" We knew only a couple of days before... "

We knew only a couple of days before that this was to be our accommodation, after being moved due to construction on our original hotel.

The apartments themselves aren’t the best but its 2* and provided that’s what you've paid for you don’t expect anymore. The apartments are very clean, we had a maid into our room every other day, even Boxing Day.

Food and drink are very good on site and well priced we ate breakfast at the pool bar everyday as well as numerous snacks throughout the week all very nice. The couple that own the bar put on a champagne breakfast Christmas day at a good price. And my partner enjoyed spaghetti bolognaise (homemade) which he filled him up for the plane home.

The people at the pool bar are very friendly and add to the atmosphere around the pool. The hotel restaurant "The Harvester" serves good food, and has entertainment every night the staff there are all very friendly and gave us a few place to go as there isn’t much around the area itself.

Don't go to the Alondras Park if you’re looking for luxury, but do go if you want a cheap and cheerful holiday in the sun. All in all we had a great holiday and we would go back again.

" Have just returned from one week with... "

Have just returned from one week with my family staying in the Alondras Park apartments. At first sight they are fine with 3 pools and pool bar/restaurant. It is a large complex but I found mainly used by locals as living accommodation and ex-pats and their families as it was very "clicky".

The apartments are attractive enough but the area surrounding is pretty run down and barren and it seems the local hang out is a square with 2 or 3 pubs and a couple of greasy spoon cafes. If you walk further down the road there are a couple of more upmarket restaurants which are all very reasonably priced, in fact everywhere we ate was good value. Didn’t eat at the Harvester Grill adjoining the apartments as it never seemed open (in fact tried a couple of times at around 9pm and it was closed).

The apartment itself at first impression was fine and reasonably clean however you soon realise that the furniture is made out of plasterboard and even the beds were just plasterboard on legs with a mattress. The kettle was so dirty it had flies breeding in it.

The cleaners came twice in a week which maybe wasn't a good thing considering they left the patio door open which resulted in an opportunist thief stealing mobile phones and chargers, clothes, perfume.... even shampoo! When reported to the reception we were asked why weren’t we using the safe... shampoo and clothes in the safe?! They were very unhelpful and suggested we just call the police. Not much point in that as the items weren't covered by insurance.

Generally not one to complain - I suppose for cheap accommodation the apartments were okay but if you're not into English/Irish/Scottish restaurants and fish and chips, I would give this one a miss.

Oh and if you do go make sure you fork out for a safe!

" We booked with into the Alondras Park... "

We booked with into the Alondras Park before we read any reviews and were apprehensive having read a few visitors had been disappointed. We were pleasantly surprised.

We knew we were getting low budget accommodation, the prices reflect the standard of the accommodation. But providing you realise you are not going to get 4 or 5 star apartments you will have a very enjoyable holiday.

We had the very occasional cockroach encounter, but in two weeks only one in the room (he didn't last long!)

Food and drink are very cheap. A good meal can be brought in one of the many local cafe / restaurants for 5 or 6 Euro's, with beer as cheap as 1 Euro a pint.

Contrary to previous reviews there are no louts or rowdy yobs, this is a quiet place ideal for young family's looking for some sunshine on the cheap.
Book your flights early to gain cheap bargains and you will not be disappointed.

Beware ... few bars and restaurants accept credit cards, so don't be caught out.
Some places to look out for ... the hotel restaurant "The Harvester" serves good food, but the wait can be a little tedious. "The Avenue" in the square serves up a cheap and filling breakfast. "The euro bar" does exactly what it says on the tin ...beer at a euro a pint.

Don't go to the Alondras Park if your looking for luxury, but do go if you want a cheap and cheerful holiday in the sun.

" A previous reviewer had also read bad... "

A previous reviewer had also read bad ones about Alondras Park and was worried about going there and so was I.

Don’t worry as our apartment was spacious and clean apart from a couple of cobwebs which is why I have knocked one point from the rating. Basic appliances, kettle, toaster, no oven, pay per view TV, but who wants to cook and watch TV on holiday. As it is only two stars it was better than we expected.

The Harvester restaurant on site is so good we dined there every night apart from Monday when it is closed. The staff are great, the entertainer can go ott at times but this was ok by us and we enjoyed our whole week. The only time we ate out on the Monday we chose the wrong place. It was ok when we walked in with background music playing but this soon changed to a TV with soaps showing and very loud and food was not very good.

15 mins to the bus stop and a choice of 3 to Los Cristianos. 15 euros by cab from the airport which was cheaper than a pre-booked transfer would have cost.

All in all we had a great holiday and we would go back again. But it might not be everybody’s cup of tea.

