" The apartments are elderly but well... "
Submitted By: Mr D George
The apartments are elderly but well maintained and spotlessly clean. There is no Bar on site which my wife and I found a slight disadvantage as it is where you tend to meet new friends.
The Lido to which guests have free access is excellent in all respects and there is a Lifeguard in attendance at all times. It also offers a very nice Poolside Bar and has good toilet, changing room and shower facilities.
Nightlife is a little limited in the town and, as it is built into a hill it is most definitely not for any person with mobility difficulties....we cannot emphasise this enough. An added complication is that coaches are not allowed down the narrow roads that lead to the apartments. This means a fairly lengthy walk both ways with your cases and the hill is quite steep.
The Marina itself is quite picturesque and there are several bars and shops if you do not feel like the great trek up the hill. There is also a small black sand beach a short distance away and its location lent itself to catching the last of the day’s sun.
We enjoyed our stay and would go again. The only real problem that annoyed us was our inability to find a really good place to eat until approaching the end of our holiday. There is a very large Italian Restaurant located where the coach drops you off and it is known as Little Italy. Trust us, they really do think that they are doing you a favour by allowing you to eat at their tables and get most upset if you should dare to complain at having waited 45 minutes for a drink and to have your order taken. It does, however serve one really useful purpose....it is exactly opposite a smallish bar and cafe/restaurant known as Ocean Drive - Yes, we thought it a funny name too. The owner is a guy called Richard and his culinary skills have to be tasted to be believed. You receive a very warm and genuine welcome from a young lady called Claire who cannot do enough for you. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced. Nothing is pre cooked and arrives piping hot accompanied by a beaming smile.
Overall we had a good time. We are both in our 50 s but not yet totally over the hill if you will excuse the pun. There were a number of similarly aged people but it also seemed to appeal to families with pre school aged children.

" We just got back from our Winter... "
Submitted By: danny_boy
We just got back from our Winter Holiday this morning (1:20am we landed) This was a fantastic holiday. I went with my parents and my sister, me being the 17 year old found Los Gigantes at first quite boring and became disinterested as there isn't really much to do during the evenings. The apartments don't have a bar/entertainment and the bars that do really cater for the older person, in the Winter anyway.
Cleaning in these apartments is fantastic the maids do a great job and come and clean every other day!
Rooms are very spacious in the winter are quite cold at night!
The swimming pool (Lido) is just across a quiet road, you have to get a ticket if you are staying in the Poblado Marinero so you can have free access, if you walk all the way across you will find a small Lagoon which is really beautiful you can swim in that and snorkel! Be warned when sunbathing on the Lido or Lagoon DO NOT put your bed near the ocean as when it gets rough (around 3pm every day) the waves do come over and hit you.
If you are looking for a bite to eat in the daytime try the bars on the harbour they are quite reasonable prices, there is an Austrian Bar which serve up delicious toasties just a shame about the service really! TJ's bar do a good afternoon menu and serve food up til 3pm (baguettes/chips/butties etc) and in the day it is only 1€ a pint!! In the evening Monique's Restaurante is very nice but expensive, they also add a 5% charge on the top of your bill. Richardsons is a very nice little English bar where you can eat and drink and play pool.
TJ's was my favourite bar the owners are so funny. TJ's Entertainment Bar is situated right under Stil Los Gigantes Hotel which you can't miss. Joanne Love is amazing she is Irish and so down to earth she truly is a star, she sings, dances, tells jokes and she made me help her in the evening once which was quite cheeky but I didn't mind! Keep an eye out for Paul the glass thrower, bottle spinner, very funny guy but down to earth. John and Joanne are his mum and dad, John is a legend he is just great. Jay is Scottish, great guy he will chat to anyone, he is just great if you see him tell him Danny said Hi...Thanks.
Jay also does tennis coaching at the Hotel Los Gigantes which is just behind TJ's for 25€ an hour with racquets.
!!!WARNING!!!
>YOU MAY NOT HAVE A GUIDE/REP ON YOUR COACH ON ARRIVAL AND DEPARTING
>NO SMOKING IS ALLOWED IN ANY AREA OF TENERIFE AIRPORT
>IT IS THE LAW THAT YOU CANNOT SMOKE INSIDE MOST PLACES IN TENERIFE ALTHOUGH SOME DO HAVE PERMITS
Other than the above The Pablado Marinero Apartments are fantastic to stay in, Los Gigantes is a beautiful, picturesque place (quite boring in the winter for children) and Tenerife is just an amazing place altogether!
ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY IN LOS GIGANTES and say Hello to Jo, John, Paul and Jay in TJ's Bar from Danny!!!

Beautiful, idyllic fishing village. Has main pool 2 mins walk from apartments, which has bar, eating area, natural swimming lake too where children can go snorkelling.
Apartments are very big and spacious, with two bathrooms and two large balconies from sitting room to bedroom. Very impressive. Very clean.
Breakfast is available every morning, cheaper rate for paying guests. Lots of wonderful restaurants and bars to choose from all within easy walking distance.
Excellent place for families and those who wish a quiet holiday.

