Me and 8 of my mates went to tenerife for two weeks in june 2009 - the holiday in general was amazing!
We were a bunch of 18 year olds so we weren't exactly expecting luxury, the apartments are basic, but they were very clean, the maid came every two-three days with toilet roll and towels and made the beds and generally cleaned up after us.
They took a 30 euro deposit off us when we arrived, and they withheld 60 euros at the end because our apartment was trashed and the balcony table wrecked.
They reception staff are pleasant, they exchanged our travellers cheques as well for a reasonable rate. Our mates wanted to change there room on the first night because they didnt want to be on the bottom floor and the staff happily obliged. Only thing was one of them wouldnt let you play music after midnight.
Be warned that with Thomas Cook the rep (who is an old les dennis wannabe) takes you for a "Welcome Meeting" which is him basically trying to sell you all these excursions, we found it better to do our own thing.
The pool area was good and there was a bar. About a ten minute walk to the beach and strip.
Also the people above us were apparently robbed, but we dont know how much truth was in that.
BASICALLY THESE APARTMENTS ARE PERFECT FOR A SUMMER BOOZE UP FOR THE BOYS HOLIDAY!!
YOU WONT REGRET BOOKING UP HERE, AND FOR WHAT YOU PAY IT IS IDEAL.

Been back from tenerife for two weeks now and wanna go back!
The optimist is okay but made my holiday cause of the people we met there- do not stay there if you are a family or a couple!!! best for big groups of singles who wanna get messy.
Noe entertainment at all, and the staff dont care what u do. we drank all day by the pool, blared out our own music and were v v loud but they didnt even come out you never see them. reception staff are reeeally moany and never smiled once. theyre safe to leave a key with though but deff get a safe. maids came about 3 times but only changed the towels never made beds or washed up or anything. i caught one smoking one day but just laughed and smoked one of my own.
The clubs are immense- tramps and mett bar arent that good but linekers and rags and voodoo r brill, and flirts is good for an eighties dance. Georges round the road is good to eat in and george is lovely, gives u free sambuca shots in the mornin hence we were constantly drunk lol. 8 lads and 5 girls had the best holiday ever and would deff go back again,
also- do not jump in the pool at like 2am or u get chased by security guard/ police. fun if u dont get caught!!!

Me and my boyfriend recently returned from playa de las americas and we loved every minute of it! However, the apartments could only be described as basic. We arrived at the Optimist around 9pm and it was dead, nobody around whatsoever. The man at reception didn't speak any english and shoved a piece of paper in our faces to sign and hand over a deposit. We had to find our own way to our room, he told us in spanish and wasn't bothered by our puzzled expressions!! The entrance to our room was pitch black and I just wanted to go home straight away. I couldn't see a pool bar or any form of entertainment but after some wandering around i managed to find it however its pointless even being there!
Our room was on the ground floor..and was very green! There were steps going up onto our balcony from the pool and it just didn't feel very secure. We decided to out straight away and try and enjoy the holiday..well we did!! It is about a 5-10 min walk tp the bars and restaurants...and pretty much over the road from a small supermarket. The restaurants are lovely and the bars are great. I would definitely recommend leonardos..nice staff and some good entertainment. Wasn't too keen on veronicas but the nightlife is great. Loro parque is a good day out aswell.
Overall optimist is ok for somewhere to sleep. We ate out for most meals so we were hardly in our apartment. There were no cockroaches which was lucky but we weren't too impressed that our bedding was only changed once. I definitely recommend going to tenerife though, great holiday :)

