Submitted By: minxy1The apartment had maid service every other day with clean towels, bedding and toilet roll. We however stayed out until late so told the maid not to clean for us, just accepted the clean laundry (the apartment did not become that dirty as we were hardly in it). We had no problems with hot water at any time during the day and both myself and my partner were able to take long showers with ample hot water ( I have long hair which needs thorough washing).
The resort of Costa De Silencio is fairly quiet although we visited in January and found fab entertainment in the karaoke bar of 'The Foaming Quart', where you can expect a very warm welcome from Mike and Jennie (Hi guys, hope all is well). There are a few places to eat around the Coral Mar (which is a small mall) although in January there were not loads of restaurants open and the Harvester Grillhouse, based in the alondras apartments has a lovely range of in house meals and cheaper, but lovely quality bar meals.
The down side to Costa De Silencio is the lack of a beach, although you can access the sea via the rocks and some steps this is not ideal. Also the beach at Las Galletas was not that good for sunbathing. Los Christianos is a short bus ride away and only costs about 1 euro. For those that have never been to tenerife this is a lovely resort with much more to do and the presence of a fab beach. The pools at alondras apartments were lovely and clean with the presence of a life guard and although reading reports that these are frequented by the local unruley residents, we found no evidence of this, in fact found them to be very quiet. The pool bar also has a friendly ex pat and serves some lovely bar meals at reasonable prices.
The only problem we found which I would warn everyone of is this, in January the reception did not hold much money, so we were unable to change our travellers cheques here. We were given directions to the nearest Western Union, which is in fact only a short distance down the road. This closes at 8pm so be warned and due to it being in the middle of the residential area, I did not feel safe walking back to our apartments with my passport in my handbag. One gentleman had his wallet pinched whilst in the bus queue one morning. So ensure to change your travellers cheques early in the day, when you can place your passport in the safety of your deposit box before you go out. Also please ensure you keep your purse and wallet deep in your handbag whilst waiting for the bus.
I would definately return to Costa De Silencio and am sure in a few years time this resort will have much more nightlife. The people here, especially the ex pats are extremely welcoming.
Advice: see this for yourself, dont necessarily believe all you read
Activities: We ate at stellas for breakfast and coral mar for evening meal. Los Christianos is worth a visit.

The apartments are spacious enough and cleaned regularly (in the week we were there, we only had two cockroaches in ours - one alive and one dead).
Los Galleatas (nice bars and restaurants) and Los Christianos are not far away.
On the minus side
The sheets on the beds are too small, the water is luke warm at best after one shower (how these two bed apartemnts could possibly take 6 as they claim I can't imagine. There were 3 of us and only the first person ever had a hot shower - there was never any need to turn the cold tap on). If someone turned the hot tap on in the kitchen when someone else was having a shower, the shower dried up completely!
There was an open plug in the bathroom (illegal in the UK) and the bath was rusty. And whatever you do, don't touch the outside of the toaster - it's as hot as the inside!
We were self catering and that was a joke. The hob had no markings on it at all so you couldn't tell where the lowest and highest positions were. The hotplates were so useless, you couldn't even tell when you turned them on. We tried to cook a simple meal on the first night and almost gave up after two and a half hours. An electrician came in and put markings on the hob showing the highest and lowest settings and even he admitted that the hobs were rubbish. They gave us access to another apartement next door but it was no better.
The resort of Playa del Silencio is a bomb site with very little happening and as others have noted, most of the restauarants cater for the chicken and chips brigade.
We liked Tenerife itself and hired a car and had a great time travelling all over the island and would go back there. We will certainly not be going back to Costa Del Silencio or Alondras apartments. It's probably the worst place we saw on the whole island.
Advice: Go anywhere else.
Activities: Visit to Mount Tiede and the mouintains above Santa Cruz