" Stayed at Alondras Park for the first... "

Stayed at Alondras Park for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Reviews were a bit "iffy" but as we didn't have kids to consider thought we could "muddle through". No need to have worried though because the apartment was great. Clean, spacious and fully operational. Kitchen was clean with both hob, oven, toaster etc but no microwave but then who cooks when on holiday!

The bathroom was clean and tidy with washing machine. Twin beds as usual in the bedroom but lovely and clean with coordinated bedding etc and plenty of wardrobe space. Dining table and chairs in the living area was plenty big enough for 6 and the balcony had additional table and chairs. Didn't see a cockroach all 11 days too - bonus! The pools were clean with plenty of sun beds and although rather chilly in April were a welcome break from the heat of the Tenerife sun! It certainly made up for the lack of beach in Silencio!

Weekends can get a bit more rowdy with the onslaught of the Spanish owners but they usually depart Sunday evening and we were there over the Bank Holiday!! The Harvester restaurant in the complex serves excellent food (especially the mushy peas - thanks to Simon and Sue!). The meals are plentiful and they have a lovely selection of dishes to choose from. The "specials" are always worth looking out for.

The restaurant was undergoing renovations whilst we were there which looked promising - with plans to enlarge the bar and provide separate restaurant area. Look forward to seeing this on our return! The nightly entertainment was amusing and light-hearted. Mike Edwards - a fabulous keyboard player with a Yorkshire sense of humour always provides for good entertainment! The karaoke always gives everyone a fair chance to match their wits over the nightly guest singers and there is a great atmosphere with quizzes and a great act for the whole family by Johnny Circus. I would recommend this restaurant for a great night out. The bar staff are extremely friendly and the owners have got it spot on!

Costa Del Silencio is a nice resort for those seeking some R&R. If you want bars, booze and night life then don't come here! The bars, though few, are friendly and welcoming and I would happily come here again. Those wanting more can easily catch the bus to Cristianos or Americas - cheap too! Alondras Park is cheap and cheerful and in my experience is well worth a look - if you don't mind the Spanish!

" Very basic no microwave cooking rings... "

Very basic no microwave cooking rings took ages to heat up, plaster cracked ready to fall off living room walls, shower head and hose rusted and never been cleaned for I don't know how long, black mold to bathroom tiles, did report this and receptionist made a note of it but nothing done also reported to holiday rep.

Top bedding cover very tacky had seen better days but bed comfortable. Most of the apartments have been sold off and are occupied by the Spanish, no 24hr reception so had to let ourselves out of a back gate at 5.30AM for pick up.

Apart from the accommodation the area was lovely, quiet, good bars, no beach but can Walk into Calletes to small fishing harbor and bars, Stella’s bar very good down side street very friendly. Disappointed in a Direct Holiday accommodation as we have had perfect in the past. This being a 1 week holiday we coped.

I am giving this a rating of 3 only because of the accommodation.

" We have just returned from a weeks... "

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Alondras park. We were all pretty nervous after reading terrible reviews about the accommodation, however we were pleasantly surprised.

The apartment was basic but you really don’t need all that much. It was very spacious and ok the furniture was a bit tired but not tatty. The cooking facilities weren’t fantastic so we ate out every night, but that’s what a holiday is all about. Everything was nice and clean and no bugs anywhere - you can’t complain!!

We had a fantastic time and we would definitely go back there again. Ok there wasn’t a beach nearby but the 3 lovely pools made up for that and we enjoyed numerous days lounging!!

We went into Los Cristianos twice and went on the beach there which is beautiful. It only cost us 2 euro 50 for 2 adults by bus, so not bad really.

Overall, don’t be put off by the bad reviews the accommodation is good value for money and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. We highly recommend the Chinese restaurant in El Chapparral - fantastic food and excellent value!!! As was the deep pan pizza place next door to Alondra.

" We have just returned from a... "

We have just returned from a two-week’s holiday staying in the self catering apartments of the Alondras Park Apartments in Costa del Silencio, Tenerife.

It was a spur of the moment holiday, and, not having read any reviews until after our accommodation was reserved, I was just a bit more than anxious about what to expect. In fact, the one bedroom ground floor apartment was quite acceptable, clean and fresh smelling on our arrival.

There were masses of space in the lounge area especially and seating was comparatively comfortable – missed not having table lamps though. Also, the television was on pay to view and apparently had only one English-speaking channel. At least that was what the other holidaymakers remarked - we didn’t bother paying to view.

The kitchen cooking facilities were pretty poor though, with only two solid rings to cook on. Not a difficulty for us as I had little intention of doing much home cooking but it would be a bit of dilemma for a family on a budget, I should imagine. There were ample dishes, cutlery and pots (frying pan had been a bit roughly used) but the finer things like a bottle opener were absent. Also, I did miss not having a microwave.

