Our first visit to Tenerife, and we had a wonderful holiday. The hotel was spotlessly clean, food and restaurant facilities excellent, and the staff were all first class, very friendly and hard working. We were there for a fortnight, and every day two ladies tidied and cleaned our room to a very high standard.
We had been warned that the 'basement rooms' were to be avoided if possible, and when we arrived at reception and were told our room was on one of the lower floors, our hearts sank! However, we need not have worried, as being on a hill meant our 'basement room' still had good views over the town and we also had a sea view. Also, we later found out that these lower floors had recently been upgraded, and our huge room had the advantage of a large balcony with sliding windows, which kept out any traffic noise. Also in December the nights were a little cool, so we were able to leave our patio doors open, but the balcony windows closed, therefore keeping warm at night.
The choice and standard of the food was exceptionally high, and the reataurant staff very attentive and helpful.
We knew the hotel was on a hill, and were prepared for the walk into town via 118 steps, or a steep slope. Makes your heart beat a beat faster coming back up again, but we soon got used to it. However, we made friends with a lovely couple who had booked through a travel agent, and had not been told about the steep incline. As the lady was in a wheelchair, both the steps and the slope were impossible for them to negotiate, and they were rarely able to leave the hotel to go down to the town and beach area.
If we had one criticism of the El Tope it would be that the evening entertainment was rather 'bland'. However, our rep told us we could use the facilities of the Casa Blanca apartments next door, where we enjoyed the evening entertainment, including flamenco dancing. One advantage of this was that our hotel was always very quiet at night.
Altogether one of our favourite holidays, and we will certainly go back again.

Great hotel. The staff are superb. The food was great and the room with veiw over the town just right.
What a lovely town PdeLC is . All the shopping you could want with lovely seafront. Plenty of restaurants if you need them catering for everyone.
There are steps back up to the hotel, give them a try, they aren't too bad.
The rep , Jayne, was not very helpful. If you want her you have to go to the hotel next door and at very odd times when you should be out enjoying youselves. Luckily we didn't need her.
This time of year in northern Tenerife is perfect. 70 to 80 deg every day, no rain.
We will be back New year 2010

Me and my boyfriend went away for a week and it was great! I cannot fault anything about this hotel, the food was great, the staff were friendly and everything was kept very clean.
I was a bit disappointed that I got told it was a child free hotel, and when we had our first breakfast there was children.
The hotel is in a great location with lovely views but is on a very steep climb.

Excellent hotel, with friendly and helpful staff. Entertainment group were excellent, will be booking to go again next year!
The rooms were lovely with lovely views of the sea and of mount Teide; they were also very clean and tidy.
The food at the hotel was excellent, very tasty indeed! Wasn't a far walk from the beach, shops and bars which was excellent!

Arrived at El Tope Hotel on 6th November 2006.
The hotel is great along with the food which is second to none. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms big and had a maid service every day with fresh towels.
The location is nice but on a hill and 118 steps down to the main strip and supermarket complex. Thomson staff were on site every day.
I would recommend this hotel to family and friends. Weather was great, entertainment could have been better but Sway was good.

Very good hotel and room - fantastic. Good place to relax and chill.
Also a great view of the volcano and mountain ranges and The Atlantic Ocean.
Situated in the Island of Tenerife, this magnificent hotel is the place to be for a relaxing and fantastic holiday.
Very good keyboard players in the bar every evening at dinner time and very good entertainment on other evenings e.g.: theatre companies performing various shows and singers singing the old time favourites.

Having just returned from the El Tope hotel we can tell you that it is indeed a smashing hotel.
It is at the top of a very steep hill but there is a regular free bus service from the hotel to the town and taxis are plentiful and only cost a few euros to take you back up said cardiac hill. Food was tasty varied and well presented and everyone dressed for dinner. Staff on the whole were pleasant with the exception of one or two reception staff. The female receptionist was very helpful though.
Be careful that you don’t end up in our original room. It was two floors below the reception and the view was of a sewage pipe, some old tyres and of course the cockerels who crow for hours. I complained and was moved to another room for the sum of 20 euros. It was more than worth it. Thanks to Maureen Gonzalez our Thomson rep. She is worth her weight in gold.

