Having read the reviews I was a bit worried before staying at this hotel, however we were not disappointed at all. Seriously, those who slated it, what are you expecting? It's 2* Greece... you get what you pay for. The staff were polite and helpful, the pool was clean, the location was fantastic (5 minute walk from amenities, yet quiet at night). We did get a fair amount of mosquitoes in the room but this was our own fault for leaving the balcony door open. Room was quite hot at night but you could hire fans from reception.
Perfect for young couples wanting affordable, basic accommodation which is close to all ameneties in a lively area of Kos.

Sep 2008, Miss L Holder

I would not reccomend this hotel to anybody, We booked up for 2 weeks we had read the reviews before booking but thought we would risk it as some people complain about silly things so we thought the pool looked nice and chanced it. upon entering the room my friend was bitten at least 30times within the first hour of arrivng in the room the manageress said there were no fans left to rent and had to wait 4 days until change over day!
our first trip to the pool and we were greated by a very very rude man that demanded to go through our nags to make sure we did not have any food or drink from outside, he shouted we must not bring from outside and said we must not dive even though pool was about 12ft deep. the food by the pool was awful and if you leave your lilo by the pool over night you will surly find it has been popped by the owner and left by the side of the pool...The breakfast was appalling it was a rock hard roll and a slice of cheese and ham the tea was like water and not worth getting up for.
I could go on and on the staff are very rude and i felt like it was like school boarding staying there at night when we would come in the manager would say shhh go to sleep and knock on our door at night to make sure we had no people in our room!
I would go back to kardamena but not this hotel it was a total nightmare i witnessed a lady covered in bedbugs and it made me feel so sick they were all inside her skin from a dirt matress from this hotel!
PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!

Sep 2008, Miss P Room

please do not go to this hotel. it is the worse flea pit i have ever stayed in. the rooms are filthy the bedding wasnt changed once all week. when you turn the shower on you can smell the drains and sewers coming up through the plug. i had to go out and buy bleach and fly spray to decontaminate the room. i got my first bite on my first night thinking it was mossies, how wrong could i be. they were bed bugs. i nearly had to go to hospital as they were infected. i took the pillow case off to check out the pillows and they were stained dirty brown. the staff were really unapproachable and rude especially the pool guy. the bar man hamlet is a little aggresive man who shouted and swore at us for laughing at night time whilst we were sat outside having a drink........hello we are on holiday. dont waste your money on this hell hole seriously. i read the reviews before i went but thought some were bad and some were good so decided to give it a go. big mistake believe me the bad ones are 100 per cent true. your best bet is to get a flight out there then go and find some accomodation when you get there because we found loads of lovely little appartment for 200 euros for two weeks and that is for two people not each. overall kos is fab just dont stay at the mikargy or the bed bugs will bite

This the worst hotel I have ever...

Aug 2008, Miss JL Smith

This the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!! The staff are the rudest people I have ever met. A few days in to the holiday we attempted to go to the pool..the pool man confronted us before we even got anywhere near the pool area telling us no drinks were allowed in the area and that he wished to search our bags. We were disgusted by this and refused only to have him screaming and swearing at us, telling us to go and find a different hotel. Later a friend was enquiring as to the whereabouts of the rep, the pool man squared up to her and inches from her face began to scream at her eventually making her cry.
The bathroom was really small, with the toilet incredibly close to the shower. The showers were freezing, however this is common for Kos as the water is heated by solar panels. The shower curtain doesnt work meaning the whole bathroom gets soaked. Be careful when using towels and with bed linen as you may well be charged for getting it dirty.
The rooms are rather basic, but for a young persons holiday, quite suitable. Fridges were not provided meaning we were constantly buying water. The room was extremely hot, however fans could be hired from reception for 3 euros a day, but they can be bought cheaper.
The rep wasn't really that helpful, and the hours she was avaliable were minimal.
Do Not go to this hotel!!! Kardamena is a lovely place to be, the weather is wonderful, the food gorgeous and the people (outside of the hotel) are friendly.

Aug 2008, Mr M Haywood

Came back today, sunday. the hotel is very basic. The cleaning lady also doubles to serve breakfast without washing hands in between jobs. Breakfast is only from 0730 to 0915 and if you want a refill tea/coffee, get it before 0910 otherwise it is all tidied away. Breakfast conists of watered down orange, tea / coffee make your own, 2 bread rolls, ham/cheese from under a piece of foil, a small carton of butter and a carton of runny jam. no entertainment. noisy busy main raod. no proper facilities for changing if you have a very late flight - 4-15 a.m, (unless you wish to extend the room from noon to 20-00 hours for another 25 euros ). no paper towels, bedroom floor was dirty. won't go back there again

This is probably one of the worst hotels ive stayed in how this place got a 2 star rating is beyond me. Basic accomidation isnt the word!!!!. There isnt even any hot water even when its mid day when the solar panels that heat the water should be working . Breakfast consists of a shot glass of orange juice and 2 bread rolls seriously this place is a joke. I would of had a better holiday if it wasnt for staying in this rat trap.

