Along with friends we booked the Golf Plaza at Golf Del Sur as a getaway from it all post Christmas.
Upon arrival in Tenerife it was only a 10 minute journey from the airport to the hotel which was a nice change. The hotel is impressive on first impressions with a very grand reception area.
The apartments where an excellent size and our friends had a corner apartment with a huge corner balcony. The only complaint on the rooms was due to not being on the pool side of the building. We lost the sun quite early and so the large balconies where of no use as they did get quite windy on the 3rd floor and in the shade, if you get pool side it would be totally different.
The maids where very efficient and cleaned the rooms every day.
Overall the only issue with a very good hotel was being on the direct flight path for the airport, jump up and you can touch them, which stopped really being an issue after a day or two as the kids became plane spotters.
The pool was only part heated for part of the week and was unfit for use until it was heated later in the week.
The issue we had is that Golf Del Sur is a resort to go play golf have meal in your apartment and go to bed as there is very little else to do.
The local eateries where of very poor quality apart from the little cafe on the corner caddy shack which whilst basic was good quality and friendly.
The holiday was a taxi trip to San Blas for anything remotely busy and that was low key also to the point that the staff in the bars, would be putting away tables and closing down around you and dropping the bill on your table to leave which was on the verge of being rude.
This sounds a real moan which it could be seen to be, we had a relaxing holiday post Christmas, which was purely due to the excellent company of our friends and making our own entertainment.
If we had gone here as a couple we would have been let down without doubt and for two weeks we would have been pulling our hair out.
Ladies if you like to shop don’t go here.
Maybe if we were golfers who wanted nothing else, we would have enjoyed it!

We had a nice and sunny week in the GOLF PLAZA end of October 2006.
The apartments are OK, spacious, neatly cleaned every day. We had one with sea view. The ones on the street side look much less attractive to us.
The restaurant in the hotel is mediocre, more quantity than quality.
There is a very good Italian restaurant (run by Italians) close by on walking distance called Pizzeria GOLF PARK. Say goodbye to Gabriela!
The area is not really nice. Golf del Sur is a big construction site and the planes are landing and taking off (depends on the wind) right over you with a lot of noise!
On days/evenings there was no or little wind it became really smelly…..
For your convenience I would rent a car. Beaches are not near…and spending every day at the swimming pool is not what we would like to do.
A car makes it also easier to look around this island, do some shopping in one of the two supermarkets in Golf del Sur if you are not going out for dinner, as the bus that irregularly stops at the hotel, only brings you to Los Christianos. A taxi to Los Christianos is at least 15 Euro’s.
It was nice but we will not go back to this hotel.
One more thing: stay away from time share sellers or Travel Safe Holidays rep’s!

Very clean, spacious and comfortable 1 bed apartment. Ours was on an outside corner so had a large balcony. The only problem was that it seemed to catch the wind blowing across from the vacant lot opposite.
We ate dinner in the restaurant a couple of times and it was buffet style and good value. We ate breakfast there once but preferred to do our own thing on the terrace in the mornings. The kitchen didn't have a microwave and only had two rings but who wants to cook a roast dinner on holiday!.
Golf del Sur is fairly quiet (which we prefer) but there are good restaurants within walking distance. There is a nice tapas bar (run by a couple of Irish girls) 5 minutes away and the fishing village of Los Abrigos is about 30 minutes walk away where you will find a dozen or so really good fish restaurants (taxi back is recommended).

Lovely and spacious hotel very clean although a bit quite with not much entertainment. Will definitely return to this hotel if we are ever in the Golf again. The breakfast is very basic but as there is a kitchen area in the rooms that is not important.
We had a 2 bed apartment that I could not fault in any way clean large 2 bathrooms 2 balconies and a large lounge.
Golf Del Sur is still a quiet resort but a great place to go to relax.

