If we had read the reviews before...
6 / 10
Apr 2007, susy-q

If we had read the reviews before booking our holiday, I must say we would not have booked Green Park, however, being somewhat resourceful we decided to make the most of it.
I can't say that ANY of the existing reviews were helpful and we felt that they just spoiled the excitement of the build up to the holiday. We were dreading what we would find but soon worked out that holidays were about being together, not going to work and topping up on the Vitamin E.
Here, therefore is our HONEST and USEFUL review, which doesn't spend the entire time moaning and looks at the practical aspects of getting the most out of a stay at Green Park.
We're proud to present S and T's TOP TIPS for surviving Green Park. We've based this on the principles of 'you don't get something for nothing', and 'there's no such thing as a freee lunch'. Hell, our last holiday was 2 weeks in a 5 star spa in Thailand ... we had a lot to compare it against.
It's basic. Don't expect your rubbish to be emptied every day or even every second day. Fairly basic domestic skills such as taking the bin out yourself or even making your own bed will, I'm afraid mean 5 minutes less by the pool. However, they also mean less on the cost of the holiday.
Our main tip is to BE PREPARED. We recommend investing in one of those picnic backpacks (which you could even use for daily excursions if you can drag yourself away from the pool) You'll also need to add a small cheap chopping board, kitchen knife and wooden spoon. (We also took our camping cook pots on the basis of one review but these were not necessary) There is enough basic equipment for two to have simple meals. If you're a family, extra dishes, glasses and cultery will come in useful.
We also bought cheap pillow cases from ASDA. These were a life saver as foreign pillows (no matter what country) are ALWAYS inadequate.
If I'm allowed one gripe, we were given twin beds - not amusing since we've not yet been married for a year. Again, ingenuity and a bit of forethought meant that the spare sheet we had bought with us came in useful.
Tenerife is a small island with a large influx of visitors, but even it's small but efficient airport couldn't handle planes every 5 minutes day and night. Yes, Green Park is on the approach but it's not constant. Main airline flight days are Monday and Friday, and then only in fits and starts. You'll get a whole bunch of them in the evening, and if you're a light sleeper then take ear plugs, but it's honestly not too bad.
On site shops are a little on the pricey side. There is a Netto in San Blas and a Supermarket up by Junction 25 of the TF1. We didn't try the restaurants on site, but I did hear one person say that his meal in Sundowners was the best Spanish meal he's ever had.
San Blas is about 15 to 20 minutes, not 45 minutes as one review said. If you want to walk it, take something warm as the wind picks up on the Gulf del Sur in the evenings. Alternatively, there's a Taxi rank just outside the entrance to Green Park and it will cost you 4 Euros. (Hey, think about the poor guy who sat there for half an hour waiting for your measly 4 euros while hoping for a fare to Las Americas) Our advice is not to bother with Los Abrigos.
The guide books say the fish restaurants have their own boats which bring fresh fish straight from the Atlantic to your table. We say we could only find one fish restaurant and not a fishing boat in sight. Los Abrigos probably was once a lovely fishing village... before Golf del sur turned up!
I know this is not a guide to Tenerife, but we do have to say, the market at Santa Cruz was a disappointment. As was Parques Exoticos, where all the butterflies, and more worryingly, one alligator had disappeared, however it does need tourist cash to reinvest and look after the remaining animals. The squirrel monkey was just divine and very therapeutic.
Beware of touts in Los Christianos who use scratch cards to pretend you've won something. They're selling over expensive membership to holiday clubs and will use all the selling tactics under the sun to try to get your money.
Teide .... definitely, yes, get up there. Leave early, take something warm, pack a lunch, and go right over the top and down to Puerto de la cruz. Allow an entire day.
Aqua park ... also, I'm almost ashamed to say, definitely. It's VERY expensive. Once you've paid to get in, you'll have to pay for a locker, pay for a sun bed, pay for this, pay for that. Again, take lunch and water with you. Don't buy a rubber ring - they're supplied for the rides that you'll need them for. Do try everything, no matter how much it scares you. Do be prepared for a nasty taste in your mouth.
The pools are salt water and not chlorinated so keep your eyes closed and definitely, definitely do go and see the dolphin show .... having been skeptical about paying the entrance fee, I would have paid it all over again for this. (Take sun bed tickets with you or someone will nick them and you'll pay again!)
Finally, get out of Green Park. Explore. Have fun.