Jul 2008, Mr J Merry

Firstly Dont let my comments put you off going to Kardamena. Kardamena is a really nice place that can only be ruined by spending a week or two in such a squat!
The rooms are appauling, there is no frige, so you are constantly buying water from the bar, which may aswell be holy water as it is so expensive! Also there is no air conditioning, althought you can buy a fan at the reception for 3 euros a day! The water is solar powered, so dont expect a warm shower, in fact, I had two hot showers all holiday!
The staff are pathetic, the manager who run the pool area is horrible. He cooks awful food whilst smoking a cigarette, very nice! If you buy refreshments from the shop and tae them to the pool, he will take them from you and throw them away. The night man at the bar is called Hamlet. He calims to be from Russia and sinlge, but he is from Armenia and is married with two children. At first he will be nice and polite to you. As soon as you becaome his friend he will try to bully and manipulate you. One night he was banging on my friends door with a baseball bat because of an argument over water!
The Mikargy is not a place that families should stay, it seems to be a place for young groups, and the kids pool is laughable.
We were given inward views by the travel agents but there arent any sea views, the view we had was of the main road, so if you like to lie in in the morning, forget about it.
As I said before, dont let my comments put you off visiting Kardamena, it really is a nice place. Jus think twice about where you want to stay when you get there.

Just got back from a week at the...

Jun 2008, Mr D Avery

Just got back from a week at the Mikargy. I was a bit worried before I went having read some of the reviews. However I had a great time.
The staff first of all were really welcoming. They always said hello and if I had any questions they were always answered.
The Hotel is basic, but what do you expect in Greece? The rooms have bare white walls and the furniture looks old fashioned, but it's comfortable enough. People have said they find the rooms hot, well i left my window open, but the shutters locked all day and it cooled down bit. The rooms could do with a fridge and Air con, but it is stated that they don't in the brochure! The Hot water - never had a problem with it, you did need to let the shower run for a long time, but it was always hot in the end! Again typical of solar Heating in Greece, the water is hotter, the hotter the weather has been.
My room did overlook a road (again stated in the brochure) during the day you do get the buzz of Mopeds and Quad Bikes running up and down, but at night, it is fairly quiet. It didn't bother me anyway.
The pool area is fantastic a lovely pool and loads of sun beds. As per most places in Greece (or anywhere) you can't take your own food by the pool and this is rigourously enforced. The drinks were a little pricey, but not the most expensive I encountered.
A nice touch at the end of the holiday, I'd paid for a late checkout, which entitles you to keep the room until 9pm (my flight wasn't until 4am) when I went to hand the key in at 9pm I was told to keep the room until my coach came - no extra charge.
So - If you are looking for a basic "Greek Style" hotel that won't cost the earth and is in a good location, just on the edge of the resort. The Mikargy will do you fine. If you are expecting luxury, then it won't but I seriously doubt you will find much better for the price.
I had a great week!

May 2008, Miss S.F Batey

Went in july 2007 for 2 weeks with the boyfriend, only thing this hotel has going for it is the pool. Beware of the scary pool man if you're visiting from another hotel. He will ambush you and make you buy something before you even pick a sunlounger. Food in pool bar was extremely basic, i'm talking tuna butties and sweaty bacon rolls. Its alright for a snack. Might as well go the hotel across the road and get a fry up for cheaper!
In the whole two weeks our room was cleaned three times and towels changed four times, we actually complained a few times too, and it still wasn't done. We ended up cleaning the towels ourselves. Toilets were rank, and when we arrived there the bins hadn't been changed, so who knows what else was left?
No A/C or fridge. DO NOT HIRE A FAN! BUY ONE FROM THE SUPERMARKET BRAND NEW FOR 20 EURO! Also, find a nice bar rep and leave it with them cos their accomodation is crap!
Don't stay here, it's the worst hotel ever. Everyone we spoke to by the pool said it was awful...

Jan 2008, Mr R Breen

Probably the best holiday I've had. The Mikargy Hotel is basic but that's expected anywhere in Greece. Argy the owner is a legend, we got on from day one. The Mikargy has the cleanest pool (thanks Ivan) and its a total sun trap.
All in all had a quality holiday and if I'm totally honest was made better by Argy and Ivan... if your not here this year Ivan good luck in the states and Argy we will be back.

Nov 2007, Miss N Radcliffe

First thing I would say is DO NOT go to this hotel. The staff are rude and abusive, the only nice one being the Bulgarian guy!
We were shouted at and shunned for daring to complain when all the water went off in the hotel at 7pm! The heat in the rooms are unbearable, you have to hire a fan just to be able to breathe in there, we had to wait 2 days to get a fan and were not allowed to get one outside of the hotel.
The rooms were filthy, full of mosquitos and mosquito blood on the walls, also lots of ants everywhere!
The only good thing about this hotel is the pool, it’s nice and clean and really big, with a pick of sun loungers all day!
Kos itself is fab! The resort is as busy or as quiet as you want it! Lots of nightlife and delicious restaurants, definitely check out BLUE NOTE and NEMO'S, in fact try them all cos there wasn't one we didn't like!! Just book a different hotel!
