Sep 2011, Olga's fooled us

First we have to explain that our stay overhere was a gift we received , we didn't make the booking ourselves.
We had read lots of awfull reviews about Olga's, before coming here. Our first impression was that they were over excessive, but with a little experience, you begin to understand.
We had to stay in a self catering studio near the street, with 2 soup plates and 1 big plate, 3 knives and forks, 2 spoons, 2 glaces and 2 coffee mugs.
There was no courtain on the handshower and the toilet was leaking, so the bathroom was wet all day, if we didn't shut the toilet off. There were no drainplugs for the sink and nothing at all to wash or clean. We bought some cloths in the nearby supermarket to do some small cleaning (to stop the water from running into the bedroom).
We were so lucky to have great weather (over 35° in 2nd half sept.) but with that the misfurtune of an overheated room with no air at all at night (and no airco), so, after the 2th sleepless night, we asked Dina in the afternoon for an airco to rent (as we read this to be possible, on the internet). Dina promised us to bring 1 to our room before 6 PM. We went out for dinner at about 6.30 to return at 9 PM, finding no "airco" in our room, so we went back to ask Olga, who was in the bar at that time. She answered "no possible today, tomorrow; Dina too busy today", (doing what ?) Both ladies where on the terras all day, drinking with guests, everytime you came near the pool, you found them this way. Even when we said there were 3 ventilators (that's what they sell for airco) at only 10 meters from our room, and proposed to her that we could eventually take one ourselves; same answer : "no possible today, tomorrow". We went, dissapointed, back to our room; but after an hour of having even difficulties breathing in the overheated room, we went back and as the vents were still there, untouched, we took one. None of them ever came back on the subject, neither did we.
Our room was not cleaned for a week, the claening lady came in twice that week to empty the bin, but nothing more. Nor were the sheets or towels replaced in our week. The pool looks very clean, yet they didn't even take the time to sweap the surrounding terras. On the playground (garden) next to the pool, you have some (6 or 7) chickens running around, leaving their dirt for guests to step in. If asked, I could upload foto's.
In short, the resort has great possibilities, could be a great succes, when well maintained, but just that is the real problem. The slogan "costumer (guest or client) is king" is not applicable here, but Olga and Dina are "real queens" overhere.
The are friendly, as long as you spend enough money in the bar, if not ......
We had a great time at Kos, but returning to Olga's ? I don't think so, unless they begin to think about the satisfaction of the guests first.

we were very disappointed with the originally room when we arrived as it was not as advertised. so we asked to upgrade rooms and were prepared to pay but were shocked when Olga said the only room would be 150 euros for the week. we could not believe it and tried to get the price reduced but she would only go down to 130 euros, which according to the tarrif in the room was twice the price even in high season , which it was not. however we did not see that until afterwards. unfortunately we were desperate to change the original room and we wanted to have a room with a balcony , which we thought we had booked anyway, so we had to pay the price. This appt was fine but lacked kitchen equipment and utensils , the cooker was basic (large and very small ring), and although the bins were emptied every day , that was the only thing that was done. no cleaning was done and no clean bed linen for a week.

well, where shall i start, i have just returned from a holiday in the beautiful island of kos,and had a lovely time, but that is only due to the fact that after just 6 hours of being in this hotel we had to check into another hotel as we found that this was just totally unacceptable accommodation. We booked this hotel over the internet and we thought it looked very nice, the hotel was advertised as being set within beautiful grounds and the pictures of the rooms and pool looked very nice we had requested a nice view ,but on arrival were really upset and disappointed .We arrived in the early hours of the morning and walked down the drive past a very old building to a small but nice looking hotel and pool to be greeted by a lady. She went with some other guests that had arrived with us and another man told us to follow him to our room, but to our surprise we did nt get taken anywhere near the hotel, but back down the drive, down some steps to the back of this old building, and let into a room. This was the worst room i had ever been expected to stay in, we know that this wasn't an expensive holiday, but the package had cost us just under £600 for 7 nights self catering and the hotel had been advertised as a 3 star with pictures of nice rooms. We immediately had asked to change rooms to stay in the hotel that we had booked, but were told that it was fully booked and only that room was available we also asked about the air conditioning as it had been advertised and were told it was broken,( it hadn't even been installed!). We went back to the awful room, for a further inspection , the fridge didn't work and a towel had been placed around it as water leaked over the floor, the electric points were hanging out of the walls exposing live wires, the window didn't shut but also the shutters on the outside didn't open, the toilet stunk of sewerage and hadn't been cleaned, but as we were really tired and had no where else to go, so slept in the room. We were woken in the morning by what we thought was other people talking in our room, as we could hear everything they were saying,it turned out that our room was part of someone else's and that a wardrobe had been pushed in front of the adjoining door so there was absolutely no privacy , also the light switch was behind this door, we opened the curtain (only one of a pair that didn't cover the whole window) to the french doors and our view was a plastic table and chairs that were being used by some builders that were also digging up the road about 15 foot from our room. We tried the shower which didn't fix to the wall and realised that it was freezing, this was the last straw, we collected our bags and went 100 meters down the road and checked into a very nice hotel called the Alexander beach , with very helpful staff clean accommodation and air conditioning.I am sure that the actual hotel and pool of Olgas paradise are probably quite nice but there is no guarantee that you will get to stay in the rooms advertised. I felt that this was totally false advertising and would definately not recommend it to anyone, thankfully we were able to have available funds to pay for other accommodation, but if we hadn't we would have had a really terrible time people work hard to be able to afford a holiday and expect to get what had been advertised would you take the risk ?

