Best New Year Ever
from teamyummymummy
We went out on 29th December with our daughter friend and two young babies. The appartments are kept really clean and as most people comment a little dated (pure 1960). We overlooked the harbour and although you are over the bars and restaurants we never heard a peep. A big downer especially having young babies was the lack of clean towels it was a little like expecting caviar at the local chippy perhaps i should have asked more. The location is perfect and the pool facilities are superb more than enough loungers no need to fight folks. There are numerous bars and restaurants to choose from some better than others. Nice place up on the square up the steps and on your right name has slipped my memory. New Years eve is superb huge party on the square live band fun atmosphere. Los Gigantes is a lovely resort i would not recommend a group of 18-30's landing there for a wild week of clubbing. Our daughter and her friend are 22 and 25 and real party girls at the start of our first night they were looking grim and i think dreading the rest of the week, that soon changed and we had a ball this resort changes your outlook and totally chills you out. The weather was fab fab fab and myself and my partner are returning to these appartments again in late April. If you are a little bad on your leggs the town is on a good hill, we used this as our workout instead of the gym. Put this resort on places you must visit if you love the village feel friendly locals no pestering from touts. If you stay in these appartments remember they are basic if you want 5 star ritz then you should not even be reading my opinion. They are an ideal base for a really relaxing holiday Have a great time wish we were there
Nice relaxing holiday
from Visitornumber
The apartments are in a very good location right on the marina. I booked through Thomson Hotels and the room we got was nice and clean, however, it is about time the rooms were slightly updated, they do not look like they have been touched since the sixties. But for the price we paid it was quite good, we were not expecting the Hilton. Also the apartments are built on a wood structure which is riddled with termites and coming from a construction background i was slightly concerned on how safe the structure actually was. In fact the window casements in our bedroom were so bad i took the precaution of keeping the window closed throughout the holiday. If anyone from Thomson reads this review you might want to look into this asap. The resort is a lovely place (even better without all the ex-pats that have currently set up home there) and well situated to explore the rest of the Island, I would highly recommend hiring a car to do this. Things to do Visit Loro Paraque - a must if you have a young family, the dolphin show was really good. Walk down the sea front at Adeje - some lovely views and hotels there. Eat out at Marrinders & Restaurant Del Sol - great services and lovely food Visit Oasis public pool - 4 Euro to hire a sunbed and the food and the girls who serve it are really nice, the views across the harbour are great too. Things not to do Stay away from the big restaurant over the road from Little Italy (wish i could remember its name) The service and the food is very poor - i ordered garlic chicken and when it came to the table it looked quite nice but when i cut in to it blood started pouring out, when i pointed this out i was offered no discount or apology. I would'nt even take my dog to eat at this place stay well away Also stay away from the Highland Paddy & the Green Corner this place is run by ex-pats who for some reason think they own the resort. When in fact when you walk by them both usually there is more staff than customers. They also play their music really loud on the evening and this spoils the atmosphere in the surrounding restaurants. These types of bars would be far more suited in the Blackpool abroad resorts. Lets hope no more move to the resort and spoil it even more. Overall a real nice holiday and i would definately go again, of course staying away from the above places.
Churchills a definate must
from Brummy_boy2712
Arrived very late at night, but was still able to get food from Churchills bar in the Marina, and they do a fantastic menu for such a small place. The guy who has the place, Andy is very friendly and all the staff are really helpful. Only place where you can get good cheap drinks too!
Just the job !

We visited here on our 1st wedding anniversary. The appartment was very clean and spacious. We had a balcony that overlooked the marina, and it was very romantic!. During the day we often sat on the balcony just watching the locals pottering around with their boats and, in the evenings wa would watch the sun go down over the harbour. We also had stunning views of those famous Los Gigantes cliffs. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Los Gigantes. Beware of the time share sharks, sometimes a firm 'no' isnt enough as they are very persistant, its easier and less stressful if you just ignore them and walk away! Los Gigantes is a great base for exploring the rest of Tenerife, you can get the local bus down to Los Christianos and Playa de las Americas, it takes about an hour, and, on the way back the bus takes a different route through the rural villages, so you get to see more of the local way of life. We went dolphin watching from the harbour at Los Gigantes. Mount Teide is a must, the national park looks like the moon (not that we've ever visited the moon!!). All in all we had a fantastic time and we would definately recommend the Poblado Marinero as a base. The location and the apartment was definately a place where you could just chill out and, if you wanted to party, then Las Americas is only a bus ride away.
