We have never written a review before but want to warn people before they book not to expect the same 4 star gold standard that they may have experienced in other locations.
I am sure this hotel was once very good but it is desperately in need of refurbishment and a good clean of furnishings. The reception carpets were dirty and badly stained, the sofas dirty and had cigarette holes in them. The bedding was worn out. The rooms on one side of the hotel look out over a road and noisy bars. We moved hotel!

Nice place. As a vegetarian I was relieved to find the food at Hotel Los Gigantes more than adequate. There was a wide choice at both breakfast and the evening meal, and generally I really enjoyed my meals. The fresh dates at breakfast were seriously missed when I got home. My carnivorous partner didn't like the food as much as I did. The staff were nearly all very pleasant indeed. The place was clean. We had a room on the land side, and although the view was interesting and not at all unpleasant, at night there was quite a bit of noise from the bars etc near the hotel. If you can afford it, get a room on the sea side, which should be quieter and have beautiful sea views across to La Gomera and the sunsets. Anyway, we are going again this year, same place, same time. PS Tenerife is brilliant for walking. Hire a car and the island is yours.
- Advice: Nice small town.
- Activities: The island is beautiful away from the tourist strip.

Stayed at this hotel recently, first time of booking a Thomson Holiday and not at all impressed. The hotel was dated and seemed to be stuck in a late 70's timewarp. Several of the public rooms could do with refurbishment. The food was so so - glad we only had a week to sample the food as it was unadventurous and quite bland - it would have become boring to endure more of the same on the second week. Breakfast was quite often only luke warm. However, the bedrooms were very clean and towels were changed regularly.
A considerable proportion of the other holiday-makers were obviously regular visitors and seemed to know one another. They tended to all stay together, quite clicky.
The queue for the sunbeds in the morning had to be seen to be believed. They were queuing by 7.15 a.m. for 8.00 a.m. (when the outer door to terrace opened) and then it was a mad dash to grab the sunbeds and put your towels on them. A bit like running to catch your train/bus in the mornings on your way to work. People seemed to think they should have the same beds every day of their holiday even when they didn't use them all day - how selfish can you get!!! This seemed to be the regular visitors that were the worst offenders. My husband and I endured some mean looks and on one occassion my husband spent a good part of the day with someone's feet practically in his face because we had taken the sunbeds that 'belonged' to their party. They only had to explain and we would quite happily have swapped with them. Really the hotel staff need to deal with this major problem urgently. We've never experienced anything like it before and neither had some of the other guests we spoke with.
The entertainment was appalling. The resident group were awful. The rest of the evening entertainment was provided by the 4 holiday reps. They did try really hard but were certainly not singers or dancers and Thomsons' certainly believe in getting their moneys worth out of their reps. There were only two non-resident groups in the seven days and it would be more of the same if you stayed a second week. Help!!!
The area itself is absolutely beautiful, the views are outstanding. The village is small and very clean and the bus service runs to time. Its also well worth taking a trip to see
the whales and dolphins although cheaper to go on local boat trips rather than pay through the nose with Thomson.
All in all this Thomson Gold Hotel could not, in our estimation, be classed as anything more than 3 star. Certainly not worth the £800 we paid each for 1 week half board!!

Just returned from a wonderful holiday in the Hotel Los Gigantes. This was the first time in a Gold hotel and we have been completely sold. The Hotel itself was lovely, clean and very friendly. Sun beds were available at any time of the day, I mention this as according to other reviews this has been an issue in the past. Los Gigantes is a very quiet resort so if you like something a bit livelier then it may not be for you, however, there is another resort not too far away and is an easy taxi ride or about 20 mins walk, just ask the reps or any of the guests for directions. In that resort is Route 66 bar, and on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday the duo 'old dog new tricks' play. Bob is an amazing guitarist whilst his partner really belts out songs ranging from Layla by Clapton to I predict a riot by Kaiser Chiefs. The trips are quite expensive but can get them cheaper outside of the hotel, however, the extra cost does bring extra comfort so it is entirely up to you. Dolphins and whales excusion was fabulous as was the day trip to 'la Gomera' Teide by night was good, there wasn't a sunset due to the 'la cleema' dust cloud which comes up from Africa and causes a hazy effect in the resort, and I would have preferred more stargazing, but it was still a great night. Chris of Colour Tours provides witty commentary and of course the champagne flowed. The whole holiday was geared to you and your comfort. The only niggle is that there is waiter service only on the terrace at night and so you can be waiting for 30 mins for a drink. The Hotel are building a spa at the moment so some clients were unhappy with the noise but to be honest we didn't think it was a problem. The reps worked hard and compared to the type of entainment we have been subjected to in the past it was refreshing to see quality stuff. The pools aren't very big and I thought this may be a problem but it wasn't and the small pool area was lovely. I would stay at the Hotel again but only at this time of year when there is varied age range and because of the peacefulness of the place.

