaculate and the pool area was very clean and child friendly. I hardly saw a child slip all week, like you do around most pools. Poolside food and drink was basic takeaway/snack food, but was very nice, and very well priced. The same applies for the restaurant, which had a good range of Greek and international food.
Pefkohori itself was very nice. One main road, and a long beachside promenade with the usual shops, bars and tavernas. Food standards are excellent, with the usual local and international restaurants and fast food joins, and we never had a bad meal all fortnight, although I would really recommend 'El Greco' for typical Greek food.
I would like to take this opportunity to address some of the complaints made about the Ioli and Pefkohori in other forums
Packs of dogs roaming the streets - Yes, there are dogs, as there are in most greek towns, but I wouldn't say they were roaming in packs. We weren't approached by a single dog in the whole fortnight.
Cats in the Ioli - Again, there is a family of cats, but almost everyone fell in love with them, and they provided massive entertainment for avery young girl in the complex - If you don't like cats, just keep out of the way!
Anna in the Ioli is always drunk - Anna is a teetotaller, but very upfront, so sometimes appears loud - She is also the most professional front desk person I have come across.
Apartments are dirty - Cleaners in nearly every day, but let's be honest, they aren't going to get on their hands and knees and do a deep clean - It wasn't spotless, but we had no complaints at all.
Greeks in the resort are standoffish - Rubbish, Greeks have very different gestures to us, and are just being greek!! Try a few Greek words, they love it!
Pefkohori is dirty - It is a village which has had no rain for 3 months, so is bound to be dusty - It is no dirtier than any typical mediterranean area
It's too hot in the rooms - True, there was no aircon, but fans could be rented, but are cheaper to buy in the village. We didn't bother as we got used to the heat - Please note, it was in the early 40's for our entire stay, so you do need to be careful in the sun. Factor 40 a must for the kids.
My advice for all the people who have made these complaints is to go with the flow, chill out and crack open a Mythos. After all, it is Greece, and things are different there!
PS Annette, Rosa and Anna, Ben and Daisy say efharisto x

Hi.
We just got back from a 2 week stay in Ioli Village.
When we got there we wernt that impressed it was very dull in your rooms.
Didnt help when you had kittens and a cat at your apartment in the morning waking you up early.
There is no night time entertainment which is very disapointing and it can get very boring.
The pool is small and be carefull because you can get ear infections .... we did there are also wasps and flies in the water.
The snack bar was nice and 100% to dimetree the bar man he is very nice and always has a smile on his face he ,makes the best hot choclates :)
And Annette who also helps out she make you feel very welcome and always has a smile on her face 100%.
Bad thing is the resturants are crap !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0% at the beach the serving is pathetic they drag you in there for the money and forget your there always having to remind them of your meal or drinks you have ordered !!!! not on .
Resturants are pretty much the same .. crap and BEWARE of CHICKEN do not eat it in greece because they dont cook it through enough they rush it and its all from frozen over there many people have sufffered from it !!! thats what we heard and our friends we met there was not well for a couple of days. Just be carefull.
The sea is lovely and blue !!!! very warm we reached temps of 43 degrees very hot.
We DEFINATLY are not returning back there !!!!!!!!!!!!!
not the best .

Aug 2008, Mr NT Nagy

We were there with a 24-member group. They don't like groups, try to separate us. They told us that there are no rooms close to each others, it was not true. The place are nice, pool is good. The oil is used for breakfast eggs was old. We were there for one week. The main problem is that there are only few rooms with air conditions. You can sleep by night at open door, so if the others are talking, feeling well, You are disturbed.

just got back of a two week holiday to ioli village. was a bit apprehensive after reading reviews on here and was totally surprised. Me and my husband andthree girls age 11,12,15, plus two other sets of relatives had three ground floor apartments all close by each other. Not one of us had any complaints about it and it was kept clean with maids coming in every day. Our sheets were changed 6 times in two weeks where as my mum stayed next door at the petridis and never had them changed once in the week she was there. Very friendly staff at the pool, demitris was very welcoming. pool was clean and food was excellent. We ate a lot at the pool. Main restaurant was nice but the only fault i had was they cant cope with large groups. We all got fed seperatly with huge gap inbetween.Really enjoyed they fact that we could walk up to the pool at ten in morning and get a sunbed. A lot of foreigners in this apartments but quite a few english use it to. Never had any problems with them or noise, Aparment from the noisy binlorry which was true but u soon fell back asleep.Pauls place in the old square was very good place to eat and the greek bar by the church were very hospitable. WIll definitely be going back there soon.