We had a wonderful holiday at the El Tope hotel.
The rooms were clean and very nice and we were even moved by the staff to a superior room when I found we were being woken early by the roosters near the hotel.
One point beware the early morning roosters on the pool side of the hotel.
We had great views of Teide and the coast and the buffet was always good with plenty of choice.
The staff and Thomson reps [plus entertainment] were great.
We will be returning next year.

We stayed at the hotel El Tope for two weeks and would not go back. The hotel is in fact pretty good on most counts but there were a few disadvantages. There’s stairs from the town up to the hotel that would kill you, but taxis are cheap.
The air-conditioning is a poor joke and we ended up buying a small fan at 22 euros to cool the room. The deal we went with was Thompson’s Gold but the hotel was polluted with kids, and that’s not what we paid a premium for. The kids were mainly Spanish and German. And other small things that just wore away the top flight image that this hotel has positioned itself.
Fruit juices were of the diluting kind, not fresh and the number of men who wore football shirts at dinner. Between that and the kids it turned a dinning experience (the food was very good) just into getting fed and out again.
So overall.. about 6 out of 10.

This was our first visit to Tenerife and first with Thomson Gold and we weren’t disappointed with either.
The hotel was first class as one would hope having read the brochures. The staff were most helpful and friendly, the quality and selection of food was excellent though vegetarians may find the choice limited.
Overall the hotel maintained high standards of comfort, cleanliness, and service.
The Thomson girls were helpful and the entertainment reps. worked hard to entertain during the day and in the evening.
Puerto de la Cruz is a bigger resort than we had imagined and although we were prepared for the 118 steps up to the hotel we didn’t appreciate that to go anywhere away from the seafront involved many steps or hills to climb. This could be difficult for the less able.
We really enjoyed our visit and wouldn’t hesitate to return to Puerto de la Cruz and El Tope.

The Hotel El Tope was a lovely hotel being a Thomson Gold. There were an only a few children at this hotel as English children under 16 are not allowed.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the reps worked very very hard putting on entertainment throughout the day and performing shows at the hotel’s theatre in the evening. Being 27 we found this a little old for us as the more mature people preferred this entertainment.
The food was presented superbly and a vast amount of choice if you are meat and fish eaters. However, if you are vegetarian, there were only 3 dishes per day and this was a little weird. For example, on one night there were chunks of cabbage, deep fried cheese about 5cms square, and plain spaghetti (no sauce). Of course there were the chips or other potato choices to accompany your cabbage, but we felt this was unsatisfactory for a main meal which you have paid a substantial amount of money for! There was always a huge amount of mousse to choose from every evening, with ice cream and fresh fruit. On alternate evenings, there was a themed evening in the restaurant.
The area was very nice, although the hotel was up 118 steps from the main shopping area or you could walk up a very steep road. Not ideal for the elderly or disabled.
Overall, we enjoyed our holiday, but were very disappointed with the evening meals as we ended up eating out most nights and cost us more. We would not have managed to stay here for longer than the week, this is the quieter area of Tenerife.

This hotel made for a great holiday, we were aware of the steps as we were informed of this when we booked the holiday at the CO-OP travel agency in Oxted. The food is varied and caters for all tastes. The room we had was on the 4th floor with a balcony and a sea view. Yes the evening entertainment was bland but it was still very good. There is a lot to do in the town, plenty of reasonable priced places to have lunch. The staff were very helpful and the room was cleaned to a high standard each morning. The only real gripe I had with the holiday was the leg room on the aircraft, Thomas Cook really sqeeze you in, as a six footer I had a vet cramped flight both ways.
