strangest christmas ever !
from icelady457
the hotel was clean and the people friendly the rooms where very basic. the food was the worst i have ever seen and tried not to eat!. it was slop. i like to try different food and did not exspect to find english but when they serve peas and runner beans for breakfast or frankfurters with chilly and onion for breakfast that does it, couldn`t even say to myself i`ll fill at dinner it was just as bad they tried to do pork steaks it was pink in the middle all the food was cold. pud was no better bowls of white slop. anyway stomach churning i`ll leve the food. the hotel is set to rip the tourists off from the start there prices are terribly high £5 for 2 english mags. £2.25 for a bag of crisps. they liked to be tipped for everything and if you dont they will ask. if you go out side the complex it is much cheaper. do try the african dream trip its amazing. if you want to forget christmas and lose weight go.

This hotel is no where near a four star hotel, at best I would say it’s a middle of the range 3 star hotel. There was no minibar or fridge in the room which became a real problem on the last 2 days of our trip as my friend had good food poisoning which we suspect came from the hotel restaurant after our evening meal as the hotel was the only place that we had eaten in all day. With no fridge in the room it meant that my friend had to drink warm bottle water and the bar at night didn't seem to have any chilled bottled water. I told the rep about the food poisoning but she wasn't interested and refused to even consider the possibility that it could have been from the hotel, even though I told her about the flies that were buzzing round the buffet in the restaurant. There were two other people who we knew that had food poisoning as well during our week in the Miramar. The staff generally seemed to be very friendly, the beach was quite clean and the rooms were nice although we were given another room on the second night as our room had damp in it which meant that the smell was awful in the room. Watch out for Charlie though who is in the hotel every day trying to sell camel riding trips, the trips are rubbish and he was very insulting to us. (not a nice story). There is one English speaking TV station which is BBC World but the rest are in French. We gave the maids a big tip on our last day there as they work peanuts and were very grateful of the trip. Go to the wildlife park trip as it was great and only pay the taxi drivers 6 dinar to go into Sousse. The taxis are great fun as everyone seems to drive like a maniac. Skannes was nice enough but very quiet and although I like Tunisia I would rather stay in Sousse next time and I would certainly never go back to the Miramar.
really god

My wife, ten year old daughter and I stayed here for a week in July. We booked to go with Thomas Cook two days before so we had no real expectations. It was a really pleasant relaxing holiday and I have to say that reading some of the other reviews here, I really wonder if I stayed in the same place. The hotel is set amongst beautiful botanical gardens, is low rise and on the beach (cleaned ebvery day). All the staff were kind, helpful and attentive. I've travelled all over the world on business ie. at someone elses' expense and you can't expect the same standards everywhere but this 4* beats a very famous 5* in Cairo. Rooms are large and clean but the taps leak. Why do people go to Tunisia and look for 'European'food? On the Monday of our stay I counted more than 30 choices of main course between the outdoor and indoor buffet but every other night there were only about 15! Charlie organises trips and is better and cheaper than the tour reps. The camel ride was excellent
What out for the men!!!

This is a beautiful hotel, with great facilities, and activities. The only thing is that I would not recomend this resort for single girls, the hotel staff can be extremly in appropriate. There is not alot of difference between how the men in the markets in Sousse, and the male hotel staff. Other than the inappropriate male staff, this was a great vacation, great food, and close to the town centers of both Manastir and Sousse. Both I would recommend visiting. I had a couple of therapy in the spa, worth trying, but don´t have high expectations, it is not a beautiful and relaxing spa, soley for the benefit of the treatments I guess?? However it was great weather , beautiful water, and the sun was not too hot, just perfect. Skanes is a charming place great for a weeks vacation
Absolutely Fantastic!

