just come back from a week at alondras park in silencio...well what can i say was worried about going after reading some of the reviews if you want 5 star dont go if want top notch dont go!!! if you make your holiday then do go after all a holiday is waht you make it.silencio is being done up at the moment and so far it looks good.we went thE avenue for breakfast was really nice we were recommended to go to the 'CHICKEN SHACK'for our evening meal so we did and we highly recommend that you DON'T we waited over an hour and a half for our meal and ended up sending 2 of the meals back it was truly awful plus the added entertainment of the 2 owners having a full scale row in front of the customers didn't help matters the girl who served us 'KIM' was lovely tho.Next night we went 'WOODYS' you will love it there if you like the sound of microwaves pinging every 5 mins and rubber food our next night we went 'CAMALEON'what a life saver it was fantastic, food was outstanding it has just been decorated inside and is by far the nicest cleanest retaurant in silencio we had the lamb on the special board and it just melted in your mouth so we went back every night and as the board stated the only thing that wasn't available was dissapointment. You have to try it!!!!!!!!!!!

Alondras Park Apartments, Costa de Silencio

Well my first impressions were ' this is so different to the reviews I had read on the net'. We arrived to a very helpful gentleman (think this was the manager) and to a lovely clean, spacious apartment. I have read that people tend to have problems with their card which opens the door, we had a problem on our first day, but had not entirely listened to how to use it correctly and when shown again realised that this was us and not a problem with the door or the card.
The apartment had maid service every other day with clean towels, bedding and toilet roll. We however stayed out until late so told the maid not to clean for us, just accepted the clean laundry (the apartment did not become that dirty as we were hardly in it). We had no problems with hot water at any time during the day and both myself and my partner were able to take long showers with ample hot water ( I have long hair which needs thorough washing).
The resort of Costa De Silencio is fairly quiet although we visited in January and found fab entertainment in the karaoke bar of 'The Foaming Quart', where you can expect a very warm welcome from Mike and Jennie (Hi guys, hope all is well). There are a few places to eat around the Coral Mar (which is a small mall) although in January there were not loads of restaurants open and the Harvester Grillhouse, based in the alondras apartments has a lovely range of in house meals and cheaper, but lovely quality bar meals.
The down side to Costa De Silencio is the lack of a beach, although you can access the sea via the rocks and some steps this is not ideal. Also the beach at Las Galletas was not that good for sunbathing. Los Christianos is a short bus ride away and only costs about 1 euro. For those that have never been to tenerife this is a lovely resort with much more to do and the presence of a fab beach. The pools at alondras apartments were lovely and clean with the presence of a life guard and although reading reports that these are frequented by the local unruley residents, we found no evidence of this, in fact found them to be very quiet. The pool bar also has a friendly ex pat and serves some lovely bar meals at reasonable prices.
The only problem we found which I would warn everyone of is this, in January the reception did not hold much money, so we were unable to change our travellers cheques here. We were given directions to the nearest Western Union, which is in fact only a short distance down the road. This closes at 8pm so be warned and due to it being in the middle of the residential area, I did not feel safe walking back to our apartments with my passport in my handbag. One gentleman had his wallet pinched whilst in the bus queue one morning. So ensure to change your travellers cheques early in the day, when you can place your passport in the safety of your deposit box before you go out. Also please ensure you keep your purse and wallet deep in your handbag whilst waiting for the bus.
I would definately return to Costa De Silencio and am sure in a few years time this resort will have much more nightlife. The people here, especially the ex pats are extremely welcoming.