Hi my family stayed at Ioli in June...

Hi my family stayed at Ioli in June 2008 for two weeks. We had two 1st floor apartments with a balcany at the front and back with lovely views of the very pretty complex gardens. Our apartments were clean and kept tidy by the excellent staff who came in most days. The pool area is as other people have mentioned really lovely, with views of the mountains in the distance. The staff at the pool bar are extremely friendly and helpful and gave us lots of good advice about where to go and what to see. We found Anna at reception to be helpful especially when our little boy fell and hurt himself she was really quick to sort him out and point us in the direction of the nearest Drs who were very efficient and competent. A special mention has to be made of Annette an english lady who works at the restaurant who always had a smile and a cheery hello, she made us feel so welcome and gave us lots of information and advice and was always ready to answer any questions that we had. Excellent service and good food at the restaurant on site but a special mention has also to be made about Captains Restaurant on the main road, where Pedros and Emi run a fantastic family friendly business producing great food within a lovely atmosphere, if you go there say hello to Mitros their pug dog who our children fell in love with and got to take for a walk every night, we really miss him. Very hot weather in the 40s when we went. Good resort, the crystal clear sea is gorgeous to swim in. Try the boat trips to Kelifos and Neo Marmaris, you get to swim in the sea off the island and its so clean there are little fish swimming around you its amazing. I have to say some of the Greek people in some of the resorts can be a bit standoffish but the majority were nice and we didn't let it spoil our time there. Have fun and a great holiday, hope we get to go back someday!

Ioli village is one of the best...

Ioli village is one of the best appartments I've been to so far. With friendly sstaff and animals, Ioli iis one of a kind. Unlike many other appartments, Ioli has close together balconies; making it more friendlier and sociable. I'm not sure about the 2nd and 3rd floor but, on the first you get a front and back terrace so you can follow the sun throughout the day. At night there are spectacular views of the fountain; which spray multicolourd water into the air. I don't know why people are saying it's too far away from everything, as the beach was barely even a 5 minute walk through the underpass - To be fair I don't recommend the beach as it is not sand, but stone and shale. It also has a large patch of rocks in the sea, which have sea urchins lurking inside ... Be wary! And the village square is just through the side streets, the shops and tavernas are all on the main road, over the underpass. The pool area is fantastic, it has views of the mountain tops and the pool is splendid for cooling down and basking in the warm sun. People say it gives you ear infection, but me and many other people have been under the water and never once had trouble with our ears. Maybe other people got it because they didn't go under the shower first, resulting in sun cream being washed off and infecting the pool. The supermarket for locals and residents at Ioli is brilliant, it sells anything you need and usually had the current paper and magazines in stock. The cafe/resteraunt is really usefull if you want a cheap meal to fill you up. And the reception, who mainly has Anna there who is mistaken for Sharon Osbourne because of her hair, is very very welcoming. As for the rooms, absolutely perfect. They are provided with a free cot, shower curtain, walk-in waldrobe and a kettle and toaster. Extremely clean and comfortable.
Message to anyone going: If you stay in rooms 110, 111 or 112 - Please feed the cats! I got very attatched as their so loveable ... And if you see a cat with striped markings all down its back with a tiny whitepatch and green eyes, with little white feet which we call back cat (as it usually lives at the back of our appartment) Please look after her. Shes so friendly we let her stay in our appartment over night. Look after her and the ginger tom cat, he's so skinny when we stroked him we could feel his ribs. And he has been in alot of fights and now has two scars on either side of his neck.
Thank you for reading, enjoy your stay at Ioli.

Went to Ioli Village last September....

Apr 2008, Miss H Jacks

Went to Ioli Village last September. Apartments were OK, quite big but could do with a bit of paint and new curtains! Rooms are very basic but in a very pretty surrounding. I would not go back to Halkidiki as I think it was geared up for the Greek tourists and was quite tacky with the big fairground etc on the beach. I prefer the traditional prettier Greek resorts.
Lots of restaurants lined up on the beach. We hired a car which I would really recommend as this is the best way to get around and see things. We found gorgeous beaches driving on the main road.