Booked this holiday for a relaxing...
1 / 10
Mar 2007, Mrs D Devenney

Booked this holiday for a relaxing winter week and was told it was four stars and had great reviews to prove that.
Was messing around on the computer and typed Green Park, was very worried and concerned when reading the reviews, phoned our tour operator to voice our concerns but was told people must be overreacting.
The room was very basic and as we were on half board the food was uneatable it was nothing more than slop, so after paying a large amount for half board, we had to eat out.
As we were told that it was 4 stars you can guess how shocked we were.
We arrived on the Friday and had to complain on the Tuesday that no one had cleaned the room or left us any clean towels.
Would not recommend Green Park to anyone and will be checking reviews for any future holidays.

Booked in at 6pm and had booked out...

Sep 2006, Mrs D Sanders

Booked in at 6pm and had booked out by 8pm. The studio apartment was very basic. As for it being self catering, well the equipment was non existent. One pot for cooking and a kettle that had to be used on the hob. The fridge wasn’t cold, it was dirty and needed defrosting. The bedspreads were dirty and the mattresses to the beds were covered in stains.
The balcony over looked the road. The girl at reception didn’t seem to understand English, trying to complain was very difficult. The chance of being able to change rooms wouldn’t have been possible as there were 2 couples waiting for rooms they didn’t have.
We cut our losses and booked into the Golf Plaza next door, which we would highly recommend. Green Park has a star rating of 3, well we would rate the Golf Plaza as an 8.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING THIS...
2 / 10
Sep 2006, Miss LF Briggs

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING THIS HOTEL!! I know it is quite long but it is honest and tells you things you need to know about staying at Green Park and Golf Del Sur!
We arrived at Green Park at 7pm but it was 8.30pm before we even got into our room! This isn't because it was being made up or cleaned, but because a member of staff had overbooked rooms! To add to the situation, there was just one woman on reception who hardly spoke English.
Whilst waiting to check in, at least 3 or 4 parties complained about their rooms.
A family of six had booked 2 rooms and were given keys only to find that there were people already in both rooms! Another couple had checked in at 6pm and were checking out at 7pm as the mattresses in their rooms had holes and were stained, the bed linen and towels hadn't been changed and their bathroom was dirty. Another couple were also complaining, this time about the food. They had paid for half board but had hardly eaten anything in the 2 weeks that they had been there as the food was so bad. They said they wouldn't have even served it to their dog!
Obviously the more horror stories we were hearing whilst we were waiting to check in, the more apprehensive we were becoming!
Eventually we were given keys to a room which had originally been allocated to another party. The main part of the apartment was clean(ish!) but the biggest problem was the bathroom. The bathroom suite was stained a yellowish colour from the lack of cleaning it has received and I'm sure nothing, not even caustic soda and some powerful elbow grease, would have removed the stains! There were also no plugs so even if you were crazy enough to want to sit in a stained yellow bath and have a wash it would have been impossible!
The rest of the apartment was very basic, but not as basic as you would expect from a 3 star hotel. The kitchen consisted of a 4 ring hob and fridge, but no kettle or toaster. There was a kitchen sink which, I noticed on our second day, played home to some small ant like creatures.
Another BIG problem with this apartment is that it is right on the take-off path for planes from Tenerife South. The description that we were given when booking this apartment said that they were 4km away from the airport but mentioned nothing about being disrupted by aeroplanes or hearing them. Being on the third floor the noise was horrendous. If you had stood on the roofs of the apartments you could have probably touched the underbelly of the plane and that is not an exaggeration, I have pictures to prove it! These planes would take off every 30 to 40 mins until around 1am and then re-start at around 5am. To get a good night's sleep you either need to be a heavy sleeper or highly alcohol induced!
We arrived on the Friday and on Saturday asked our rep to move us to Playa Las Americas. She said that it wouldn't be possible for us to move until Monday morning.
We therefore ended up spending 3 LONG nights at Green Park. My boyfriend and I are both 23 and we wanted a relaxing holiday hence booking these apartments, but this was not relaxing - it was DEAD. There was only one decent restaurant nearby which served Italian food and steak and chicken dishes. The other eating establishments were pubs and cafes (3 in total) which served greasy fried food and pies.
The best place for food was San Blas which was about a 15 min walk away. This had a much bigger selection of restaurants (try the two restaurants in the square they are both delicious!) and shops. There was also some evening entertainment in the style of Elvis and cabaret singers which was cheesy but good family fun!
There was one "beach" near San Blas if you can call it that! It was practically non-existent and was located right in the middle of a building site - not the kind of beach that you can sit on and enjoy!
On our second evening we went to Playa Las Americas. A bus there cost us just under 6 Euros in total but took about an hour. A taxi takes about 10-15 minutes and costs 17 Euros in the day and about 20-22 Euros at night.
By the time Monday came we had done everything there was to do within the area and were ready to move apartments. We were given the opportunity to move to Playa Olid on the Costa Adeje, closer to Playa Las Americas for an additional 70 Euros. Playa Olid also has a 3 star rating but actually lives up to its expected standard. A million times better than Green Park!
To sum up this review for Green Park, if you have a tolerance for a low level of hygiene and like to do nothing but sit by the pool, plane spotting everyday for the whole of your holiday, then this is the place for you. If this is not your idea of a good holiday then I suggest you look at staying in another area of Tenerife. Green Park is not a 3 star apartment, it is more like 1 star!
Thank you for reading this review and I hope it helps in you choosing a decent apartment for your holiday!