Go somewhere else

Jan 2009, Ian Giles

If you are a young, lager swilling, loud-mouthed yob who likes to get drunk regularly, then stagger home shouting obscenities deep into the night with no consideration of other holdaymakers, then this could be the place for you. Otherwise I suggest you try somewhere else. Admittedly, we were in Alondras apartments over the new year period but the noise from such people was there every night, into the very early hours. The managemnet seem oblivious to this, have no way of controlling it and don't seem to care.
On the plus side
The apartments are spacious enough and cleaned regularly (in the week we were there, we only had two cockroaches in ours - one alive and one dead).
Los Galleatas (nice bars and restaurants) and Los Christianos are not far away.
On the minus side
The sheets on the beds are too small, the water is luke warm at best after one shower (how these two bed apartemnts could possibly take 6 as they claim I can't imagine. There were 3 of us and only the first person ever had a hot shower - there was never any need to turn the cold tap on). If someone turned the hot tap on in the kitchen when someone else was having a shower, the shower dried up completely!
There was an open plug in the bathroom (illegal in the UK) and the bath was rusty. And whatever you do, don't touch the outside of the toaster - it's as hot as the inside!
We were self catering and that was a joke. The hob had no markings on it at all so you couldn't tell where the lowest and highest positions were. The hotplates were so useless, you couldn't even tell when you turned them on. We tried to cook a simple meal on the first night and almost gave up after two and a half hours. An electrician came in and put markings on the hob showing the highest and lowest settings and even he admitted that the hobs were rubbish. They gave us access to another apartement next door but it was no better.

The resort of Playa del Silencio is a bomb site with very little happening and as others have noted, most of the restauarants cater for the chicken and chips brigade.
We liked Tenerife itself and hired a car and had a great time travelling all over the island and would go back there. We will certainly not be going back to Costa Del Silencio or Alondras apartments. It's probably the worst place we saw on the whole island.

overall good accomodation, very spacious, clean but dated.the pools were good and had a life guard. a good family holiday resort for people with young children. THE BAD BITS,if you are happy with burgers and chips, sausage and chips, egg and chips, chips and chips, lager and chips its good ,not our cup of tea.then outside the resort not much happening we could not find any good restuarants.they say the local chinese is good but it looked dirty from outside so we spent most days and evenings in las gallettes or los christianos.beware of very cleaver timeshare touts!!!! they will lie and say anything to get you to see the latest offers. THE GOOD BITS,the price of the holiday was good, the buses are cheap and regular and go on till very late.so we spent most of our time elsewhere.we found great sea front bars, restaurants in LOS GALLETTAS and LOS CHRISTIANOS the weather was hot, very hot.the people were freindly and very helpfull ,a beautifull Island. we went on great sea excursions. The best bar in Silencio was The Albatros,Brit. owned ,a nice place to end a hot busy day, very near to Alondras appts . Would we go to Tenerife again ? YES. Would we go to del Silencio again ? Maybe.if it was all we could get.

Jun 2008, Miss S Fleming

I was dreading arriving at alondras park after all the reveiws I'd read. My family of 4 arrived to find a very spacious 2 bedroom apartment that was clean. The facilities were good the bath could do with updating & the lack of hot water was sometimes an issue. We did have cockroaches in our apartment but mainly tiny babies at the most we saw 10 over the week.
Our balcony overlooked the pool and most of the time it was very quiet, although there was work going on in the day not much banging though & we hardly noticed. At the weekends the residents children were a nuisence jumping in the pools splashing & upsetting everyone, my 4 year old son called them wild boys!
I found everyone on reception helpful especially on our last day I would advise no one to extend their rooms for 30 euros as were able to use a room to get showered etc before our flight at no extra cost. We did have some problems getting in our apartment though, the use of a card should give you access to your room easily you'd think? No, my partner kept going to reception to ask for a new one, after 3 new cards in 2 days we were told that placing the card next to a mobile phone wipes it therefore leaves it useless. Tip don't put the card anywhere near a mobile phone.
We first shopped at Netto which we thougt was good value for money but was later told to use smaller supermarkets as they are a lot cheaper.
The bus service was great we didn't have to pay for my Son although they did seem to take you round the houses a bit it took on average 45 mins to get to playa de las americas.
Costa del Silencio is a quiet resort. We ate at Stella's 3 times the food is great value for money and the staff really friendly my Son cried to go back. We drank mainly in Joes bar again very friendly with lots of english locals, the quizes were particulary a lot of fun!
Overall the holiday was brilliant I would definately go back. Great value for money!

