On arrival the reception area was clean and tidy, the receptionist was reasonably welcoming. She gave us room 342, when we went in it was very disappointing as we requested pool view and got a grey brick wall, instantly we went to the reception and asked if we could be... more

We were moved to the Sol Jamaica from the hotel we were supposed to be staying at in Palma Nova, (which was quite stressful considering the time of night we arrived and the fact we had our elderly Nan with us). We got off to a rocky start at the hotel as there was a fuss... more

Being my first holiday away with my mates I was very exited. We arrived at the hotel expecting basic accommodation and got it, but not too bothered. My old man told me to get a safe soon has we could, knowing we could go out with peace of mind. I've got to stop there... more

I have been staying in Magaluf with my family since being about the age of two, and recently went back there with my friend. If you are young, and are going out there for the nightlife then you are going to the right place. As for the hotel, yeah its pretty basic but you... more

Brilliant!!!
When i was told i was coming to magaluf, i wasn´t to sure on the idea. I mean i didn´t hear that greater reviews about it, but i didn´t take any notice of them. The Sol Jamacia is one of the top hotels you could wish to stay in, the entertainers are great at there jobs, spec Ant! ( u little fitty!) you can get involved as much as you like or as little as you like! with games taking places alday there is always something to join in with. It´s a great stay for everyone, especialy families! The location of the hotel is in the best place you could wish, jst a walk over the road and the beach is right there, bar street is just up the road for the youngters, but not to close that you can hear the noise. My verdict its brilliant! a great time to be had by everyone, and if they don´t more fall them! i say.
been before and going again!!
The hotel is in the centre of magaluf but it isn't too noisy at night. If you go out the main exit you are right in the middle of shops, resturants and bars. If you go out the pool exit you are 1 small street away from the beach, which is kept perfectly clean. The sea is quite calm and you can see the small fish swimming around your feet. The food is buffet style in the hotel and they cater for all tastes. In the morning there is cereals, pastries and danish and a full english and un the evening they do a wide variety of foods. I love the variety of magaluf as you can go to a quite beach bar and have a meal and a few drinks and you go round a corner and find a lively bar. It a place that is idea for people looking with a family or people who want a good time. We like it that much that were going againg for a 3rd time, that speaks for itself.
Dusty, rundown 1970s dump
We normally stay at the Sol Guadalupe opposite which is the best hotel ever, but they were full this year. We thought the Jamaica would be OK as it was the same chain, price and also a three star. How wrong we were!!! NO airconditioning NO TV (The Guad has both these vital things). Mismatched furniture from the 1970s Rusty patio table Dust on everything Awful beds with saggy mattresses and broken legs Noisy fan Lots of the rooms like ours have boring views over the back of Magaluf Packed disorganised dining room where you have to queue (compared to the Guad where its all light and airy and open plan) Hideous hideous place
Not what we expected...
Arrived at Sol Jamaica Tuesday (Aug 09th) when we booked the holiday with Travelcity we were told that it is a Family / Couples Hotel on a 3* Half Board Basis so thought this would be fine. Not so, when we arrive we found that the hotel is more like a 18-30 hostel with stag parties and groups of youngsters, we are both young however did not come for the club 18-30 lifestyle nor did we expect such a basic room for the price we paid. The rooms have this lovely fan which sounds like a helicopter landing in the bedroom and if you turn this off you roast and all you can hear is loud music, people running up and down the corridors and lots of commotion. It is only our 2nd day and we have already tried to upgrade hotels, missed breakfast on both mornings so far as we have been kept up by really inconsiderate people who think it is acceptable ti run up an down corridors and bang on doors till 7am. Please save yourselves, this is definately not a family hotel and I have seen older holidaymakers here who I don´t imagine were prepared for this sort of holiday. If you are young and want the club 18-30 lifestyle then this is ideal, we however wanted a busy holiday but one where you could actually get some sleep. I have looked around magalluf and palma nova for alternative accomodation for us and would reccommend the Sol Cala Blanca in Palma Nova or the Sol Barbados Antillos in Magalluf. Hope this helps.
great holiday!
I had a great time with my family at sol jamaica The room was fairly large with a fan on the ceiling to keep you cool but no tv. There was a very big buffet every night with a variety of choice at all meal times, It tasted very nice as well it was all fresh. During the day there are activities like rifle shooting and boules hosted by the entertainment team who are extremely pleasant and friendly to everyone. There are 3 swimming pools at the hotel, 1 is the main pool, there is a childrens paddling pool and a more out-of-the-way pool which is best for people who want to relax. There is also a kids club but I do't have any one in my family that went to it. The entertainment at night by the staff is excellent, they must work really hard to keep the variety of entertainment fresh and enjoyable, and they try to involve the guests as much as possible, it is all worth watching and there is also a bar near the stage so you can sit down and have an easy night in. The hotel is also right next to the beach so you can go there instead of the pool if you want The only things I would look out for are the annoying bar reps trying to drag people in at night and that if you leave your door open at night you can hear the chants of drunk people walking down the street at 1:00 in the morning so keep you're door closed. I reccomend this hotel to anyone who is going on a relaxing or activity holiday where you don't have to book daytrips or evenings out to fill up time
Best holiday ever!
There were five of us from Birmingham going to the Sol Jamaica, we had no idea what to expect but we had the best hoiday ever... the rooms were clean, food was good and the bars and clubs were brill! if anyone goes to Magaluf i would definately recommend the Sol Jamaica and tryin bars such as 'Bamboo,' 'Mulligans,' and 'BCM.' The location was brilliant as we were close enough to all the bars, clubs and restaurants but far away enough to get some sleep... we're already looking at booking up again for next year!