Hotel was good but for a couple of points, yes the food was ok but only if you want meat and 2 veg every day if you want canarian food forget it, air con only on between 5 and 7 and again between 10 and midnight great if you want to get showered and dressed early for dinner, but not after 7 like we do because our room was 28deg at 7.30pm really nice when you are drying your hair!
Our room was clean but there was a wine bottle foil top on the floor for four of the seven days we were there (yes I know I could have picked it up).
Would we return, probably but not intending too. Overall it was a good holiday but we were expecting more from this hotel, certainly not the best gold hotel we've been to.

This is a lovely hotel. It is clean and airy. The rooms are generously sized and clean with rooms being cleaned daily.
The food is delicious and the staff do all they can to ensure you enjoy your meals. The staff in general throughout the hotel are always polite and will always acknowledge guests, often with a few words even if it’s just to ask if you are enjoying your stay.
The manager is a wonderful man who does his utmost to ensure that the hotel runs efficiently at all times and who treats guests with great care, politeness and genuine concern and interest.
The two pools are good with plenty of sunbeds and parasols, and for a small refundable deposit you can have fresh pool towels whenever you wish, so that’s one less thing to pack!
The entertainment is good. Daily activities that whilst aren't mind-blowingly taxing are nevertheless good fun; the evening entertainment is enjoyable, obviously it isn’t West End standard but it still good and not only are the performers good, but it is obvious that the Thomson team work hard to put together good shows whether they are bringing in artistes or performing themselves.
The only thing that lets this hotel down is the location. Los Gigantes resort is a little out of the way and it doesn't really have anything to do unless you count the hotel activities. The beach is also very small.
So, whilst we loved the hotel we won't be visiting it again simply because of where it is.

I have just returned from a week’s holiday at the hotel having booked last minute.
Overall I found the holiday really good with the exception of a couple of points.
Firstly we found the meals a little limited for choice. If you like English then you are okay. If you like a more international choice of menu then you will be disappointed. Also watch out for the eggs at breakfast. They can be a little cold.
Secondly there is always a scrum for the sun beds in the morning. If you are under 60 then you won't get what you want. I've never seen so many turbo charged pensioners.
Having said that my wife and I had a wonderful, well pampered holiday and would definitely return again.
In contradiction to other reviews I found the staff and entertainment really good.

This year is the 4th time we have visited the Los Gigantes Hotel. We are both in our early 50's but whenever we have visited the hotel there has always been a good mix of ages.
The guests are not "clicky". Because so many of us return year after year good friends have been made and quite a lot of us keep in touch when we come home. It is lovely to meet new people but as the hotel has a lovely home from home atmosphere it seems right that you meet some of the same people at least for a few days of your holiday each year.
We have very busy lives at home and we find the hotel has a most relaxing atmosphere. We never want to go home.
If you can't find something to eat that you like then you have to be a very fussy person indeed. The quality of food is excellent and the way it is presented is wonderful.
We love the place and will be returning at the beginning of next year. Can't speak too highly of all the staff. We haven't come across any that are surly, but a lot depends on how you as guests treat them. We have always found them very friendly and always willing to oblige. On the whole they can't do enough for you.

We have just returned from an 11 day holiday here. All I can say is what a fabulous time we had.
Treated like royalty, food superb, company great - we are 40 and certainly weren't the youngest there - lovely staff etc etc.
No wonder some people have been going there 30 years and many return year after year!
Ignore any of the bad reports on this hotel - it was fantastic! Can't wait to go again!

The Hotel is very good, excellent location, clean, friendly, very relaxing, staff very helpful& pleasant, food good, nothing is too much trouble you only have to ask.
Manager works very hard to ensure hotel is running smoothly and is always asking if everything is alright, he is a very pleasant gentleman and seems genuinely concerned if anything is wrong and soon puts it right.
There are no children and no lager louts
We have been 6 times now and already booked to go again we have been many places abroad but still come back to Los Gigantes Hotel we feel so at home there meet lots of people dont find they are clicky at all
Yes people queue for sunbeds but we have seen them do this at every hotel we have been to alot worse than this Hotel
The entertainment could be better but overall its still the best Hotel in Tenerife