nice relaxing holiday
from cuzenz
Just got back from staying there a week - We thought that the apartments are very basic but very clean and big, had everything you need. we had lovely sea/marina view. They are really close to the beach and the pool. we loved the pool, very clean with nice restaurant. we didnt spend much time on the beach as dark sand which gets stuck to everything, but lovely views of the cliffs down there. there are plenty of places to eat in los gigantes, our favourites were bella napoli which is down on the marina and a small english cafe towards the top of the hill which had nice baguettes for lunch. most restaurants seem to serve the same kind of dishes - pasta, steak, seafood etc but we didnt have a bad meal whilst there. the only downsides to this hoiday were that the rubbish trucks are noisy and did seem to come every night at about 12ish but it depends on where your apartments are and i dont think it wouldve been loud enough to wake you. also the reception staff are not very helpful at all-kept asking for a fan as they advertise that you can rent one but they said they didnt have one, they dont speak very good english and didnt seem bothered about finding us one! All in all we had lovely relaxing holiday, the resort is small but just what we were looking for, it might get slightly boring though if your staying for 2 weeks you might want more things to do.
Avoid Miranda's restaurant unless you like half cooked seafood!

Relaxation was what I had in mind when I booked this holidayfor myself, my partner and our 5 year old son. Having read other reviews of the Poblado Marinero on this site I was a little concerned about what to expect! Here are my top ten tips for survival - Five bad and five good! 1. If you believe you have pre booked and paid for a late check out on the day you return home, check, check and check again! I cannot stress this enough as it happened to me and completely spoilt the end of my holiday. The male check out receptionist was really rude to me, not believing I had pre-booked this and threatening to call the police. In the end I walked off in tears to discover he had phoned my rep to report me! The reps dealt with this so I did not have to pay another 40 euros and advised me to forget about it. Then at the Airport I was met off the coach by other Thomson reps wanting me to pay 40 Euros again! In the end it was sorted out and I didn't have to pay. All Thomson reps were great about it but it was a really disturbing experience for me and ruined what had been a relaxing break!!!! 2. Take the advice of other reviewers of this hotel (as I did) and book a fan and a safe key as soon as you arrive. It is about 20 euros deposit. What I would also advise is to hire a TV. I was not aware I could have done this until the last night. Otherwise the only choice is the TV lounge downstairs. Why you have to pay to hire a fan and a TV is another of the mysteries of the Poblado Marinero! 3. Other reviewers have said this is a noisy hotel. I thought I was prepared for this but I wasn't! Yes, the rubbish collection is around midnight each night and it is extremely noisy if your apartment faces the street by the beach. What is worse though is the street cleaners and their tank of jet spray water at about 2am!!! They scrub and scrub and shout and yell for at least half an hour. The good news is that it is not every night. It was Tuesday and Friday I think when I was there. You can ask to be moved to another room but I doubt it will make much difference. Oh, I forgot to mention the underground car park which closes at about 11.30pm and is also noisy. 4. Watch out for the mad drivers! I was put off hiring a car by reading reviews of the local drivers! I saw plenty of evidence of it too! If you have small children, be especially careful at the Marina and on the beach road (which is so narrow I thought it was pedestrianised so be warned asit is in fact a busy two way street!) 5. The worst restaurant we ate at was Mirandas at the top of the village near the taxi rank. If you love half cooked tepid seafood in foul smelling sauce, this is the place for you. It was our most expensive meal and the waiters were really mean and surly. There was also this really bizarre fetish type thing going on where the waiters tied adult sized bibs around the necks of elderly diners! I kid you not!!! At first I thought that one elderly family had brought their own bibs and we were trying not to stare but as the evening wore on other people were given the bibs too! Perhaps I'm just feeling bitter and neglected as we were not invited to join in with whatever was going on. (League of Gentleman territory here with the "special" orders perhaps?) 6. Los Gigantes itself is lovely, if a little remote. We did not venture out of the village as we only wanted a pool and sea holiday but you could get taxis to nearby resorts from 3 euros. If you wanted to go further afield to Las Americas it would be about 30 euros. Buses are also cheap. Other reviewers have provided numbers, routes etc so I won't bother. There is enough to do in Los Gigantes itself for about a week. If you are staying longer book some trips with Thomson or you may go stir crazy! 