Freezing showers, no air con, never again

Aug 2011, Surby

The apartment was large and basic but was fine for the price. We were in the older buildings so I do not know how they differ from the newer ones near the pool. We were expecting air conditioning but there was none, which for our 2 small children was a nightmare. When we arrived at 4am we were told that the room key was stuck in the door. Which meant in the morning we had to leave all our belongings in the unlocked apartment. When we questioned this the older lady who helps run things was very unhelpful and dismissive. We holiday every year in Greece & found her general attitude very surprising. It wasnt fixed for another day. The towels were changed maybe once in 7 days. The sheets which were covered in mosquito blood were never changed. Oh and before I forget we never had hot water. The freezing cold showers are probably one of the lasting memories of this holiday. Apparently they did get warm around 5pm (we asked our neighbours) but we were off exploring the island & didnt want to be held in check by this. On the positive side the pool was nice as was the location, an easy cycle into Kos. But never again will we come here!! Oh and we had to buy our own toilet roll which was a first...

me and my boyfriend stayed at the olga apartments we loved the pool, very very clean, apartment very basic!its my fifth time to kos,kos town and only wanted somewhere cheap to crash as my dad and stepmum live in psaldi just up the road from the olga's,to be honest the apartments are basic but i have no complaints because the price reflects it if i wanted five star accomodation then i wud've booked five star!!!You can always upgrade to the superior apartments if you really not happy with the basic apartments.Olga and di were very friendly and always happy to help the snack prices are overly priced compared to the rest of the apartments in the area but the greeks will always welcome you into there hotels/apartments as long as you buy a drink or snack. Will most definately be using the olga apartments next year its excellent value for money and you cannot fault the pool.

Awesome Week at Olgas

me and my boyfriend have just got back from spending a week at Olgas and we had such a relaxing time, and in the area there is so much you can do or little if you prefer.
We were there a week, when we were there it we found it overall lovely. The pool was clean and also very quiet and peaceful. The snacks werent that great 4 euros for a microwaved potatoe with a bit of cheese so was dissappointed with that!! also we had to pay 20 euros for the safe :-(
The accomodation was very basic but it was clean although they didnt change our beds or towels until day 5!!! but the cleaners did come in every single day. Cant really say its self catering with 2 hobs to cook with and very little equipment, utlensils or anything to clean / wash up with etc and the sink didnt have a plug. There was nothing to wash your pots with and no toilet roll, you literally have to bring everything but the kitchen sink or spend a fortune in the local shop (pounds to euros are pretty bad and we found it very exspensive)
Dina and Olga are very friendly and helpful and will give you their time! As our transfer dropped us at the wrong accomodation we didnt get there til 4am to be greeted by Dina with a smile and was very helpful!
I would go there again, it was cheap accomodation but there are a few things that could be improved but it was a fab holiday and very relaxing indeed

Kos is a place which can be relaxing or lively, you have the choice. The area around the town, Psalidi and Lambi is accessible on foot but it’s easier by bike. Then you can move on to explore farther afield and get to the cheaper supermarkets. A quad bike enables travel throughout the island with little difficulty, although a small quad might prevent travelling up some of the steeper roads.
We made our third visit to Kos in June and went to Olga’s Paradise apartments for the third time!
Having spent many holidays in Greece, as a family and latterly just my wife and me, we’ve stayed in most types of holiday accommodation. The standard of the apartments I can’t honestly say is the best we’ve stayed in but it ranks as a close second. However, the complex itself ranks as the best for this grade of accommodation. It’s modern, spacious and clean. The bar is a bit austere but it has character and atmosphere provided by Dina!
The family work hard to maintain high standards, they listen to their guests, they are helpful and they try their best to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable stay with them. If there’s some problem or you want advice, either with the accommodation or your holiday generally, talk to Olga or Dina. They will genuinely try to help you and not just respond with a dismissive, Greek shrug of the shoulders.
We were looking forward to returning in September but couldn’t find a suitable flight (We went to Sissi, Crete; see our review of Maria’s apartments.) but we will return and continue to recommend having a holiday at Olga’s.