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY!!!! The...

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY!!!!
The Good?
nice room, bed comfy (thou pillows like a rock) balcony overlooking pool.
Nice and Peaceful in the mornings (untill 2pm) (read on for why it was not after 2)
Maid tidied room every two days.
Young man on reception, very nice and friendly (sorry did not get his name, but he had a lip stud?)
Near airport so quick transfer, you can get bus from airport to Los Christanos then transfer to Costa Del Silencio, at a cost of just over 5 Euros, a lot cheaper than 20 Euros or more for a the taxi!
The Bad?
OUr electric power went off, when the kettle and oven ring were on together (man came prompt to sort it thou)
Water for baths and showers, ran cold after a quick surge of hot, so no leisurely bath to soak those suntanned skins!!
The spanish children who seem to descend from all corners of the resort (around 2pm till after 6pm) to use the pool, with no regard or respect to fellow guests, they jump over the railings into the pool splashing anyone near by and constantly throwing water at each other soaking any other people in the pool, may seem like a grumble, but believe me, it was awful, the children of the guests were well ousted out of the pool, not fair for families who have paid good money for their yearly break.
This spoilt what could have been a nice peaceful pool area, and really the managment need to discourage this.
Some reception staff, seemed to resent being interupted with enqueries, a middle aged (nice looking chap) was extremely surly, never once got a pleasant smile from him with any queries that I made.
Perhaps this is the part where you notice the abscence of a Holiday rep, who WANT to help and do so smiling (well most of the time)
The price of goods in Netto, try to find the larger supermarket as you turn left out of the HOtel, better price range of goods, but don't and I repeat don't buy EL PASO products, we foolishly picked up 2 tins of Chilli, (no price in front) and took the near by price of 2 Euros to be the cost, it was not, now, are you ready for this? 6.75 Euros a tin! which of course cost us 13.50 Euros!!!!! we could have got a meal for that, so be warned check your prices carefully.
The Ugly?
Has to be the awful rusty bath, that is desperate to be replaced, pieces of the bath were flaking all around me whilst showering or bathing.
The resort is a mess, so many for sale properties, both residencial and commercial.
IT is a very run down resort, a few pubs exsist, (mostly around the Coral Mar area) but is frequented by the rowdy "lets see who can talk shout the loudest" brigade.
If you want a quiet drink forget it, there is no where, that I found.
Dog mess is every where, and never gets picked up, (not much fun in the dark when you can't see where your walking)

arived here to a warm welcome the apartment were lovely, clean and spacious . the cleaaners turned up every other day and left the clean. Had brunch at the pool bar the food was all freshly made and a selection of homemade food available everyday, a wonderful couple run it, Alison and Ronny made us welcome... we went their every day the service was second to none... the food was priced well and very reasonable for the amount you got which was by far more than enough TOTALLY filling.Sadly The Harvester wasnt open when we were there as it said not open til the end of MAY 08 so i cant rate it for food but have been told that you waited ages for your food about an hour...

Having visited alondras park before (last may and june) I new exactly what to expect, yes the rooms are fairly basic, but for the price you pay what more can you expect. The one thing that did impress me was the pool bar, having read a review on another web site about said bar, "that the pool bar was open when the couple felt like it which wasn't often"during the same month we were there the reviewer could not of been more wrong. We stayed in a room fairly near the bar and ate there quite often, the couple that now run the pool bar are very friendly and offer a varied menu, after chatting to ali we found out that they had only taken the bar over in nov 07 and from what we saw had managed to improve it greatly. they offer not only there standard menu but also weekly specials (all homemade), there omelettes are to die for (freshly cooked) and unlike some bars/restaurants are happy to make what you like providing they have it (which was all the time).Keep up the good work ali, aaron and little rachel, we will be seeing you soon as we are coming over in october for a couple of weeks. the pool bar was open every day during our two week stay closing around 5pm as it was fairly quiet on site. The onsite supermarket at alondras park is also very good value for money as well as the Pool Bar. Tried to visit the Harvester Restaurant but it was always CLOSED even when it was advertised as open, we tried to go there for a drink at around 9.15pm one evening but was all locked up, so much for nightly entertainment !!!
So if you stay at Alondras pop down and see ali or aaron at the pool bar and say Hi from me you wont be disappointed with the food or the service, but bear in mind with the rooms as with most things in life you get what you pay for !!!