Submitted By: Miss S FlemingOur balcony overlooked the pool and most of the time it was very quiet, although there was work going on in the day not much banging though & we hardly noticed. At the weekends the residents children were a nuisence jumping in the pools splashing & upsetting everyone, my 4 year old son called them wild boys!
I found everyone on reception helpful especially on our last day I would advise no one to extend their rooms for 30 euros as were able to use a room to get showered etc before our flight at no extra cost. We did have some problems getting in our apartment though, the use of a card should give you access to your room easily you'd think? No, my partner kept going to reception to ask for a new one, after 3 new cards in 2 days we were told that placing the card next to a mobile phone wipes it therefore leaves it useless. Tip don't put the card anywhere near a mobile phone.
We first shopped at Netto which we thougt was good value for money but was later told to use smaller supermarkets as they are a lot cheaper.
The bus service was great we didn't have to pay for my Son although they did seem to take you round the houses a bit it took on average 45 mins to get to playa de las americas.
Costa del Silencio is a quiet resort. We ate at Stella's 3 times the food is great value for money and the staff really friendly my Son cried to go back. We drank mainly in Joes bar again very friendly with lots of english locals, the quizes were particulary a lot of fun!
Overall the holiday was brilliant I would definately go back. Great value for money!
" THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY!!!!
The Good?
nice room, bed comfy (thou pillows like a rock) balcony overlooking pool.
Nice and Peaceful in the mornings (untill 2pm) (read on for why it was not after 2)
Maid tidied room every two days.
Young man on reception, very nice and friendly (sorry did not get his name, but he had a lip stud?)
Near airport so quick transfer, you can get bus from airport to Los Christanos then transfer to Costa Del Silencio, at a cost of just over 5 Euros, a lot cheaper than 20 Euros or more for a the taxi!
The Bad?
OUr electric power went off, when the kettle and oven ring were on together (man came prompt to sort it thou)
Water for baths and showers, ran cold after a quick surge of hot, so no leisurely bath to soak those suntanned skins!!
The spanish children who seem to descend from all corners of the resort (around 2pm till after 6pm) to use the pool, with no regard or respect to fellow guests, they jump over the railings into the pool splashing anyone near by and constantly throwing water at each other soaking any other people in the pool, may seem like a grumble, but believe me, it was awful, the children of the guests were well ousted out of the pool, not fair for families who have paid good money for their yearly break.
This spoilt what could have been a nice peaceful pool area, and really the managment need to discourage this.
Some reception staff, seemed to resent being interupted with enqueries, a middle aged (nice looking chap) was extremely surly, never once got a pleasant smile from him with any queries that I made.
Perhaps this is the part where you notice the abscence of a Holiday rep, who WANT to help and do so smiling (well most of the time)
The price of goods in Netto, try to find the larger supermarket as you turn left out of the HOtel, better price range of goods, but don't and I repeat don't buy EL PASO products, we foolishly picked up 2 tins of Chilli, (no price in front) and took the near by price of 2 Euros to be the cost, it was not, now, are you ready for this? 6.75 Euros a tin! which of course cost us 13.50 Euros!!!!! we could have got a meal for that, so be warned check your prices carefully.
The Ugly?
Has to be the awful rusty bath, that is desperate to be replaced, pieces of the bath were flaking all around me whilst showering or bathing.
The resort is a mess, so many for sale properties, both residencial and commercial.
IT is a very run down resort, a few pubs exsist, (mostly around the Coral Mar area) but is frequented by the rowdy "lets see who can talk shout the loudest" brigade.
If you want a quiet drink forget it, there is no where, that I found.
Dog mess is every where, and never gets picked up, (not much fun in the dark when you can't see where your walking)

Submitted By: Mr P HiltonCosta del Slencio is a relatively small resort with plenty of bars/cafes to suit most people but no clubs or discos. Plan ahead for Monday night as most places are closed!
The reception staff were polite and helpfull.
The Harvester Grillhouse on site provided good qualiity food but the service was slow - unfortunately the evening entertainment as restricted to kareoke which was crap.
We had a car so could shop at the hypermarket just outside Santa Cruz as the local supermarkets were quite pricey - however the bread at the on site supermarket was ok and they had internet access so we could check in on-line for our return flights with Ryanair.
We didn't pay a lot so overall was good value for money and no cockroaches!

Submitted By: Mr P Pestlewe recommend the following places. the "avenue cafe" for breakfast gives very good value for money (3.95 euros). the "patio" offers a good variety of spanish meals at a reasonable price. we found that "the harvester" restaraunt on the complex excellent value with a very wide variety of meals to meet your budget. on our last night the chef cooked me the very best fillet steak with mushooms i have ever tasted (11.95 euros). "woody's bar" is really good of an evening to sit and watch the world go by. they also serve a really good burgar or ribs if you like that type of food. the staff are very friendly and are known to offer a free drink or two at the end of the evening.
the poolside bar on the complex serves very good food and very cold lager. aaron also has a good selection of music to play
"exiles bar" and "the euro" bar are english bars with football, cheap beer but no atmostphere (my interpretation only). this was mainly due to the "ex-pats" who seem to view holidaymakers as a source of income only (again, my view only).
the cost of taxi's vary for the same journy into silencio from 3 euros to 5 euros, but who cares? the buses are very cheap with most journy's not costing more than 2.5 euros. if you plan on take a lot of bus rides then ask about a travel card. be aware that silencio does have a ciesta of a afternoon, but there is very little to do there anyway.
would we stay there again? most certainly if all we wanted was a budget holiday in the sun. we more than survived on a budget of 600 euros for the week. we ate out at least twice a day and sampled more than our fair share of vodka and lager (though not in the same glass!).
ps. the only cockroach we met was in one of the "ex-pats" bars and this was no bigger than a 5p piece

Submitted By: Mr W G CarrWe stayed for approximately 4 hours before insisting we were moved and were made to pay over £400 extra for the privilege, however after the shock of arriving at Alondras Park, we would of happily paid what ever price necessary to get out of there as quickly as possible.
On our arrival the night porter seemed unsure of which room we had been allocated and proceeded to enter several occupied apartments at 05:00am before finding an empty one. The room can best be described as a poorly furnished cell, filthy, gloomy and totally unfit to be described as a holiday apartment. Single camp beds with dirty linen, where complemented by unhygienic appliances and unsafe wiring.
I would love to finish on a positive note, but saw absolutely no redeeming features on a brief tour around the pool, complex and reception. I do not consider that our standards are very particular or unreasonable and have stayed at some very pleasant but basic resorts. Alondras Park is however without doubt the worst excuse for a holiday resort we have ever experienced.

were a bit worried to what we were going out to .........
but to our surprise totally enjoyed the place . staff were plesant appt clean if not basic
if you are looking or a quiet peaceful time these appt's are for families so there are
many children around .
We were so glad to have stayed here rather than los cristianos (too englishly)
do try the pool bar and have a laugh with the lady owner (who looked after us whilst we
had to wait for our bus to take us to the airport 5 hrs ) (all the spanish jo likey's stayed for the day 55 of um!!)
respect the locals eat the local food and try to speak the spanish tongue !!
we will be back