" I have just come back from my holiday... "

I have just come back from my holiday (2 days ago) and found this to be a very relaxing holiday.
Good features are: Helpful staff at the apartments, regular maid service, located very close to the beach and beautiful swimming pool located across a quiet road, on site supermarket stocking lots and including household names (eg Heinz), lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, breath-taking views, beautiful weather, can hire CD player for 10 euros a week.
Not so good features are: hardly any nightlife if that's what you want, resort is very quiet so don't visit this one if you want something more lively, no kids clubs (unlike what other resorts may offer).
Overall though I would definitely visit Los Gigantes again as I needed to relax and recuperate and certainly was able to do this there!

" The Poblado Marinero Apartments in... "

The Poblado Marinero Apartments in the quiet Tenerife resort of Los Gigantes are my idea of HEAVEN !
The apartments themselves are spacious and clean, pleasantly equipped (think rustic furnishings but modern kitchens), they have good balconies and even better terraces. They’re at the bottom of the resort right by the sea, and the views are magnificent. I’ve stayed there twice and I will DEFINATELY go there again. 2 bed apartments have 2 bathrooms so they’re not overcrowded. The only drawback is lack of air con - and the fans can be a bit naff... (best take your own if u can be bothered to carry one).
Staff are pleasant enough but u won’t see them very often, this being a self-catering accommodation. The cleaners come often enough and keep the place spotless. The apartments don’t do entertainment, but there’s plenty of it in resort so don’t worry about that. There is a small bar and a pool table but that’s about It.
Los Gigantes is a STEEP resort, with the Poblado Marinero Apartments, the Lido swimming pool complex (which u can use free of charge), harbour with bars and beach all at the bottom of a BIG hill. Don’t come if u can’t walk far. But I’ve seen pensioners and people pushing prams make it to the top without passing out, so it’s not impossible !
Up hill there are more bars and restaurants, but it’s not a "typical" Tenerife resort at all. The bars often have comedians and entertainers on, but there’s no wet t-shirts or kids behaving badly. Try the bar just at the entrance to the Thomson Gold Hotel Los Gigantes up the hill at the point where you’re about to collapse, it’s got a great atmosphere and the drinks are cheap ! Alternatively, there’s Churchill’s on the harbour front. They famously sell the largest drinks on the island and run quizzes, shows, and all sorts of nonsense each night ! (Oh, and they do a killer English breakfast if u go for that sort of thing !). Top restaurant is the one at the start of the harbour, on the corner. Huge portions, cheap prices, and they give u free liquors after !
Don’t come to this place if u want to be smashed out of your head day and night - try Las Americas instead ! Choose Los Gigantes if u want pretty surroundings and night time entertainment. The views are amazing and if u arrive at night u won’t understand why I say this until u see the cliffs in the morning....
There are plenty of things to do in Tenerife, u can visit the volcano, take an island tour and see the sights, go on a jeep safari into the mountains (v. much recommended despite the price), take a boat trip to see dolphins, or just laze about in the blistering sunshine all day until it’s time to party.
Beware the weather - 1st time we went was in June and it was pretty hot. Last year we went in August, which was kinda like hell on earth ! Go out of season if u can afford it, it’ll be much more bearable. I will DEFINATELY go to Los Gigantes again, but never in July or August. I fancy November or February actually....
I can’t recommend this resort and the Poblado Marinero Apartments too highly. They’re really great if u want to be close to the sea, have plenty of restaurants and bars to visit, a chilled and safe environment, and sunshine day after day after day...

The appartments were lovely. Very clean and spacious, with the lido right next door, to which patrons have free access. The lido too was well looked after and calm, a perfect place to spend the day.
Portland direct were fantastic. As they are joined to Thompson the holiday was very professional and cheap.
The resort itself was extremely quiet - too quiet for us. There are a few very nice bars and restaurants, but it is very quiet at night, and not a cheap place to drink. we were lucky to be there in the week of the fiesta, and so there were street parties every night at the next resort, SANTIAGO, but if that had not been there, we would have been quite bored.
A lovely family resort, or one for the older generation.

I stayed at the Poblado Marinero for 6 months in total, whilst working abroad. The situation of the apartments is great, just walk down the steps and you’re at the marina, which is a working marina with boat trips, fishermen, etc. There are also quite a few bars and restaurants along there.

Obviously if you have an apartment overlooking the marina, you'll have great views...but you will also be subject to late music/crowd noise and general hub-bub in the mornings. However, if you’re at the back, facing the road leading to the beach, you might be bothered by the bin-men at 4am, the choice is yours! One problem with these apartments is the Cockroaches, from tiny ones to bloomin' great big flying ones! but to be very honest they are to be expected anywhere in Tenerife during the summer...just like we have May Bugs in May.

The other thing is that the rest of the charming little town of Los Gigantes is up a hill...OK if you’re coming down on the way home though. Bonuses with this accommodation apart from it’s proximity to the marina are having quite a decent, but basic restaurant...very cheap and last but certainly not least, the magnificent pool!!! There is an entire complex across the road, which is fabulous, and guests at this accommodation get in free.

The beach is also just next door to the apartments and even though it’s black sand it is very picturesque and is overlooked by those amazing cliffs that this resort is so well known for.

There is no shortage of evening entertainment, however, no late night bars or discos in the resort made this an ideal holiday for us. Despite previous comments, we tried little Italy restaurant and had an excellent meal with very quick service. In fact we didn't have one bad meal and ate out all week.
In all a very reasonably priced holiday that we would find very hard to fault, thank you Thompson’s!