7. I have to mention Jessi's restaurant also. If you haven't been there, you are probably wondering, as I was, what all the fuss is about! The seafood is FRESH, the food is typically Canarian and the waiters are so nice! Most of the food in Los Gigantes is pizza, pasta or British food so it is great to eat freshly cooked Canarian food. If you can afford it, pre-order the lobster for a special treat. The chef is a real star. Other places I recommend are a lovely French bistro and crepparie opposite Highland Paddy 3 and just before Verdi's shopping arcade. I can't remember its name but we ate there twice and the food was great. Finally for those of you whose other half just has to try out a British pub (!), the most favoured was Offshore 44 at the Marina where the staff are great and you get a 10% discount card. Funny thing going on there with eggs at the moment though! Nearly forgot the other popular staple on these pages - Harbour Lites Mexican and Bistro. Nice but expensive! 8. Swimming. You have two local options, both of which are free. The saltwater lido pool by the hotel is lovely and clean. The same staff from the hotel who serve you breakfast work there in the snack bar. Cheap and cheerful food and drink but if you can't be bothered to treck high up the hill to the cheaper supermarkets it will do for lunch. The Lido is currently closed for maintenence until 15 June. You get free entry to the Oasis instead but it is not quite as good. The beach may look small but kids will love it. The sand looks strange but is really soft and warm. Drinks are available close by at Jessi's. You will see why it is "The only restaurant on the beach" when you have visited! 9. If you want to rock the Chav or Pikey look then you have come to the right place! Walk up to the Los Gigantes Hotel and there are a number of small "boutiques" where Burberry is king! OK I admit I bought something (D &G flip flops) but the shame of carrying a Burberry bag back down the hill was almost unbearable! I understand that larger resorts offer the full range, as does the Airport duty free. Lacoste and Timberland seem popular here too. Cheaper (and really bad) copies of bags and caps can be bought from shops by the beach and lido. Check out the CK combined with Louis Vuitton style rip off black bags for the "bargain" price of about 35 euros! 10. Finally, you must take at least one boat trip. Everyone will have their favourites but if you have a 5 year old boy who aspires to the Jack Sparrow pirate/ rock star thing then choose Flipper Uno. You can imagine you are on a real pirate galleon with food, drink, music, dolphin watching and a swim at Masca Bay! Hope this rambling has helped some of you decide whether Los Gigantes is for you. I know that other comments I read here helped me plan for my holiday, although nothing could have prepared me for the rude and threatening check out receptionist! Bitter, me? Where on earth did you get that idea from?

Stayed at Pablado Marinero for two weeks. Had lovely apartment overlooking the Marina. Basic but reasonable apartment. Maid service not up to much.Los Gigantes is a great place to stay and the hills are not as bad as expected. Great restarants very close. Our favourites were Jessi's by the beach, and CK's Bistro. Also Harbour Lights very good. Would stay again at these apartments.
Poblado Marinero Apartments

Just got back from Los Gigantes and stayed at the Poblado Marinero Apartments. Excellent weather and had some excellent meals and the Lido was brilliant. We stayed in 1st floor apartments at the rear of the complex. We had asked for a quiet room as we are in late 60's. The noise from the road at the back was awful.Noisy shops and cafes, when we tried to rest in the afternoons it was a waste of time, people constantly shouting and noisy. Know that are entitled to enjoy their holiday but we were in one of the noisiest apartments. They used to empty the bins every night at about 12-30, with orange lights flashing and bottles and cans crashing into the vehicle. Having said that the apartments were very basic, but roomy and kept very clean. My sister in the next apartment left her mobile phone (£179) in the room one morning by mistake. When we got back it had been stolen. There were no broken windows or sign of a break in, obviously someone with a key. We found out later that the apartment next door had had £350 stolen from cupboard drawers and shorts pockets, where they had hidden it. My sister had left her money in the safe so was very lucky that she had not lost that as well. Management were very apologetic but it was obviously an inside job. We loved Los Gigantes apart from the moans above and would go again and hopefully get a quiet apartment.