Just back from a girls holiday. These apartments are absolute garbage. They should just knock them down and start again. It's got two 'keys'(instead of stars) and they should have none.
We were on the top floor so we were pretty lucky to not have any cockroaches, but we did have an ant infestation that lived in the cracks of our bathroom tiles.
There was 5 of us and my bed was basically a thin mattress on a wall. Our electrics tripped all the time. The bathroom light switch gave two of us electric shock. The flush broke and had to take off the cistern to fix it ourselves. Oh and the shower head never stayed on the wall.....so we all had to shower one handed.
We only had to maids in once (the day before we left!) and we got like one toilet roll between 5 of us for the WHOLE weekend.
The pool bar is practically non existent!
The pool was nice, and probably the nicest bit about it!
The location isn't that great. The strip isn't THAT far, but the quickest way is down a street which we dubbed 'Rapist Alley'....
We only had one key for the room between 5 of us.
We signed up (because we felt we HAD to) to three of the events run by the reps. That was 100 euro gone straight away. The Bar Crawl....pointless. All you are paying for is the free 'shots' which just tasted like orange juice to us! Then you go round some bars...and thats it. We ended up going elsewhere and just doing it ourselves!
The Foam Party, which was up in an old castle....well we didn't make that... we weren't ready in time. Didn't know that it was outside the town and we felt if we went, we'd get stung for MORE money by the drinks being expensive, and being stranded somewhere if we weren't up for it.
The Booze Cruise was alright. Don't think I would do it again. The D.J was an annoying t***** and his voice made me want to rip my ears off and throw them at him. The drink is horrid (beer, wine, and some bizarre concoction) which we were only allowed to drink using our left hand or you had to down it.... Some really horrible drinking games...oh and it's documented via pics and a video! arrrrgh! So not our cup of tea.
We just didn't enjoy the whole 'timetable' aspect of it as we aren't the greatest at keeping to time.
The Reps on the street are REALLY annoying and even if you know where you're going they are really in your face. One of my friends got chased down the street!

Rags and Yates' - Good for drinks and the shot girls are really friendly.
Good holiday, luckily not spoiled by our rubbish accommodation.

I went to the optimist in a group of 4 girls. I absolutley hated this hotel! There were cockroaches everywhere in our room and we was there for a week and our room got cleaned once! Reception could not speak english and did not sort out our maid problem! The pool had no music or entertainment, but some people played their own music occasionally. But........... the nightlife was amazing, i had the best holiday ever ever ever!!!!!!! GO TO LINEKERS(BEST BAR EVER) AND TRAMPS. We went to Veronicas a few tmes but mainly went to Starco (linekers, tramps, rags, met bar, voodoo!)
We met some great people, reps and in our hotel.
If your going with thomas cook club 18-30 deffo do the foam party!!!
I LOVED THIS HOLIDAYYYYYYYY BUT NOT THE HOTEL!

Thought this hotel was great for money.........
Didnt expect it to be as clean and nice...........
was spotless and staff were lovely..........
would recommend it ..........

just back froma weeks boys hooliday in tenerife. we stayed in optimist and althought alot of comments tend 2 reccomend optimist..not me.
for a start it is a dull green hotel.
during peak summer there are alot of boys and girls on tese mad holidays and it was quite lively.
none of the staff can speak english and thats all of them, not even the receptionist can
when there, a bunch of girls had no electricity and they were told 2 wait to the next day??? thats terrible service to be honest.
there was a condom in the pool at one stage also. and during our stay one lad froma bunch of lads ona lads hday got 150 euro stolen apparently its was one of the maids?
in all the brochures and write ups on optimist, the hotel is actually further away from the strip than expected and i would preferably stay closer on return!!
i dont reccomend optimist.. honestly DONT STAY here.

Stayed at the optimist apartments for 2 weeks in February 2009, and apart from a group of 20-35 year old men on a stag weekend the apartments are very quiet and comfortable. Once the stag party left it was peacefull again. The maid service was a bit erratic but overall it was clean with fresh towels every other day. Never saw a cockroach in the apartments.It is green but you don`t go on holiday to admire the decor in your apartment. Never had any trouble getting a sun bed at 9 o`clock in the morning or even later in the day but it is early in the season. would not go in the summer when the 18-30`s groups go but would definatley recommend the optimist for a winter break.Stairs might not be suitable for older people but we are in our 60`s and had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed our nights out as well at shenanigans showbar,an excellent venue downstairs from the gaelic corner in the Patch.

EMMM.
What can i say...
I wasn't what i expected, first of all, it was all one colour, DARK DULL GREEN!
Also, They put us on a top floor when we had a baby and a pram, i mean there were five of us so we needed a lot of shopping and there they go putting us on a top floor. Also, there was no sun at all at the side we were on, and the meant the washing wouldn't dry.
Although, they did make up for all this by putting us on the sunny side and on the bottom floor, therefore the kids could get to the disgusting pool. I told them to clean it.

Five of us went out and we didnt expect it be as great as it was. Accomodation is basic but in the height of the summer the reps make the holiday brilliant. Go to the Foam party and the Booze cruise!!!!!!
Def would go back every year!!!
We went back a few months later and it was even better..