The bathroom wasn’t bad, quite roomy actually, and contained a shower / bath, bidet and toilet facilities though the shower kept falling down until my husband (an excellent DIY lad) did a little repair job. Towels were changed regularly during our stay and toilet rolls were kept well stocked up. We saw no signs of any bugs (I am happy to say) and that included the dreaded cockroaches.

The staff were absolutely first class. Besides being very friendly and informative, they really bent over backwards to assist in any way they could, especially the lady in reception. I do apologise for not remembering her name. Twice I requested articles for our apartment and in each case they were delivered post-haste. I should mention that we were also fortunate to have lovely young lass by the name of Rosie who did a great job at keeping our apartment clean and linen changed.

Though considerably quieter than Los Cristianos and Las Americas, Costa del Silencio and neighbouring Las Galletas offer a wide variety of restaurants.

Food and drink is not expensive in this part of Tenerife and a few of our favourites eating haunts included, Scotch Corner (right next door to Alondras Park), Leo’s - does excellent tapas, among other things. Directions - come out of the Alondras Park - turn left, walk to the end of the apartments and then cross the road and Leo’s is on the left. For good British grub try Stella’s which is in Coral Mar, as is Brooks who also do British food, not fancy but tasty and satisfying. Furthermore, the ‘Little Bit of British Baking’ in Coral Mar is to be commended for their pies, gateau and excellent service.

However, our most favourite place by far was the on-site restaurant in Alondras Park called the ‘Harvester’. Tony, the Welsh chef was an absolute wonder and the food he cooked was to die for – especially the mixed grill for two (think it was actually meant for six) plus the bar manager makes the best Sangria we have ever tasted in all the times we have holidayed in the Canary Islands. There is entertainment each night in the Restaurant.

There was little in the way of beach at the resort but that was not much of a miss for us, because when we wanted to go to the beach we jumped on the bus and used our Bono ticket to Los Christianos where there is ample beach. Could be a bit of a trauchle for those with a young family.

We paid for an inexpensive holiday through Direct Holidays and both the resort and apartment were good value for the price we paid. We flew with My Travel and had an excellent flight both there and back. The flight was bang on time and the staff first rate.

We loved the area of Costa Del Silencio and intend to return and would have no problem with staying at the Alondras Park either for that matter - might depend on having a mcrowave though.

" First off, there is NO beach in Costa... "

First off, there is NO beach in Costa Del Silencio or anywhere near. Every day of our weeks holiday we had to catch a 45 minute bus journey to Los Cristianos or Las Americas, as there is absolutely nothing to do in this area.

There is one good restaurant in Silencio: 'Totem's' which is only a 5 minute walk away from the apartments. The on site restaurant also serves good food, but you'll need to endure the somewhat annoying nightly "entertainer" at the same time.

Costa Del Silencio is not the place to stay if you like beaches, cafe's, restaurants, bars and shops and a generally nice atmosphere. And Alondras Park Apartments is certainly not the place to stay if you like good/clean/tidy accommodation. Upon our arrival we found cigarette buts in the bathroom bins, and a general bad odour. The rooms were extremely dated, although in fairness we didn't see any bugs. Also, the pools could be nice, but are not heated and so a complete waste of time for 9 months of the year!

We tried to change accommodation on our first night, but there was no room at any other hotels/apartments in the main resorts. We had a good holiday in the end, but this was no thanks to Alondras Park or Costa Del Silencio.

" The Alondras Park is a noisy, seedy... "

The Alondras Park is a noisy, seedy set of apartments complete with cockroaches. I was told they had been refurbished but found little evidence except for wet varnish on the breakfast bar that still hadn't dried when we left.

The resort is mostly residential and caters for Brits. A good place to eat is Stellas. Tasty food, plenty of it, served in a cheery atmosphere.

The sun shone every day and it was wonderfully warm. Won't be going back however.

" We’ve just come back from a... "

We’ve just come back from a week’s holiday to the Alondras Park in Costa del Silencio, Tenerife. Apartment was okay - plenty of space, but could do with the kitchen and bathroom re-modernising, as they were past their best.

We also had cockroaches in the kitchen! Not very nice, but for us this wasn’t a big issue as we ate out all the time anyway - food and drink is cheap over there (try the Reina beer!). One particular favourite for food was Leo’s - does excellent tapas, among other things. Directions - come out of the Alondras Park and turn left, walk to the end of the apartments and then cross the road and Leo’s is on the left.

We paid for a cheap holiday, got a great airline (First Choice Airways) and an apartment which reflected the price. Would go again though, as we went for the scuba diving, which was fantastic and not to be missed. We dived with divetenerife.com - an excellent dive centre in Las Galletas. They do free pick-ups and also do Try Dives for those who are not qualified divers and want to give it a try.