My stay at this hotel will always be extremely memorable. At first I was a bit homesick and missed my bacon and sausages but I soon warmed to trying new foods. After around three days when I joined in alot of the daytime and evening activities I had the time of my life. From aqua aerobics to joining in with the evening entertainment I was never bored. The only problem I came across was that when they had sport tournaments on the beach or a game of water polo the animation team would only ask men to play, so if your planning a holiday as a couple, prepare to spend some time on your own. I would definately go back to this hotel even though my partner and I split whilst being there. In fact I am now thinking of working abroad and this hotel would be my first choice so you never know if you decide to go here, you may see me there!
Take alcohol with you
from A TripAdvisor Member
If you choose to go to this hotel, we would highly recommend taking some duty free booze with you. The bars have very little to choose from and are about the same price as what you would pay in britian but they give you tunisian alcohol. The lager wasn't bad but anything else was very disappointing and any alcohol that i recognised the name of, you paid through the nose for. The rooms are really nice with excellent air con and the cleaners are in everyday with new towels and bedding. Although we did have our beach wear stolen from our balcony. The hotel has loads to do in the day from archery, mini golf, beach volleyball, table tennis and loads of water sports from the beach which is right at the hotel. In the night, not so much! Bingo at 9pm and The entertainment staff shows are on each night and are the strangest things ever. British are definatley in the minority but the staff in reception and bar have good english. Staff are friendly. although one bar man liked a portable fan we had and pesterd us for the full week to get it from us! Food is average but fine. Although vegetarians don't have as much choice for a main meal. Plenty of salad things and veg but it was pasta every night. Check out the bed rock cafe across the road. Lovely freshly baked sandwiches and pizza's. There is also a supermarket there which is much cheeper than the hotel shop. Save yourself a trip and avoid visting monastir which is a filthy ---- hole. Sousse a bit more tourist friendly but if you do not like being badgered and having to haggel for everything, stay within your resort! Avoid going anywhere on the horse and carts, these poor animals look fit to drop, they are poorly looked after, are skin and bone and should be spared of the abuse. Watch for being short changed (not within hotel) locals are good for counting out half diners as 1diners. All in all we had a lovely relaxing holiday, just remember to take some drink with you.
Wonderful time
from Libby-TRIP
I got back from Tunisia last night (31st July). The weather was fantastic for those who like it hot...43 -50 degrees. The hotel was great and everyone was catered for... entertainment was of a good standard. Lots of bars around the complex ...the Bar Ponton at the end of the hotel pier was lovely at night. The hotel was in the middle of nowhere but to be honest unless you want hustle and bustle that wasn't a disadvantage. To go to places more lively and for shopping such as Sousse and Monastir we caught a taxi for very little money. My boyfriend and I went an a two day desert adventure which was well worth doing. You see how Tunisian people live and can learn much about their culture. The camel ride in the desert was an experience not to be missed too. Port el Kantaoui which wasn't too far away from the hotel is very picturesque with its cobbled streets and deserves a visit. We would go back again.
Nice Holiday

Holiday - 18/July/ 2005 Royal Miramar Thalasso- Skanes After coming back from this hotel myself last week, I can not fault the hotel with any problems. It is an excellent beach holiday destination. It is only 5-10 minutes away from the Airport, but you do not hear any planes overhead. The hotel is set within some nice garden inside the gate with it own mini golf and table tennis section to the right. The surrounding area outside the hotel is poor, with one mini market and an international public phone a 2 minute walk away (which sell water and sweets cheaper than the hotel shop). The hotel is very nice and clean and all the staff are every helpful throughout the day and night. If you are stopping Half-Board the food in the hotel is good to OK. If you are after 4 star food, forgot about it. Food is mixture of lamp, roast chicken and fish and steak in the evening and tomato, eggs, toast, and fruits in the morning. The beach is located 30 seconds away from the hotel, which is good for a beach holiday (no long walks to the beach). The hotel as both a in-door and out-door pool, of course the out-door pool is always the busiest but it has no lifeguard on duty but there is a lifeguard in the in-door pool for children. The Skanes is excellent for a beach and relaxing holiday with a quiet night life (hotel based entertainment only) but if you after busy bars and single girls (or boys) do not go to this area, go to Spain. Warning- When using the sun lounge's either inside the hotel complex (around the pool) or on the beach, you are forced to pay 2 dinars ( about 50 pence in English) every day per person for the pleasure.
I am a tourist get me out of here

