We have just come back from a week skiing at Sestriere, where we stayed in the Hotel Cristallo. We were very impressed with the hotel and would definately recommend it. It's situation opposite the slopes is second to none, you can leave your skis in the Rent & Go depot over the road which is very convenient. We stayed in a standard room on the first floor which was large enough & well equipped. The only negative about the room is that the view was of the emergency exit steps and a brick wall, but to be honest, for the amount of time we spent in the room when we would have looked at the view, it didn't bother us. You can request an upgrade to a room with a view which you may be able to get at a discounted rate if you ask nearer to your arrival date. The only other negative point is that the rooms do not have a bath (only a shower), & I personnaly like to soak in a bath after a days skiing! The restaurant has a Michelin star & the food was fantastic and plentiful - at least 4 courses every night plus more if you wanted, all cooked to a very high standard, and they also have a fantastic wine list of which we tried several and enjoyed them all! There are also complimentary hot drinks & biscuits in the afternoon if you can fit them in! The staff are all very pleasent.
The resort of Sestriere is good & we would return. We're not party animals, but there is enough going on to satisfy most peolple of most ages. The skiing area is very good, although we could have done with some more snow prior to our visit as there were a few patchy areas on the mountains & several lifts were not working which we found frustrating. Most of the runs are red - some easy, some more like black runs, and there are a handful of blues. The skiing ability is suited to most especially intermediates. The infrastructure is good although we did not venture over to the other resorts in the Milky Way as we found there was enough skiing to do in Sestriere.

Our family of five (from Toronto,Canada including three adult boys) stayed over the New Year's period of 2010 and we loved the place. The hotel location was perfect - right across the street from the lifts, and in the middle of town (no buses to worry about).
Ski shop next to hotel (on right) were superb - as we had to buy two sets of skiis boots - very attentive and Thomas (owner/son of owner?) adjusted the boots for a few days to get it fit right.
The food was great - but the buffet table for hors d'oeuvres, cheeses and desserts was not replenished if an item was finished before one arrived there.
The staff was friendly - especially the bartender at New Years Eve! - they had a party in the bar which was fun.