We had problems the moment we...
1 / 10
Sep 2006, Mrs C Roebuck

We had problems the moment we arrived. We arrived at 4.30am two adults and three kids completely exhausted and very restless were we was kept waiting while the check in clerk tried to find our rooms, he couldn't speak much English and kept saying that we only had one room on the first floor with just two beds in it, he had no record of us ordering the ordering the joining room which we had paid Global extra for before we left.
He then tried to find us another room to accommodate the other 3 people but this was on the third floor, the frustrating wait was made worse by the clerk losing our paperwork while we were stood at the desk. We left the clerk to sort our rooms and decided to have a look around the resort. We ventured over to the pool area and the sun bathing area which was nothing like the picture on the web site, cats were laying all over the sun beds which didn't seem to be very clean and pigeons were flying around.
We then decided to go back to the reception to see how the check in clerk was getting on with our rooms, he told us that he could only give us the one room with two beds on the first floor and the other room on the third floor and that we needed to come back at 8am to speak to another booking in clerk as he couldn't help us, not very professional run at all.
Because the rooms were on two different levels, it would have meant the children were on the third floor by themselves, so we decided to all stay in the one room on the third level because I didn't feel comfortable leaving my children on their own so far away from our room.
When we opened the door to the room on the third floor the smell was sickening-the room hadn't been cleaned and the bin was still full of rubbish from the guests before us. The rubbish had been in the room for so long thee were flies all over the room and all the cutlery drawers were dirty in general but was made worse when we noticed human hair in the sink, the glass in the bath room which is generally used when brushing your teeth to either swill or store your toothbrushes in was absolutely filthy.
It was evident that the glass had not been cleaned for some times and I mean probably over a month or more, the beds had not been made, and to top it all off we only had three hand towels to share between the six of us and these were the towels from both rooms, this meant a further visit to the reception to ask for more towels which took another 30 minutes.
Tired from our journey I tried to get the kids off to sleep in the clothes they had been wearing from the day before and I was unable to sleep due to the noise of the aeroplanes and the shear annoyance of the start of our holiday I then waited for the receptionist to arrive at 8am. The aeroplanes were horrendously low and the noise was deafening, highlighting another lie we were told by global when we were promised we would not hear the air traffic.
At 8 am I went down to reception and told the new checking in clerk about our problems that we had experienced whilst trying to book in on our arrival and the condition of the room, she kept me waiting again for another 30 minutes just to tell me to come back at 1pm and she might have two rooms together. The staff at this hotel were so unhelpful and incompetent and didn't seem to care about our problems, it was very interesting to see that there were some rooms up for sale, my impression was we were staying in a block of flats and not a purpose built professionally run hotel complex.
I called the area rep and she came and checked the rooms out and advised us to move to another hotel which we did and had to pay another 285euros. This was a nightmare from the moment we landed in Tenerife and none of the promises were honoured that we paid extra for.
I have also taken photos of the rooms and I will send them off to Global with a complaint letter.

Rubbish! No maid for 5 days. On day...

Sep 2006, Mr S Riddell

Rubbish! No maid for 5 days. On day 5 I actually took the rubbish to reception to make the point that our room had not been cleaned despite maids being seen on the floor.
We only ate once then decided against it when we saw the Cats in there.
There were a total of 6 break ins during the week and the hotel were not happy to help. As for the Med Hotel Rep Lisa who could be found most nights in the Bar (glug glug glug) with her famous answer of "Its my day off" lucky girl to get 7 in a row or "tell reception".
We always double locked our door but found it was entered on several occasions but nothing was taken. Reception were not friendly or helpful. We will never return to Green Park.