Best Week Ever
If you are wondering whether to book this hotel then BOOK IT NOW before someone else takes your room. WHY? Well, after spending just 1 week there i have this information to provide. I spent a week here with my wife, apparantly not a good thing to do in Magaluf! This hotel though has a great mixture of Single Sex Groups both male and female, along with couples and families which creates a great atmosphere with the interaction of them all together. If you spend a week here you will only have the single sex groups over the weekend (thanks to the low cost airlines!). FOOD I read other reviews and we were worried about the quality and variety of food, i am a fussy bugger with food so i didnt want to be paying for stuff i wasnt going to eat. Well i neednt have worried because every day there was a massive selection to choose from. And with it being buffet i could eat loads! The only problem is Spanish Bacon - not the same! spoilt breakfasts but there is enough other stuff to fill me up for the day. DAY & EVENING ACTIVITIES I personnaly can not sit in the sun all day so i needed to make sure i was kept entertained for the duration of the hol! Not disappointed, the hotel has a full activity program which starts at 11am and runs till 5pm there is a break for dinner for a couple of hours. There are a variety of sports that allow all abilities to take part. There is friendly competition as there are Certificates up for grabs to the winners of the competitions. Just make sure Dave from Scotland isnt booked in for the same time as you as he is now known as Carl Lewis after the amount of games he won! (Well done Dave!). Both Day and Evening activities are run by the Sol Hotel Reps, who are quality. Ant, Piotre, Maz and the gang are very funny and hospitable, we were lucky enough to get a good relationship with them and it made the holiday that much more enjoyable. Make sure you check out the Transvestite night. Funniest thing ever, and you are the stars, if you dare. Also a must see are 4bidden. Brilliant! i wont ruin it by spilling all the secrets just make sure you see it. You can get as involved as much or little as you want, you wont be pestered into doing things, but if you do volunteer then you will have the chance to become a star. Its up to you. POOL there were complaints about people not getting sunbeds in other reviews. Well i am sure those were people who got in at 6am and then coming to the pool after 1pm, which anywhere in the Med you have little chance of obtaining a sunbed. If you get up before 11am there is no reason whatsoever that you will not get a bed, it wont be next to the pool but there will be some available. The pool itself isnt massive but it is a means of cooling down and supplied us with plenty of fun. ROOMS Not the worst but not the best. Plenty of space so you dont feel clostrophobis but the one big draw back is the lack A/C. There is a Large Fan on the roof but it is just not A/C is it!? Bathroom bis enough, wardrobes are fine so you dont have to leave half your clothes in your suitcase. If you need an iron, reception hire them for 2E for the day. LOCAL AREA Could not be situated in a better place. you could throw a stone from your baclony to the beach. You have got the main pub/club street at the rear of the hotel - 5 mins walk. Pizza Hut is 1 min walk (check out the Pizza slice s to take away 1.8E - Quality!) Mcdonalds is on the other corner, and nestled in between is TOM BROWNS which is a great place to grab lunch and have a game of mini golf. BCM's is 5 mins away so you are in the heart of the action but also far enough away. SUMMARY I think i have covered pretty much everything that should be of concern to all ages. I would recommend this hotel as it made our holiday, we hardly saw Magaluf, so it gives us something to go back for. The level of service from the Reception, Bar, Restaraunt and Activity staff is above and beyond the call of duty. Nothing is too much trouble and the more YOU get involved the more YOU will get out and it will be a great way to meet other People, Families, Couples as we did. if you are going to the Sol this summer say hi to Piotre and Ant form Me. Top Blokes! You will be well looked after and you will not wait to get back. ENJOY!
Brilliant Holiday
Excellent. The only problem we had, was three adults slept in the same room. Not advisable when someone snores. Staff brilliant. Food very good. Definately would go again.
lack of security
Ok this was the second time we had been here but this time the food was not as good as the last time we went.Me my wife and child were put at one end of the hotel but if we opened our patio door we could not stand the fumes it was horrible. One night we came back, and got ready for bed only to find when we went in the wardrobe that someone had taken the safety deposit box door of its hinges but the room door was locked and the patio door hadnt been touched work that one out for yourselves. They still would not move us from the room, all our money and travellers cheques had been stolen, luckily the safety deposit boxes were insured so we did get our cash back. We noticed after what had happened, that every night we got back the security gaurd was just talking at the reception desk, we never once seen a security gaurd walking the corridors, are checking the lifts people could just walk in and out without getting checked,we complained but got no satisfaction. I would not recommend anyone to go to this hotel it has gone down the pan, it used to be brill and as for the rooms, no air conditioning this day and age it is just behind the times.
no air conditioning
i booked this holiday on tuesday 28th july and we left on 7th August from Liverpòol. when i rang the travel agency i was told this hotel was available and was very good so i booked it. in the brochure and on the internet it states that the rooms have air conditioning but when we arrived we discovered it didn´t. the temperature has been 108 degrees and not much less while we have been here, and air con is a must, but there isn,t any and it is stiflingly roasting in the rooms. there is a little ceiling fan which we have had on full power constantly, but it is not the same as air con. we are going home on sunday 22nd august, and will come back to majorca without a doubt but won´t be staying at sol jamaica again that´s for sure. one thing in their favour though is the food which is generally rather good with a wide variety, and if you can´t find something to eat you must be really fussy. again the need for air con cannot be stressed enough, especially at a sol hotel.