On arival we where very impresed with the amount of cleaners in the lobby of the hotel 9 in total. we where shown to our room by the one friendly porter in the hotel. Our room was of a good size and very clean, and was kept that way by being cleaned every day.Was disapointed to find that the satallite tv had only one english speaking channel, world news and that was it. all the plugs in the sinks and bath leaked so it was a race to shave and having a bath ment leaving the tap running, shower kept going hot and cold.Air con was brilliant. No kettle or fridge but there is a hair dryer. Saftey deposit boxes in a room by reception where a little flimsey for our liking they cost 15td a week plus 10td deposit. Lighting obviously it is at a premium in Tunisia as most of the bulbs where blown 4 out of 5 on the stairs to our room and another four if you went the other way down the corridor we complained 7 times in 7 days and there were still many bulbs out after that. so take a torch. There is a shop/nightclub/reasturant over the road from the hotel there is hardly anything in the shop apart from water and crisps but the man serving is very friendly he loves to play heads or tails with a coin gosh he must be in charge of the entertainment in the hotel. Entertainment was not very good at all held every night in the night club includes bingo at 10td a go for one game best thing about it was learning to count from 1-90 in four new languages it take about an hour to play the one game. They know how to empty a place, karakoe started with a tunisian song sung by a member of staff and went on for 20 mins ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it drove us mad. they did try to entertain us but to be honest they failed. Food plenty of it but the selection left a lot to be desired. you will eat SS (sponge and slop) Tunisian speciality after they had run out of ideas to do with the beef ie beef steak becomes beef stew becomes beef in sauce becomes beef in squid ink then finaly tunisian speciality hides a multitude of sins. the meat was poor quality and lacked flavour. our honest opinion of the food is its ok for a weeks stay but after two weeks we where sick to death of it, so glad we didnt go full board. Staff we did not find too friendly or helpfull with a very limited level of English helps if you can speak french. Thalassapy centre was a total let down. it looks fantastic but the staff are a nighmare not one word of english is spoken. we had two treatments first a turkish bath. which was just a sit in a steam room. The second was an all over body massarge which was a rub down with oil i really belive they just dragged someone in from sousse to do it they talked to one another all the time while doing it and kept leaving the room my girlfriends massarge was for less then 20 mins rather then the 30 + it was ment to be we complained and got our money back the staff need to learn to smile. The gardens are loverly and well maintained. mini golf, table tennis are free but it is 8td to play tennis sunbeds around the beach and outdoor pool are charged for at 2td for the bed + 1td for the matress per day deck chairs are free but check your issurance before sitting on them.Sunbeds at by the indoor pool seam to be free. The pools where good outdoor one cold but worth getting into. indoor one was loverly. lifeguards are sparadic. Reasturants on site are pretty good value with pizzas chips and sandwichs good portion sizes. Take alcohol you will need it cost a fortune for shorts over there and there is not a lot of choice. the beer is a resonable price. The beach is ok but loads of seaweed be carefull near the hotel as there is a lot of stones and rubble in the sand including broken tiles. Taxis indications of prices Monastir 6-8td Sousse 4-6td port el kantouie 10td be carefull it is best to agree a price before you start off, your rep may tell you to get the meter on but belive me they will then just take you on a mystery tour to get more money out of you.we found a great taxi driver and used him all the time he gave us his number and we just called him when we wanted a taxi. he couldnt do enougth for us (phone number) thats his number worth a try.
Very disappointing

We have just returned home after spending one week at this hotel. To be honest its nothing like we were told, gorgeous beaches, nice relaxing walks and mouthwatering menus. Ha for a start the beach was disgusting you couldnt walk on it at all for the smell of all the rubbish and horse poo everywhere. This is definately a health hazard especially for small children no way would I take mine on there to play. We were told that this hotel was a platnum hotel so obviously we thought it would be really nice to be spoilt with all the luxury of a platnum. Wrong again, we have stayed in a few gold hotels and to be honest they were much, much better than this one. If you dont speak French they really dont want to know you. I have to say we found that all the staff seemed to be laughing and joking with all the French guests but didnt bother with the English at all, we were definately the minority out there. Plus the fact the French let their children run up and down the corridors screaming and shouting and banging and slamming doors, it was a nightmare. I have to say the food was quite good but nothing to get over excited about. If you are going to this hotel watch your not ripped off when you order a pint. The bar staff only offer a small or a large glass when in fact if you ask for a medium its roughly a £1 cheaper watch out for this. We asked for the wine list but unfortunately the waiter just ignored us and eventually brought us a bottle of Chardonnay which apparently was the most expensive bottle (£16) on the menu we were not impressed. Also the location of the hotel was not explained to us but it is far from anywhere and if you want to go sightseeing you have to go by taxi which is quite reasonably priced. All in all a bad experience and definately wont be going back there again. This hotel is no way 4/5 star its more like 3.