Most relaxing holiday ever!!!

Took my mam away for a week long break here in May 2004 and was pleasantly surprised, I'm a regular visitor to the South of the island but had never ventured further afield. Los Gigantes is a beautiful relaxing place completely different from Los Cristianos and Las Americas and perfect if you want a quiet relaxing holiday. I found the apartments to be of a very high standard and when we were there, rooms were cleaned 4 times in the week, towels were changed everytime and the rooms were left immaculate. We didn't have any problems with noise when we stayed there especially in the evenings when it was practically silent (not much happens in this resort after 11pm) Didn't really have much to do with other hotel staff (reception etc) so can't comment on their service, however the in situ thomson rep was excellent and extremely helpful. Apartments are at the bottom of the resort located near the bautiful marina so there is an uphill walk to main resort area (los gigantes is very hilly) If you stay at these aprtments you get free use of the pool and facilities at the lido across the road which was lovely and kept very clean. Breakfast was available in the apartments for €5 per person and it's well worth the money, fresh fruit, youghurt, pastries, croisants, toast plus the chef will cook you whatever you like at no extra charge (bacon, egg, sausage etc). Los Gigantes itself is very small with only a tiny black sand beach (round the corner from apts) but it does have lots of excellent restaurants - I would highly recommend Harbour Lights Mexican by the marina, Little Italy,(right next to apts up the hill), El Pescadors and Flamingos. Eating out is fairly cheap but be warned drinking is not - many of the bars (especially the english owned) were charging €5 or €6 for a bottle of alcopop and around €4.50 for a pint of local beer. There are cheaper bars around but don't expect bargain prices anywhere - if you want that head to Las Americas. You can catch a bus into Las Americas/Cristianos (no 473) which is fairly reliable and cheap however don't know if I'd trust the buses later at night (it's a 50 minute ride away). This was the only downside to Los Gigantes, if you do get bored easily you may find yourself wishing you were closer to the action. However my mam absolutely loved the place, I'd certainly recommend it for more mature guests, young families and honeymooners.
Christmas 2004

We were in Los Gigantes for a week at Christmas, arriving Christmas Eve, going home New Year's Eve. We stayed at the Poblado Marinero apartments down at the Los Gigantes marina. The apartments were very noisy. You could hear people in the apartments near you, what was going on downstairs and in the corridors. The building could do with sound proofing. The rooms were unclean, very basic, the bathroom had a terrible smell, the floors dirty and the maids only did the very basic cleaning. The reception were unhelpful. The beds were v uncomfortable and the noise meant you never got a good night's sleep. It was not "shorts" weather - about 14-19 degrees. Take jeans/trousers and jumper and jacket with you as it is quite windy and does get cold in the winter. We made trips with the Travel and Excursion Centre - to Loro Parque, Mount Teide and neighbouring island, La Gomera. If you are staying at Los Gigantes expect a long trip around the island to Loro Parque. Except for the dolphin and sea lion show (which if you've already been to Sea World you've seen it done better) the park is disappointing. Take your own picnic with you as food places not v good and seating limited. A trip to Mount Teide is well worth it. You have to make the cable car trip to near the summit. 20 euros each for adults. Get there early as queues get long towards mid morning. Very cold at Mount Teide in the winter months -take warm clothing, scarf and gloves, with you. The day trip to La Gomera was ok -a trip across on an old style ferry was included in the price of our trip which took 1.5 hrs, although Fred Olsen Express takes 30 mins. If you are eating out in Tenerife I'd recommend Asturias (in square near church - good food but slow service), Mistinguette (had xmas dinner here - good set menu with 5 courses - booked in advance from the UK), Sinatras (great food - would recommend the Fillet Gipsy Mignon - located behind the church - rose for female guest at end of meal -lovely quiet setting), Little Italy (great service, staff and food, the Calypso Coffee is recommended - my partner and I had 2 each!), Terraza (located on the marina - friendly staff, wide and varied menu). There is little more to do in Los Gigantes other than eat and drink and go out on the few trips offered. There are a lot of English stye pubs and eateries which can get quite rowdy. Overall, the required short, last minute break we needed at christmas but not for us for a holiday!