Apr 2008, Miss Jennifer Hargreaves

Just returned from a weeks stay at these apartments and had a fab holiday. The apartments are clean and the rooms are large, the lounge area was comfortable and the bedroom was clean ( sheets changed every 2 days ) and the beds very comfy, the bathroom and kitchenette were more than adequate and we had a large terrace over looking the pool area. The pools ( 3 of them ) were very nice with sun loungers and a childrens pool all spotless and asthetically pleasing, there is a bar next to the pool that sells reasonably priced food and drink. The hotel resturant was closed until May so didnt get to eat there. All the hotel staff, ex pats and residents ( some apartments are lived in) were all very friendly and the maids came every day. The resort is small and quiet but has a few shops and bars and a couple of very nice resturants ( tapas resturant and Italian across from moon and mars ), it was a 2 min walk to the sea ( no beach though ) and a pleasant 30 min walk to the fishing village of Las Gallattes which had some nice shops and bars and a small beach. The taxi from the airport cost 20 euros as did a taxi to Las Americas, but the bus to Las Americas was only one euro and was very easy to use and ran 1/2 hourly till midnight. Overall an excellent holiday, was rather nervous about the apartment as I had read some bad reviews but it was really nice and a good time was had by all.

Budget accomodation which is...
7 / 10
Mar 2008, Mr P Hilton

Budget accomodation which is generally well presented and clean - don't know if there has been a recent change in ownership but has been the complex has been redecorated to improve the overall feel of the place.
Costa del Slencio is a relatively small resort with plenty of bars/cafes to suit most people but no clubs or discos. Plan ahead for Monday night as most places are closed!
The reception staff were polite and helpfull.
The Harvester Grillhouse on site provided good qualiity food but the service was slow - unfortunately the evening entertainment as restricted to kareoke which was crap.
We had a car so could shop at the hypermarket just outside Santa Cruz as the local supermarkets were quite pricey - however the bread at the on site supermarket was ok and they had internet access so we could check in on-line for our return flights with Ryanair.
We didn't pay a lot so overall was good value for money and no cockroaches!

Mar 2008, Other I'm Happy, Glasgow

After reading reviews already posted we were worried about what to expect. Packed lots of cleaning products as reports had said the place was dirty. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had booked a one bedroom apartment but were allocated a two bedroom apt on arrival which was very clean and functional. The only drawback was that the lounge furniture was quite dated and tired but it was clean and the apt served very well as a base for our week's holiday. There was absolutely no evidence of cockroaches or any other unwelcome guests. Our apt was cleaned and towels replaced every two days by the very friendly cleaning staff. An army of cleaning staff scrubbed the complex every morning and the pools were cleaned every morning. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We paid less than £60 each for a week's accommodation and felt this was extremely good value for what we received. We were not there in a peak period but certainly did not feel any of the "cliqueishness" at the pool area previously reported in other reviews by either Spanish or ex-pats. If you bear in mind what you are paying for this accommodation we are surprised at some people complaining the way they have. We went without our children but I would have no hesitation in taking my children to this complex. If you know what to expect from Tenerife in that it is very English orientated and you want a quieter location than Los Cristianos/Las Americas you could choose a lot worse than the Alondras Park apartments.