Being a single mum traveling abroad...
9 / 10
May 2006, Miss C Woodley

Being a single mum traveling abroad for the first time I must admit I was slightly nervous, but I shouldn't have been. The apartments were great, and as for the staff they couldn't have been more helpful.
Booking day excursions and helping out in every way possible. Evening entertainment was very limited at the resort, but a short walk along the road took us to San Blas (about a mile) a lovely little village full of bars and restaurants catering for all your needs. I felt very welcomed at all the places we visited. And am even thinking about going back next year!!
Highly recommended to the first time traveler. I couldn't have asked for a better holiday.

We originally ended up at Greenpark...
10 / 10
Feb 2006, Miss K Tims

We originally ended up at Greenpark because of an allocation on arrival holiday. we loved it so much we have been back 4 times and are due to return again in March 2006. It is not somewhere to go if you are into nightclubs because there aren’t any - which is one of the reasons we love it. There are a number of small bars on Green Park and a large Irish bar over the road. So if you have had a tiring day just lying in the sun there isn’t far to go for a drink. The locals are all really helpful and there are lots of ex-pats so it is a home from home.
The apartments are airy and clean and the staff are really friendly. You can get a taxi to San Blas which is five minutes away where there is a large square offering a variety of different restaurants and bars. Greenpark is ideal for older couples or younger couples that just want to get away from the rat race for a rest. Not somewhere that is ideal for children as there isn’t much for them to do. This is another reason why we love it as it is a more adult holiday.
I would recommend (and have many times) Greenpark to anyone that wants a nice peaceful holiday to recharge their batteries.

Only once have my husband and I taken...
1 / 10
Jan 2004, Mrs D.M. Shoemark

Only once have my husband and I taken an 'allocated on arrival' holiday. Never again!
We were taken to the wonderful 'modern aparthotel', Green Park. How it got three stars is not only a mystery to us but also to the majority who stayed there towards the end of January 2002 - Sorry-you didn’t have 2002 as a choice!
The room was very dark, being only 4m away from a high concrete wall and there was a strong stench of bleach which stayed with us even away from the place.
There was an infestation of small black flies in both bathroom and kitchen and the latter was certainly unsuitable for food preparation and the bedding left much to be desired.
We complained. This took almost an hour due to the fact that so many others were also queuing to complain about their rooms. We were offered an alternative room but before using it, we spent a small fortune on cleaning materials! The Cosmos representative was less than useless and her attitude was so unbelievably arrogant. This was also the opinion of the rest of the guests we spoke to at the time.
The whole complex was in great need of renovation and whilst there, one of the swimming pools was having work carried out on it so nobody was able to use it. There was endless noise from a pneumatic drill which was being used to remove existing concrete and the remaining two pools were filthy, one being infested with beetles of some sort and the tiled surround of the other being coated with scum.
We were also unprepared for the low flying aircraft and the first I knew of how close they were to the complex was a terrific boom as one flew directly over our room about five minutes after we’d arrived. The roof of the complex is illuminated to guide the planes in.
On our return to England, we visited Trading Standards, complete with photographs, etcetera. They were extremely supportive and said that Cosmos had a case to answer to. They eventually ended up refunding the whole of our money.
The upshot of this holiday is that although Green Park really does need to be razed to the ground (we’ve visited the grounds since to see if they really were as bad as we remembered, and nothing seems to have changed) we fell in love with the area as a whole and are now looking for a holiday home there. In fact we’re staying at Las Adelfas (a lovely place to stay) across the road from Green Park, in September whilst we house hunt.
Yes, the planes do come in to land over the area but that part of it really is interesting, especially when sitting outside the Bar Taberna on a balmy evening with a cool drink and listening to Rossi’s silly Quizzes and watching the lights of the descending planes as they come in to land. In any case, we usually go off for the day on Tuesdays and Fridays which are the busiest days, hence noisiest, plane-wise.
We have since stayed at Sunset View, The Albatross and Aquamarina and can recommend these complexes highly.
The Golf Del Sur is not for those wanting lots of night life but it's a lovely, clean (except for the Green Park), friendly and peaceful place for a few weeks rest.

Jun 2003, lisawillisuk1

Apartments were more like 4* accommodation, with marble staircases and tasteful furniture, really good value for money! Very clean with two bathrooms! (Downstairs is wc and shower) .The location was ok, a bit of trek to get into town though. The view from one balcony was of a car-park and graffiti, but the other balcony looked out on a golf course. Good facilities, nice pool, nice place! Safety deposit boxes were available in reception. Good bus service from just outside the apartments every hour. Overall very pleased, excellent value for money!