GOLF PLAZA HOTEL. Our Holiday Opinion by Peter and Sally-Anne Green.
We were booked into the 4* Golf Plaza Hotel by our travel company and only after accepting the booking did we find some adverse write-ups on the net. So with a lot of trepidation we arrived at Tenerife, collected the hire car, (what a difference in price on the Internet, we went for the cheapest, hoping that the car would not be 101 years old and were delighted with an almost new one. Look around it is worth it,) and with map in hand set off for the Golf Plaza. You will find that the Hotel is set within a one way street system and I must say that when driving it is very difficult to see the big GOLF PLAZA sign nearly at roof level, so after driving round the one way system for the fourth time, we dove into a very impressive forecourt.
The first thing that impresses you most when first entering the Golf Plaza is the size of the reception area, all glass entrance with a sunken area in the centre with fauna and a water feature, a bar on your left and a gift shop on your right leading to a mini supermarket, the receptionists are on the far left with a massive glass window in front of you that overlooks 2 well looked after pools, a children’s pool and the sea across a golf course and some spare land. After making our way to reception and being helped by the most friendly and helpful staff I have encountered for a long time, we were directed to our apartment. As we walked into the apartment three words were uttered by us simultaneously. “Oh - My - God”, we were booked into one of the most luxurious, spacious, clean, modern, bright and airy apartments that we have stayed in for a long time. A very modern and clean bathroom, complete with bidet, a very spacious bedroom, with a massive wardrobe (somebody must have told them about my wife’s oversized suitcase) two comfortable 3 foot beds pushed together and a place to put your suitcases. A neat and well-equipped kitchen and a good-sized lounge/diner complete with sky TV leading out to a view that overlooked the pools and the sea. To our right we could see a mountain range in the distance and as we arrived late afternoon a glorious sunset to complete the view.
The restaurant was well equipped with good food and although not the cheapest saved a drive or a taxi ride to San Blas a shopping centre with lots of restaurants and shops about a mile away. One thing that did disappoint was the charge of 10 Euros per night to park the car in the underground car park. I felt that this was excessive and so parked in the street outside, but as it is hard to park back there if you go out in the evening for a meal, a taxi both ways to San Blas costs about 10 Euros with tips, so there is little difference and at least the car is safe. We found the most charming Chinese Restaurant called “The Canton” it does not do an “eat as much as you can for 6.95 Euros” but serves freshly cooked and hot, good food. A Chinese family runs it, a father and mother in the kitchen with youngest son and their two eldest children wait on table, they are only young, but could not be more helpful or organized if they had been trained by the top waiting staff in the world. They managed to be helpful, courteous and friendly with all customers and still keep nobody waiting for a meal. (Which is more than can be said for the Indian restaurant next door that kept us waiting for 2 hours for our main course? And I’m a diabetic. One chef here did nothing for the speed.) We tried a lot of the other restaurants and they were all friendly and gave good food and service.
The only down side to the area, was the fact that it was on the flight path for Tenerife South Airport and the planes flew overhead with regularity. I thought that they would be intrusive, but was pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise in the Hotel room, in fact it was interesting to sit and watch them fly overhead and see what type and where they had come from.
Do not be afraid to go to the Golf Plaza. It is clean, reasonable and a lovely hotel and area. All the staff are friendly and helpful and their easy, relaxed attitude is probably due to a manager that appears to be one of the workers, not a tyrant cracking his whip.
Holiday in peace and enjoy!!!!

What an excellent holiday in fantastic surroundings, the rooms and facilities are second to none. We were a little concerned that we would be disturbed by the planes but the hotel was away from the flight path so it didn’t bother us at all.
We would recommend this hotel to everybody as there is plenty to do for all sorts of people as there is so many difficult sorts of activities around the Golf Del Sur and on site.

We have just arrived back from our weeks stay at the Golf Plaza. After having stayed at other 4 star hotels in Golf Del Sur, I can confidently say that this hotel is nearer a 3 star hotel.
Whilst the rooms are spacious, the food is appalling to the point that we gave up trying to work out what was on offer, and then to see dead flies that were left on the cakes just turned our stomachs, so we ended up eating out. The catering staff have a lot to learn and even the basics of letting the clientele know what’s on offer would help!