Paradise it is not!!! we arrived after our flight was delayed and olga herself was out watering the grass!! she hardly spoke any english and pointed out our tin, stuffy apartment!! yes the cleaners came in daily but i can assure you they do not change your bedding its simply turned over and remade!! we paid 20 euros for a "safety deposit box" which is simply a small filing cabinet!! we misplaced the key on our 2nd day and were then told by olga she had no spare key!! all our money and passports etc were in the "safe" we then had to wait 2days for her to get someone to come out and reset the whole cabinet which she then charged us for!! there is no way ther was no key!! Olga herself was very very rude and unhelpful!we also found that after speaking to afew locals including nearby hotels, resturants and shops that she is not very well liked in the local community! its a shame we didnt know all this before! plus the the pool was not cleaned at all! I enjoyed kos itself but as for the hotel i would never recommend it to anyone.

My daughter, 2 grandkids and myself stayed at Olgas paradise apts. The apts were great. Very clean, cleaners everyday. The pool was excellent. The bar was also good, very reasonable. The complex was also very clean. Our thanks to Dina & Olga for making us very welcomed. Dina is greatttttttt, so much so, she became a friend. Sindy (the gobby dog) was lovely and Rocky, sorry dina if ive spelt that wrong. The beach was about 10 mins, but would recommend walking further up as the beach was shail, and very rocky in the front of the beach, futher up was sand. The mini market is about 5 mins down the road and has everything you would need. If they didnt, ask and they will get it for you. We will definately go back (hopefully next year). Well done Dina.

We arrived at Olga's Paradise Apartments at 3am and although there were nobody up at that time, there was a board with our name on it with easy directions to our room, which we thought really helpful.
The following morning we were greeted by Olga, who was very pleased to meet us and very friendly. Later that day we met Dina who we took an instant liking to and not only did she make us feel welcome and was very helpful, but she has also become a friend.
The rooms are kept extremely clean, the maids came in every day and they were also friendly, they didn't speak good english but even so they always made an effort and you could understand what they were trying to say.
At the start of our holiday, me and my partner spoke about lots of excursions, day trips and visits to other beaches during our stay in Kos, however, after spending the first day around our pool in the hotel, we enjoyed the relaxing, layed back atmosphere so much, with Olga and her husband Mike's warm and friendly, always pleased to see you welcome in the mornings, followed by the never a dull moment, great conversations and laugh a minute Dina in the afternoons, we ended up spending almost everyday by the pool. Olga returned around 6pm to hold the fort while Dina went home to get ready for the night's.
Kos town is about a 20 minute walk or there is a regular bus which costs 1 euro and takes about 5 minutes. What alot of people do is hire bicycles, they cost 3 euros a day and if you want it for a week it is only 15 euros. The closest beach is 5 minutes from Olga's and it's about a 3 minute walk to the supermarket which sells everything you could possibly want.
We usually went out for dinner then returned to Olga's afterwards for drinks with Dina, they were generous measures, good prices (and lots of ouzo courtesy of Dina) until the early hours of the morning.
Also during our stay we met some really great people who we plan to stay in touch with. We have already booked to return next year and possibly later this year.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...dont believe any of the bad reviews, we couldn't believe what we were reading when we read some of them. It's called paradise and thats simply what it is.
Kos is fab, the apartments were beautiful, Olga, Mike and Dina were fantastic and our stay was paradise.
Big THANKS to Olga & Mike, Dina & Spiros, Cindy & Rocky (Dina's 2 gorgeous doggy's), also THANKS to Joe & Chris, & Ian & Wendy. We had a fab time, hope to see you all again soon. X

Paradise Found

Having arrived at around 3.00am we werent as suprised as some to find the place dark and a little quite. The unlit drive that slopes down toward the hotel is lined on both sides by fig, olive, lime, lemon and passion fruit trees, as is almost every other tree on this beautiful island! Hiring a bike is a must this is psalidi not kos! though kos town and the harbour is only a 40 minute walk away- 10 mins on a bike. If you like your beaches quite theres one or two at the bottom of the road that would suit you, if you prefer it bustlier then the ones in kos town are throbbing with plenty of water sports to build up a thirst and bars to quench it! If you do get bikes its worth the effort to cycle a little further up the hill (weak legged girlfriends can be left at the poolside) beyond the apartments the veiws across the sea on to Turkey are pretty cool and the road opens up to some rustic countryside. The room itselve was nice and big, pretty basic and was cleaned every day a little skimpy on cutlarey and plates though, but we ate out most nights anyway. Other than that we had no complaints. Mosquitos and bugs the size of fridges have to be expected in this part of the world but if your carefull you should be okay. The pool was nice and peaceful and very clean. Olga and her daughter were very nice and always ready to help with any complaints or queries. Theres lots to do along in kos town. We went on the three island tour which took us to some unbeleivibly beautiful and isolated places. That was only 19euros and included a barbeque. We also went to Bodrum in Turkey for a day aswell which I would recommend and there is a water park on the island too. The nightlife is good not too busy definetly not too quiet and there is plenty of nice places to eat. To sum up if your looking for five star luxuary then your best looking elsewere but if your after a nice peacefull fun filled holiday in a picturesque setting this ticks all the boxes!
